For a week, Sheera didn't get to see the Alpha. Not even from a distance.
Considering how she had doted on him the first time saw him, Sheera never thought she'd be so relieved to not see him.
Although, she couldn't deny it was a little surprising that he hadn't bothered to see her at all, considering she had been brought all the way to the Fortress for him. It was just as if she didn't matter, or he didn't care enough.
However, her fortune of not seeing him was finally about to end as that morning, she was in the room, nervously getting ready to go hunting with the royal family.
It was the previous night when Tabitha had come up to her with the information, informing her she needed to be present.
Sheera had tried asking if the Alpha had been the one that requested her presence, but Tabitha told her it wasn't the Alpha and didn't know who it was.
Now, that morning, she was there in her room, wondering if she looked good enough. She didn't have much clothes. And unfortunately for her, there was no mirror in her room to check how she looked.
She took in several deep breaths, trying to reassure herself that it was all going to be fine. She was ready for it.
Prepared, she exited the room.
...
Sheera didn't exactly know where to go. She just kept walking until she saw a herd of horses with some Keepers and servants around. Then, she spotted Mistress Odessa . That was definitely it.
She gathered the courage she could and went in that direction. As she walked, the few people she came across couldn't stop staring at her, especially the men. They continuously gave her that lustful look.
Getting to where the horses were gathered, she noticed Prince Malkar was there as well, arranging his horse. He flashed a bright smile upon seeing her.
"What are you doing here?" Odessa snapped, passing her a stare of ridicule.
Sheera had to force her eyes to the ground. "Greetings, Mistress. I was told I'd be going hunting."
"Truly?" Odessa scoffed. "By who exactly? You are not supposed to be here."
"I invited her, Odessa. Snap out of it," Malkar chipped in.
Sheera's jaw dropped, as did Odessa's. It was him?
Odessa whirled on Malkar, her nostrils flaring in indignation. "And why would you do such a thing? This is the royal hunt! She has no place here."
Malkar met her gaze with an unyielding defiance. "I am a Prince, am I not? Extending an invitation seems well within my rights. Perhaps you should focus on preparing for the hunt and leave the guest list to me."
"But..."
"What are you so afraid of, Odessa?" The second lady suddenly said.
That was the first time Sheera was noticing her. She was dressed nobly and had been trying to fix her horse as well.
Her complexion was remarkably smooth, her eyes shone with vivacity and her hair was arranged gracefully upon one shoulder.
She was beautiful. Very.
"Are you afraid the young maiden will end up stealing the Alpha's attention? Do you feel intimidated by her beauty?" She completed.
Odessa balled her hands into fists as she turned to her rival. She forced a smile up her lips.
"And what makes you think I should be the frightened one, Thessaly? I am and will always be the Alpha's favorite. It is you who would have to fight for the little attention you never get from him with this new thing," she cast a disdainful look at Sheera's way.
Sheera was amused to discover that was Thessaly, the second mistress of the Alpha.
"Then, leave it to me to complain. Stop grumbling if you have nothing to be afraid of." Thessaly smirked.
They went mute instantly, like something cold had spilled on them. Sheera was equally confused and just watched them, not until Odessa spoke up.
"Alpha!" She exclaimed, running into his arms.
Alpha Keegan had been arriving with Kalaril and some Keepers, and as soon as the Mistress approached him, he opened his arms to her.
The contact lasted for three seconds before she pulled away.
"Good morning, Alpha. I am glad you are here at last," Her cheeks had crimsoned.
"How was your night?" He trailed a finger down her cheek.
"Oh! It was great."
"Greetings, Alpha," the rest of the people around paid homage.
Sheera was trying so hard to keep breathing. She could hear her heart pounding steadily in her chest as she stared at the Alpha from a close range. Dear Selene, he was a wonder!
The mere sight of him was like a gust of wind, causing her legs to tremble and her heart to flutter. Never before had she beheld a man so strikingly handsome, his presence akin to a masterpiece carved by the hands of time itself.
How lucky Odessa was to have such a man care for her.
However, aside his charms, all Sheera saw was a man that had beheaded another without blinking.
When Odessa moved away from Keegan, he was able to catch sight of Sheera for the first time. Cleft lines creased his brows as he glanced at her.
Sheera dropped her gaze to the ground instantly, afraid he might ask her to go back. Maybe that wouldn't be much of a bad idea.
However, he walked away to his big white horse.
"May I ride with you, Alpha?" Odessa asked, her voice soft and cute.
Nodding, Keegan helped her get on. Thessaly scoffed and rolled her eyes, then climbed onto hers.

They rode for sometime before getting to the woods and commencing hunting.
