Chapter Seventy-nine

Catherine’s POV

After my brief conversation with Philip, I walked out of Philip's office, the sumptuous mahogany door shutting behind me with a quiet, resonant click. I felt like the weight of unresolved questions in my head continued to disturb the peaceful environment around me.

My footsteps reverberated along the lengthy corridor; their sound muffled by the rich scarlet carpet underfoot. The walls were covered with pictures of former CT Wines empire leaders, whose stern features watched me with a face of knowledge and power.

The beautiful chandelier over me projected a cozy bright glow as I climbed the large marble stairs, its sparkling crystals reflecting the light and casting colorful rainbows over the walls. A sign of the wealth and influence around me, the air was thick with the scents of expensive polished wood and furniture.

I kept on comparing the anguish in my emotions to the cold, uncaring world outside there. My thoughts kept playing Philip's apologies and justification
