Rylan turned to Aria, his jaw tight. “Are you okay?”

Aria nodded, though her hands trembled slightly as she tried to process the encounter. “Yeah.”

Rylan said with a sigh, running a hand through his hair. “Don’t pay attention to anything she said. She thrives on causing pain.”

Aria hesitated, her eyes searching his. “Is what she said true?”

Rylan’s expression softened, and he reached out to take her hand. “No,” he said firmly. “You’re not a project, Aria. You’re...” He trailed off, struggling to find the right words.

“You’re important to me. And nothing she says changes that.”

Her heart ached at the sincerity in his voice, and she found herself nodding, allowing him to guide her back to the racks.

But even as she smiled and picked out more clothes, Celeste’s words lingered in the back of her mind, planting seeds of doubt she couldn’t quite shake.

Aria stepped out of the dressing room once again, adjusting the soft fabric of the flowing dress.

Rylan watched as Aria sat by the large window in the packhouse’s common room, her figure bathed in the warm afternoon sunlight. She was cradling a steaming mug of herbal tea he had prepared for her earlier, her delicate fingers curled around the cup as if drawing strength from its warmth.Despite the serene setting, there was a quiet melancholy in her eyes, a gaze that seemed to drift far beyond the picturesque view of the pack’s expansive gardens. He didn’t interrupt her thoughts, choosing instead to observe her silently from the doorway. For the past few months, Aria had been his sole focus. He had prioritized her well being above everything, ensuring she was comfortable, protected, and cared for.Her memory loss and delicate condition made her vulnerable in ways he wasn’t accustomed to handling, but Rylan was nothing if not relentless in his duty.Duty. That was how he had framed it in his mind at first. But now, as he watched her lost in thought, something inside him stirred. It w

The morning sun had barely risen when news began to ripple across territories like wildfire. It started with hushed whispers, exchanged between traveling merchants and pack scouts.By mid morning, those whispers had grown into louder murmurs, spreading from one pack to another, carried on the wind of speculation and rumor.“Alpha King Kane is sick,” they said, voices tinged with a mix of disbelief and morbid curiosity.Others claimed with more certainty, “The mighty Alpha King is bedridden, his once powerful pack now teetering on the brink of collapse.”And the most dramatic among them insisted, “He’s already dead. The throne of the Alpha King lies vacant.”In the corners of taverns and around campfires, the stories evolved with every retelling. Some swore that Kane’s illness was the result of a curse, a punishment for some unknown crime.Others theorized that his grief over the loss of his mate, Layla, had consumed him entirely, leaving him a mere shell of the man he once was.“The M

As whispers of Alpha King Kane’s decline spread across the territories, the Alpha Council, the governing body of the most powerful packs in the world, called for an unprecedented online conference. It was a momentous event, one that signified the urgency of the situation.Never before had alphas from across the globe gathered in this way, united by a shared concern for the leadership of the werewolf kind. The video screens flickered to life in the council’s virtual meeting room, each frame showcasing a different alpha.Their faces were stern, their expressions a mixture of concern, calculation, and opportunity. The meeting was hosted by Elder Fenrir, a revered figure in the werewolf world known for his impartiality and wisdom. His gray hair and weathered features gave him an aura of authority that silenced the murmurs as he began to speak.“Alphas,” Fenrir said, his deep voice resonating through the virtual space, “we gather here today to address a matter of utmost importance. News of the Alpha King’s declining state and the upcoming election reached the far corners of the werewolf world, including Alpha Rylan’s pack. The murmurs of a potential change in leadership sparked intense discussions among his warriors and elders. While some dismissed the idea as a distant matter, others saw it as a pivotal moment for their kind, and for their Alpha.Alpha Rylan was in his office, surrounded by his most trusted advisors. The room was bathed in the golden light of the setting sun, but the atmosphere was anything but warm. The council had gathered to discuss the situation, and tensions were running high.“Alpha,” began Elder Corwin, his voice grave, “this is an opportunity we cannot ignore. With Kane incapacitated and the werewolf kingdom in disarray, the world needs a strong leader. You could be that leader.”Rylan leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable. “And you think I should vie for the position of Alpha King?”“It’s not just about you,” Corwin repli

The morning sun bathed Rylan’s estate in warm light, but inside the grand hall, the atmosphere was subdued.Aria sat at the breakfast table, watching as Rylan prepared to leave. She hadn’t seen him like this before, his usually calm demeanor was now tinged with a quiet intensity.“Are you sure you don’t need me to come with you?” she asked, her voice hesitant. She was used to his protective nature and found it strange to see him walking into such a significant event without his usual guards or her by his side.Rylan paused in the doorway, adjusting the cuff of his tailored jacket. His expression softened as he turned to her. “Aria, this isn’t just a pack meeting. It’s a gathering of Alphas, and tensions will be high. I don’t want you exposed to that kind of hostility. Besides…” He walked over and placed a hand gently on her shoulder. “You’ve been through so much. I need you here, safe.”Aria nodded, though a small part of her wished she could be there to support him. “You’ve done so m