The hunt wasn't going so well for them. They'd been walking in the woods for long minutes but were yet to see a prey.
Alpha Keegan always enjoyed hunting on the third day of the week because he believed it came with a lot of luck. But on that day, that luck was being limited.
Kalaril and two head Keepers - Eamon and Wulfric - were behind him. Not like Keegan needed them.
Eamon and Wulfric were one of the head Keepers of the pack and closest to Kalaril. They were within the same age range and had become acquainted with him when they fortunately joined the Pack Force three years ago.
They were one of the strongest Fighters, and due to some similarities, they became Kalaril's closest associates. Although, they had the small privilege of being 'closer' to the Alpha since they became close to Kalaril, it was nothing compared to the bond Kalaril shared with Keegan.
No matter how much Keegan craved his distance from them, he couldn't have it as it was Kalaril's duty to ensure he was protected at all times.
He stopped walking, so did the others.
"We should spread out now. We cannot have a fruitless hunt today." Keegan announced and began walking away to the opposite direction.
Kalaril and the two Keepers followed him. Odessa made a pout. She hated the fact that she would have to be away from him.
Sheera felt her heart beating softly as she watched the Alpha go.
Dropping her gaze, she took the other direction. But she wasn't the only one who did. She realized that when prince Malkar caught up with her.
"Hey." He tipped his head, his bow and arrow being held carelessly.
Sheera became a little nervous.
"Greetings, my prince." She bowed, still walking.
Malkar smiled. "How are you enjoying the hunt? Certainly, you should be glad I brought you along."
"I... I appreciate the act, my prince. Thank you."
"Oh! It's nothing. Since you'd refused having tea with me yesterday, I figured I could make use of the hunt. So, tell me, is this your first time hunting?"
Sheera stopped walking and spun around to face him.
"I am truly sorry, my prince, if you have no negative intentions. I am simply trying to be careful to avoid getting into trouble with the Alpha. If you wouldn't mind, I'd love for us to seize this communication. It is inappropriate, considering the fact that I am here for a specific purpose." She dropped her head even lower. "I do hope you understand."
Malkar felt a kind of anger and rejection. He chuckled and tried saying something but was cut off by Sheera walking away.
He grunted lowly. To rot with fate!
Of all things, why did she have to be there as his brother's toy? Why hadn't she come as a servant or anything else? What was it about her that got him so restless?
....
Sheera hunted alone in her own part of the woods. It wasn't her first time going hunting.
Her mother was a hunter, and most mornings, she had accompanied her to the woods. She learnt a lot of skills and secrets from hunting. Hence, she was very experienced.
She walked quietly through the woods, her bow and arrow ready and pointing in a direction. She listened for the slightest sound, the faintest pant. And soon, she got it.
Sheera could not explain if it happened to everyone else, or just her. But she seemed to have a heightened sense of sight and hearing - more heightened than every other wolf. It was part of the reason her mother always preferred going hunting with her.
There had never been a day Sheera went hunting without catching a prey.
Sheera was alert. She looked keenly, her eyesight reaching far.
Then, the deer came into sight.
It stood from afar, facing the other direction.
Sheera got herself ready to shoot. She couldn't afford to miss.
She aimed, waited for the perfect time and angle, then pulled the string.
The arrow raced through the air and found it's mark on the deer's skin, right into its back. The deer wheezed and crashed to the ground instantly.
Sheera gasped. She lowered her bow as a triumphant smile shadowed her face.
She did it!
Excitement bubbled within her. Thoughts of how everyone would be proud filled her head. Oh! Thank the moon!
She was about running to her catch when Odessa showed up, standing in front of the deer. Sheera halted her strides.
Odessa looked at the dead deer on the ground, then shifted her surprised gaze to Sheera.
Sheera saw how shocked she looked. She obviously didn't expect someone like her to be so good at hunting.
Suddenly, the surprise vanished from Odessa's face, getting replaced with a faux smile.
"Alpha! I got a deer!" She called out.
Sheera was flummoxed. She sucked in air as she watched the Mistress lift the deer onto her shoulders and began scurrying away. What!!!?
Odessa hurried with the deer until she met the Alpha and the others. Keegan gave her an impressive look.
"You killed this?" He asked as she set it down on the ground.
"Yes, Alpha. I guess our hunt will not be fruitless anymore." Odessa exclaimed with delight.
"That is not true!" Sheera showed up, panting. "I killed the deer, not her!"
