Rylan’s jaw tightened, his eyes darkening. “What do you mean she knows? Did she say something to you?”

Aria nodded, recounting the encounter in the town square.

As she spoke, her voice grew steadier, but the anger and fear in her words were unmistakable.

“She called me Layla,” Aria said, pacing the room. “She said she knows who Ace’s father is. She said it was only a matter of time before the truth comes out.”

Rylan’s fists clenched at his sides. “That woman has always been trouble. I should’ve known she wouldn’t stay out of our lives for good.”

“What do we do, Rylan?” Aria asked, her voice breaking. “She’s dangerous. If she spreads this, it won’t just be about me or Ace. It could tear everything apart.”

Rylan stepped forward, placing his hands on her shoulders. “We’ll handle this,” he said firmly. “Celeste has always been vindictive, but she won’t get the upper hand here. I won’t let her.”

“But how?” Aria pressed. “She already knows too much. If she tells anyone...”

“She won’t,” Ryla

The morning air was crisp and laced with tension as Rylan stormed into the meeting hall. His jaw was clenched, his steps heavy with purpose as he scanned the room.Celeste stood near the far end, her poise as immaculate as ever. She was dressed elegantly, her golden hair cascading down her back, a picture of composure that only served to stoke Rylan's frustration. She turned as he approached, a sly smile curling her lips. “Alpha Rylan,” she greeted, her tone mocking. “What brings you here so early? Couldn’t resist my charm, perhaps?”Rylan’s eyes narrowed, his voice low but firm. “Cut the games, Celeste. We need to talk.”Celeste arched a brow, feigning innocence. “Talk? Whatever about?”Rylan crossed his arms, his glare unyielding. “Don’t play coy. You know exactly what this is about. You know the truth about Aria… about Layla.”For a brief moment, a flicker of triumph passed through Celeste’s eyes before she masked it with feigned surprise. “Oh, that.” She smirked, leaning casually

The morning of my eighteenth birthday began like any other day in the Bourne Pack, with me running late for my shift at the pack café.As I sprinted past the training grounds, my worn sneakers kicking up dust, I couldn't help but smile.Today was supposed to be special, the day when most wolves discovered their mate bonds, but I had long since accepted my likely mateless fate as an omega."Layla!"A familiar voice called out, making me skid to a stop.James, our Head Beta's son, jogged over with that easy smile that had half the pack swooning."Happy birthday!""Thanks," I said, tucking a strand of dark hair behind my ear. "But I'm really late...""I know, I know. But here." He thrust a small wrapped package into my hands. "Open it later yeah?"I clutched the gift, warmth spreading through my chest.James had been nothing but kind to me since his mate died two years ago, and sometimes I caught myself wondering if..."Layla."The deep, commanding voice froze me in place.Every wolf in

The Bourne Pack hierarchy had always been crystal clear. Alphas at the top, followed by the Luna, then Betas, Warriors, Gammas, and finally, Omegas at the bottom. We each had our place, our roles, our invisible boundaries. It was a system that had worked for generations. But as I stood in the pack dining hall the morning after my rejection, that system felt like a noose around my neck."Omega!" Zara's sharp voice cut through the breakfast chatter. "My coffee's cold. Again."I bit back a sigh and headed to her table, where she held court with her inner circle, all daughters of high ranking pack members. The future Luna's perfectly manicured nails drummed against the table as she fixed me with a cold smile."You know, Layla," she said, loud enough for nearby tables to hear, "I've been thinking about pack positions lately. Particularly about omegas who can't perform their simple duties correctly."My hands trembled slightly as I picked up her cup.Through the lingering phantom of our s

The packhouse was bustling with activity, the usual evening chatter filling the hallways. For everyone else, this was just another day, another night in the life of the Bourne Pack. But for me, everything had changed.I forced myself to walk calmly, to ignore the gnawing ache in my chest as Aiden’s rejection replayed in my mind.He was my mate, and he had thrown me away as if I meant nothing. And now, I had to pretend like it never happened, to carry on as though my world hadn’t just been flipped upside down.I pushed open the door to the omega quarters, a small area tucked in the back of the packhouse where those of us with lesser ranks lived. It wasn’t much, barely large enough for the few of us who stayed here, but it was home. The familiar scent of lavender and worn wood greeted me as I stepped inside.“Layla!” Sarah, my closest friend, called out from across the room. She had been my anchor since we were kids, always there with a smile and a joke when life got hard. She waved me

