"My King, is there a problem?" Rick went closer and asked in a hushed undertone.
Kellan said nothing still, his gaze on the strange lady.
Finally, he took some steps towards her, causing the people to draw their breaths and shift uncomfortably. Scarlett was confused and just kept watching.
He stopped halfway to where she was, when her looks became too confusing for him. Something about her seemed so familiar. She had the same body features as the lady from the other night. But her hair and eye color was contradicting. He was damn sure the hair and eyes of his mate were red. But the hair and eyes of the lady in front of him was black. It wasn't adding up.
'They're not the same person. They just look alike.' he thought to himself.
That was the possible explanation. They simply just looked alike.
Conclusively, he turned away and walked back to where a table and chair had been arranged for him. Winter had seen the whole thing and felt very disturbed. For a long time, she stole glances at Scarlett, wondering why the King stared at her like that, like she was someone familiar.
"Let it begin." Kellan gave Rick the go ahead. He was now seated comfortably in his chair.
Bowing his head, Rick faced the people before him. He gave them the instructions on what to do, as well as the rules and regulations. As he spoke, Scarlett kept thinking about the Alpha King and why he had stared so intently at her. She could swear she was the one being looked at. His sapphire eyes were too locked on her for her to be mistaken. The question was why? Has she done something wrong without her even knowing?
"I need you all in pairs! Come on! Everyone, find someone to pair with." Rick gave the final command.
Slight mumblings were heard as the people made their choice. It turned out there was an odd number because Scarlett was the only one left out. Nobody made an attempt to pair with her, instead, they all gave her those repugnant looks like she was a gold-digger.
"I can't imagine myself pairing with her." One of the ladies spoke in muffled tones to another.
"She shouldn't even be here. This selection is meant for people from noble families alone. She's a nobody." Another said with an eye roll.
Scarlett could clearly hear them, but she remained calm, waiting for whatever would happen. She was the only one left, so she figured the beta will have something to do about it.
Perched upon his regal seat, Kellan observed the details unfolding before him. He noticed how everyone deliberately avoided the lady like she was some kind of plaque. Nobody wanted to pair with her, and that made him curious. Were they avoiding her because there was something wrong with her? Or was it because she was too powerful for them?
In all of this, what intrigued him the most was her calmness. She appeared so unbothered and maintained this rigid expression. She looked tough - he admitted
"Um... turns out we have one person left out." Rick pointed out, looking at Scarlett. "What do we possibly do?"
Silence stretched. Rick was about suggesting something, but the King's voice interrupted him.
"What's your name?"
Everyone looked at the king as he rose from his seat, his eyes on Scarlett.
Scarlett arched her brows. She had planned to remain unbothered no matter what may happen, but she never made plans on how to react if the King paid attention to her.
He's the Supreme King, for Selene's sake! The Alpha of every other Alpha! The most powerful ruler in the country. She never imagined herself being worthy in his eyes, let alone getting his attention. What was happening?
"S... Scarlett, my King." She dipped her head.
Kellan advanced towards her, his strides deliberate and unhurried. Each step he took echoed calculated grace of a predator closing in on its prey.
If it wasn't for how well-trained Scarlett was, she'd have definitely taken a step back. She hardly feared the sight of anyone. As a matter of fact, she couldn't recall the last time she stammered. But the man in front of her was no ordinary man. He was the King!
"Scarlett." Kellan repeated the name like a melody.
He stopped barely three feet away from her.
"Why is everyone avoiding you? Do you have any idea?"
Scarlett's forehead wrinkled. She was tempted to look him in the face, but she kept her head bowed.
"I have no idea, my king. Maybe, they fear me." She answered as politely as possible.
Kellan gave out a light chuckle. "They fear you? How strong are you?"
Scarlett gave no reply. Her insides were burning already and she wanted nothing more than to have some space.
"I'm curious, Scarlett. I'm curious to know how powerful you are. So, I'm challenging you to a fight."
For the first time, Scarlett got the courage to look at him. Surprise flickered across her face, she couldn't conceal it. Was the King challenging her to a fight?!
