Aria’s POV
The street lights illuminated my way as I walked from our little cottage on the outskirts of town, into the town. At first, the few houses I passed still had their lights on but I was surrounded in eerie silence until I got farther away from our home. The streets were still lonely but I could hear the sounds of warm laughter coming from the houses close by and they reminded me of the home I used to have until five years ago, before things suddenly changed.
“We’ll find comfort soon, there’s still hope,” I heard the voice of my wolf, Hailey, in my head.
“Stop it, Hailey,” I snapped at her, and she whimpered softly but I ignored it. She always tried to comfort me like she couldn’t see the reality of things. “People like us can never find comfort and happiness. We’re an abomination, remember? And I’m sure we’ll be tossed out of this town if the people find out about me. It’s why papa made sure we live on the outskirts of town,” I reminded her before shutting her out of my head and glancing at the houses again.
The laughter and the shadows of the family having dinner cast on the window curtains by the moonlight reminded me of the life I once had before things turned sour.
I could still vividly recall all of the family vacations I took with my mom and dad as a kid, until he lost his job and things became really hard on us. We had to fend on my mom’s meager salary that she got from teaching in the pack school, and it barely covered our expenses because in our old pack, teachers and doctors were likened to be public servants who generously rendered their services to the masses, not to earn from them, but to help them.
My dad had been so frustrated that he’d taken to drinking when he couldn’t find another job. Countless times, my mom had tried encouraging him that things would be fine and he’d get back on his feet if he could just give up the alcohol and stay focused but her words always fell on deaf ears. It got so bad that our usually peaceful home lost its love, as I could hear my parents arguing and throwing insults at each other almost every night. But even then, I thought things could still get better. Not until the night of my twelfth birthday…
I’d been home alone all day after returning from school to meet an empty house. My mom was at her job, and my dad was out to drink with his friends as usual. I took a nap but then all of a sudden, the loud bang of my bedroom door against the wall pulled me out of my sleep and my eyes snapped open in time to see my dad storming into the room, fuming and seething as he approached me and grabbed the top I was wearing to yank me out of bed.
“Is this what you spend all of your time doing now? We pay for your expensive school fees only for you to return home and be useless to me?” he roared, sending a fearful shiver down my spine, as my sleepy haze quickly cleared, replaced by confusion.
Up until then, my father had never raised his voice at me or even laid a finger on me.
“D-dad…” I stuttered, gently reaching for his hand but he slammed me hard against the nearest wall, caging my slender body between the wall and his huge one. Hot pain seared through me, a scream of agony flying from my lips, as tears poured out my eyes.
“I think I’ll have to teach you a lesson, you little bitch. You think I don’t see what you do to people? I blame your mother for forcing me to let you be all these while. You’re an abomination and have always been an abomination. I should have treated you like what you are all along but I had pity on you because of her. Your time is up,” although his words were a drunken slur, they still sent fearful chills down my spine, as my confusion grew more, while I wondered what he was talking about.
How could he say I was an abomination? What was he talking about? Were they hiding anything from me?
I was still lost in these thoughts when I felt his free hand creeping up my thighs to my core and I suddenly gasped in shock, a wave of nausea hitting me as I tried to grab his hand to keep it still but he was fast enough to cage my wrists in his hold.
“Dad! What are you…” Before I could complete my words, he slapped me hard across the face, causing my lip to split and my head to hit the wall. A dull ache began to form at the side of my head from the impact of being slammed against the wall.
“I’m doing what I should have done a long time ago, to sanitize you and keep you from infecting all. You think I don’t see how the male teachers in your school leer at you from how you’ve possessed them with the dirty spirit you emanate?”
“D-dad…” I cried out, struggling against his hold because I was sure he was only intoxicated by the excess liquor he must have consumed. “Dad, you’re hurting me,”
“And you deserve to be hurt and punished in every way necessary,” he reached for the fabric of my panties and yanked them hard, tearing them and tossing the material to the ground. I was still struggling into his hold and pleading for his mercy, trying to calm him when I heard the sound of his zipper and the next thing I felt was the intense pain that shot through me from the forceful penetration at my core, making an ear-piercing scream of anguish to expel from my lips, followed by another scream from my mom who suddenly appeared at the door.
