Theophilus’ POV

It had been a long time since I had been home. I was so close to the border and already my mouth watered in anticipation of the food and local beer, the beer especially. I had traveled to several places while acquiring knowledge and none of them had beer as good as the one brewed in Ghysem.

I missed my father, the practical Lord Salmon who had taught me to appreciate the moment. He had taught me to enjoy the simple things of life and I had lived my life abroad that way. I had never done anything to suggest that I came from money or that I was the son of a nobleman but I had remained as though I had very little and that way I had made good friends and valuable relationships.

Although it felt good to return to the splendor of my birth.

“Theophilus? You do not travel with company?” Theo's voice startled me.

“Theo? My good man,” I said as we drew into a bear hug.

“Welcome home, master Theophilus but I would have missed you. I had expected to see you with an entourage,” rem

Larog's POVI could not entrust anyone else with the task I had set out to do. Cyrus had sent me to the human colonies east of Ghysem to check out a possible alliance of the humans with vengeful shapeshifters. This, to me, was a golden opportunity to create a distraction from the South pack which seemed to be of much interest to Cyrus. If I could convince Cyrus that the humans were indeed responsible for providing refuge to the werewolves, then he would not suspect in the least that his real trouble was located in the South. There was another reason I wanted so badly to enter this place. It was because, for a very long time, many upper-class noblemen were dissatisfied with the fact that we had a human colony so close to us, yet we folded our arms and watched them increase in number. Regardless of their number, they were no threat to the werewolves but many felt that we should inhabit their land and make them into our slaves. I held this view also. The humans were largely not aware of

Larog's POVI had come to scout the location of my interest. As of now, Jarrow was not a very popular town but in the space of weeks, it was about to become one of the most interesting areas in these parts. I was going to make sure of it. I traveled to another part of the town that was secluded from many members of the country. It was the black market where all manners of things were sold; things that would not even turn up in a werewolf market. Humans might be feeble creatures but they were no less wicked than us. In my opinion, they were capable of more cruelty than we werewolves.I arrived at my destination. It was a nondescript building in the middle of nowhere that appeared to all the world as a barber's shop but the cutting that was done inside the building went beyond just hair. This building was the office of one of the darkest and most fearsome black market traders in the human world. His name was Picasso.I knocked once; then thrice and then once. The door was opened to me a

  • The Alpha's Slave   The Price For Gertrude

Larog's POVThere was no change in Picasso's voice at the sound of the name. He simply called someone named Justin and mentioned the name to him. Then he turned to me.“That is going to cost you a lot of gold coins.”“Why? Does the name…”“If I am aiding blackmail I might as well get good money for it,” he grunted.“How much?”He named his price and I expressed my dissatisfaction at the amount he had called. However, that was not going to be a problem. When I did invade this colony I was going to raid his shop and take back all he had ever collected from me..This thought comforted me.“A lot of people think they are going to wipe us out; that ain't possible,” he was looking into my eyes as he said this as though he had read my thoughts. I schooled my expression so that I would not appear smug. The human race was weak; it would not take us much effort to wipe them out if we wanted.“Let's not discuss grim matters that…”“I know what you are.”“I have never hidden my nature from you.”“

Theophilus' POVThe rest of the journey to the palace was marked by silence. It was as though we were afraid to talk less we attract any more arrows. When we arrived at the palace I was escorted by Theo only through a rather secret corridor. I believe this part of the palace was unknown to most people. I had practically grew up in the palace and this was the first time I was seeing this place.Theo led me to a room and when the door was open I saw my father seated on a chair and the Alpha across him. They appeared to be in deep conversation and did not hear us enter.“Your Majesty,” I greeted Cyrus and when he looked in my direction his face lit up with a smile.“Theophilus! Come here!” he said excitedly and we embraced. I was happy to see my friend.“Father,” I said to my father but he only hummed in response, barely acknowledging me. I knew the man loved me greatly so I was not bothered by his half-hearted response I was only glad to see that he was alive and well.“Hope you learned