Shock rippled through the people. They couldn't believe Scarlett was getting the King's attention that much. Majority of them had expected her to be totally ignored and if possible, get kicked out. But there she was, getting the King's attention!
"What do you say, Scarlett? I believe you should be bold enough to fight me." Kellan turned away from her, returning to his table.
Scarlett wanted to believe she was in a trance. Why would the king challenge her to a fight? It was normal for him to challenge anyone, but why her of all people?
She watched him take off his expensive watch and ring. Shit! This was getting real.
There was no way she could say no to his challenge. That would make her look weak and probably get her kicked out. Hell, no; she couldn't afford to lose her job on her first day.
Done taking off his jewelries, Kellan cocked his head at her. She was still in the crowd, but slowly, she stepped out, approaching him.
From the way she walked, he could guess her defense stances already. He's been fighting for years and could easily guess an opponent's first attack tactics. And speaking from experience, she was likely to attack him from the right.
He interlaced his fingers behind his back and watched calmly as she stood in front of him. She bowed in obeisance, her glossy ponytail flipping as she did.
"I accept your challenge, my king."
Kellan walked further into the middle of the field. Scarlett followed. The people's eyes brimmed with anticipation, hungrily awaiting the spectacle about to unfold.
Scarlett and the King took their stance in the middle of the field. And with Scarlett bowing one more time, she clenched her hands into tight fists, ready to engage.
Kellan was calm and just watched her. He could tell she wanted to throw the first attack but was restricting herself since he was the king. With his hands, he signaled her not to pull any restrains and throw the first attack.
Scarlett decided to stop acting nice and face him already. Yes, he was the king and she was afraid of him, but he asked for the fight. Moreover, her job was on the line.
With the speed of lightning, she charged towards him, throwing a kick to his left. Kellan was quick enough to notice that movement and deflected it just before it'd get to him. He watched her a draw a deep breath and take a step back.
Hell! He was surprised. From her stance, he had expected her to attack from his right. How the hell did she do the opposite? Did she actually fake her stance just to confuse him? If she did, then that was pretty good.
He studied her get ready for another strike. Deciding not to give her the chance, he strikes first, throwing a kick that got her right on the side of her waist. He was impressed when she didn't flinch or react to the pain but went ahead to attempt a fist punch at him. He ducked and she ended up punching the air beside his face.
Swiftly, he clasped her hand, attempting to twist it, only to find himself thwarted as she skillfully wriggled free from his grasp and unleashed a high kick in his direction. But like a shadow in the wind, he effortlessly sidestepped the oncoming attack, making her kick the wind.
She stepped back and took her stance, and right there, frustration flashed across her face. Obviously, it was frustrating not being to get him at any point as it was more like he could guess her every move. She knew it wasn't going to be difficult defeating the King, but she hated losing altogether.
The King struck st her when she didn't expect, but she was quick enough to duck. And lowering to the ground, she kicked him on his left leg.
Yes!
Though, he didn't flinch, but her heart warmed up at the thought of finally touching a piece of him. He was seeming too untouchable.
She retook her stance, a small smile finding her lips. Kellan noticed the joy on her face and didn't know exactly how to feel. Why did it look so cute that she was happy about hitting him?
'Take her joy away.' his evil mind told him.
Then, he decided to stop playing soft and defeat her.
Scarlett noticed a difference in his next strikes. She tried all she could to maneuver and counterattack, but it was so difficult. The King had become totally impossible to defeat.
The fight went on for a little while and Kellan was sure she should be weak already. He got her at one point where he clasped her hands and was at the verge of releasing his final fist on her, when suddenly he paused. She was so close to him, the air around them seemed to still. And right there, he looked deep into her eyes, searching for any sign of fear. He's dealt with a lot of people, and at that point, they were always weak and scared.
But staring at this lady's eyes, he found no such thing. Instead, her eyes rimmed with anger and determination. Right there, he could see her wishes for him to be a regular wolf so she could beat his ass. She wanted to get her own pound of flesh.
