"Daddy, are you awake?"
I slightly opened my eyes, greeted by the silhouette of a child, her face hidden by the aura of the sun circling her head as she leaned closer to my face. A small smile lifted my lips as I felt her delicate hands poke at my cheek with a long sigh, prodding me awake.
I chuckled, adding to her frustration. "Daddy is still asleep..."
She tilted her head, letting out another exasperated sigh. "But you're talking. Are you sleep talking?
- Maybe." My ears were filled by the sound of her sweet giggle which in return made me laugh. I smiled and finally opened my eyes, delighted to see her. She was the perfect daughter. Delicate round face, dazzling green eyes, gorgeous blonde locks and her adorable smile, with her two front teeth missing.
I was quick to scoop her up from the ground and I lifted her above the ground while she outstretched her arms like an airplane, pretending she had the ability to fly. We went on for a few minu

The following morning was pretty tough on the pack; the night had been pretty cold. Since most of us had nothing more but pants to cover ourselves and no mattress to sleep, we were all quite sore. A few ended up sleeping in their Wolf form to shield from the cold with their pelt, but even then sleeping wasn't very enjoyable. Ava and Jace's disappearance had taken its toll on the pack alongside the looming fatigue and overall boredom. Even though my Wolf healing had already kicked in, I was forced to stay at camp under Kira's orders. I just finished sending our few capable scouts for a quick patrol when I sat down near the Healer, watching intently as she worked on her smelly mixtures. I was always fascinated by her work and how something that seemed so natural to her seemed strange to me. I never bothered asking her about it though, fearful I'd break her focus.
I trotted up to Zed, curious to know what could've made him so tense, until my eyes spotted the vile and the plant in the palm of his hand. My Wolf instantly jumped back, well aware of the dangerous substance as it snarled. Wolfsbane! I snarl, ordering him to put it back where he found it as everyone else backed away, startled by my sudden shift of tone. I grabbed the strap of the bag between my jaws, fighting back the urge to throw it away while the plant's irritating smell burnt my nostrils. Let's head back, Kira will clean you boys up. I'll take care of this. I turned towards Winston and Conor.Carry the youngest to camp, let me know when he wakes up. I need to have a little chat with him...I added that last part as I turned around, trotting towards camp, already gagging as the mixture's smell invaded my snout and covered every other scent.
"Hey, hey, calm down." Despite a part of me wanted to hear him out and help him, I couldn't keep my guard down. I was preparing myself to ask a few more questions, but my Wolf pulled my attention elsewhere as he noticed an intriguing detail; his wounds were already showing signs of healing. It was faint, but noticeable to a sharp eye. Intrigued, I took a moment and starred into his eyes, searching for a sign until I eventually felt it; it's presence was faint, but unmistakably there. This boy is a werewolf. I could barely hide my stupor at the realization. He must've gone through an incredible amount of trauma to have his Wolf side subside this way, or something else was affecting him. He didn't seem to have any physical injuries, but his face did seem rather pale and covered in cold sweats. Something is definitely a wrong with this k
Tommy kept a tight grip on my shoulder, making growl when his nails kept digging into my skin; he was nervous I could hear his heart beat increase by the second. The bounds around my wrists irritated and burnt as they began to cut through my flesh, but I forced myself to ignore the pain. It felt like forever since we had left camp, yet we still didn't seem to be anywhere near enemy grounds. I'm not even sure this kid knows what he's doing... We walked for what could've easily been another hour before I finally detected signs of a nearby camp; the pungent smell of humans and smoke reached my nose and I groaned in disgust. I still can't believe I let myself get dragged into this, but I couldn't do anything about it now, we were already too close for my own comfort. I continued to play along, tolerating the sensation of a knife in my back and nails digging into my shoulder when we finally
A small voice rose from the silence, catching our attention. All eyes turned to one of the tents as a small child with slick brown hair peeked his head from the side of the entrance. The kid gently pushed the curtain aside, only to run to Tommy who fell back to his knees. Embracing each other, I realized just how close the two really were. Tobby was also much younger than I first thought; the boy seemed to be around nine or ten years old, much too young to be out here all alone with these people. Tommy pulled back, cupping the kid's face while he whipped away his tears with his thumbs. He was speaking so quickly, I had trouble following his words. "Hey buddy- are you okay? Did they hurt you? Are you hurt?" The kid shook his head, and his brother instantly pulled him back into his arms, unable to let him go. He shot a grateful look towards Cade then the rest of the pack. "Thank you... Tr
