Dina’s POV
“You got a job,” Rita asked, and I could feel my cheeks burning up with every word she spoke. “As the alpha’s maid?”
Her grin was so broad at this point, I all but knew what the Grand Canyon looked like.
“Yes,” I muttered, hoping the earth would open and swallow me whole. The sexual undertone in Rita’s voice and the scheming glint in her eyes was just about too much for my burning cheeks. “I live there too,” I confessed, making my best friend's grin grow to a full-blown suggesting smirk. I sighed. “For practical reasons--- Rita! Why must you turn everything into something sexual?”
At that, she threw her head back and laughed. Rita was one of those gorgeous, short brunettes who could rock a miniskirt and 8-inch heels, just as fabulously as an over-sized painted T-shirt and dungarees. And yeah, she was also that bitch that looked absolutely stunning in both. Sometimes, I swear, the goddess has favorites and Rita was definitely at the top of her list. Rita was stunning inside and out; she was kind, without putting up with shit. Generous, without being a pushover and a bitch, without being mean.
Oh yeah, and my best friend!
We met in high school when she transferred from another pack and we’d basically been joined at the hips since then. We found that art was a shared passion and whereas I wanted to become an architect, she wanted to study art. After high school, we both applied to the college closest to the pack, because we didn’t want to go through the paperwork that was required to study in another pack. And because unclaimed territory (aka most human towns) was too risky for our kind, thanks to it being the hunting ground for vampires and other supernatural beings.
“Like it was hard in this case?”, Rita laughed and her perfectly shaped, red lips smirked at me, while I could see the mischief forming behind her perfect, dark blue eyes. And as on cue, the theatrics started. She threw herself at me, landing in my lap with one hand covering her forehead, as she dramatically exclaimed: “A young, innocent and sexy maid. A handsome, dangerous, brooding alpha… Please! This story is practically writing itself!”
She laughed as I pushed her off me.
“Arg! Rita, you’re so---” I groaned, but Rita wasn’t done...
“All it takes is one of your epic fails, landing in his arms,” she continued, grabbing my shirt in her usual melodramatic way. “He’ll hold you tight, looking deeply into your eyes and---” She stopped. Frowned, and then let go of me so suddenly I almost fell forward as she sat upright. “Nah, too 18th century! Let me see... OH! Now I got it!” She grinned and spun to face me. And with that look in her eyes, I knew I was in for it...
“One epic fail and he’ll have to punish you!”
She winked, mischievously.
“RITA!” I sputtered, nearly choking on my lunch. Rita knew that I was clumsy enough to trip over a painted line. It was my Kryptonite and being the type of friend that she was, she made sure I would never live to forget it.
You know--- the usual best friend stuff...
And to make matters worse, my horny wolf liked her humor and immediately pushed some very inappropriate images into my head. I groaned. First my friend and now my wolf too? How much more of this did I have to take? And to top it all off, I did enjoy the image of Alpha Stone's naked chest…
“He’ll take advantage of his stature, making it impossible to say no, and trap you in his muscular arms,” Rita continued her onslaught while I hid my lantern-red face. “Before he gives you the downtime of a lifetime.”
“Oh my god,” I exclaimed and looked up at my best friend in shock. Her broad grin, however, made me laugh. OK, I give up! I could imagine that movie!
“Downtime of a lifetime? Really?”, I laughed, before noticing a familiar presence behind me.
“Who’s getting the downtime of a lifetime?” Michael’s voice sounded and I looked up at the handsome beta. He was casually dressed, but his grin spelled all kinds of mischief. “And why aren’t I invited?”
“Michael!” I exclaimed in surprise and made room for him to join us. It was lunch break and, as tradition demanded, I and Rita got together to eat. Since it was a nice day out, we opted to eat outside. For humans, it may have been a tad too cold still, but cold weather didn't really bother us werewolves.
Michael dumped his huge body very ungracefully between us and stretched out his long legs, like he used to back when we dated. I grinned. I didn’t see this guy in years and now twice in a week? What were the odds? Well, probably more now that I live with the alpha…
“It’s---" I was just about to explain to him Rita's joke, but she, of course, beat me to it.
