(Lucas’s POV)

I took a deep breath before knocking on my father’s door.

I expected him to call out for me to come in, but instead he opened the door himself.

When he saw me, I saw his shoulders tense up slightly.

“I already understand that what I did was wrong,” he said as he walked back to his desk, which had this open box on top of it. “You don’t have to yell at me again.”

I sighed as I closed the door. “I am here to apologize, and maybe you and I could talk.”

He looked at me as if he were trying to understand the words I just spoke. He couldn’t believe it.

He looked down at the box and pulled out a picture. “Chloe’s mom doesn’t know about this box, but I did keep some things of your mom.”

A smile came to his lips as he looked at the picture.

He stretched out his arm and handed it to me. “She was so beautiful.&rdq

(Paul’s POV)I had been keeping my ear out for what was going on in this house.I did want to be the next Alpha, but I knew that the moment Lucas showed back up, my position was threatened.Adolphus had even stopped giving the same amount of attention he had before. My parents almost never had time for me, so when he took me under his wing, I felt seen and acknowledged. He became like the father I had always wanted but never got.I was eavesdropping, and I knew that Lucas had now changed his mind and wanted to be an Alpha. (Landon’s POV)I was all smiles when I went back to the Airbnb I had booked for Isabella and I for our stay in the city.I don’t know why Celina was trying to pretend like she didn’t finally turn herself into a werewolf for me, I thought with a smirk. She knew I was coming for her because our bond was stronger than the one I had with Isabella.“I found a new place for us to visit while we settled here.” Isabella said excitedly, “I didn’t know just how much more was out there till you brought me for this trip.”She was very happy about this, but I wanted to end things with her. I found Celina, and she was a werewolf now; I didn’t need Isabella anymore and besides, she knew this was a marriage of convenience.“We are going back.” I stated with an air of finality as I went to the bedroom to start packing our stuff. If I was going to end things, I didn’t want to have to do it this far from home, away from what she knew, and far from her home. I wasn’t that inconsiderate.Ironical, I thoug

(Celina’s POV) I didn’t know how long I had been trapped in the cage, and I had been denying any food given to me by them. I didn’t think I could hold on anymore, as the hunger was getting to me and I was starting to feel myself craving for meat. “I made this for you myself; please just have some,” Lucas said as he pushed the tray of food inside the cage. I stared at the food and back at him. “What makes you think that I trust you?” He sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat. “I didn’t want this to be how this played out, trust me.” “Yet you stood there and let it happen.” I retorted, his excuse not meaning anything but my hunger not being able to let me be so proud. “You might hate me for that, but it’s for your own good.” He tried to reassure me, “It is hard for a human who just turned to a werewolf to navigate out there with no guidance.” “You did it.” “With the help of Brody, without him,”

(Flashback, Third-Person POV) “I thought that was meant to be my choice!” Lucas barked, slapping his hand on the table. This was like a morning routine for the people in the big house. Lucas and Adolphus have been arguing ever since he turned sixteen and was soon to lycanthrope. While Lucas felt he wasn’t ready to become an Alpha, as he would like to say, ‘he had a world to explore before settling down’, Adolphus was already trying to find him a mate. “You are the son of an Alpha, and you’re going to become an Alpha, and that’s final!” Adolphus voice boomed all over the house; the vibration of his voice echoing around the house made it seem like everything had stopped making any sound. Elizabeth, Adolphus’ mate, and Lucas’ mother tried to ease up the tension on the breakfast table. “How about we all relax, and we can revisit this when we are all calm, okay?” She looked at Lucas, then at Adolphus. Lucas stood up, grabbe

(Landon’s POV) The last person I expected to be opening the door when I went back to try and find Celina was Isabella. I frowned. “What did you do?” She rolled her eyes. “I would ask you the same thing; are you here to beg me to take you back?” She smiled cockily, like she knew I’d come back. “I am wondering what you have told the love of my life, and why you even knew where to find her?” Isabella’s smile dropped. “She isn’t here; at least I haven’t seen her for the days I’ve been here.” She said this as she walked back into the house. I was about to step in when I heard someone clear their throat behind me. It was this older gentleman who said, “We have been getting a lot of guests this week; are you also a friend of Celina and Lucas?” I didn’t even bother to respond, “I am just here for Celina, and I’ll be out of your hair.” “She isn’t here.” The man replied. “Who are you?” I a

(Celina’s POV) My time in isolation had given me ample time to think about everything. How did I get to this point in my life? Locked in this isolated, cold, dark room—if I could call it a room, it felt more like a prison. It also allowed me to test my skills—thanks to the books Landon had given me—by pushing every limit each day to see just how far I could push myself. This did wear me off, and I had to eat random bugs and things that crawled around in the dark and drink water from the bathroom. Each time I had to scrounge for a bug or a rodent or drunk bathroom water, I could feel my hatred for Adolphus grow. What he didn’t know was just how thin the partitioning between his office and my prison was. I could hear everything he said, but I also could hear how every night Lucas would come and talk to me through the partition while he tried to find a way to open the locked door. “I am going to get you ou

It made me have a different perception of life and freedom. The first thing on my mind was food—actual food—and not the bugs that sustained me while I was locked in there. But before I could even leave the study, Belinda opened the door.I cursed under my breath, as I didn’t exactly have the energy to go head-to-head with a witch. One look at me, and her eyes went wide. “Sweetie, what happened to you?” The concern in her voice was real, right? Why are you asleep at this time of the morning?” Landon replied, a mischievous glint in his eyes. (Brody’s POV)[Eve of the Full Moon.]We were unable to hide the truth from everyone, as most of the night Celina had been howling. It made most people unable to sleep; they actually came out to find the source of the howling on the night before the full moon.“You have to put her to sleep so the rest of our guests can sleep too.” Belinda suggested. There was something going on in this house, but I had yet to piece everything together.“I don’t want to have my guest too exhausted for tomorrow night.” Adolphus, who I had learned was Lucas’ father, chimed in, “The point of coming to stay here is so they can rest up for the full moon while they network.” He mumbled the last part. I guess he forgot that most of us were werewolves. No one wanted to volunteer, so I guess I was the one to do this.I stepped forward, “How do we go about sedating her?