Knock, knock, knock. I froze. Did someone knocked at the door...? Or is my mind playing tricks on me? I waited for a moment, keeping my senses sharp. Knock, knock, knock. Someone's at the door. Disoriented, I hobbled onto my feet, the migraine tussling my mind and thoughts. My senses were hyped up, as if I was in the middle of a dream in which every sound or sensation I felt was amplified by a thousand. Intruder... I heard my Wolf growl, irritated by the noise coming from the door. But as I approached, the disrupting smell of Wolfsbane reached my nostrils, setting me on high alert; shit! I hugged the side of the wall, holding my breath as I slowly moved towards it. Preparing myself to
"Hey, Luna?" I jumped when Zed addressed me with that title, unaware he had stayed at my side when I dismissed everyone. "Z-Zed! Yes, c-can I help you?" All pride washed away, I suddenly returned to my nervous self but quickly calmed down when I noticed he was just as anxious as I was. "I uhm... Can we talk in private?" Taking a soft gaze, I nodded and stepped through the back door, memories of our previous argument washing over and disrupting my mood.Perhaps I should apologize for snapping at him like that... I nodded and we headed outside. As he closed the door we walked a few minutes into the forest before he turned towards me. I could feel his body emanating waves of anxiety. He rubbed the back of his head as he spoke. "I... I wanted to apologize..." Zed's voice was shaky and he seemed to be extremely nervous which made me all the more empathetic and guilty about how I treated him. "I know I've acted... I never meant to— I didn't wa
"So...? What... what do you think? - Hm, it's honestly way too early too tell." Kira groaned, her wisdom filled eyes trailing up and down Angel's body. "Only time will tell. If you have any vomiting, sudden nausea, unusual hunger, anything out of the ordinary; you know what to do." In typical Kira style, the Healer walked away all the while mumbling under her breath. Angel on the other hand seemed like she was about to explode into a panic attack. I took a careful step forward, unsure how she was about to react or if she would pass out on me. Instead, Angel suddenly kneeled to the ground, covering her face with her hands in a sobbing fit. Oh crap, what am I supposed to do now!? I'm not cut out for this! Comfort her.Ruby nudged, taking the lead in the conversation for the first time. I felt strange as my body seemed to move on it's own. I kneeled by her side and embraced her into a hug. "Hey, hey, it's okay. It's gon
Tears brimmed in my eyes. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach as the gentle hand of my mate cupped my cheek, whipping away a my tear. His arm was but skin and bones, a fragile twig struggling to hold its own weight as he caressed my face. I joined my han to hold his, kissing the tender skin of his palm. "Trevor..." My voice quivered with emotion, fueled by rage and grief at the sight of his weakened condition. "What have they done to you?!"His lips lifted into a smile, the same one I've known for many years. "What took you so long?" He teased, ginger locks falling into a tangled mess over his eyes. "I was beginning to believe you've forgotten me. - Never! Never in a million moons." A choked laugh leaped out of my throat, mixed with sobs and sighs of relief. I quickly fondled into the set of keys Zak had given me, rushing you find the right key to Trevor's cell. The distinct sound of click followed as I inserted the fourth key and the metal door open with a creak. Trevor rose from
My gaze averted to the nearest window of the kitchen, dreams of the past coming back to haunt me. That look she gave me...it stung my very core. If only I could've seen her again, explain everything! No... No. You're a fucking coward Zed. You've always been and that's what you'll always be. My fathers words echoed at my temples like a ghost from my past whispering to my ear. He's right... My wolf tugged at our bond, whimpering silently as I sunk further into my mind, wishing nothing else but to be swallowed whole and forgotten. I wanted to be erased from the earth, left behind for the beasts to devour and clense my sins. "You're such a dumbass!" That laugh... Fuck, I love that laugh. His laugh. I miss it... I miss everything about him. The ring rolled between my fingers, ice cold compared the damp heat of my skin. I stared intently at the jewelry, a beautiful rainforest green topaze- his favorite. I swallowed bitterly, stuffing my prized possession in the deepest crevace of my poc
Minutes felt like hours left trapped in this dam room. So many questions were left unanswered. How did he appease Jace? Why lock up Jace? Did they see him as a threat? I struggled to ease my mind and caught myself walking in circles. I couldn't even find any clue as to where I was as every thing was completely foreign to me, from the trees, to the smells, even the furniture within the hut were unlike anything I've ever seen before. "... Strangers into the grove." I perked my head to the sound of a muffled voice followed by heavy foot steps. "Do you have the slightest idea what you brought to camp? You may have a kind heart Sebastien, but your judgement is still greatly flawed. - I understand, i-it was a misjudgment Sir, I will not do it again. If I may ask however, what will you do?" A silence followed as both were posted right by the door of the room."Join Alya with the trainees. Leave the rest to me." The door knob turned swiftly then the door swung open to the shape of the hoode