Eyes turned in Sheera's direction. Odessa creased her brows in surprise.Taking the deer, she never expected the low maiden would have the guts to defend herself. Sheera was panting as she stood before Keegan. "Forgive my intrusion, Alpha, but the game is mine, not hers."Odessa's emerald eyes widened in shock, a hand flying to her chest. "What... what are you babbling about?" she sputtered, voice laced with disbelief. "If it's your kill, how come I was the one carrying it?""That is because you reached it before I could. Then, you proclaimed your victory to the Alpha. I was too stunned speechless, unsure how to challenge you. But it is wrong to do this to me. I went through the labour of getting it. You shouldn't take the glory for it." Sheera expressed."By the hunt!" Odessa shrieked in another gasp. "How could you... How could you even think to accuse me in front of everyone? This is not my first successful hunt! Why would I steal from you?"She buried her face in her palms, and
For the first time since she was brought in, Keegan regarded her. He surveyed her with a detached intensity, his gaze lingering on her form like she was a curious artifact rather than a person.Still clutching the bloodstained knife, he moved with a predatory grace towards a rough-hewn table across the room. The dim torchlight cast flickering shadows that danced on the damp walls, adding to the oppressive atmosphere."How was your stay in the dungeon?" He casually asked like it was a place she was meant to be. Sheera clamped down tightly, the metallic tang of fear clinging to her tongue. Why was she even in his room? Was he going to slit her throat as well?"F... Forgive me, Alpha. I apologize for upsetting you earlier on." She managed to say. Keegan was backing her now. Taking up a strap of cloth from the table, he meticulously wiped off the blood stain from his blade, then started walking in Sheera's direction. A lump formed in Sheera's throat, and she swallowed it with a dry ras
"I am Sheera. I was uh..." she paused, realizing from his expression that he knew who she was already from her name. "Are you Prince Ulric?" She questioned. Ulric confirmed her thought with a nod. And quickly, she dipped her head in respect. Somehow, she'd known. Perhaps it was the air of nobility that clung to him, or the faint resemblance he bore to Prince Malkar. He seemed young, though, no more than a year or two her senior. And unlike Keegan and Malkar, there was a hint of warmth in his eyes. Ulric reached for another arrow, nocked it on the bowstring, aimed, and released. The arrow found its target with a satisfying thud. An amused chuckle warmed his voice. "Where did you learn archery?" He looked at Sheera again who smiled at the memories of her mother. "My mother is a hunter. So am I. We've been doing this our whole lives." A light dawned on Ulric, and he gave a sharp nod. The reason he was out there, shooting at made up targets was because he needed to clear his head
Sheera was a prisoner of her own terror. Even as night fell, cloaking the Fortress in its inky embrace, and she knew it was time to go the Alpha's chamber, she found it difficult moving her legs.the memory of what she had done sent a fresh wave of panic crashing over her. The image of the Keeper's lifeless form sprawled on the floor played on an endless loop in her mind.It was unreal for her to had behaved that way. So unreal for her to possess such strength and anger - one that was enough to defeat a Keeper, and...and kill him!She was haunted! It was her first kill as a wolf, and by the moon, the air seemed to stick in her throat. It was forbidden to take the life of another without reason. What if the Keeper's death is traced to her? What if they don't believe she had only been defending herself? How does she even explain herself being in his room? It was foolish of her to had followed him. Her breaths were shallow and quick as she struggled to pull herself together. She need
Keegan had just finished having a warm morning bath. Dressed in his jewelry - encrusted attire, he sank into a chair and let out a deep sigh that came from the depths of his soul. He had a court meeting in a very short time. But as he stayed seated on the chair, he found it so difficult moving a step. He could almost feel the sun-warmed stone beneath his feet, the gentle caress of the breeze against his face. A serenity unlike any he'd known in years washed over him. Every muscle in his body unclenched with pure relaxation seeping into his very bones. If only he didn't have so much responsibilities, he could sleep the whole day. Keegan couldn't fathom where this sudden sensation came from. But what he did know was at what point it started. It happened the previous night right after he had gotten off on the new maiden. It was wild that anyone could ever feel that way after intimacy. However, he waved it aside as a blessing from the goddess. It didn't take too long before his bli
Keegan had a busy day going in and out of the courtroom. When you ruled almost the entire North, a lot of challenges was bound to happen on a daily basis. If it didn't have to do with terrestrial dispute, it would be hunting woes. Or internal conflict. Or partners trouble. Or betrayers. It was a never - ending list. In addition, he had a very pressing issue which he discussed with his Pack Council. Over the months, there have been reports of young wolves being abducted from their homes. It always happened when the wolves were alone and vulnerable. And it was an issue that'd been a burden to Keegan and the Pack. However, they finally received some information on the whereabouts of the wolves. It was said that they were being held hostage in a Hamlet far away from the North. Keegan and the council members discussed the issue extensively and came to a conclusion that they were going to attack the Hamlet to rescue the wolves. And considering the intensity of the abduction, Keegan dec
