The echoes of a cruel laughter filled the moist air. It was shortly followed by the cry of a girl.
“Useless Amelia!” A blonde girl on pigtails laughed as she pointed at her. “Omg. Look at her, she can't even transform.” “Don't look at her. My mom said you'd catch the disease and it'll affect you.” Amelia fisted her hand at her side. “I'm not sick!” Linda said with a scowl on her face. “Then explain why you can't transform, huh?” Amelia fell silent. Linda went on. “Explain why you can't transform!” “She's a witch! Be careful, Linda!” Her friends called behind her. Linda scoffed. “She can't do anything.” All of a sudden, her lips curved into a grin. “Hey, guys. I've got a brilliant idea.” “What is it?” “Why don't we help Amelia transform? Grab her leg!” Amelia cried out in her sleep.“No. Please, don't hurt me!” Adrian threw his eyes open. He heard muffled cries coming from across the hall. Pushing back the bedcovers, he stiffened. There was an odd scent in the house and it wasn't Amelia’s nor Emily’s. “Shit!” He grabbed his sword from the bed and made his way across the hall. “Who's there!” He thundered. “N - no, please.” The whimpering voice continued. He froze when he realised where the sound was coming from. “Amelia!” Effortlessly, he broke the doorknob and slammed it open. “Amelia!” He yelled. She laid in bed, tossing and turning uncontrollably. He put his arms around her, holding her in place. “It's okay. It's going to be okay.” Her tossing stopped and she fell limp in his arms. “Linda, stop…” Amelia whispered before falling asleep again. Adrian pulled her close, his face darkening with rage. The only Linda he knew Amelia was familiar with was her step sister. “Steven.” He called out. Immediately, a man dressed in black from head to toe appeared in the middle of the room. “Yes, Alpha.” He went on one knee as he greeted. “Look into Amelia's family. Make sure you find every detail, hidden or not, about them.” Adrian spoke, as he brushed his fingers across Amelia's hair. “Yes, sir.” Steven gave another bow and banished the same way he came. Adrian looked at Amelia and his chest tightened. Her eyes were red and swollen and both her cheeks were wet. He remembered that the first day she had arrived in the rain with no umbrella whatsoever and most of her clothes were thin. He brushed his fingers across her cheek. “What did they do to you in there?” As usual, Emily awoke before the sun. She palmed her sweaty forehead and heaved a sigh. “Another nightmare. Huh.” She pushed the bedcovers and slid her leg over the left side of the bed. The house was always quiet, especially in the morning. There were no other servants apart from Emily and Amelia wondered what that was so but Emily had explained to her that people nicknamed Adrian's mansion to be the Devil's Castle and she got her answer. She heard quiet footsteps in the hall and jumped back into bed. “Amelia…” It was Adrian. “G - Good morning, sir.” she stuttered terribly. Silence passed between them and he exhaled softly. “There's someone at the door.” “I'll go get it.” Amelia got off the bed and rushed to the door. She ran into Adrian and slipped. Before she would hit the ground, his arm caught her by the waist and pulled her up. Amelia immediately withdrew from this embrace. “I'm so sorry, sir. I'm sorry for bumping into you. It wasn't intentional. I only moved because you told me to…” He silenced her by draping his coat over her shoulders. “It's cold outside.” Her eyes went round. “What?” “You were getting the door, right?” He reminded her. “Oh yes.” Amelia said with a nod. As she walked downstairs, she couldn't stop thinking about what had happened. “He gave me his coat.” She muttered to herself as she approached the door. “Who is it?” Amelia asked. “Mail from the Osborne household.” came the voice behind the door. “Alright.” Before Amelia would open the door, a veiny hand beat her to it. She looked up and found Adrian towering over her. “Oh. I'm s -” “Stay there,” He held the door open. “And stop apologizing.” The courier greeted me with a warm smile. “Good morning, Alpha Adrian.” Then his eyes fell on Amelia and he tipped his hat. “Good morning, ma’am.” “You said something about mail?” Adrian asked. “Yes, sir,” The courier whipped out a white envelope from his bag and passed it to Adrian. “It’a letter from Emily Osborne.” Amelia gasped. “Oh my. I hope she's alright.” “I guess you'd have to find out when you read the letter,” said the courier. Amelia looked up at Adrian who was scanning the stamp on the envelope. She looked at the courier and beamed him a smile. “Thank you for bringing us the letter, sir.” “It’s my job, ma'am.” He smiled. “Have a nice day.” He turned in his heels and walked away. Amelia felt so embarrassed with the way Adrian towered over her small frame. “S - sir, c - can I move now?” She asked. When Adrian was done reading the letter, he took a step back. Amelia turned to look at him. “Sir, is Emily alright?” “No,”Adrian delivered the message coldly. “She fell I'll last minute.” “Oh poor Emily. I do hope she's taking care of herself.” Amelia heaved a sigh. “Hmm.” Adrian folded the envelope and turned in his pocket. As he walked towards the stairs, Amelia called for him. “Yes?” He answered without looking at her. “Y - your coat.” She pointed out. “Keep it.” Amelia was left stunned again. Adrian had told her to keep the coat. Then she gasped. ‘Did he find out I didn't own one?’ “Ugh, this is terrible.” Amelia ran her hand through her hair. “I'm terrible.” “Amelia!” Adrian called for her from upstairs “Sir!” she ran to answer him. Her heart was beating loudly in her chest but for some unknown reasons, her cheeks were pinked. The rain poured harder, drumming against the earth. Adrian’s sharp blue eyes scanned the crowd, his chest tightening with unease as he noticed her absence. Amelia wasn’t there. His heart pounded even faster."Where’s Amelia?" his voice came low and dangerous, cutting through the noise of the gathering."I—I don’t know," Sylvia stammered, "She probably went to the washroom or something."Adrian’s eyes narrowed. He didn’t believe her. His wolf stirred restlessly within him, sensing something was wrong."Steven," Adrian said coldly. "Find her."Steven nodded, his expression serious. He disappeared into the crowd. The wind howled as Adrian’s unease morphed into fear. His senses sharpened. Then he smelled it, it was faint but he was sure. It was her scent. And he could sense fear and…water? His head snapped toward the river, and his heart stopped."Amelia," he whispered, then sprinted.Amelia’s limbs were heavy, her lungs screaming for air. Her body drifted deeper into the cold abyss. Her