She ran to us and tore him away from me, slapping him hard across his face, while I fell to the ground, curled in a ball, still crying from the unexpected assault and harassment I’d just been made to face by my own father.
“How could you, you devil?” My mom screamed and tried slapping him again but the next thing I heard was a scream of pain and she fell to the ground but he pounced on her, wrapping his arms around her neck to strangle her. She coughed, choking from his actions but it seemed at that moment he was blind to the reality that he was slowly draining the life out of her. I rose to my feet and tried walking towards him, in hopes of savaging the situation but I fell on the ground again, unable to move as a result of the pain in my core.
“Dad…” I called weakly when I saw her body writhing underneath his, powerless to his attack…
I must have been so lost in my trance because suddenly, I crashed into a hard surface and stumbled back, about to fall but strong arms held my shoulders to steady me.
“Watch where you’re going,” the deep male voice said with a hint of annoyance. I blinked and glanced up to see him looming over me, his dark brooding eyes glaring at me. He had a scar that cut across his left eye and coupled with the deep scowl directed at me, my heart raced with fear.
He was dressed as one of the pack’s sentinel which meant I shouldn’t be scared of him but my dad has brought me up to be scared of all men. I swallowed and pulled out of his hold, stepping back, and glancing around to see more than a few houses with their lights still on around.
“It’s too late for you to be out in the lonely streets, girl,” he spoke again, and I stared at him, looking him up and inwardly wondering what he was also doing outside of the pack house.
All sentinels were appointed as guards to work in the pack house, seeing to the safety of all members of the Alpha’s family. The BlackMane pack didn’t need guards because the town was safe, and far away from the human world to be attacked by hunters.
I was still speechlessly staring at him, with a defiant expression etched on my face when another man, also dressed like a sentinel approached us with a frightful expression etched on his face.
“Another man has been taken,” he blurted out and the man who had been staring at me whipped his head in the direction of his colleague, his frown deepening.
“How? When?”
“I have no idea but it seemed to have happened not too long ago. His car was left at the scene with the engine still running,”
I saw his facial features harden, and he glared at me again.
“Go home.”
I watched him pull the other man in the direction he’d emerge from, leaving me there in the lonely street all by myself. I glanced around and turned on my heels, running towards the direction of our house while trying to make sense of all I’d heard about the missing man, and what the sentinel had said about the town not being safe.
Were we under some form of attack?
The thought made my heart drop. My dad and I had just recently moved into the BlackMane pack. If there was trouble, it meant we had to quickly relocate to the West, as we couldn’t head back to the East where we’d run from.
After he accidentally killed my mom, we had to run away to avoid suspicion.
I got home and peeped in to see he was fast asleep in the living room with a bottle of liquor beside him. I knew better than to try to help him to bed. Hence, I sneaked in through the back door and got into my room, locking my door from behind. The last thing I wanted was to wake up from sleep to face his fury for sleeping in or not preparing his breakfast on time. And again, I had school the next morning and couldn’t afford to take any beatings before class.
Shane’s POV“The library also needs some renovation in the form of an expansion,” Principal Barnett suggested as we stepped out of the school’s sports center.“Besides the new sports facilities we need to install and the library you’ve just mentioned, is there anything else?” I questioned as we crossed the vast property towards the library.“The other is just a minor issue. The fence at the back is broken,”“Were students responsible for the damage?”“Yes, Alpha Shane but I assure you, we’ve dealt with the hoodlums that caused the damage. It’s why I said it was a minor issue as the school has decided to fine them with the expenses of the repair,”“It's fine, Mr. Barnette. I’ll see to its repair,”“Thank you, Alpha Shane. We appreciate your continuous support to Westwood High, and the teachers and I will continue to put in effort to produce the best student this town has to offer,”I nodded curtly to his words as we approached the Library. Westwood High was the same high school I’d gr
Shane’s POVI left principal Barnett’s office with purposeful strides, heading towards my car in the parking lot.It was against the school rules to give off a student's private information but as the Alpha of BlackMane, I was an exception to that rule. The principal had found her file and given me all of the information I needed, from her name to her age and even down to her home address. The urge to find her at her home was strong but I ignored it, knowing she may escape again.I had no idea why she had looked at me in fear and shock before escaping. It wasn't the usual reaction I got from other women or even the female students. They were always openly ogling me and the few that were opportune to be in my presence did their best to get noticed but with her, it was different. She’d looked at me as though she regretted seeing me.The thoughts made me frown deeply and they made Axel growl in annoyance but I pushed them down, choosing to believe that I must have startled her from my ap
