Devyn

“Go fuck yourself.”

She bit out her words without hesitation, not a single ounce of fear in her.

My blood boiled with anger, as a torrent of rage coursed through my veins. I struggled to contain the primal urge to snap her little neck with my bare hands. No one, not even Wilona whom I’d practically grown up with dared to speak to me in such a manner. did—they wouldn’t live to. But there she was, defiantly glaring at me with those warm fiery eyes of hers, hurling curses at me.

My grip on her arm remained firm, as she fought desperately to free herself from my grasp. I wanted to teach her a lesson, to make her understand that I would not tolerate disrespect. I had a bad temper, one that was difficult to control, and she seemed to have a knack for pushing all the right buttons. However, one look at her petite fragile frame, her exquisite face, and her sexy body that didn’t hide well under the clothes I had bought for her, my resolve softened.

She was important to me.

My inner wolf growled, his primal senses

overpowering mine as he repeated a single word like a relentless chorus.

Mate. Mate. Mate.

He wanted her body and soul, while I wanted her power.

She was both important to us.

The goddess, in her wisdom, had been so kind enough to grant me a mate. A stubborn, fiercely uncontrollable one at that.

How nice.

As much as my senses and urges heightened at the mere sight of her, and the powerful true mate scent that enveloped her nearly made me lose my fucking mind, I resented it all.

I never asked for a mate.

She was a liability and a responsibility I couldn’t just cast aside even though I wanted to. It wasn't just because of the mate bond that tethered us, but her importance as the Sacred Wolf. I couldn't deny that I was enticed by her, even though I fought hard against it. It was a weakness on my part, and I had never been one to wrestle with my emotions.

Having a destined mate meant soul-binding, and I was incapable of feeling. It was how I had always been from the beginning. I had witnessed how the mate bond turned people into prisoners of their emotions, and I wasn’t going to let that be the case for me.

Still, she was mine.

An insatiable desire to claim, protect, dominate, and exert control over her surged within me. I was going to break her and then reshape her into what I wanted.

I was going to use her.

This was my bad habit, one that molded me into the monster I had become.

“Let go of me.” She squirmed and I felt my groin twinge with pleasure and longing.

I gritted my teeth, fighting my urges. “Stop struggling, woman!” I let go of her before I would lose the little control I had left and have my way with her.

Scowling, she stormed away from the dining room and towards the stairs, probably to her room. But I didn’t fail to catch the unmistakable smell of arousal that came from her.

Guess I wasn’t the only one fighting from sexual urges.

When she finally left, my wolf quieted. Though her scent still lingered in the air, making every fiber of my body burn with intense pleasure.

I groaned before diving into my food, trying to take my mind off her.

I let out an involuntary groan from my chest before I focused my attention on the plate of food in front of me.

As I tried to shift my thoughts away from her, I couldn't deny that I secretly loved this little game of ours where she would constantly provoke me. The anger she incited in me was one laced with an insatiable desire, and I found myself inexplicably drawn to it, yearning for more.

However, I had some businesses to attend to.

I sent a telepathic message to Wilona and Liam, instructing them to meet me at the Wolfhold in a few minutes.

When I was done with my meal, I hopped into my car and drove off towards the forest. It was roughly a ten-minute drive and I didn't feel the need to transform into my Wolf to get there. I emerged out of my car and was immediately welcomed by my men guarding the entrance of the ominous building.

The Wolfhold was concealed deep within the heart of the forest, that served as both a fortress and a prison, where enemies were kept, awaiting my judgment.

A massive wrought-iron gate adorned with intricate wolf motifs stood at the entrance of the building and its walls were constructed from ancient timber and stones that told a lot about its age.

I was guided into the building and onto a dimly lit, subterranean passage, till we reached a dark confinement at the end of the passage. Early that morning, enemy wolves had tried to get passed through the security but were killed instantly, and one was kept alive for questioning.

Wilona and Liam were already there waiting, standing in front of the confinement.

“Where’s the prisoner?” I asked Liam who directed me to the room where the prisoner was held captive. The eerie darkness and isolation in the Wolfhold were intentional, a form of additional torment for the prisoners.

“In there. He’s passed out cold.” Liam responded.

I turned to the tormentor whose appearance

seemed to match his cruel role of torturing implacable enemies who refuse to disclose information. “Wake him.”

With an eerie creak, the cell door swung open, and the tormentor entered the pitch-black room.

Strange guttural sounds emanated from within, accompanied by the tormentor’s gruff voice. When he emerged from the room, I stepped in, Liam and Wilona following behind me.

My werewolf sight adjusted to the darkness and the prisoner came into focus. He was huddled against the wall, every inch of his body bound with chains made from the only material that could keep a werewolf in place and burn through the skin like searing fire… silver.

I loomed over him, the stench of the room making my nose crinkle in disgust.

“I’ll pose some questions and you will answer directly, and then I will grant you a quick merciful death.” I declared in a tone that brooked no nonsense. The man remained silent but his tense posture indicated that he was listening.

My patience wore thin as I pressed further, “Who sent you?” His unyielding silence ignited a surge of rage within me. Without hesitation, I sent a brutal kick to his face as he hit the wall, the sickening sound of bone breaking echoing through the room.

He remained silent. I asked again and when he didn't respond, I sent another kick to his face. He grunted in pain, as he got up from the ground.

“Still not going to talk?” My hand casually found the silver blade resting on a nearby table, surrounded by a chilling display of torture tools. His eyes locked onto the glinting blade in my grasp, a sharp intake of breath betraying his fear. I crouched low till I was at his level. The pungent smell of fear wafted through my nostrils, enveloping my mind like a fucking drug, feeding the beast within.

My wolf roared within me.

Good.

“Who sent you?” I asked for the last time. When he didn’t speak, I plunged the blade into his chest, missing his heart intentionally. He wailed in agony as the silver burned and cut through skin and muscles. He coughed out blood onto my shirt and I slashed his mouth just for that. His agonizing screams filled the room.

Fucking wolves and their damned loyalty. I was growing tired of it.

“You’re going to kill him before he speaks,” Wilona said behind me and I shot her a dirty look.

The man said something from his slashed mouth, blood sputtering as he spoke.

“He will win, and the Sacred Wolf will be under his power,” his slashed mouth moved into an ugly sneer, “Just wait and see.” With that, he spat on my face.

Instantly, I plunged the blade into his throat and watched as he choked on his blood, his eyes widening in shock and terror. Then with a slight amount of strength, I cut his head off clean.

My rage subsided and I washed my hands and the spittle off my face. I dried my hands with a towel and turned to the Tormentor, “Clean this mess.”

Then I turned to Wilona and Liam who didn't look any bit surprised. “Tighten the borders and the security. No doubt more of them are going to come.”

They were after the Sacred Wolf, and whoever sent them didn’t mind the risk. They were desperate to take control of her unique abilities, to use her for whatever evil deeds they deemed.

She was my mate, my possession. her powers belonged to me and I wasn’t going to let anyone take it away from me.

I turned to Wilona and Liam; My trusted Beta and Gamma who I could trust with the pack.

“Don’t let Gina far into the estate again,” I narrowed my eyes at them, sending a warning.

“If anything happens to her, I’ll kill you both myself.”
