"NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!" I scream running to Darius' side. "THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!" I scream.I pick him up, laying his head in my lap. I cut my wrist once again, hoping to be able to save him. However, I can already tell that I'm too late.I begin to feel slightly faint from all the blood loss, but don't allow it to cloud my mind. My focus and priority is on Darius, and Darius alone. Why didn't I do something? I knew what was about to happen, but I was too late. Why is this happening?Xander's roars of laughter made my blood boil. Hearing him erupt into laughter after the death of my family is more than enough to trigger my hatred for this man.Just like that, everything started to become overwhelming. I felt my body begin to surge with my emotions. I was like an incandescent lamp, and my hatred for Xander was my fuel.I felt far stronger than I ever had before. I no longer felt in control of my own body. Even Caedance had gone quiet. It was like a force had taken over the both of us
As if proving his last statement, I watch as Xander raises his hands, his eyes glowing a vivid shade of black, as a ring of fire erupts from all around us. Xander may possess demonic powers now, but nothing is ever truly immortal. Everyone and everything has some sort of weakness. I don't know how to do it, or if it's even possible, but I want, no need to kill Xander. He may be the walking dead, but even zombies can be killed. Before I can think of a solution, I watch as Xander stands up, if you can even call it that. As he never once bent his knees or showed any sign of natural human movement. Rather he sort of just floated from a position on the ground to a standing up position, making himself appear larger in size. It was creepy, but I couldn't allow myself to dwell on it. A bunch of wolves come running out of the forest behind Xander. It must be the backup that Kenji had told me was coming. I smirk knowing that Xander's chances of winning are narrowing. With backup here, my odds
...Kenji POV...I've lost track of time n regard to how long it's been since all hell broke loose. With the help of Darius and Wynter, we were able to get the perimeter fortified. It wasn't an easy task, but we managed to achieve it. Unbeknownst as to why, all of the vampires that had been attacking us, had suddenly just disappeared. It wasn't much long after Wynter had left to help the others. I couldn't explain what happened, only that I was grateful for it. Many of our warriors had been injured in the chaos, however, luckily for us, the death toll was still small. I had mind linked Genesis at the beginning of all of this, and had her lead all the woman and children to safety. I was still worried about her, but knew she was safe. If she wasn't I would've felt it by now. I wanted to see her, but I knew I couldn't until I received the all clear from Darius. It would be too risky to go to her now. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something happened to her or our pups.Just a
...Wynter POV...Even though Xander was gone, I didn't feel any different. I still felt lost. I felt like my purpose in life had been taken from me. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them, I found myself at Darius' side once more. I had picked up his lifeless body, and continued to hold him in my arms. Nothing around us mattered anymore. I felt myself crumble beside him. I no longer felt strong enough to even hold my head up. I wrapped Darius' arm around me as I placed my head on his chest for the last time. I think part of me was desperate to hear his heartbeat. However, his heart had long since stopped beating. I knew Darius was dead, but my mind wouldn't allow me to comprehend what that even meant. My tears seemed to take on a life of their own. Flowing like a waterfall from my face, onto his chest. The rain had stopped, but even then my mood didn't seem to notice. I felt an eerily coldness. Darius once comforting warmth, long gone. Only to be replaced by the corpse next to me.
...Wynter POV...Beep.Beep.Beep."Is there anything that we can do?"Beep.Beep.Beep."What do you want me to do? The Alpha is dead. I'm a doctor not a witch doctor. I can't revive a corpse."Beep.Beep.Beep."I'm aware of that. But we need to do something. You saw the way she was when we brought her in. She's hysterical. She just lost her mate. She nearly killed us when we tried to put him in a separate room."Beep.Beep.Beep."She's sedated now, but we can't sedate her forever. She's going to wake up, and when she does, we need to prepare ourselves for what will happen next."Beep.Beep.Beep."You're not insinuating what I think you are."Beep.Beep.Beep."You know just as well as I do, that we may have no other choice. If Wynter presents a threat to this pack, we'll have to destroy her."Beep.Beep.Beep."That's mutiny! The alpha may be gone, but I won't support you in killing our Luna. She's the only thing we have left!"Beep.Beep.Beep."You know we have no other choice.
...Kenji POV...Wynter had been with Darius for a few hours already. I had gone back to her room and begun pacing, desperately trying to figure out what to do next. I didn't want to give up on Wynter, just like the doctor seemed to have done. A thought came to mind, mind it be a desperate one, but at this point, we didn't have any other option. I ran out into the hallway, looking for the doctor from earlier. It didn't take long for me to find him. He was standing in front of the nurses' desk, reading over a report from one of his patients."Where're Wynter's parents?" I ask him, getting straight to the point."Rooms 605 and 706. Why?" He asks."I think they may just be the key to fixing this.""But they're not even her real parents." The doctor begins, making me spin on my heel to look at him."Does that really matter? They may not be her birth parents, but they are the only parents she's ever been given the chance to know. If anyone can help her right now, they can.""Are you sure a
I continued to stare at the door in complete shock. My mind had yet to catch up with the circumstances. I was rendered speechless as I attempted to fathom what I'd just witnessed. My mind had to be playing tricks on me. How else could I explain what happened? There wasn't an explanation."Dude!"I feel someone shake me, only to realize that I'd been left staring at the door, and had temporarily forgotten everyone else standing around me.I turn to look at an annoyed Hunter, who seems to be seconds away from slapping me. As if on cue, I watch his hand raise, and come towards my face. I quickly reach up, grabbing his wrist in the process, preventing him from making contact."About time." Hunter remarks."I almost got a hit on you." Hunter says, feigning a laugh."Only in your dreams. You haven't been successful with landing a hit on me yet." I remark, shrugging my shoulders; earning me a grimace and an eye roll from Hunter."That's only because it's not right to hit your elders." Hunter
...Wynter POV...I was absolutely terrified. I didn't know what to do. I was already an emotional wreck, and that was before that man had entered the room. I hated knowing that Darius' fate was on my shoulders, and my shoulders alone. Wasn't there anyone else that could do this? Couldn't the vampire from earlier do this instead? He would probably have much better experience than me. I knew we didn't have time for delays, so I went to Darius. The doubts in my mind continued to grow wild, as I looked at the open wound in his chest. Praying for the familiar rhythm of his heart to come back. I was psyching myself out, and I was well aware of that. I took a deep breath, and focused on what was important. I closed my eyes, concentrating on my vampiric side. I felt my canines elongate further than they ever had before. They changed from their sharp form to razor-like needles. I ran my tongue along them, and was surprised by how sharp they'd become. I bent lower, closer to his heart. The s