“Dina is hoping to seduce the alpha with her new maid job,” she smirked.
To my horror!
“Rita!” I exclaimed, my eyes bulging so wide, I feared they might roll out of my skull. I turned to Michael, who already had a knowing glimpse in his eyes, as he was striking down at me. As if he already suspected as much. Oh goddess! Could you die from embarrassment?
“I do---N-NOT! I-I swear!”
I was a stuttering mess and, to make matters worse, the beta just burst out laughing.
“Don’t sweat it,” he winked. “Your secret is safe with me!”
“Michael,” I groaned and hid my face, hoping and praying that the earth would open and swallow me whole. “Et tu, Brutus?”
Michael continued to laugh and it felt sort of strange how quickly I felt reconnected to him. Not romantically, but he somehow seemed like the same guy I’d fallen for back in high school. Kind and carefree.
A friend…
“I’m sorry to burst your bubble,” he continued before wrapping an arm around me and giving me a squeeze. “He likes girls with a little more junk in the trunk if you get me.”
I frowned at him, trying to muster up a comeback. But I couldn't. Because despite knowing that I had a snowball's chance in hell with Alpha Stone, his words felt like a screw to my chest. It shouldn't hurt but it did, knowing that he didn't see me as anything other than a responsibility. I should have been used to the idea of not being wanted anymore. And that the only real family I had was Rita...
“That can be arranged,” Rita suggestively winked back at me.
“Rita, I swear,” I snarled at her. “One more word from you and I’ll murder you with a bobby pin!”
Taking my threat very seriously (NOT!) Rita threw her head back and laughed some more.
“I don’t think we’ve met,” Michael said, and as he unwrapped me, he held his hand out to Rita. “I’m Michael Danvers.”
Well, that finally got her to shut up!
She gaped at the tall beta and paled a little when she finally realized who she was talking to. I smirked at her.
Serves her right!
“As in---” she gulped and a red blush became visible beneath her makeup. “Beta Danvers?”
“That would be one and the same,” Michael replied, and I could tell by the look in his eyes, he enjoyed the way he was affecting her. I sighed. So typical wolves! They always loved to drop a power bomb.
“Oh shit,” Rita exclaimed, alternating her eyes between me and Michael. “Erm, I was kidding about---!” At this point, she was frantically making hand signs that only made sense to me. But I could see the amusement in Michael’s eyes while she panicked. “She couldn’t seduce a succubus even if she tried.”
“Hey!” I exclaimed, trying to be offended. “I can be---seductive if I want.”
Truth?
Not even to save my life!
The only thing worse than my seducing skills would be my cooking skills.
“Really?” Michael asked and smirked, turning my already tomato-red face even brighter.
No...!
“Yes?” I tried for confidence but realized that the word came out more as a question rather than a statement. Which earned me another round of laughs from my friends.
“OK, I’m confused,” Josh's voice suddenly came out of nowhere, just before he dropped down next to us. Josh and I both studied architecture and had a lot of the same classes. We'd been paired up for an assignment once and we sort of hit it off - as friends. Rita insisted that he wanted more, but I didn't get that feeling from him. Besides, he was a major playboy, and thanks to good werewolf genes, he was tall, handsome and with soft brown eyes, he was a hit with all of the ladies. And he was nice, which was what a lot of women liked.
He just wasn't my type...
Josh wanted the fame and fortune that came with being a successful architect, while I did it for a completely different reason. But despite our differences, we still became friends and, as for study-buddies, he was very clever and smart. And he helped me out a lot. I, of course, did whatever I could to help him back, but I sometimes felt like I was taking advantage of him since he was way smarter than me. Although Rita claimed that that was my insecurities talking…
"Who does Dina have to seduce?”
