Lady Asher stood at the window, the pale light of the moon showed her lips compressed and her eyes like steel. It highlighted the hardness of her face, the lines of her age were visible. It was impossible to deceive her – her eyes – black and shiny as polished stone contained only evil.

Castilla sat down quietly next to her being prepared for an attack from her grandmother and others; her eyes battling with resolve and annoyance. Her hands became balls of anger, and the feeling traveled through her veins, stiffening her muscles like a storm gathering in a bottle.

Lady Asher frowned and stared at Castilla, her words dripping with reproach; “You were hasty, Castilla. What you just did is capable of destroying everything we have so desperately built for years," she told Castilla with deep disappointment evident in her voice.

Castilla fixed her eyes on her grandmother’s eyes, she had a tight jaw and steady tone. “I had no choice, Grandmother it was for the best, the South pack needed str

Adrianna's POVThe room was shrouded in darkness, the only noise present being our thick breathing while we awaited Cornell’s arrival. My heart beat loudly in my chest, sounding like a drum in my ears with every beat. Even with my attempts to toughen up my nerves, fear still hung around in the back of my thoughts. I inclined my head to look at Agnes and noted her eyes glowing mildly in the dim light, her expression that of fear and anticipation. She sighed every now and then. "Is he meant to be here by now?" I asked."Yes," she responded. "Perhaps he has something to attend to." She shrugged. Almost as soon as she said that, the door groaned, Cornell entered, his presence dominating the weak light coming from the hall. With the ease of someone who had done this many times before, he moved. I noticed the anxiety coming from Agnes as she readied herself for the conflict."Time for your sedative," said Cornell, flashing a wicked smile as he came toward us with a syringe. "Who knows if

  • The Alpha's Slave   A Search

Cyrus's POV**The atmosphere was tense and the air was filled with the smell of the fight, of men and sweat, of blood and fire. The once-pristine walls now bore scars of chaos: shattered rock, broken timber, and broken pieces of all things around. We were in the middle of the dead soldiers and we all paused for a moment, panting, trying to catch our breaths. A complete and utter void filled the air, the only whispers of sound coming from the groans of the injured and the far-off ringing of metal.I looked at my friends and estimated how tired they were, as well as how tired I was myself. Agnes was as white as a sheet with dark circles under her eyes, yet she did not hesitate. Otherwise lively eyes, now had a ghostly appearance, the despair of which we had just experienced mirrored in them. Although their sunken eyes looked lifeless, they burned with determination. He was usually calm but now he looked tense with his movements being more articulate than usual. Adrianna stood stiff, her

**Lord Xeik's POV**A candle was lit on the wooden desk creating shadows on papers scattered all over the table in front of me. The quiet in the room was almost suffocating in a way, the only other sounds being the sound of paper being shuffled as I went through the pack’s accounts. As the new and temporary monarch, I had to understand what was going on in the pack thoroughly. It was a lot more work than being the war minister.I sat back in my chair, studying the very disarranged pile of papers on the table. These documents disclosed much more than these typical expense statements displayed. Beneath the rows of the paper of account and records, there were vague signs of something more diabolical. My mind began to put together the evidence and what I discovered left me feeling weak in the knees. There was one document I found interesting. It detailed regular payments to a town I had never heard of home for shape-shifting creatures within our territories. This surprised me because, acc

Cyrus POVIt was still early morning by the time I got back to the royal capital of what was left of Ghysem. The tension and the pervading stench of blood did not weaken my determination, though. I had been away too long. So much had happened when I left that I don’t know. There was Drusus in the throneroom looking tired, as his psyche had recently been through lots of combat.“It is good to see you, your Majesty," Drussus said with a bow. He was dressed in worn armor, that had the remains of the previous battle caked on it, as evidence of the non-stop battle he had persisted in.“Drusus,” I responded. "It is good to see you. Although it is rather obvious the war is taking its toll on you. Give me your report. I need to know everything.”He started explaining actions he had taken due to desperation. His voice remained quite calm as I knew he must be quite drained by now. "Since you had left, the Southern Pack have become more dirty in fighting. Their shape-shifters sneaked into our m

Tom's POV “Why do you have to go there in person, Captain?” Marcus asked. He was one of the southern soldiers that usually had the most questions. "Surely there must be one of us who could help you relay the message for you."I slightly quirked a brow as I kept my expression tough like Volkov. "We've lost many men. That is a very important mission and I do not wish to endanger any of you any further than has already been necessary. The message has to go through, and I have to be sure that the war minister and king who sent me on this errand can understand well enough."I could see my men look at each other but they quickly agreed to what I had suggested. I picked Marfeh and another shapeshifter I knew, a man named Liam to join me. Together we left the camp and started our journey to the South. The trip through the forest was relatively very silent. The chill of the air was countered by fragrances of forest and earth as the only noises were the quiet crunching of the fallen foliage b

  • The Alpha's Slave   A Missing Clue

Xeik's POV The morning twilight came in through the tall windows of my study, and even though the windows were wide open and the weather was bright and sunny, it was as if some unknown physical force, only the glow close to the edges of the darkness oppressing my mind. The light that was present seemed to falter against the darkness in my mind, the same way that the wind tries to blow away the fog. I walked back and forth, back and forth anxiously. Nothing made sense to me and it felt like my world was collapsing. I honestly wished I had never found anything out, I wished I had not been chosen as temporary monarch. The things I had found out last night tortured me—secret notes to an ally somewhere, receiving stolen money from Ghysem, having a base where shapeshifters were kept for them to be used and I could not forget the black veil that was on King Ares’ wrist. The visions remained fresh as scar. The more I thought about it, the clearer it appeared to me that I needed more informa

**Tom’s POV**As the sun started to rise and warm orange hue sprinkled the room I was given to sleep in. I knew it was time to go back to Ghysem. The fact that I was in the enemy's territory, pretending to be one of them had not let me sleep, my thoughts wove schemes and schemes of lies that formed a single maze in my mind.As I set out, with a new army behind me, a perfect aroma of flowering plants and birds called in the distance. My horse's steps seemed to be more nimble, weighted by the desperate need to push on. It felt as if every shadow in the forest knew the secret I had within me. It was silent other than the sound of the leaves, cracking beneath our horseshoes.Huge trees stood all around, their tops reaching for the heavens as if it were a temple built by the moon goddess herself with the sunlight coming through in spots on the forest floor. The ground was a woodland floor with a bed of fallen leaves.Once we got to Ghysem, I settled the men in and briefed them once more. A

Lord Xeik's POV"Oh," I mumbled, relaxing a little. Then suddenly my defenses heightened, what if Castilla was the one responsible for burning the papers? What if she knew about her father's involvement with shapeshifters, stealing from the South, and whatnot? I dismissed the thought from my mind as quickly as it came, feeling guilty. It was not like King Ares ever included her in decision-making. She did not even attend the early morning briefing that her father had with the noble lords each morning. "May I come in?" Her soft voice floated through the air."Of course," I stuttered, adjusting my robe. "You can come in my lady."The door creaked open slowly. She had a small smile etched on her face as she walked in. Castilla was undeniably beautiful. Her eyes were a warm blue color and her long black hair cascaded down her shoulders. She was wearing a long black dress cinched at the waist and I could not help but stare at how beautifully her body curved in those clothes. Getting a hol