The next morning, I woke to a strange mix of emotions, relief and dread battling inside me.Last night, I had made a choice, a decision that could give me the life I wanted. But in the quiet of the early morning, as the packhouse began to stir with life, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it wasn’t over.I lay in bed for a while, staring up at the ceiling, trying to push away the thought of Aiden. The mate bond was supposed to fade after a rejection, wasn’t it?So why did I still feel the pull, the constant hum of energy that tethered me to him?It wasn’t as strong as before, but it was there, a faint reminder of what I was trying to leave behind.A soft knock on my door snapped me out of my thoughts.“Layla? You awake?”It was Sarah. I sat up quickly and called for her to come in.She poked her head through the door, her blonde curls bouncing as usual. “I made coffee,” she said with a grin, holding up two mugs. “Figured you could use some after last night.”I smiled gratefully as she

The words hit me like a punch to the gut, and I stumbled back, the weight of his claim crashing down on me.“No,” I whispered, shaking my head. “I’m not yours anymore. I’m with James.”Aiden’s eyes darkened, his face twisting with a mix of anger and something else, something possessive.“James?” he sneered. “You think he can protect you? You think he can give you what I can’t?”I opened my mouth to respond, but before I could, Aiden grabbed my arm, pulling me against him.The bond flared again, stronger this time, and I felt the overwhelming pull of our connection, something primal and undeniable.“You will always be mine, Layla,” he whispered, his breath hot against my ear. “No matter what you do. No matter who you run to.”I struggled to pull away, but his grip was firm, his strength overpowering. And despite the fear coursing through me, I couldn’t deny the way my body reacted to him, the way the bond still tied us together.“Aiden, let me go,” I pleaded, my voice trembling.I wren

Later that night, as I lay in bed, sleep eluded me.The moonlight streamed through the curtains, casting shadows on the walls, and all I could think about was Aiden.I couldn’t understand why he still had this hold on me.He had Zara, a beautiful, powerful wolf who was destined to be the Luna. And I had James, who loved me with every fiber of his being. Yet the bond, even broken, still pulsed beneath my skin, like a heartbeat that wouldn’t fade.I slipped out of bed and moved to the window. The cool night air brushed against my skin as I stared out into the darkness, my thoughts churning. That’s when I felt it...A presence. My heart pounded in my chest as I turned, half expecting to see nothing. But there he was, standing in the shadows near the edge of the woods. Aiden. His eyes glowed in the darkness, fixed on me with an intensity that made my breath catch. Why was he here? Why couldn’t he just leave me alone?I didn’t move, didn’t dare breathe as we locked eyes, the air thick with

The town square bustled with life, vendors calling out their wares, children laughing as they chased each other, and the scent of freshly baked bread wafting through the air.Aria held Ace’s hand as they wandered from stall to stall, her son’s excitement infectious as he pointed out colorful trinkets and shiny objects that caught his eye.“Mommy, look!” Ace tugged at her hand, pulling her toward a stand filled with wooden toys. “Can I get the horse?”Aria smiled softly, ruffling his hair. “We’ll see, sweetheart. Let’s finish looking around first.”As they continued, Aria’s sense of ease was abruptly shattered. From across the square, she spotted a figure she hadn’t expected to see, Celeste.Rylan’s ex wife stood with an air of elegance, her striking features framed by auburn curls, but her sharp gaze locked onto Aria with a venomous intensity. Before Aria could react, Celeste was striding toward them, her heels clicking against the cobblestones.“Well, isn’t this a sight,” Celeste sai