Dina's POVJosh was looking confused as he glanced between me and the other two people present.“No one!” I groaned. Was it "Let's make the maid’s life miserable"-day and I just missed the memo?“Oh, don’t fret,” Josh winked, and his golden brown eyes met mine. “I’ll let you seduce me anytime you want.”“Geez, thanks!” I muttered, and hopelessly let my head hang.“Beta Danvers,” Josh exclaimed, as he finally recognized Michael. Although he was the beta, the beta and alpha didn't intermingle much with the "average" life of their pack members. They were all about securing the territory for our wolves to shift and run safely and keeping it safe from other packs or rogues. All pack members paid a sort of "tax" for the upkeep and running of the pack, while the alpha and his enforcers trained and risked their lives to keep them safe. There was also a pack house
Dina’s POVI hauled the laundry out of the alpha’s room and kicked the basket down the hall. Luckily, I’d gotten used to his dirty socks laying all over the floor--- and yes, the man may be an alpha, but he had terrible aim! I smirked, as my wolf quickly pushed inappropriate thoughts into my mind, all about how his aim probably wasn’t off ALL the time.Horny wolf!I shook my head and went into the bathroom, picking up and dropping all the used towels into the basket, before collecting my own laundry and throwing it in as well. I’d been living with Alpha Stone for just about 3 weeks now. To absolutely no one’s surprise, my brother was a no-show at the two-week mark, but true to his word, Alpha Stone didn’t kick me out. He wasn’t home much, but I did see him around breakfast and dinner. Something I very quickly found myself getting very attached to. I even found myself missing him when he we
Dina's POVAlthough today had been a complete disaster, I sort of liked laundry day. It was just filling the washing machine and the dryer, alternatively, and hanging everything else up. In between, I could study, which I did a lot these days. And I found myself being very productive…The doorbell brought me out of my thoughts. I frowned, wondering who it might be. Michael didn’t use the bell (the guy barely knew how to knock!) and the mailman just dropped off his package at the door. I think he was scared of the alpha, which really wasn’t all that surprising: Alpha Stone was one seriously scary guy…I opened it and, to my surprise, there was a young, pretty blond with huge blue eyes smiling brightly at me. She looked small and innocent but for some reason, had my wolf instantly on alert.“Hey!” she beamed and held out a hand to me. “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Angela, Michael
WARNING: This chapter contains a scene of assault!Dina’s POVMy brain literally felt like mush and was about to drop out of my ears. I groaned and let my head rest against my art table. We were about 2/3 done with this project when Josh and Sherly – another one of my study buddies – suddenly started to argue about the assignment. I happened to agree with Josh on the direction we should take, which resulted in Sherly leaving in a rage. Now it was just me and Josh left and because he was an IT nerd and this was a practical project, I was basically stuck with all the work now.I sighed. We had finished the blueprints and now was just the modeling left. I had been using the school’s 3D printer (which was why Josh was a great help) for all the parts, but unfortunately, Sheril had left with the instructions and now she was refusing to pick up her phone. I just needed to make sure I had all the pieces be
WARNING: This chapter contains a scene of assault!Dina’s POV“You expect me to starve?” I snapped and turned to him, now simply ignoring the looks we were getting. Who was this guy and what was this asshole doing here?! “Seriously Josh. You’re acting very strange today.”“I don’t think it’s me, who’s acting strange,” he muttered, crossing his arms over his chest like a moping child. I rolled my eyes at him and finished my purchase. I didn't need this right now, but unfortunately for me, my life just couldn't ever be easy. Because like a spoiled brat, Josh refused to help me carry any of the grocery bags and stomped back to the car. I was honestly tempted to just drive him home and finish the project myself. I knew it meant I had to stay up late to finish it, but at this point, I almost preferred it to Josh’s weird mood.Luckily, by the time we reache
WARNING: This chapter contains a scene of assault!Dina’s POVWas Josh trying to mark me?!Over my dead body!I breathed in deeply, preparing to scream at the top of my lungs. But he efficiently cut me off by slamming his lips on mine. I gasped, but it came out as a muffled moan; almost encouraging him to continue. Now panic really sat in. I tried to turn my face away and push him off, by kicking my legs.“JOSH, STOP IT!” I yelled between wet slipping kisses, while I kicked and screamed. Mentally, I cursed the sexist idiot who gave male werewolves their unbudgeable bodies. Because try as I might, I was trapped underneath him; not even my unusual strength could get him off. As if something had possessed him, Josh quickly grabbed both of my wrists with one hand and held them down. He continued to kiss my skin, nibbling the spot, where my mate would mark me, while his other hand moved lower,