Aria’s POVI peeped from the back of the tree where I’d been hiding but I couldn’t see anyone. I didn’t hear any sounds except that of birds chirping and the current of the lake ahead. I released a deep breath as I limped from my hiding spot towards the lake. As soon as I was a few feet from the lake, I fell on my knees and winced as pain coursed through my entire body but gently, I lowered myself to a sitting position. I glanced around my environment, with my heart still beating wildly from how fast I’d limped just to get away from the alpha. It was the first time I’d come in contact with him and the first time he’d noticed me. The moment my eyes landed on his forest green orbs, my dad’s warning drummed in my head.“You must stay far away from the alpha and make sure he doesn't notice you,”My dad had constantly sung these words in my ears from the moment we moved into BlackMane. His reasons for wanting me to keep a low profile, especially from the alpha, was because we were immigra
Aria’s POVThe dull ache in my lower abdomen roused me from sleep at the crack of dawn, followed by the loud blaring of my alarm clock. Hastily, I reached for it and turned it off to avoid waking my dad as I wasn’t ready for his trouble so early in the morning. I expelled a deep breath, but just as I tried to close my eyes to get a few more minutes of sleep, a piercing pain twisted in my abdomen and a whimper slipped out of my lips at the same time as I felt my panties dampen.“Shit!” I cussed in a barely audible voice, a painful groan following thereafter, and one of my hands flew to my stomach to cradle my abdomen as I turned to lay on my stomach, with tears welling up in my eyes.It was my period.I hated this time of the month because I was never prepared for it and my cramps were always after my life. Worse still, it was a school morning and I had a test that day, hence, staying away from school wasn’t in the cards for me.It had been a week since I escaped from the nurse at the
Aria’s POVPaint shot through my entire body as I landed on the hard floor of the school compound, with shards of glass scattered around me from when I’d jumped through the window. I vaguely saw the bruises and cuts on my limbs before I continued sprinting across the compound, towards my escape route_the broken fence at the back of the school. The pain in my lower abdomen, coupled with the one in my core from my father’s assault intensified but I ignored it, as I ran out of the school compound into the woods that led to the lake. All I wanted was to get far away from the alpha, just to heed my father’s warnings. I had enough on my plate already, from dealing with the effect I had on my father. I couldn’t add that of another male.“Don’t think that way,” Hailey spoke but I scoffed. It came out as a weak whimper and my body and brain slowly began to wake to the pain that was ricocheting through me. “He doesn't seem that way…”“Dad was once nice too,” I retorted as I ran through the fore
Shane’s POV“I can feel her. She’s in pain,” I told Chase, as we ran into the woods, past the tall trees, with her scent leading us.I hadn’t planned for things to go this way, but it was as if I was under a spell and when it came to her, I couldn’t control myself. From the first time I’d set eyes on her, the fearful expression in her soulful green eyes had gripped my heart in a vice that I just couldn’t keep my distance from her. I should have let Chase handle it as I’d planned and we wouldn’t have to pass through this stress but Axel was being too impatient and so was I.“Why did you even let her see you in the first place?” Chase gritted out, his words bearing an undertone of annoyance. He’d been in a meeting with Principal Barnett when I called him to help me find Anna.“I just couldn’t stay away,”It was true. I wasn’t meant to be at the school that morning. I was driving by when her scent of fresh jasmine sailed into my nose and it was so strong that I was powerless to its effec
Aria’s POVThe bright morning light streamed into my eyes the moment I opened them, causing a moment of temporary color blindness and I shut them back, squinting them tight. A while later, I slowly opened my eyes to be met with the white pristine walls of my environment. A frown slipped into my face as I glanced around to see I was in a strange room. Even the bed I was lying on was far bigger than my small bed, and unlike the nightstand in my room with books sitting on it, the nightstand in this room was empty, holding just a lamp and a bottle of water. I turned a bit to glance out of one of the two windows in the room and instead of the usual familiar bush path that was behind my home, I was met with a clear view of the street below and more buildings.A wave of confusion and fear hit me as I began to wonder what had happened. I closed my eyes and tried to recall how I’d gotten to this strange place but all I could remember was how I’d jumped through the window of my class in an atte
Shane’s POVI paced in my office, pondering over my conversation with Anna and how strangely she’d acted to my presence, while I waited for Chase’s arrival. I sent for him as soon as I left her room. He was supposed to be heading to the school to supervise the ongoing work but I needed to confide in someone. The office door opened and Chase stepped in, his eyes bearing a worried expression.“How’s she?” A deep sigh expelled from my lips as I stopped pacing and stared at him before rounding the desk to take my seat in one of the plush leather office chairs.“She’s awake now, but she’s still in pain,”“And Dr. Mark has confirmed that she’ll be fine, right?”His words made me remember all that the pack doctor told me after examining her the previous day. It appeared the bastard in the dungeon had been abusing her for long and from some of the research I’d done, he was meant to be her father, to protect her and keep her safe but the pervert chose to use her to fulfill his sick fantasies.