A fierce fighter. He's never seen a woman like her before.
He was at the verge of observation when his wolf suddenly came awake inside of him. Her scent... A little of her scent slipped out, and right there, why did it feel so familiar?
Scarlett noticed the king's distraction and wondered what was running through his mind. She decided to make use of the advantage and break free from his grasp. The king noticed this, and reflexively, he put her to the ground, delivering the final strike. He didn't intend doing that, it just happened out of reflex when she tried to get away.
And just like that, the scent was gone. He became even more confused. What was that scent? And why was it powerful enough to trigger his wolf? Was he mistaken again?
He gave a long stare as she laid on the ground and tried getting to her feet. He turned around and began walking away, causing tension amongst the people.
"Hey, are you okay?" One of the ladies rushed towards Scarlett, helping her from the floor.
Scarlett was tempted to push her hand away. Why was she suddenly caring when they all rejected her a while ago. However, the girl had a warm smile on her face and Scarlett decided to ignore her thoughts.
"That was really brave of you." She chuckled when Scarlett was finally on her feet.
Scarlett took a quick glance at her. Hazel-color hair framed her face, while a sprinkle of delicate freckles danced across her cheeks. She was beautiful.
She looked away from her and focused on the King walking away. She never thought a man could be so powerful.
"My King, are you alright?" Rick ran after Kellan as he exited the field.
He had done a good job in beating the lady's ass, so he wondered why the King was looking that way...upset.
"Coordinate the rest of the fights." Kellan instructed, his voice cloaked in a grumpy haze.
"And as for the girl, Scarlett," he stopped walking. "I want her to be my new assistant."
Scarlett didn't participate in any more battles for the rest of the day since she already fought with the king. Also, there were no corrections to be made as she had shown her perfect skills.Rick coordinated the rest of the people, pointing out the errors of some, and applauding the others that were good. After a long time, the training came to an end with Rick telling them he'd be assigning them to their various positions the next day. This got them curious and excited.Everyone started dispatching, majority of them glancing and talking about Scarlett. Of course, she was the topic of the day. Even though the King had defeated her, they were still able to notice her powerful fighting skills.Scarlett got her bag and was exiting the field when the hazel-colored girl ran up to her."Hi. I'm Aria." She extended her hand for a handshake.Scarlett was tempted to turn her down, but on a second thought, she changed her mind and received the gesture."Scarlett." She responded."Oh! I know yo
The following morning, Scarlett woke up and got ready for work again. She fixed her lenses and made sure the black dye on her hair wasn't fading out in any part. The last thing she wanted was making people look at her with irritating eyes, like people from her pack did.Done, she exited the house, a lot earlier than the previous day. She intentionally finished early becuase she planned on visiting someone, or somewhere. She took a cab and soon arrived at the witch's store which was by the side of the road. She's visited a lot of stores for this same reason, but some weeks ago, she heard news that this particular witch was very experienced. She got off the cab and proceeded into the store. An intoxicating blend of herbs, flowers and so many potions engulfed the air and filtered into her nostrils the moment she crossed the threshold. She could never get used to this smell. It was a small store. Looking around, she found potions upon potions, so many herbs and leaves mounted on each othe
Scarlett's breath froze in an instant. She wanted to look away, but something trapped her eyes to him, making it impossible for her to look away.He was shirtless and soaked, droplets glistening on his skin like tiny diamonds. His chiseled abs were exposed, each contour emphasized by the water clinging to his body. The water droplets glistened on his sleek hair, giving it a polished sheen. Scarlett's lips subtly parted, her heart skipped like a stone on water. He looked just like a greek god!"My King!" She finally pulled herself together and lowered her head, trying to steady her heart that threatened to explode in her chest. She couldn't get the image out of her head.Staring at him for a few seconds messed with her head completely. She tugged at her lower lip with her teeth.Kellan had just finished from the pool and decided to come into his study for a quick review. The study was his personal place, and he didn't expect too find anyone there. Imagine his surprise seeing his new as
