If anyone had told me how mates always shared everything and cared for one another, I would have wholeheartedly agreed because that’s what I always believed. Now, sitting in a guest room, my eyes wet from tears, my hair a mess, and my heart shattered into a million pieces, I could only laugh at my old naïve self. I would tell everyone the reality of having mates: some of them will keep secrets and break their mates' hearts, just like my mate.

I had been sitting in the same room for about an hour, crying until my eyes couldn’t produce any more tears. Valor had come here; I felt his presence, but he left quickly and hasn’t come back since. No one else has come to check on me, and to be honest, I preferred it that way. I was lost in my thoughts when a knock at the door abruptly brought me back to reality. Standing up, I nervously made my way to the door. It wasn’t Valor; I let out a sigh of relief. I was definitely not ready to face him yet.

Slowly, I opened the door and felt tears form

Waking myself up in the morning proved a difficult task, especially since I had slept at 3 AM after thinking about how stupid I had been. Valor hadn't spoken a word to me since, and I didn't blame him. Guilt was eating me alive, and my wolf kept blaming everything on me. She said that I didn't trust Valor enough because I didn't want a mate.I knew there was some truth to her words. I rolled out of bed and glanced at Valor's side, which was, of course, empty. I should have known. Sighing to myself, I reached the bathroom and had a shower, hoping to leave this drama behind. But, of course, sharing a bathroom with Valor meant that everything smelled like him, which didn't help my wolf or me. Instead of the peaceful shower I had hoped for, I couldn't stop thinking about Valor.I quickly got dressed and rushed out of our room. I needed to apologize for my behavior. Confusion was etched on my face as I couldn't smell Valor anywhere in the pack house. I lifted my nose again to smell, but I

Valor stood there with his arms crossed, a look of anger on his face, which made my wolf tell me how hot our mate looked when he was angry. "I know this is hard to believe, Valor, but your mate tried to force herself on me. Of course, I said no, but she slapped me when I refused, and you came along. It must have looked like something else, but I assure you that I didn't encourage her actions," Draven said, stepping away from me and shaking his head as though I had caused this. The nerve! Well, I wasn't going to let him get away with that. There is no way I would let my mate think badly of me. "Hey, that is utter crap. Valor, don't believe him. He tried to force himself on me. Why would I want him when I have you? Please believe me, Valor; I would never do anything like that," I pleaded with Valor with my eyes. I really hoped that Valor would believe me. After all, I was his mate, but there was a small part of me that made me think Valor wouldn't believe me after all I had done to h

The sunlight pouring through the window prompted me to open my eyes. Of course, the first thing I saw was a peaceful Valor, still fast asleep. I was tempted to kiss him but stopped myself and carefully got out of bed, making sure not to awaken him. I did the necessary things before getting ready and rushing out of the room. I didn't want Valor to wake up because of me. Deciding that it was too early to meet the pack members, I went into the kitchen and decided that I wanted to bake something. Every Sunday, I used to bake cookies for my family, and considering this was my new family, it would make sense to carry on the tradition, even if it was a Thursday, not a Sunday. Close enough.Humming one of Rihanna's songs to myself, I managed to find all the ingredients I needed to bake these cookies. Baking was one of the things that helped me get my mind off things, and it was just one of my favorite things to do.As I put the cookies in the oven and proceeded to clean up my mess, a little v

I followed Phoebe and Elara out of the house, a mixture of nerves and relief swirling inside me. Going shopping might be a good distraction, but I couldn’t shake the lingering weight of guilt and tension between me and Valor. Still, I needed this—some time to breathe, to feel normal, even just for a few hours. As we made our way to the nearby town, the crisp morning air felt refreshing. Phoebe was buzzing with excitement, chatting about sales and must-have items, while Elara chimed in occasionally, offering practical advice. I mostly listened, smiling when appropriate, but my mind kept drifting back to Valor and how cold he had been this morning. "Lenora, are you even listening?" Phoebe nudged me playfully, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Sorry, I got distracted," I admitted sheepishly. Phoebe rolled her eyes but smiled. "You’re thinking about Valor, aren’t you?" I hesitated before nodding. "It’s just... I don’t know how to fix things between us. I feel like everything I do only