"Well, well, well, so this is your lover you sneak to. You are cheating on Adrian, aren't you?”"No, no, it isn't what you think, Mrs. Sylvia," Amelia tries to explain but is cut off by Sylvia again."Then what is it? Oh, wait, I guess my eyes were seeing wrongly, isn't it, Mrs. Adrian?" Sylvia said sarcastically."I wouldn't leave Adrian. I would leave Adrian," Sylvia mimicked. "So tell me, what is this supposed to mean?""Oh, what’s the starting point of leaving Adrian?""Mrs. Sylvia, you misunderstood. I and Amelia...," before Vincent could clear the misunderstanding, Sylvia cut him off immediately, completing his unsaid words."...are supposed to be married, but she is now married to Adrian, isn't that what you want to say?""Well, if you know what is best for you, you better remove yourself from this, or else you will face the wrath of Adrian. So leave," Sylvia threatens Vincent.Vincent didn't find her threat threatening, but for the sake of Amelia's safety and not to make thing
“Tell her to make sure she attends the annual hunting event.” He said at once.“Yes Alpha.” Steven replied immediately and bowed as he mentioned this.He was about to leave Amelia's presence when he quickly remembered, “Oh, my lady, one last thing. Sir Adrian mentioned for you to attend the annual hunting event that will be held in the next five days.”“Oh,” Amelia responded, her tone mixed with both a hint of happiness and sadness. She felt sadness that she still couldn't switch to her wolf side, but happiness that she would be able to experience the event for the first time. She had only heard about it but had never attended, as her stepmother and sister would always lock the door or make her do house chores to prevent her from going.“I will attend,” Amelia said to Steven.“Alright, my work is done. I will take my leave, my lady,” Steven mentioned, bowing slightly.Amelia bowed as she greeted him goodbye. She quickly went back to her room, not wanting to see Sylvia again that day.
“You mean the slave he bought?”"You... I'm not a slave," Amelia said, fear and nervousness creeping in. As Sylvia walked around her, she taunted, "You know you can't lie. You seem like a naive little ant." Sylvia looked more demonic than usual, manipulating Amelia and making her feel increasingly anxious. She blew her breath into Amelia's ears, causing her body to jolt uncontrollably. Just then, Amelia felt Sylvia's cold claws on her neck. "Oh yes, and I also know you are an outcast who can't transform." "Who told you that? Well… that… not…" Amelia stammered. "If it's not true, then transform," Sylvia demanded, drawing closer. Amelia turned to face Sylvia, her claws sharp, her eyes, which used to be jade, now dark, her fur threatening to come out. Amelia broke into tears, feeling useless, broken, and dissatisfied with herself. Sylvia's laughter echoed in the quiet sitting room, sending shivers down Amelia's spine. "Amelia, let me tell you something," Sylvia said, walking ar
Amelia froze in her spot, realizing the mistake she made. "I'm sorry, it was a mistake," she said, trying to backtrack. "Do I have to repeat myself?" came the impatient reply. Just then, a knock echoed through the room. Sylvia quickly ran towards the room door."Hey girl” A bunch of classy girls with fierce wolf traits! They exclaimed. "Arghhh, you all came here today?" Sylvia asked, surprised."Didn't you say today?" one of the girls mentioned."Yh, I did say today, but arghhhh, no problem, come in!" "Ohhh my God, I'm so exhausted!" Kaila, the girl with blonde hair, bright shiny black eyes, and an hourglass figure, exclaimed. She circled the room with her friend following behind her. The other girl, Clara, had a round, cute face, and her wolf traits were obvious even in her human form, with light fur on the side of her face, making her cute as well. And then there was Lenora Grey, a rare species in the Moonclaw but often seen in the lagoons, definitely a stray. Her beauty was un
Yes…I..I.” Sylvia's words got stuck in her throat."You misunderstood me, Adrian. I didn't mean I cook; I meant that you should not let Amelia's hard work go down the drain."Sylvia mentioned faking a smile."I know how to appreciate my wife when necessary."Amelia's heart was filled with joy, but just as he mentioned when necessary, she felt a heartache. But nevertheless, she has to keep up.After dinner, Amelia packed up the plates from the dining table to wash. While she was busy Sylvia walked in. "Oh, nice kitchen you have here.""Oh, well, thank you," Amelia said without turning back to spare a glance at who was talking.Sylvia walked to Amelia, dipping her hands into the soapy water and squeezing it. "How did Adrian get to marry you? You reached out, or you dared to seduce him to get his attention, didn't you?""I don't know what you are talking about. Please let go of my hands."Amelia's hands had several cuts and burns, but Sylvia kept squeezing her bruised hand.Just then