Scarlett was so excited the rest of the day. Her life was finally getting better, things were falling in place for her.So many goodnews in one day. Not only did she become the King's personal guard and assistant, she also got a rise in her pay and will be accompanying him on a mission to the south! She'll be travelling with the king! She giggled and tossed from side to side on the bed. She couldn't recall when last she was this happy. At last, the moon goddess was answering her prayers. It was evening when her phone started ringing beside her. Checking the caller, she discovered it was her Aria.Thank goodness! She needed someone to share the news with."Hey!" Aria beamed as soon as she picked the call. "What're you doing? I didn't see you today at the field.""I'm fine, Aria." Scarlett chuckled. "I actually have great news.""Great news? Bring it on!"Scarlett smiled and sat up on the bed, like she could see her."A lot of goodies happened today, you know? First, I was chosen as the
Kellan had a busy day, attending to some issues of the pack. By the time he was done, it was evening already and he retired to his room for some rest. However, his wolf was restless and wouldn't let him think straight. As Kellan sat down in his room to eat, the persistent wolf hardly let him concentrate."We need to find her. You've been too non-challant." Ragnor grumbled."I have bene trying. Rick and the others have been searching for her. What am I supposed to do?" Kellan answered tiredly, sharing his thoughts."You shouldn't rely solely on others to find our mates. You should be making an effort as well. We need to find her sooner."Kellan sighed and wagged his head, gulping some wine afterward."I never asked her to leave." He mumbled, a small frown finding its way to his face. "Perhaps, she's not even interested in me. If she was, she'd have never left that morning.""I'm sure she had her reasons." Ragnor growled. "Whatever it was, we can't completely blame her, at least, until
He held her down to the ground while she waited for him to do something to her. She had stopped moving. She had no chance. Surprisingly he just sniffed her.‘’What is going on?’’. Scarlett muttered within her, not really knowing what was happening at the moment. She growled in anger as the giant wolf was still sniffing her neck. She thought he was going to hurt her, but she had no choice but to remain there as the wolf didn’t let her go.She tried escaping his grip.‘’Let me go!’’ She growled once again, as she put in more force.‘’Stay’’. Ragnor growled back at her.He was too strong for her. Ragnor held her down to the ground so strong that he made sure she was not able to run away.Immediately, Alexa gave up on trying and let out a few soft howls in defeat.Once Ragnor saw that she had given up, he immediately stopped sniffing her neck and released her. He remained there looking at her, totally losing his guard. Alexa saw this great opportunity right away and used it to quickly kno
Scarlett drew a deep breath as she walked along the hallway of the Pack house, pulling her luggage along with her.It was time for the trip, and the King was already outside with the others.Scarlett had a cranky feeling that something bad might happen at the meeting. It was the biggest meeting of the year, and since every Alpha would be present, she just felt there might be some kind of problem. She was approaching the staircase when she ran into the prince and instantly stopped to greet him as he stood right in front of her, his scent surrounding the place which they both stood.‘’Good day, my prince’’. Scarlett bowed her head in respect, waiting for him to speak up so she could raise her head up back and start leaving.‘’Hello, Scarlett. Good day to you too’’. His deep voice spoke to her. After taking a short pause, she looked up at him, staying utterly shut.‘’I need to get going. I don’t want to keep them all waiting for me’’. She said quietly and respectfully. The last thing she
It was the next day and time for the meeting. Scarlett, who had woken up a long time ago, was all dressed up and ready. She had prepared faster than every other person and decided to go check up on the king to be certain he didn't need any assistance. She knocked, and his voice ushered her in. Going in, she met him eating. She bowed her head to greet him, after shutting the door when she had entered.‘’Good morning, My King’’. She said with her head bowed. He didn't respond. She lifted her head to see him dipping a fork full of Alfredo pasta into his mouth. Chewing it elegantly, he dropped the cutlery back on the plate, dabbing the napkin against his nice succulent lips.He had a robe on, but Scarlett could see he was wearing something like a polo inside too. He wasn’t completely naked like she thought he would be when she got in.Just like yesterday inside the car, the atmosphere was tense as hell. He still wasn't looking up to her face.‘’Is there a problem? I didn’t send for you’’
