Veronica's POV:
I walked back to the dining area and settled into my seat and resumed eating. The table was silent as though something had happened in my absence. I poked my food with a little appetite as I felt discomfort tug at my subconscious mind. The silence was threatening and I really hoped that someone would say something. Gratefully, someone spoke up.It was Chloe, the Queen's mother. She sat right opposite my direction at the dining table with an air of regal elegance. Despite her advanced age, she carried herself with the grace and poise of a much younger woman. Her short, silver hair was neatly styled and her makeup was impeccably applied, emphasizing her sharp cheekbones and piercing gray eyes. Her stern expression never wavered, as if she were constantly sizing up the people around her."So tell me, Tyler, is she a beta werewolf or is she just ordinary like her—" she began but was quickly interrupted by Tyler."Mom, she barely survived and was just discharged from the hospital today. She has no recollection of what happened to her or who she is. So please, let's not bring up stories from the past" Tyler eyed the older woman."Stories from the past? Whose past, mine or my dad's?" I thought to myself in confusion.I could feel the air become tense all of a sudden."Come on, Tyler, I'm just being curious" she smiled coyly. "She's a very beautiful girl with fragile features and I couldn't help but wonder if such a cute girl can shift into her wolf form" she added, placing her palm on my right arm.I felt goosebumps wash over my skin as her body made contact with mine. She turned to me and I could see the hint of a smile playing at the corners of her mouth, a sly and knowing expression that suggested she was always one step ahead of those around her.A servant walked into the dining hall and quickly whispered to Tyler. He nodded and immediately the servant left, turned to the guests seated at the table, and announced, "Great council members, the Nightshade pack have gathered and they await us in the garden. The time has come"Like a rehearsed choreography, everyone on the table dropped their cutleries in a crossed manner, stood up, and began heading to the door that led to the garden.I sat down in confusion. Everything was becoming overwhelming and I just needed an explanation. And just as if she could read my thoughts, Malia walked up to where I sat and placed her hands on my shoulder in a reassuring manner. The feel of her palm was soft and somehow it calmed me."Veronica" her voice rang melodiously "I know you feel a bit confused and out of place. The palace is a big place and royalty comes with a lot of responsibilities but don't worry, I'll be here to guide you in every step"."You'll adjust to the settings here with time, okay?" She smiled and for the first time, I noticed her green glassy eyes. They were beautiful."Come on, it's time to meet the pack members," she said, stretching forth her hand. I took her hand and stood up."What if they don't like me or they don't want me here?" I asked.Malia let out a soft laugh."You're the Princess and don't worry about the members of the pack. They all love you. In fact, they've heard so much about you and can't wait to see you" she said, taking my hands and we headed to the door. The palace garden was a wonderland of natural beauty, bursting with vibrant colors and enchanting scents. The lush green grass was impeccably manicured and extended for acres, inviting visitors to stroll leisurely along its verdant paths. Towering trees of various species and sizes, some ancient and gnarled, others newly planted, created a majestic canopy overhead, filtering the moonlight to create dappled patterns on the ground.Flowerbeds of every hue imaginable dotted the garden, from vivid reds and yellows to delicate pinks and purples. A riot of petals and blooms filled the air with a heady fragrance that tantalized the senses. Roses, lilies, daisies, and other blooms vied for attention, each more breathtaking than the last.In the center of the garden stood a magnificent fountain, its sparkling water dancing merrily in the moonlight. Carved from the finest marble and adorned with intricate details, the fountain was a work of art in its own right. Birds chirped and flitted about, adding their melodies to the symphony of nature. The gentle rustling of leaves and the distant sound of a waterfall completed the idyllic scene. The palace garden was a tranquil oasis, a masterpiece of natural beauty and I stood at a spot, I couldn't help but feel nervous. The pack members were seated in fours at the center of the garden. The kids and teenagers giggled loudly amidst conversation while the adults sat and conversed in low tones. The sight felt strangely familiar as if I'd been in a place like this before but as I tried to remember, all my mind drew was a blank slate."