Shane’s POV A wave of jealousy washed over me, crowding my sense of reasoning, with my palms tightly balled into fists as I watched Chase’s car roll out through the gates. There was a sour taste in my mouth, just from watching Aria interact so well and freely with him. Memories of all that happened the previous night flooded my thoughts, the moment I laid eyes on her. I could recall how soft her lips were when they had touched mine. How pliant her body was against mine and how soft she’d felt. How lovingly her touch had been and how her lovely scent had sated me. I’d found peace and all of my worries were forgotten in those few minutes she’d spent in my arms but it all came crashing down when she’d admitted she wasn’t good enough for me and had run out of my bedroom even before her words could make sense to me. Her words and her sudden change in character came as a shock to me, that I was lost on what to do. It seemed that shitty bastard had done more damage to her than I ever gave
Aria’s POV…there was a large crowd gathered, with murmurs flying around, but that wasn’t what drew my attention to their midsts. It was the soulful wails and cries of a woman I couldn’t see yet, and the screams of agony coming from a masculine voice. My heart slammed harder against my chest, my brows furrowing in confusion, as I made my way past the angry crowd, chanting what seemed like a war song, with a blazing fire crackling in their midst. A whiff of burning skin assailed my nostrils and I scrunched it up, as my heart raced faster, the closer I got to the scene, but when I finally found my way to the forefront, the scene before me had bile rising in my throat with my guts twisting as tears welled up in my eyes.Amid the burning fire was a man tied to a stake so he couldn't escape. I watched him helplessly struggling against the chains holding him to the stake as the blazing fire licked up his skin, causing screams of agony to tear out of his lips. But worse than this, was the pr
Aria’s POVOne minute I was looking into his intense forest-green orbs and the next I was sealing my lips to his for a kiss. The moment my lips touched his, I felt him tense and his hold on my hips tightened. For a minute, he remained still, not making any move to deepen the kiss. Disappointment and mortification crashed into me and I quickly pulled away, trying to put some distance between us but then he grabbed my hips tightly and pulled hard, jerking me forward until my chest was pressed tightly to his and a gasp of shock flew out of my lips. But before I could get a chance to gather my scattered thoughts, his lips were on mine, kissing me passionately and possessively as though he couldn’t get enough. One of his hands gripped my waist tightly while the other traveled up my back, to the nape of my neck to hold it in place as he continued kissing me, allowing his tongue to taste me and mate with mine. It was so heated that I couldn’t hold back the whimper that escaped my lips but he
Aria’s POVA loud gasp expelled from my lips, my eyes widening as my gaze trailed Shane’s naked body, still dripping with water. My heart thudded in my chest as my curious gaze traveled down his body, down to his groin and I felt my stomach tightening and curling with a strange sensation when my eyes landed on his hardening manhood.Another gasp flew out of my lips as my eyes widened even more. It was my first time seeing a dick and as shocked as I was, I couldn’t stop nor explain the thrill that ran through me as I kept staring at it. Gradually, I noticed it began to grow hard. I was so lost in the sight before me that I’d forgotten it was Shane that I was shamelessly ogling until the sound of his voice pulled me out of my trance.“Aria…” he groaned in a deep guttural voice that quickly snapped me out of my reverie and as soon as my eyes landed on his, I did the first thing that registered in my head_to run away. One minute I was staring into his darkening forest green orbs and the n
Aria’s POV“You can’t keep running away,” Hailey voiced out but I ignored her.Yes, I’d found an excuse to quickly escape from Shane’s presence when things started getting intense. I hated that I was always flighty around him, but I couldn’t help it. I could feel my body slowly giving in to the deep feelings that arose within me. Whenever I set eyes on him, my heart leaped and when he smiled at me, I could feel butterflies setting off in my stomach and I couldn’t even explain the warmth that always spread through me and the deep feelings of comfort that surrounded me whenever I was in his presence. But even at that, I was still struggling against all of these feelings.“Not every man is like George,” Hailey spoke again, and I released a deep sigh as my shoulders slumped in defeat. For the first time, I acknowledged her words but my fear of falling into the wrong hands and landing into the same situation I’d barely gotten out of was far too great to let me believe those words. Instead,