Dina’s POVI don’t know why, but my wolf somehow decided that this was the perfect time to remind me of all the erotic visions of this situation that Rita had put into my head. I gulped, yet my mouth remained dry as a dessert. My heart felt like it was trying to break my ribs and a shiver crept down my spine. And worst of all? It wasn’t a bad kind of shiver…“If you punish me,” I somehow managed to whisper. “Dinner will be late.”His expression changed from mischievous to confused in a matter of seconds. His eyes went wide and his brows furrowed. I don’t think he expected that and, to be honest, as for excuses went, that was a rather lame one…“Oh, what do I do?” he replied sarcastically. “Dinner or punish you?”I shrugged, hoping he’d go for the former. He just sighed and shook his head, before walking over to me. His dark eyes trailed over
Dina's POVIf memory served me right, he hadn’t hit Josh, so he must have gotten those before he rescued me.“You need some ice for that?” I offered while wondering what had happened. Without waiting for an answer, I took the towel and icebag out of his hand, and as carefully as I could, I wrapped it around his hand.“It’ll heal,” he gruffly grunted and tried to shake me off. Mentally, I rolled my eyes at him."Hold still, you big baby," I huffed and grabbed his hand again, carefully avoiding putting too much pressure on it. This time he let me, despite the displeased growl that made his chest vibrate.“What happened?” I asked to distract him. I reached for the other hand and carefully gave it the same treatment I'd given the other one. I knew he'd heal in no time, but there was no need for him to be in pain while it happened.Macho alpha bullshit...“Tres
Levi's POVWe ran towards our borders and within seconds he picked up a couple of rogues. He quickly turned his anger on them and hunted them down. I didn’t even try to hold him back. Hell, I couldn't even if I wanted to. In his blood-lusted state, there was nothing I could do to control him. He tore through them like a savage animal, but once he was done, he’d finally calmed down enough for me to take over and shifted back.We were quiet for a moment.Usually, when my wolf went on a rampage like this one, I would give him hell after. I hated him for being the monster he was, but---Not tonight…Tonight this was on me just as much as him. I hadn't even tried to fight him but had relished the release of his outrage. Because no matter what, I'd felt every bit as angry, frustrated, and scared as he was. I didn't understand it. And part of me feared that more than anything...I waited until my breathi
Levi’s POVI hate negotiating treaties! It’s not like the Black Lunar Pack needed them. My pack was strong in itself and I really didn’t get the point of “exchanging training techniques”. My Deltas had that down to the tooth and our Fighters and Elites were the best in the land, even beating the Royal Pack at the last "friendly" competition. I didn’t need their stupid fighters to teach my pack anything! The Black Lunar Pack didn’t need anyone else! But I wasn’t stupid.I knew that alliance meant no fighting and no fighting meant no wars or hostile takeovers. Most of the time anyway! So, I played my part in the stupid meeting with the Council nagging and bickering me to accept deal after deal.As if I was born yesterday…I knew Black Lunar was growing more powerful than anyone liked - especially the Royal Pack. I’d already expanded
Dina's POVMy heart dropped to the pit of my guts and suddenly I felt like throwing up. I hadn’t seen him in over two weeks and, honestly, I could do for another year without seeing his sorry ass.“What do you want?” I asked harshly while trying to fight every instinct in my body that screamed bloody murder. I was terrified but I refused to let fear control me. Not that anyone could blame me - I think. The last time I saw him, he’d tried to rape me. I wanted to move closer to Rita, but instead, I stood tall, glaring at him with everything I had. I was not going to let him see how he’d hurt me. I would never give him, Dylan, or any other man out there the pleasure of thinking they broke me.I would never give in…“I just---wanted to---,” he stuttered and nervously scratched the back of his neck. That was when I noticed that he looked like someone had used him as a chew toy and his skin looke