... It is my pleasure to introduce to the Nightshade pack, my daughter, Veronica" I heard Tyler's voice roar authoritatively. The announcement was followed by a round of deafening applause and cheering.Malia led me to the brightly lit stage. I could see the happy faces of the pack members. Who would believe that beneath these happy faces lies a wolf?As I stood on the stage, I couldn't shake off the familiar feeling. It felt like deja vu but I had no memories of whatever happened before.I genuflected and smiled at the crowd. Seeing the audience clap and cheer loudly slowly gave me a sense of belonging.Pointing to a particular group, Tyler said "These are the beta werewolves and Dr. Grooves is the leader of this rank" Dr. Grooves briefly bowed and flashed me a friendly smile which I reciprocated."These" Tyler said, pointing at another group "...are the omegas and gamma werewolves. The leaders of this rank are McCall and Argent respectively" the leaders of the omega and gamma rank bowed briefly, avoiding eye contact with me. With the way they dressed and behaved, it was obvious that they were the least in rank.Turning to face the guests seated beside the stage, Tyler smiled, "Veronica, meet the members of the Pack's council. Jordan, Karen, Ethan, and J'Cole, the Pack's warrior" he said, pointing at the four heavily built men sitting at the table."Meet Kate and Matilda, the female warriors in charge of training the pups", Tyler continued, pointing at the young ladies who sat at the table. Kate had a warm and welcoming smile but Matilda shot me a threatening look as though she had a grudge against me.I quickly averted my gaze to avoid her deadly glare."Finally, meet Chloe, the Queen's mother," Tyler said, pointing at the older woman who sat at the head of the table. I bowed slightly, avoiding eye contact with her. After what seemed like an eternity, the meeting with the pack ended. Beatrice escorted me to my room and immediately I got in, I slumped on the bed. I had barely survived the night and all I craved was just rest.I quickly took my bath and changed into the pink silky pajamas that Beatrice had laid out on the bed for me. I drew in a long, deep breath as I tucked myself under the cozy and warm duvet. As I closed my eyes to reminisce on the events of the day, I heard a faint noise like the rustling of leaves.Impulsively, I stood from the bed and walked to the window, the wooden floor creaking softly under my foot. The palace garden was tranquil save for the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves under the influence of the night wind. I scanned the wide expanse of the garden and found nothing of interest.Turning around to head back to the bed, I heard the noise again. It was as though someone was moving in the garden. Curiosity got the better part of me as I quickly walked to the door, and opened it quietly, careful not to make any sound that'll wake anyone up, and as soon as I was out of my room, I headed to the garden. As I walked around the garden, I noticed stone benches that were placed strategically throughout the garden, offering visitors a place to rest and soak in the beauty around them. As I sat and looked around, I noticed a shadowy figure move behind the perfectly trimmed hedges that was just a few feet away from where I sat.My heart began to thump loudly."I should have just stayed in my room," I thought to myself as the figure slowly made its way out of the hedges and began approaching me.I was scared and my hands began to tremble. The figure walked confidently and stood before me, tilting his head to the left and grinning widely. His piercing gaze washed over my skin. My heart began to race wildly. Not of dread this time, but of wild excitement. It's Him! The guy who made my heart flutter. He is standing right before me.Stark naked."Hi, I'm Lucas" he said stretching forth his hand and smiling, as if that was the most natural thing to do when caught naked.I'll like to know if you're enjoying the story or I should make it go at a faster pace. I'd love to hear from you 🥰
Lucas' POV:I couldn't believe it when my dad told me that he found his daughter. Like he has another child from another woman and the girl just reappeared from nowhere.Since my dad and I didn't have that father and son kinda relationship, I still felt betrayed. During the four months that the newly found daughter spent in the hospital, I never visited her. News of the king's missing daughter has spread all over the pack and slowly I began to feel threatened. What if she steals the throne from me?The thoughts of Veronica's return infuriated me and now my mom's advising me to be friendly to my 'sister'."Mom, does any of this even make sense to you?" I said, biting my lower lip nervously. "It doesn't make sense because how do you explain that Dad finds a girl on the seashore and claims she's his daughter just because she appeared in his dreams"I paced around my sparsely decorated round. "Lucas, I know how you feel but—" my mom started."You don't know how I feel, mom! You don't kno