Shane’s POV“An eye for an eye,” the prisoner’s words rang in my head as I approached the pack house. After my session with the man, Chase had pushed me out of the dungeons, telling me he’d handle it and although I’d been reluctant to leave, I knew it was for the best. One more minute in the presence of the man and I’d be forced to snap his neck. But even that wouldn’t grant the satisfaction and solution I was after. He’s shown that he wasn’t afraid of death and was ready to lay his life down to see the end of the BlackMane pack.“Oh, trust me, I’d be glad to set my life on the line to avenge my ancestors,” These words plowed my thoughts as I struggled to make sense of them. My thoughts traveled way back to the history of the BlackMane pack but even as far as I could remember the pack was always known for its peaceful coexistence with other packs. There hasn’t been any war in ages, except for the war between the witches and the werewolves that took place almost two decades ago, and f
Shane’s POV“That’s it,” Chase pointed at the dilapidated building opposite the street as we parked at the curb. The house was in the quiet residential part of town. I could understand why the family could have gone missing for an entire week without the neighbors finding out. The neighborhood was more like an estate where everyone minded their business.Together, with the sentinels that had followed us, we alighted the cars and approached the building with visible soot stains and with half of the roof gone from when it had been burning. The front door was blown open and even the glasses on the windows were gone, with the shards scattered about. It seemed more like an explosion, rather than just a natural fire disaster.“You think this was set up?” I asked Chase, just to confirm my thoughts. He glanced at me and his eyes returned to the building again, just as the Sentinels approached the open entrance. I raised a hand for them to stop and they did.I didn’t want to risk any of my men
Aria’s POV“Come on, angel, take a seat,” Shane nodded at the chair he’d pulled out for me as he placed a plate of food on the table. With a smile spread across my lips, I sat down and he leaned down to kiss my temple before taking the seat across from me. We were in the kitchen, seated at the breakfast bar.As soon as he realized I was hungry and had skipped lunch, he quickly ordered one of the maids to fix me a quick lunch. Thereafter he sent them out of the kitchen so we could have our private moment.“How about you, where’s your food?” I inquired, with a mouthful of food but he shook his head, chuckling at me from how I sounded. I cocked a brow in question and he simply shrugged.“I’m not hungry, love,”I frowned.“Are you sure?”“I’m not hungry, princess. Quit worrying about me,”His nickname made my cheeks heat up as I looked down and continued with my meal.“So tell me about your day,”Suddenly, my eyes lit up, a bright smile stretching my lips as I remembered my encounter with
Aria’s POVI absentmindedly tapped my fingers on my desk, with my eyes riveted on the fancy wall clock hanging on the wall, at the front of the class, way above the teacher’s head. It was almost five minutes until the close of school for the day and I could barely wait to get out of the class. I’d had a very eventful day, from having to open up about my real identity to the shocked principal, to becoming the discussion amongst every group of students, all thanks to Shane. At first, I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me when I kept meeting with their stares. While some screamed of curiosity, especially from the male students, the females looked like they wanted to shoot lasers at me. It was no secret that they all had their eyes on the alpha but now that he was close to me, they were beginning to see me as a competition. It still felt strange to be pulled from the shadows I’d always hidden in and to become the center of attention but I didn’t care as long as they weren’t going