Sheera and Tabitha were in her room, eating some chips Tabitha had come with. Earlier that day, Tabitha had come in to check up on her. She brought Sheera some hot tea and advised her to bath with very warm water to ease the pain in her legs. In addition, she provided her with some lim'ma herbs to prevent conception. Now, by evening, as they sat in the room, chit-chatting, Sheera was already a little relieved. She was talking to Tabitha about coming to assist in the kitchen from time to time. But Tabitha was against it, insisting Sheera should enjoy the comfort of the Fortress and not bother herself simply because she was bored. "The name of the woman we answer to is Rena," Tabitha said. "She is very strict. And I doubt she shall pay any heed to your suggestion.""But why? It's not like I was brought in here as someone special. I am barely a...""Who else have you seen being the Alpha's 'plaything' Sheera?" Tabitha rolled her eyes. "Few have even laid eyes upon the Alpha's chambe
True to his words, Sheera didn't leave for several hours. She laid in his bed, face down and her breath shallow. Her lower body throbbed with a relentless ache, she feared she'd lack the ability to walk when the Alpha finally releases her to go. He was at his balcony, covered in a black robe and drinking wine from a silver goblet. His hand was tightly wrapped around the goblet as he took in the last drop. Then, he glared it at it and held it with such force like he wanted to crush it. Sheera shivered when she heard him come into the room. She heard the sound of the goblet dropping with a hard thump before his approaching footsteps reached her ears. She wanted to run away. Get down from the bed and leave the room. But she knew that would be disastrous. Unless she runs out of the Fortress, she'll be imprisoned and punished. And if she 'did' run out of the Fortress, the Alpha would come after her family and have them punished severally. Despite how hurt and scared she was, she knew
Sheera regained consciousness, not knowing how long had passed. At first glance, she discovered she was in a dim, cramped room that smelled of stale air and dust. Rough stone walls surrounded her, and cold, uneven floors pressed against her palms. Her head throbbed with the ache of fresh wounds. She felt... different."You!" Someone growled behind her. Sheera turned swiftly to find Luna Valkyrie on the floor, mere steps away. Her eyes flared in shock, her mind reeling. The Luna was hurt, her neck bleeding. "Explain this! What are we doing here?"Valkyrie barked. Sheera was as confused as the Luna, but she was more terrified of the blood running from her neck. Ohgods. Ohgods. Ohgods. She couldn't be here. She couldn't be here. She scrambled to her feet, running to the door, but it wouldn't open. And without her wolf strength, she couldn't break it open. She turned to the Luna, breathing heavily. "You... We need to break the door. You need to get out of here."Valkyrie rose slowly,
It's been three days since the war. The air at Howling Ridge was still thick with grief, but the bodies had already been cleared and burnt—although it had taken a lot of effort. Keegan's Ravagers had long been returned to their cave. Ulric had managed to get out of the Pack without being caught. Malkar, serving his banishment, had left already. Things should be back to normal, but they weren't. Their loss still lingered in the air. In addition, Sheera missed her best friend, Ulric. She wished things had turned out differently. The Fortress didn't seem the same anymore. As she left her chambers, her head was lowered as if weighed down by her thoughts. She froze when she felt a familiar chilling presence loom before her. Lifting her gaze, her heart seemed to shift from its original position when she discovered it was Zandov. She stopped walking. The man was dressed heavily, like someone ready for a battle. He had his gaze pinned on Sheera as he took slow steps. Sheera was unset
Zandov narrated what had happened with Ulric to Keegan. He told him how the Prince had reacted when he killed the witch. He was certain they knew each other.Keegan was shocked that Ulric had a relationship with a witch. Since the witch was in the pack, he figured she had been with the enemies and meant no good. So, he gave Zandov the go-ahead to search for Ulric. Retiring to his chambers, he met Sheera who tearfully explained what had happened during the fight—the urge that had consumed her when blood touched her. She was so scared, telling him she had tried sticking to his a mental picture of his face, but it didn't work. Keegan pulled her in an embrace, comforting her. That was all he could do as himself couldn't understand why that had happened. Their moment was interrupted by Thessaly who made her way into the room. "Oh, Alpha! You're well!" She breathed in relief, running over to meet him. She put a hand on his, her expression softening. "You cannot begin to imagine how ver