Lucas' POV:As I felt the moon rise high into the sky, a familiar sensation started to stir within me. It's a feeling that's hard to describe, like an itch that needs to be scratched, a restlessness that demands release. I know what's coming, and there's nothing I can do to stop it.My body began to convulse, my bones cracking and snapping as they reshape themselves into a different form. It's an excruciating pain, one that I've grown used to over the years, but it never gets any easier. I grit my teeth and try to hold back the howl that's building in my throat. My muscles bulge, and fur sprouts all over my body. It's like wearing a suit made of needles, but I can't help but feel a sense of satisfaction as I feel the transformation complete. The wolf inside me is free, and I am now one with the night. My senses were heightened, and the world seemed to come alive around me. I can smell the nearby prey, feel the dampness of the grass beneath my paws, and hear the rustling of the leaves
Lucas' POV:I turned around and met the bewildered gaze of Beatrice. Her hands covered her eyes to avoid looking at my bare skin. I wasn't bothered because she's just an omega and if she wants to retain her status as a servant in the palace, then her best bet is to remain silent.I quickly glanced at Veronica. Her face was bowed, probably in shame or embarrassment. I began walking towards the palace doors and headed to my room, walking quietly to avoid waking anyone up. As I opened the door to my room, the wood creaking softly, I let out a sigh of relief.I felt exhausted after a long run and I needed to take a warm shower. I step into the bathroom and turn on the shower, I sink into the warm embrace of the bathwater, and my mind begins to wander. I close my eyes and let the steam envelop me, thinking back to the events of the day. And then, suddenly, my thoughts drift to Veronica.I remember the way she looked at me, her eyes full of a certain intensity that I couldn't quite put my fi
Lucas' POV:My heart raced even faster, and my hand trembled as I reached for the doorknob. My room was rarely lit up and a wild creature might be lurking in a dark corner of my room.I pushed the door open slowly, my eyes scanning the dark room for any sign of danger. That's when I saw her. Veronica, sitting on my bed, looking up at me with those big, beautiful brown eyes.My fear melted away instantly as I remembered how she had impulsively kissed me just a few hours ago. The memory of her soft lips on mine sent a shiver down my spine."Hey, Lucas," she said, her voice soft and sweet."Veronica," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. "What are you doing here?""I'm sorry for barging in like this, but I had to see you. I couldn't stop thinking about you after...well, you know", she said, her voice soft and husky.I felt my heart skip a beat as she stood up and walked towards me. I could smell the sweet scent of her perfume, and it made my head spin. Before I knew it, she was st
Veronica's POV:I still feel awkward since last night after I kissed Lucas. I didn't know what force propelled me to kiss him but I did and to make matters worse, Beatrice saw it all happen. She didn't utter a single word as she escorted me back to my room. The silence felt uncomfortable so I decided to ask her for directions to Lucas' room. She pointed at the room down the hallway and I thanked her and bade her goodnight, after shutting my door.Strangely, I've not seen Beatrice again since last night's event and I couldn't help but wonder if she's okay."Good morning, my princess. What brings you here" Matilda said, standing straight with a cold, deadly stare in her eyes. She didn't genuflect or bow as others did. I just don't get why she doesn't like me."I'll be helping you with the pups from today onwards" I replied, acting unfazed by her disrespect."Huh? You?" She scoffed, stifling a burst of mocking laughter, "You're not even a werewolf so how'd you teach the pups how to shift
Veronica's POV:The drive to the palace was excruciatingly silent and uncomfortable as everyone seemed to be lost in their own thoughts of what the creature actually was. We pulled up in front of the palace gate and the four-pack warriors alighted from the car."Goodnight and do take care of yourself, my princess," Karen said, bowing."Goodnight" I mumbled, forcing a fake smile as the four men walked away.Lucas hasn't spoken a word to me since we left the woods. I felt a tinge of sadness when he pulled up at the parking lot and quietly opened the door for me without uttering a single word. How do I explain that I'm beginning to develop feelings for this narcissistic and self-absorbed guy?As we walked towards the palace door silently, I couldn't help but wonder what was going on in his mind. His eyes were fixated on the door and his hands were stiff inside his side pockets. Lucas opened the door, announcing our safe arrival and instantly Malia flew to my side, touching every part of
Malia's POV:"Tyler, Why'd you consider making such a rash decision? There's a wild creature killing the members of our pack in the woods and all you can think about is giving power to Veronica?" I retorted sharply. I could see the color draining off his face as he stared at me in awe."And since when did you start calling me by my name?" He fired back provocatively."I'm sorry, my King" I replied softly, as I turned to meet his piercing gaze. "Let's get some sleep and discuss this tomorrow, alright?" I rubbed his arm tenderly, giving a soothing effect to his tense muscle."Aiit, Goodnight." He replied, kissing my temple and pulling me closer in his arms. His bare skin grazed over mine, leaving those familiar tingling sensations in the pit of my stomach. The only difference was that the sensation I felt now wasn't one of pleasure but one of fear.Everything was going just fine but now that Veronica resurfaced, I'm on the verge of losing everything that I'd built over the years. Elimin
