37| Make Him See It.

The next day, I don't let Sandra come to me first. Instead, I go to find her bright and early in the morning. I'm directed to the workers' quarters.

A place I'm all too familiar with. I had lived in this same quarter for eighteen years. And my room was the worst of it. If you could even call the shoebox I lived in a room.

Lord, now that I remember all the things I passed through, I can clearly say that they were inhumane. I was just a kid. I didn't deserve all of that.

Some of the people I used to know cast me curious glances as I walked through their midst. They're probably wondering what I'm doing back here.

In their minds, I have outgrown this place. It's no longer for me; I don't belong here anymore. But some part of me will always belong beneath the surface and on top of the gutters.

I ask for directions to Sandra's room from a nearby person, and she points me towards the last door down the hallway.