Scarlett was shocked beyond words. Of course she knew she would be getting into a bigger trouble with the king but she never expected him to fire her it was shocking and the way he had said it, he sounded like he meant every single word. She starred at the door on able to move. She was glued to the spot, and could not command her feet into motion. When she finally was able to move, the door opened again, and kellan came back out."What are you still doing here? I thought I told you that you were fired with immediate effect."Go now, packup your things, because you are leaving first thing in the morning. Did you understand me?"Scarlet nodded, trying her best to stop the tears that had gathered in her eyes from falling off her eyelids." I will get going immediately. Once again, forgive me my King. I know I was wrong, I know I've disrespected you in many ways, I have not kept a single of the instruction that you gave to me."please forgive me. I will go get my things, and I will leave
Negan led Scarlett into the car, and gave her one of the drinks he'd kept for future use."Stay here while I do something about the body." He spoke softly to her, smoothening her hair with his palm."What... what are you going to do to the body?" Scarlett asked."Don't worry about it. Just wait for me here." Negan said to her, and left in a hurry.Scarlett breathed in heavily, and stared down at her hands. The blood in her fingers had dried up, but she could still smell it, and it gave her the creeps."How did this happen to me? What did i become? How could I have killed a man like that?" Scarlett couldn't stop questioning herself. She felt bad. Terrible. Few minutes later, after sitting alone, she drifted into an uneasy sleep. *******************Kellan came out of the restroom, looking restless. His hair and face dripped of water, making it obvious he'd gone to wash up.He sat down on his bed, took one of the napkins in the drawer, and wiped his face with it.After that, he reache
They ran out of the bus into the dark lonely night as though their body was on fire. The boys ran for dear lives like hell and crazy, and as they did,Scarlet did not stop even after they got out of the bus.She caught up with one of the boys, snatched him off the ground with her claws growing out of each fingers.Scarlett was totally crazy; she'd turned into a beast, unaware of what she was doing."Please, don't kill me! Let go of me!!" Ray cried, grasping the air with his arms as he tried getting away. The other boys scurried off, yelling and cursing as they did.Scarlett turned a deaf rat to Ray's cries. She plunged her claws deep into the skin around his eyes, scratching him until she came in contact with his naked cheekbones.Blood spurted, splashing all over the floor, and over Scarlett's body. Breathing like a ferocious beast, she hovered over Ray, and gripped him tightly by the neck.He struggled against her, tried fighting her off, but soon realized she was no match for her.
Negan slowly placed the bottles back on the dresser, and moved few inches away from it.He placed his hands on his hips, looking awestruck. Glimmer's words crossed his mind, and the thought only paralyzed his leg.He sat on the bed, and buried his head between his palms."No. There's no way..." He paused and sighed. "If she's using hair dyes, does that mean she's...not on her real colour?" Negan questioned himself. There were too many coincidences that needed to be questioned. First, she had the same name has Glimmer's sister, she has fit in perfectly with Glimmer's description of his sister, and how, he had just found out she made use of dies."I've got to find out what's going on. I need to know if Scarlett is the woman in the prophecy." He muttered with a determined look on his face. He picked up the bottles of she, and put them in the drawer before leaving the room. ******************Scarlett got to the royal market, and was alarmed at the outrageous prize of things. She was ho