Lucas POV:"Good morning mom. Morning grandma" I said as I made my way down the stairs. The two women froze in shock as though they just saw a ghost. My eyes darted from my mom to my grandma who was staring at me, guilt written all over their face.I threw my hands in the air in confusion, "mom, is everything alright?" I asked as I walked towards her and kissed her forehead. She shuddered at the touch of my lips on her skin."C'mon, what's wrong? You guys have been staring at me most awkwardly and it's making me cringe" I added, rubbing my skin and mimicking a cold shiver."Lucas did you—" my mom began but Chloe quickly interrupted, "Everything is fine my baby boy" Chloe snapped, eyeing my mom."I hope you had a good night's rest, my boy" she added, softly pinching my cheeks and smiling broadly. I knew something was wrong and they didn't want to let me in on it but who cares anyway. My mom and grandma are so close and share each other's secrets, leaving everyone in dark.As I walked u
As I stood there, my heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and trepidation, I noticed them – my foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks, and my long-lost brother, Henry, standing among the crowd. It had been years since I last saw them, and I never imagined I would reunite with them under these circumstances. But there they were, their faces etched with a blend of emotions, just like mine.As I reached them, my foster mother, Mrs. Brooks, was the first to react. Her eyes welled up with tears, and before I knew it, she was in my arms, hugging me tightly. "Veronica, my dear girl," she choked out, her voice trembling with emotion. "We never stopped thinking about you, never stopped loving you. We're so sorry for what happened."Tears welled up in my eyes too, but I quickly blinked them away. "I know, Mom," I whispered, using the title that had always felt right for her. "I understand. Life had its way of pulling us apart, but I'm here now, and that's what matters."My foster father, Mr
Veronica's POV:The palace corridor stretched before me, its grandeur a constant reminder of the responsibilities that now rested on my shoulders as the Luna of Nightshade pack. Yet, despite the regal surroundings, an uneasiness gnawed at my heart, a magnetic pull I could not ignore. The mate bond with Jason, my first mate and Alpha of Crescent pack, was too powerful to suppress any longer. With a deep breath, I made my decision. It was time to visit Crescent Pack and meet with Jason, to confront the feelings that had been tugging at my soul since the day of my coronation. As I stepped outside the palace, the cool breeze of the evening greeted me, carrying the scent of the forest and the promise of a new beginning. My entourage, including Draco, my ever-loyal companion, and a group of trusted guards, accompanied me on the journey. The path to Crescent pack was familiar, as it was the same route I had taken before, but this time, it felt different. Emotions surged within me like a torr
Veronica's POV: As Malia lay crumpled on the floor, her once formidable presence reduced to a broken figure, a solemn silence fell over the throne room. The weight of her actions hung heavy in the air, and the kingdom braced itself for the consequences that awaited her.My father, Tyler, the lycan king, stood tall and resolute, his voice ringing out with authority. "Malia," he declared, his tone laced with disappointment, "you have betrayed the trust of this kingdom and tarnished the honor of our bloodline. Your actions have brought pain and darkness upon this kingdom. For your crimes against the crown and its people, henceforth, you are stripped of your royal title and sentenced to the dungeons."Malia's once haughty demeanor had crumbled along with her monstrous form. She lay on the floor, broken and humbled by the events that had transpired. "Take her away," my father commanded. With his command, the guards swiftly moved forward, their grip firm as they encircled Malia and hoiste
Veronica's POV:The lycan king turned to Malia, his gaze piercing and stern. "Malia, you will have the opportunity to defend yourself, to address these accusations. But if they are proven true, there will be consequences.""Yes," I interjected, my voice steady but resolute. "I have proof, Father. I have gathered evidence, witnesses who can testify to the truth of my words."With a determined expression on my face, I turned to Melissa, my trusted lady-in-waiting, and beckoned her forward. With a graceful step forward, Melissa presented a small voice recorder in her hands, its sleek design gleaming under the palace's golden light. I held my breath, knowing that the contents of that recorder held the key to unraveling the web of deceit that had ensnared us for far too long.Turning to the lycan king, I spoke with unwavering resolve, my voice projecting strength and conviction. "Father, it is time to shed light on the darkest corners of our kingdom. Melissa has captured conversations, con
