Ike is at the door today. “Ready to go get our Princess?” He asks with a smile.

“Yes, Ike. Then we’re going to the library. I promised her we would visit during the week this week, since I’m not back to work yet.”

“I’m pretty sure Miss Maddie will love that,” he says, knowing how much she loves reading. All of the members of the security team have really taken to her and none of them have complained about sitting in on her classes either. It’s strange but sweet. They’re like a group of big brothers for her.

We step outside and head to the SUV. As we are opening our doors, Ike pauses and turns around, scanning the forest and perimeter. His shoulders are tense, and I can hear him taking in deep breaths through his nose.

“Ike, is everything okay?” I ask, suddenly feeling uneasy.

“Yes, ma’am. It just felt like we were being watched, but I don’t see anyone. Sorry if I alarmed you.” He replies as he gets into the vehicle. I buckle my seatbelt trying to steady my heartrate. I’m not
