Chapter One-One-Three: 'Mallory'

"Ma'am! Ma'am!"

My eyes open, but the slight twinge of pain that typically follows unrestful sleep, however, protests heavily to keeping them open.

"Mm, what?"

I groan as I try to wave the lights away.

"You need to get ready for the venue trip."

The new maid, Gina, is no different from Christina—A new name but the same habits.

"What time is it?"

I ask groggily as I try and peer outside, but my curtains are still drawn. Considering they needed to turn on the lights, the sun is most definitely not out yet.

"It's four a.m., but-"

"Are you kidding me? Four? The appointment was at eight. I get that you want a promotion, but this is not the way…"

I groan as I shrink deeper into the bedding. My world may be burning, but nothing beats a good night's rest.

"Yes, at eight, but we meet them at quite a distance, so it would be best if we got started ear-"