Dina’s POV“You and Michael?” I exclaimed, while my best friend was giggling like a hyena. My jaw was still located on the floor somewhere, as my best friend delivered the news of the century. I mean, sure, I knew they were dating. The guy had practically moved onto campus since I gave him her number and he was always with her whenever I was around. Like, literally, I saw him more than I saw the alpha. They spent every waking moment together and I could see how much she cared about him. Hell, she was falling for him faster than I usually cheated on my diet. But going from that to---MATES!Apparently, Michael had asked her to be his mate and she’d said yes. After less than two months of dating. That was a big step for wolves - really BIG! Bigger than getting married for humans. Luckily for werewolves, commitment really wasn’t a problem. We were social animals, more than humans ever could understand
Levi's POV“Her brother?” Mick asked again, just as he got another text.My wolf growled.“That wouldn't surprise me,” I shrugged, trying not to let him see me gritting my teeth. Dylan’s two weeks had long since passed and just as Dina predicted, he didn’t show up. And none of my trackers were able to find even a shred of evidence that he was still alive. Not that I minded. I liked having his sister as a maid. And that wasn’t going to change any time soon. One, because if she was a target, I could keep her safe by keeping her close by. And second, the second Dylan stepped foot back into my territory, I was going to kill him for what he'd done to his sister. My wolf growled in agreement. What kind of man hits a woman?!And his younger sister at that? He was supposed to take care of her but instead---“Have you tried asking her? Perhaps she knows something?” Mick suggested
Levi’s POVShrek! That’s it!She reminded me of that damn cat in that Shrek cartoon! The way she’d always pouted her red lips and made those huge emerald green puppy eyes sparkle in the light. Making her look so innocent and sweet, even my beast had a hard time being mad at her.I groaned in annoyance and leaned back in my chair, knowing I had better things to do than to fantasize about my maid. That girl could make kings grovel at her feet - including yours truly! - and she didn’t even know it. She was so pure and innocent, yet didn't come across as naive or childish. she was just genuinely a really kind and sweet person, with no amount of sass lacking.I tripped my pen repeatedly against my desk, growling more and more annoyed with myself. But no matter how desperately I tried to push her out of my mind, the second thought that entered my mind was about her as well. I felt like she had me whipped
Levi's POV“Don’t fuss about it," I tried. "That’s how I wake up every morning.”She spun around so fast, I think that even the air around her got whiplash. Her face was red as hell and her look could kill ordinary men.I gulped.OK, so--- not my best move? “You know it’s rude to point it out, right?” she barked, narrowing her eyes at me. And while I was the alpha in this situation and had several inches on the raven-haired beauty, I felt about an inch tall all of a sudden.“I was trying to cheer you up,” I confessed, not feeling at all too alpha-ly right then. And all because of a she-wolf? And no comments from my wolf?! Other than the huge grin on his face, hoping she’d been dreaming about us?What was wrong with that dog lately?!“Comparing your morning wood with a girl's wet dream, isn’t cheering her up,” Dina s
Levi’s POVI shut off the alarm but remained in bed for some reason. Usually, my wolf wasn’t a morning wolf--- or ‘any time of day’-wolf actually. My mornings usually started with me having to fight him for control because he wanted to kill the alarm – literally! But not this morning...He was quiet. And for once, I actually felt well-rested. And I’d even slept well.I felt amazing! And it worried me.Was my wolf planning something?I took a deep breath and let my mind wander…I lost control of my wolf yesterday. When I'd seen that son of a bitch on top of Dina, I'd lost it! My wolf surged forward and ripped him off her before I even had a chance to fight him. But I didn’t go on a killing spree like usual. Hell, I hadn't even killed the fucker who'd attacked her. Instead, my wolf had been focused on her. I'd seen the way she gasped for air and I r
Dina’s POV“Dina!”I turned around and saw Alpha Stone leaning against the doorway to his office. The white tee clung to his body perfectly, and his jeans hung loosely around his hips.Goddess, he looked heavenly…“Yes, alpha?” I replied and tried to stop myself from ogling him. But my wolf kept encouraging me to eye-rape our alpha, which made that mission rather impossible. He looked so---He didn’t reply but motioned for me to follow him into his office. But instead of sitting down, he stood by his desk with that irresistible smirk of his. For a second, I wondered if I was in some kind of trouble – or if he’d changed his mind about last night and had decided to punish me. However, to my surprise, he pointed to the artwork I’d made on his wall.It was a small collection of stick figures gathered around a lake, that was the huge patch. On the patch were du