"Scarlett? Are you there? Scarlett?" Negan's voice sounded in her ear, waking her up from her trace."Huh...yes, Negan?""Did you hear me?"Scarlett's fingers trembled as she took in a deep breath. Did the prince find out about her strange embarrassing colour?"N...no. why did you ask me that?" She stuttered, her heart beating fast against her chest."Nope. Nothing. I just wanted to know." Negan replied."Okay, okay. I see. But... okay. It's fine." Scarlett replied, deciding it was best she didn't talk more on it."I will see you later then?" Negan asked."Yeah, of course..." Scarlett heard the door opening from behind, and quickly said her goodbyes to Negan before cutting the line."Why did you cut your call?" Kellan asked, coming towards the bed."I just finished my conversation. That was why I cut the call, my king.""It was Negan, wasn't it?"Scarlett paused for a while before nodding. "Yes, it was.""He would never learn how to stop calling you when you're working." Kellan mutte
"Scar?" Negan asked, glaring at Glimmer. He looked away, his face a mask of concentration. "Why does that sound familiar?""Familiar?" Glimmer asked, peering into his face. "Do you know anyone by that name?"Negan placed his hands under his chin, and slowly shook his head. "No. Not Scar. But Scarlett.""That's my sister's name. Scarlett." Glimmer replied.Negan gawked at Glimmer, looking lost. "Scarlett?" He asked after a long while of silence.Glimmer nodded with a little frown on his face. He couldn't understand why Negan looked so fixated on him."Do you know anyone by that name?" He asked."I do. The lady I know by that name is the King's personal guard and assistant, but then, there are many other Scarletts all over the world."Glimmer nodded, losing any hope he could have had. "Yes, master. That's true.""Can you... describe your sister for me?" Negan asked, capturing Scarlett in his foresight.Glimmer smiled with a faraway look in his eyes. "Oh, master." He chuckled as he pause
Scarlett walked straight into Kellan's room with both her eyes closed, and her head, slightly sucked.Amazed, Kellan moved to a side, allowing her access into the room. He watched as she walked in, and walked straight to the front of the sofabed, and slept on the floor in front of it."My goodness. Does...she sleepwalk?" He asked himself, almost laughing. He couldn't remember the last time he was amused."She sleepwalks. It's obvious." Ragnor laughed from within.Ignoring his wolf's voice, he walked stealthily towards Scarlett who was now on the floor, sleeping with all comfort."I can't believe this. She's strong, and yet, fragile." He observed."Are you gonna pick her up? I get excited whenever you touch her! I get all dizzy-wizzy!" Ragnor laughed, and got ignored again.Kellan moved more close, and crouched down on one knee. He scooped Scarlett up in his arm, and carried her to the bed.Gently, he laid her there, and covered her up with the duvet, then relaxed back at the other sid
Scarlett's words felt like a sharp slap in the face. Kellan stared at her for as long as she could remember, making her more uncomfortable than she already was."You're dating?" Kellan asked when he finally found his voice. He did his best not to sound too shocked.Scarlett nodded. "Yes, my king. I'm...sorry I didn't tell you earlier."Kellan looked away from her, and snorted. He couldn't help it. "I see you decided to ignore my warning after all." He got up from where he sat, and turned his back on her.Scarlett closed her eyes. She felt terribly bad, because she knew she'd just lied to the king."I... accepted the prince's proposal, because ever since I got here, he's been so nice to me. I didn't see any reasons why I should...heed your warning, my king.""Yes. Sure, of course. Anyways, it's actually none of my business. You might be my personal assistant, but there's nothing between us asides from that. You have every right to do whatever you want with your life without any explana
Negan stared back at Scarlett waiting desperately for her to say something."What? Aren't you gonna say something? This isn't the first time I'm telling you that I want you to be mine.""I... didn't think you were this serious. I didn't know you would be this jealous over me?" Scarlett gasped.Negan moved closer to her, glaring deep into her eyes. "I'm not only jealous, Scarlett. I'm mad at Kellan for taking you out so late in the night.""Don't address the king like that, my prince." Scarlett whispered, turning to glance back."Well, isn't that his real name? I called him that while we were growing up." Negan retorted."It's hard to imagine that you actually grew up the king. You two are so different from each other.""We didn't just spend our childhood days together, I was always snuggling up to him."Scarlett's jaw dropped. "What? I can't imagine you doing that!" She couldn't help but laugh."Yes. That and much more. I was always crying after him. One day, he left home without even