Moana’s POVI accessed the man opposite me with bored eyes. He was cocky, very much so. He spoke with the confidence of someone who knew he could get away with anything and have his way with any woman.“My lady you see my favourite pastimes are all in the gambling den and the inns too, I do think I would miss my studies abroad very much. Of course, Ghysem does offer the same attractions but I have to worry about my reputation especially since my father's is already in the mud. I must say, I was surprised your father let me call on you. You know given the latest scandal about…”“Our engagement will be announced tonight. I will be hosting the soiree here; do well to come on time and for goodness sake put on something proper,” I cut him off mid-sentence. He had been going on and on and I could tell that he was doing everything possible to appear the least attractive and he seemed quite confident that I could back off. He was wrong.“What? Our engagement? I have not made a proposal,” he s

Does he not wish to be present at my wedding? It's already a pity mother will not…”“He warned me that you might go all sentimental on me; he was also right about that,” Theo said, taking a sip of his wine.“I am not getting married,” I said, not looking at Theo's face.“It is cute you think this is your choice but I shall pretend it is, why not? do you not find Moana satisfactory?” he asked.“She is beautiful, very much so. Much more than I had anticipated but I…”“Then it is settled then you shall get engaged tonight. In the event of your father's disappearance, the Alpha is going to act in the place of your father and the Alpha has put me in charge of ensuring that you get married without delay as per your father's request,” Theo's voice was loud only to the point where I heard him.“Can you give me a week? That should have been a walkover. It should have been an easy job! Why isn't anything going my way,” she screamed as though she was in agony and then slapped me hard across the cheek with all her might so much so that it provoked a moan of pain from me.“You silly, stupid human! Your head should have gone flying across the room. I am not even strong anymore, is that what you are trying to tell me?” she slapped me even harder this time and drew blood.“Theophilus escaped us? Gertrude's POV“Gertrude hon, you did not meet that strange man again, did you?” my mother asked me as soon as I stepped into the house.“No, why do you ask?” I asked rather innocently.“Nothing, were you able to buy the seasoning?” she asked.“Of course,” I gave her the items I had bought and watched her walk into the kitchen.I had lied. I had seen the strange man on my way back just as he had been leaving our compound. He had given me a sneaky smile and made even more sneaky comments about me before walking off.It was easy to guess that he had been here and he had wanted something from my mother.I also knew what would happen tonight. When the clock struck twelve that night I saw my mother walk into Gerard's room. I followed her softly so she would not hear me. She left the door ajar and I could see her kneel by my brother's bedside and then tap him softly.Gerard woke up and before he could protest she had arrested his eyes with hers. The once desolate and war-torn area was now a hive of activity. Men and women toiled side by side, lifting beams, hammering nails, and repairing the damage. Children, their faces smeared with dirt, played amidst the construction, their laughter a hopeful sign of better days to come.Theophilus paused at the entrance of one of the larger shelters, admiring the ingenuity and resilience of his people. Lady Asher's screams echoed through the dimly lit chambers of the southern palace, the sound waves reverberating off the stone walls. Her monthly blood flow had not come, and a subtle queasiness had taken up residence in her stomach. Lad—Ashlynn,” she said in a shaky voice, her words little more than a breath. She originally had meant to say her title, Lady Asher, but there was something about the warmth Ares was giving her that made her change her mind.Ares' eyes were shown in delight. They had sent word to other neighboring packs in the West and East so there was no place for Lady Asher to hide. Each day was spent in anguish and constant nightmares for Cyrus. He kept seeing himself hanging from the ceiling with a black veil on his wrist. Other times, he would see Agnes; her face contorted in pain as she swung from the ceiling, a black veil tied around her wrist and anytime he cut the rope, trying to save her it would be too late.He would end up bringing down a lifeless body. Then he would wake up, covered in sweat and panting heavily like he was fighting a physical war.