The days that followed were a blur of meetings and responsibilities, but Kane’s mind was never far from the hidden truth. He carried on with the facade of normalcy, his commanding presence undiminished as he addressed his council and oversaw pack affairs. Yet, beneath the surface, the storm brewed. He began reviewing Zara’s last known movements, quietly questioning those who had been closest to her.The answers were sparse, the trail cold.It was as though someone had deliberately erased her from the narrative of life, leaving only fragments for him to piece together. At night, when the castle fell silent, Kane would retreat to his private chambers, poring over old records and memories. He found himself revisiting moments with Zara that he had long buried. And then there was Aria, or Layla. The woman who had turned his world upside down with a single glance.Kane’s decision to keep Zara’s identity a secret weighed heavily on him.He knew it was the right choice for the stability of th

By nightfall, Joshua returned with a modest stack of papers and a wary expression. He placed the file on Amelia’s desk, his posture stiff. “This is what I could gather so far. It’s not much, but it’s a start.”Amelia’s fingers skimmed over the papers, her eyes scanning the reports with practiced precision. There were old pack records, notes from Zara’s friends, and even a few speculative letters from distant contacts who claimed to have seen her.“She was seen in the Northern Territories,” Joshua began, pointing to one of the reports. “Shortly after leaving the pack. But the trail goes cold after that. No one seems to know where she went or why.”Amelia’s lips pursed as she read further. “And the Northern Territories just happen to be a haven for rogues and exiles. Convenient.”“There’s also this,” Joshua added, pulling a folded piece of parchment from his pocket. He placed it on the desk, his expression grim. “It’s a rumor I came across. I don’t know how credible it is, but it’s wort

The morning was quiet, the kind of stillness that often masked impending turmoil.Aria had retreated to the garden to clear her head, and Rylan was deep in thought in his study.Neither of them noticed the figure lurking nearby, carefully concealed in the shadow of the corridor.Miranda, a once trusted member of the pack’s household, had her ear pressed against the study door. Her heart raced as she pieced together the conversation taking place inside. Her loyalty had never been with Rylan, instead, it lay with Celeste, Rylan’s former Luna, whose presence still lingered like a ghost in certain corners of the pack’s lands. From what Miranda had overheard, the truth was far more explosive than she could have imagined.Ace wasn’t Rylan’s biological son. The boy belonged to Alpha King Kane, a revelation that could shatter alliances and fuel rivalries. And Aria, Rylan’s Luna, was none other than Kane’s long lost mate, Layla.Miranda’s mind raced.Every detail of the conversation replayed i

The morning sun streamed through the windows, its golden rays casting a warm glow across the room.Despite the serenity of the dawn, tension filled the air as Aria sat at the edge of their bed, her hands clasped tightly in her lap.Across from her, Rylan leaned against the window frame, his arms crossed and his gaze fixed on the horizon.Neither had spoken much since waking, the weight of the truth revealed the night before still fresh and heavy between them.Ace, blissfully unaware of the undercurrents brewing around him, was playing in the adjacent room. His joyful giggles echoed faintly through the walls, a stark contrast to the somber mood enveloping his parents.Aria finally broke the silence, her voice soft but tinged with uncertainty. “What do we do now, Rylan?” She looked up at him, her emerald eyes filled with worry. “This changes everything. Ace… he’s not just…” Her voice trailed off as she struggled to put her swirling thoughts into words.Rylan turned to face her, his feat

After the long hug that seemed to stitch together the fragments of the day, Rylan gently guided Aria back to their shared room.Ace had fallen asleep as soon as his little head touched the pillow, his small chest rising and falling in peaceful slumber.Rylan kissed Aria’s forehead, whispered a tender goodnight, and slipped into his own side of the bed.Soon, his rhythmic breathing filled the room, signaling that he had succumbed to exhaustion. But for Aria, sleep was elusive. She lay still, staring at the intricate designs on the ceiling, her thoughts whirling like leaves caught in a storm. It wasn’t just the tension of the day or Rylan’s somber mood since their return that kept her awake. No, it was the growing weight of confusion, of something just beyond her grasp, tickling the edges of her consciousness. The first tendrils of doubt had crept in months ago, the day she met Alpha King Kane for the first time. The image of him frozen in the street after Ace splashed him with ice crea