With Rylan away in the city, the air around the estate grew colder, though not in temperature.Aria felt it immediately. The subtle glances she had grown used to were no longer so discreet.Whispers echoed louder in the corridors, and the warmth of the staff's smiles had dimmed. It wasn’t everyone, most of the pack respected Rylan’s decisions, even if they didn’t fully understand his attachment to her. But a small group, those who had always been wary of outsiders, saw Rylan’s absence as an opportunity to voice their disdain.Aria was in the gardens, pruning the roses that Rylan had said reminded him of her.She found peace there, her hands working the delicate blooms as her thoughts wandered. Suddenly, a sharp voice broke her reverie.“Well, well, if it isn’t the Alpha’s little pet,” sneered a tall woman with dark auburn hair, her tone dripping with mockery.Aria recognized her as Mirabel, one of the estate’s senior pack members.Mirabel was known for her sharp tongue and her even sh

The next morning, Mirabel leaned against the oak table in her private quarters, a sly smile playing on her lips.Around her stood her closest allies, pack members who shared her disdain for Aria. They spoke in hushed tones, their eyes gleaming with malice as they devised their next move.“She’s too comfortable,” Mirabel said, her voice dripping with contempt. “Parading around here like she belongs, like she’s one of us. It’s time she understood her place.”One of her minions, a wiry man named Ezra, chuckled. “What do you have in mind?”Mirabel’s smile widened. “We send her on an errand. Deep into the forest. Somewhere far enough that she’ll get lost, maybe even into rogue territory.”“But if she comes back…” another minion, a petite woman named Talia, began hesitantly.“She won’t,” Mirabel interrupted. “And if she does, well, she’ll learn her lesson. Either way, she’s out of our hair. The next day, Mirabel approached Aria in the garden, her demeanor unusually pleasant. It was enough t

The first drops of rain caught Aria by surprise, cool splashes against her flushed skin. She paused, glancing up through the thick canopy of trees. The darkening clouds overhead churned ominously, the forest growing even dimmer as the storm gathered strength. The gentle patter of rain quickly turned into a downpour, soaking through her thin clothes in minutes. The chill of the water sent a shiver down her spine as her teeth began to chatter.Hugging herself for warmth, Aria stumbled forward, her shoes squelching in the mud with each step. Her visibility was rapidly diminishing. The rain blurred her surroundings, making it impossible to tell one tree from another.Every direction looked the same, a shadowy maze of trunks and leaves. The path she had been trying to retrace had vanished, swallowed by the rushing water pooling in the forest floor.Aria’s heart pounded as she searched for shelter, her breath fogging in the damp air.The storm showed no signs of letting up. Thunder rumbled

“You remember,” Rylan said, his voice low but steady, addressing Aria directly. She nodded, her hand instinctively tightening on Kane’s shoulder. “I remember everything,” she said softly. “About Aiden. About Kane. About... about all of it.”Rylan’s jaw tightened imperceptibly, but he nodded. “And what does that mean for us? For Ace?”Her heart clenched at the mention of Ace. “It doesn’t change that he’s our son,” she said, her voice firm but gentle. “Rylan, you’ve been an incredible father to him. That doesn’t change because of who Kane is.”Kane stiffened slightly, his grip on Aria’s waist loosening. He glanced at her, his brow furrowing. “What are you saying, Aria?” he asked, his tone laced with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. She took a deep breath, stepping back from both men to create some space. “I need time,” she said, her voice steady but tinged with vulnerability. “I’ve just regained a part of myself I thought I’d lost forever. Aria made her way back to the pack’s territory. Her steps were unsteady, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. The memories were sharp and vivid, each one striking her like a lightning bolt. Every moment she had lived as Layla now coalesced with her present life as Aria, forming a mosaic of pain, betrayal, love, and resilience. She clutched her arms around herself, her breath hitching with each step. The towering gates of the pack’s territory came into view, and she quickened her pace. Every instinct urged her forward, every fiber of her being telling her that she needed to be here, now.As she approached the gates, she spotted a familiar figure. Kane stood by his car, one hand gripping the door, the other running through his dark hair. His powerful frame was tense, his golden eyes scanning the horizon as if he were waiting for something, or someone.Aria froze for a moment, her heart hammering in her chest. The sight of him brought a rush of emotions, the man who had once been her mate,

Aria rose from the fallen log, her body still tense from the emotional confrontation she had endured. The moonlight filtered through the trees, casting silvery patterns on the forest floor. As she turned to leave the clearing, her foot caught on a piece of uneven wood hidden beneath the underbrush. She stumbled forward, landing on her hands and knees with a sharp gasp. The impact jarred her, but it was the sudden rush of images flooding her mind that stole her breath away. She was 18 again, walking through the town pack when she encountered Aiden, the then Alpha in the grand town hall. Her heart pounded with anticipation as she approached Aiden, the one who had made her feel the mate bond.He was her mate, she could feel it in her bones. Tonight, on her birthday, he would claim her, and their future together would begin. But his eyes, once warm and inviting, were cold.“I can’t,” he said, his voice low but firm. “I don’t want you, Layla.”Her heart shattered. “What do you mean?” she w