Anxious, she continued to pace back and forth by their usual rendezvous point, a million questions buzzing through her mind. It's almost sunrise and if she doesn't head back soon, the others would begin to worry. She couldn't leave without at least telling him... who knows when they'll get another opportunity like this? All the while gazing at the sun from time to time, she continued to pace around, fiddling her pendant in her fingers.Suddenly, a large hand covered her mouth followed by llea, muscular arms that pulled her back and into a tall man's chest. She gave out a muffled scream, startled and terrified until a voice whispered softly into her ear."Missed me?" Enraged, the women rolled her eyes and pushed herself away from the man's grip, fuming with anger as he gave her a smug smile."Sv'Ak, Aaron! You know I hate it when you sneak up on me like that!" She hissed between her teeth, careful as to not raise her voice to high. "And you know it isn't good for the baby..." she blush
A metallic hiss bounced between the cobbled walls, replacing the heavy silence that had settled amongst the prisoners. Frustrated growls harmonized with rattling bars as a red manned man gripped the cold metal with powerful fists. "FUCK!" Frustration boiled the blood in his veins, anger emanating from his skin in waves of heat. "When I get my hands on that bastard, I'll fucking KILL HIM! - Quit your yapping, I've known day old pups with better anger management than you." Croaked an old voice from the corner of the cell. Turning her focus back to her occupation, Kyra rummaged through the contents of her satchel, brows furrowed in concentration. Leaned against the wall of the cell, Angel stared helplessly towards the end of the hall, forcing herself to swallow the knot of bile rising within her throat."Any idea where they might've taken them? - I'm more worried about what they're going to do to us!" Groaned a dark haired male, blue eyes glaring at the girl, the smell of fear and swe

My heart sank. I could feel the rumble of Ruby's snarl shake through my body, causing my limbs to tremble with rage. Although the heart breaking truth lingered since I woke up, part of me refused to believe it. Yet here we were, face to face as enemies. Anger boiled my blood. I clenched my fists until my knuckles turned white, unable to hide the despair and rage burning within me.Zed's ice blue gaze reflected nothing but guilt, silently pleading for my forgiveness. "Ava...- Don't." I sneered, unable to hide the emotions that cracked my voice. I gazed down, forcing myself to break eye contact in an attempt to calm my urge to claw his face off. I took a sharp breath, swallowing my anger. Insults filled my mind, fuelled by emotion and grief only to die at the tip of my tongue, refusing to come out. "Why...?" Is the only word I brought myself to mutter lifting my gaze to meet his. Once again, our eyes met, desperate and grief-stricken. I could feel Ruby's anger for the former Scout ris
Hello readers! First and foremost, I'd like to apologize for the sudden silence on TAO's updates; some IRL events occurred and left us unable to update the series for much longer than we initially planned. We're incredibly happy to return and see the book has managed to gain such a huge number of readers, more than ANY of our works have gained prior to this one! With that in mind, we are incredibly excited to announce a sequel is currently in the works and will be released as a second half to this story with the hopes of eventually creating a third and final installment within the far future. In the meantime, we will be reviewing the current released chapters as they are outdated and have been published in their "draft" form. It is then highly recommended to re-read the story as a refresher to the story's events and as of means to update yourself on the lore. TAO final 3 chapters will be released this weekend, alongside the beginning of book 2: Cursed Souls and Lost Heirs. Thank yo
"Katara?"The stone ceiling of a cold room greeted my sight, my eyes slowly adjusting to my poorly lit surroundings. My entire body was numb from the cold floor, it's icy touch freezing my skin and muscles. My eyes darted around, unable to figure out where I was.By then, an agonizing pain bloomed in my head, temples screaming at every heart beat. I gave out but a small groan, unable to feel or move my body. A voice reached my ears, but it was drowned and muffled by the sound of my own heartbeat thrumming against my temples.Slowly, the voice cleared into coherent words. "Ava? Can you hear me dear? Ava!"My eyes adjusted to the darkness, distinguishing the distinct face of an old women. My heart jumped, tears building at the sight of the old Healer."Kira..." My voice was harsh, broken by my parchment dry throat. I struggled to swallow, feeling an urgent need for water. As though she could read my thoughts, Kira's bony head steadily lifted a wooden bowl to my lips, the distinguished sm