Veronica's POV:I could swear that Lucas was beyond shocked to see me standing before him. The look on his face resembled that of one who had seen a ghost just a few minutes ago."Vee… is… is that really you?" Lucas stammered as the expression on his face shifted from shock to a mixture of curiosity and disbelief. A victorious smile tugged at the corners of my lips as I drew near, and leaned in close to Lucas, my voice a mere whisper that only he could hear. "I've returned to reclaim the throne," I breathed, a touch of mischief dancing in my eyes. The words hung in the air, a challenge wrapped in intrigue. Lucas's expression flickered between astonishment and intrigue, the weight of the revelation sinking in. I could almost taste the anticipation that radiated off him, mingling with the lingering sparks of our past. But before our silent exchange could continue, the grand doors of the throne room swung open, revealing the imposing figure of Tyler, the lycan king, accompanied by Malia
Lucas' POV:I walked briskly through the corridors of the palace, my mind preoccupied with the matters discussed during the council meeting. The council meeting had just concluded, and I was making my way toward the solitude of my royal chambers when I heard my mother's voice calling out to me."Lucas, dear, we need to talk," she said, her tone both gentle and firm. I turned around, my brows furrowing in confusion, and walked back to where she stood."Of course. What is it, Mother?" I asked, curiosity tinged with a hint of confusion. There was a seriousness in her eyes that made me wonder what could be so important. She smiled warmly. "Let us talk in the privacy of the royal chambers. There's something we need to address."She motioned for me to follow her, and we made our way to the familiar doors of the royal chambers. As we entered, the air grew still, and the air of the room seemed to grow thick. I took a seat, my mother joining me, her expression composed yet filled with a sense
Veronica's POV:The room was filled with a bittersweet ambiance as I carefully folded and packed our belongings, preparing for our journey back to the palace. Draco stood by, watching quietly, his eyes betraying a tinge of sadness as he observed me gathering our things.I folded a few clothes and placed them neatly in the suitcase, my mind racing with memories of our time together in this cozy home. It had been a place of solace and love, where Draco and I had built a beautiful life for ourselves and Zoey.Draco's voice broke the silence, filled with a mix of longing and restraint. "Veronica, are you sure about this? Leaving everything behind?"I turned to face him, a bittersweet smile gracing my lips. "Draco, I've thought long and hard about this decision. It's not easy, but I can't ignore the call of my responsibilities any longer. The palace is where I belong and it's about time I go back and reclaim ownership of the throne."His gaze softened as he reached out, his hand brushing a
Veronica's POV:As the months passed, my determination to master and control my wolf form grew stronger. I spent countless hours in the secluded clearing behind our house, surrounded by the tranquility of nature, honing my abilities and exploring the depths of my newfound power. On this particular day, the sun bathed the clearing in a warm golden glow as I stood at the center, my focus solely on the task at hand. My body felt energized, ready to embrace the challenges that awaited me.I took a deep breath, the crisp scent of the forest filling my nostrils, and closed my eyes, allowing the sounds of nature to envelop me. With each inhale and exhale, I envisioned myself tapping into the primal energy that resided within, ready to be unleashed."Focus, Veronica. Trust in yourself," I whispered to myself, my voice carrying the determination that burned within me.I began with a series of stretching exercises, my limbs moving fluidly as I prepared my body for the intense training that lay
Veronica's POV:As the werewolf lunged toward Zoey and me, a surge of unfamiliar energy coursed through my veins. Time seemed to slow as I felt a profound connection to the primal instincts within me. My eyes, once filled with fear, now blazed with a fiery crimson hue. At that moment, I knew I had tapped into a power I had never before experienced. Before my very eyes, my human form began to shift and contort. With a deep breath, I closed my eyes, surrendering myself to the forces coursing through my body. I felt a peculiar sensation as if an invisible force was pulling and molding my very being. My heart pounded in my chest, matching the erratic rhythm of my breath.Suddenly, my bones began to shift and crack, contorting under the strain of an unknown power. Waves of agony coursed through me, mingling with a strange mix of fear and exhilaration. I tried to understand the inexplicable transformation that was overtaking me, but my thoughts were drowned out by the overwhelming intensity