Lunch preparation with Valor started off awkward. I didn’t know if I should give him something simple to do, like peeling carrots, or risk asking him to chop something and lose a finger. I decided to play it safe.“Here,” I said, handing him a bowl of potatoes. “You can peel these. Easy job.”Valor gave me a flat look. “You don’t trust me with a knife?”“Not yet,” I teased, flashing him a grin. “Let’s start with something you can’t ruin.”He smirked but didn’t argue, grabbing the peeler and getting to work. Watching a powerful Alpha hunched over, struggling to peel potatoes, was oddly satisfying. He muttered something under his breath when the peeler slipped and nicked his thumb.“Careful,” I said, trying not to laugh.“I could be out training with the warriors,” he grumbled. “Instead, I’m peeling potatoes.”“You’re bonding with your Luna,” I shot back. “That’s more important.”He paused and looked at me, his piercing blue eyes softening just a little. “Yeah, I guess it is.”That cau

The day had gone surprisingly well. Cooking with Valor had been more fun than I expected, and the pack members seemed genuinely pleased. For once, I felt like I was actually part of something. But as the evening rolled around, I found myself alone in the living room, my thoughts drifting.I didn’t expect Valor to come looking for me.“Lenora,” his deep voice called, pulling me from my thoughts.I looked up to see him standing at the doorway, his arms crossed, his usual intimidating aura softened slightly. His presence always made the room feel smaller, like there wasn’t enough space for the both of us.“Hey,” I said, trying to keep my tone casual. He stepped into the room, his footsteps heavy against the hardwood floor. “I was wondering where you disappeared to.”“Just needed some quiet,” I replied. “It’s been a long day.”Valor nodded, then hesitated, as if he was trying to find the right words. “About earlier... in the kitchen. It was a typical Saturday morning when the doorbell rang. I was in the middle of tidying up the living room when I heard it. The sound of the doorbell made me freeze for a moment. I wasn’t expecting anyone, but as the familiar voices started floating from the entryway, I knew exactly who it was.I rushed to the door with a smile on my face, opening it to reveal my mom standing there with Leander, his wife Freya, and their two little troublemakers, Axton and Liora.“Mom!” I exclaimed, pulling her into a tight hug. “What are you guys doing here?”“Well, we figured we’d pay you a visit,” she said, beaming. “And since we haven’t seen Valor yet, we thought it was the perfect time!”I stepped back to let them in, but Axton and Liora were already making a beeline for the living room, shouting and laughing as they ran. They were little whirlwinds, full of energy. I couldn’t help but laugh as I watched them jump on the sofa, their laughter filling the house.Leander and Freya stepped inside,

The sun was beginning to set as I watched Valor load my mom, Leander, Freya, and their kids into his car. It had been such a nice day having them here, and seeing Valor get along with my family made my heart feel full. He even managed to survive Axton and Liora’s endless energy. I couldn’t stop smiling as they waved goodbye, my mom blowing me a kiss while Freya adjusted Liora’s seatbelt. “I’ll drive them home and be back soon,” Valor said before he got in the driver’s seat. His voice was steady, but I could see the flicker of exhaustion in his eyes. Still, he smiled at me, and it felt like we were slowly finding our way back to each other. “Drive safely,” I called out. He gave me a small nod before pulling out of the driveway. The sound of their car fading into the distance left the house unusually quiet. For a while, I busied myself cleaning up, putting away the dishes, and tidying the living room. But as the hours dragged on, an uneasy feeling started to creep in. By the time th

Two weeks had passed since the accident, and Valor was finally back on his feet. Watching him walk around like his old self again felt like a weight lifted off my chest. He was strong, not just in body but in spirit. Still, I couldn’t help but hover around him, making sure he didn’t overdo it.“Lenora, I’m fine,” he said, catching me watching him as he carried a stack of plates to the kitchen.“I know,” I said, crossing my arms. “But you’re not invincible, Mr. Hero. Just take it easy, okay?”Valor smirked and set the plates down. “Noted, Luna,” he teased, leaning in to kiss my temple.I was about to tease him back when the doorbell rang.“I’ll get it!” I called, wiping my hands on a dish towel. When I opened the door, I found a man standing there, looking slightly nervous. His arm was in a sling, and beside him stood a young woman, her beauty so striking it caught me off guard. She had long auburn hair and piercing green eyes, the kind of natural elegance that belonged in magazines.
