Chapter Seventeen: Know Your Place

Devyn’s POV

I could feel her perceptible misery from the room. Her emotions cast a heavy shadow, intertwining with my own emotions. It weighed on me, causing my wolf to whimper in response to his mate. Yet, I shut him out.

I felt revolted that he was acting in such a way because of a woman.

A difficult one at that. But that was the thing about the mate bond. No matter how shitty that person was, it would be hard to resist.

I wasn’t going to let her out just yet.

It was what she deserved. And perhaps after that, she would learn to control her sharp tongue and know not to disrespect me. Though I had so much in mind to teach her a lesson, I found myself restraining for some reason I did not understand.

Being locked alone in the dark was something I had grown used to in my past, and I knew it was enough to make one lose their mind.

The thought of it made a shiver run down my spine as a haunting memory tried to resurface but I quickly pushed it to the back of my mind.

The day was already