"Please..." he begged, his voice hoarse and fading. "Please."Keegan cocked his head, as if evaluating Malkar's crumpled form. "Now, who's fault is it that this became a fight to the death?" His voice was low and mocking.Morshella finally forced her way in. She dropped to her knees, shielding Malkar with her body."Please, stop this!" Tears streamed down her face. "Please, you can't do this! You can't..."Keegan looked amused. "If you think shielding him will stop me from killing him, you probably don't know how long I've been waiting to kill you."Morshella's gaze shot up, wide with fear. "I beg of you, Keegan. He is your brother! I... I understand you never go back on your word, but this once, this once," she sobbed, holding Malkar's hand tight. "You share the same blood. How can you possibly take the life of your own blood? What to you think your father would thin
Her vision clouded with red as she ran, climbing down from the rooftop. Once she was on the ground, she mixed into the crowd, killing everyone that stood in her way. And that was the problem—she didn't even know who was in her way. Was it a friend? Or a foe?She didn't stop running until she was far away from the battlefield, far away from the people she desperately wanted to kill. .........The battle raged on for what felt like an eternity. At some point, the tide shifted completely. Soldiers on the opposing side began to retreat, fear overtaking them. The Alphas had tried to fight but soon discovered they'd lost the battle. Their forces were being decimated, and their numbers dwindled rapidly. Realizing the battle was beyond saving, the Alphas attempted to flee. But when they reached the gates, they found them locked. Trapped. Panic set in as their soldiers crowded around them, also seeking escape.Merilyn, who was with them, tried desperately to use her powers to unlock the g
By the time Keegan, Kalaril and the Ravagers reached the Fortress, the war had already been brought in.His people had been fighting, doing their best, although he saw some lying lifeless among the chaos."Kalaril, make sure the gates remain shut," he ordered coldly, his anger simmering to a boil. The Ravagers growled hungrily behind him, awaiting his command. When the enemies saw him with the wolves, they knew instantly they were no ordinary wolves. The Ravagers looked different from normal wolves. Their furs were a mix of black and silver, and their eyes always glowed gold."After them!" Keegan's voice was like a whip crack. They set out, lunging at the men without the red ribbons. The men almost showed fear and tried to retreat, but they held onto the promises of the Alphas that the Ravagers would be
The Pack Members who had survived the attack from the outskirts found their way into the Fortress, making the Fortress crowded and chaotic. The Keepers didn't try to stop them. One of the people that had made their way in was Zytha. She had been at her usual spot when she spotted the soldiers marching. She knew it was war, and the only person she could think of was Ulric. So, she ran there, determined to find him and keep him safe.Locating him would take considerable effort, considering the crowd, but she didn't stop looking........Outside the Fortress, the five Alphas and the witch stood together, behind the men. They were at the very last row and hadn't taken part in the war yet. But now, they were about to. "I knew this would be a success," Alpha Laycoan sneered. "I knew with our combined strength, it'd be inevitable!""This is the final phase," Zarek said. "We've pushed them to the Fortress as planned. The fight ends here.""This is where we win," Sebastian chipped in. "We m
Keegan and Kalaril returned outside where the horses and warrior Hounds were already waiting. The Hounds were above two hundred in number, but those were the numbers he liked to take for the first time. The horses couldn't be enough. So, him, Kalaril and a few other Keepers mounted the horses while the others followed on foot. The people around stopped and watched, whispering amongst themselves. They knew something was wrong. Keegan led the way, riding out of the gates. They others followed in their numbers. ....They hadn't yet reached the mountains when the sounds of battle carried on the wind. It came from the outskirts of the Fortress. The moment Keegan saw the smoke rising, his heart twisted in fury. They rushed toward the commotion, only to find their people already engaged in a brutal skirmish. The attackers were not as much as the Keepers had warned, which meant these were only the vanguard. The rest were coming.Keegan's rage boiled over. His people had done a good job def
A while later, Tabitha awoke. Kalaril was the happiest and tended to her needs. It was late at night when he laid next to her, cuddling her in his arms. She could hear his heart beating, and she loved it. He was still so worried, even after she told him she felt a lot better. "I want you to move in with me," he said, to her surprise. Her brows arched. "H—How?""I want you to be fully mine, Tabitha. I need you... by my side. Always."Tabitha exhaled shakily, her heart starting to race. Kalaril wouldn't deny it, he'd been a little unfair. He loved her, but there was a part of him that had not been ready to fully accept her. This was the reason their relationship remained a secret to a lot of people. But now, seeing her almost die made him rethink. He realized how very special she was to him."I chose you to be my mate," he revealed. "You'll no longer be a maid or need to work. You'll just be here, as mine."Heat rose to her cheeks. Gods, his words... they were all she's ever dreame