The forest, once alive with danger had settled into an uneasy stillness. Celeste and Amelia, subdued, were escorted back to Rylan’s territory by his warriors. The Alphas, Kane and Rylan, stood a short distance apart, their gazes locked in a silent battle of wills.Aria sat on a fallen log, holding Ace close. The boy clung to her, his face buried in her neck as she stroked his hair soothingly. Her heart still raced from the events of the day, but the warmth of her son’s embrace grounded her.Kane approached cautiously, his usually commanding presence softened by concern. “Aria,” he said, his voice low and measured. She looked up, meeting his gaze.“Thank you for finding Ace,” she said, her tone polite but distant.Kane knelt in front of her, his eyes searching hers. “You don’t have to thank me. I’d do anything for you and Ace, you know that.”Rylan’s voice cut through the moment like a blade. “And yet you put them in danger with Amelia.”Kane stood, turning to face Rylan. “Don’t preten

Even though Ace had been found and safely returned, Aria could not shake the feeling of unease clawing at her heart.Something about the entire ordeal felt unresolved, as if a larger danger still loomed. While Rylan and Kane coordinated with their packs, Aria quietly slipped away, her instincts pulling her deeper into the forest. The forest was eerily silent, the faint rustle of leaves the only sound accompanying her hurried steps. Her thoughts swirled with fear and anger, not just at Celeste and Amelia for their cruelty, but at herself for not being able to protect her son.She clenched her fists, frustration boiling within her.As she pushed forward, fragments of a memory flickered in her mind: a clearing bathed in moonlight, the scent of lilies, a soft voice calling her name, Layla.“Who am I?” she whispered, her voice trembling.Something within her stirred, an ancient strength she couldn’t yet name. She pushed on, determined to find the truth, no matter the cost.As Aria ventured

Kane crouched near a broken branch, his sharp eyes scanning the ground for any sign of Ace.His men moved silently behind him, their Alpha’s urgency driving them to cover ground faster than they thought possible. The scent trail was faint but persistent, leading deeper into the forest’s heart. As he rose to his feet, Liam, his loyal beta, approached from the west flank, his expression grave. “Alpha,” he began, his voice low, “we’ve intercepted something you need to see.”Kane didn’t hesitate, snatching the small, crumpled note Liam handed him.The words, hastily scrawled, made his blood run cold: "The child is the key to breaking her. Ensure Ace is removed, and Aria will crumble. Celeste and Amelia will handle the rest. Be ready to strike when the Luna falls."Kane’s jaw clenched, his grip on the note tightening as fury surged through him. “Celeste and Amelia,” he muttered under his breath, his voice dripping with venom.Liam stepped closer, his tone cautious. “Alpha, this confirms th

“Ace!” Aria shouted, her voice trembling as she ran through the pack's training yard, checking every possible hiding spot. The gnawing sense of dread deepened with every passing second. She stumbled back into the house, her eyes wild and chest heaving.“Rylan!” she called out desperately, finding him in his study.Rylan looked up from his papers, immediately recognizing the terror in her expression. He stood swiftly, crossing the room to her. “What’s wrong?”“Ace is gone! I can’t find him anywhere!” Her voice broke, tears streaming down her cheeks.Rylan’s face darkened, his jaw tightening. “When was the last time you saw him?”“This morning, we were at the town square..” Aria said between gasps. “I thought he was right beside me but when I turned, he was gone.”Rylan took a deep breath, his protective instincts roaring to life. “I’ll handle it. Stay here, and I’ll organize a search party.”“No!” Aria cried, gripping his arm. “I can’t just sit here. I have to find him.”He cupped her

In Celeste’s lavish chamber, as she leaned over her ornate desk, across from her stood Miranda, her loyal confidant and the very maid who had been her eyes and ears in Rylan’s pack for years.Miranda’s expression was a mixture of curiosity and apprehension as Celeste explained the next phase of her plan.“Are you sure about this, my lady?” Miranda asked hesitantly. “The boy is young. Innocent.”Celeste’s face hardened, her voice cold and unyielding. “Do not mistake my kindness for weakness, Miranda. That boy is anything but innocent. He’s the key to Aria’s downfall and Kane’s distraction. Once the boy is gone, Aria will crumble, and with her grief will come her demise.”Miranda swallowed hard, but she knew better than to question Celeste further. She nodded obediently. “What would you have me do?”Celeste smirked, satisfaction gleaming in her eyes. “When Aria takes him out to the town square tomorrow, you’ll create a diversion.
