Dina’s POV
I unpacked some of my stuff and caught up on some of my homework. Or at least that’s how I intended on spending my day when I realized that I had to get to campus, or else I wouldn’t be able to finish my project. Since I was broke, I was dependent on the supplies they provided for us on campus.
I got downstairs and although it felt weird as shit, I picked up one of the car keys hanging in the kitchen. I even stood swaying back and forth, debating whether or not I should go upstairs to tell Alpha Stone that I was leaving, but decided against it.
As I walked by the plastered wall, I made a mental note to bring home some charcoal pencils. I already had a general idea of what I wanted to do with the patches and grinned. Well, if Alpha Stone didn’t like it, then maybe it would motivate him to buy some paint…
Luckily, I didn’t need a GPS, because I had a good sense of direction, even if this was my first time driving to campus. I guess that’s a natural thing with all werewolves, but it used to make my brother jealous. Actually, a lot of things made him jealous of my wolf. Mine was bigger, stronger and her senses were twice as strong as any of my family members. I didn’t think much of it when I first shifted – my mother was the same, with a wolf almost a full foot taller than my dad’s. My mother said that my wolf was special and, as a reminder, she gave me a tattoo on my back that could only be seen in the moonlight. Pretty cool, although I have no idea how she did it. She always said she’d tell me when I got older, but…
She wasn’t there when I got older…
I stopped shifting after my parents died. At least in front of Dylan, because he didn’t want people to know that his little sister’s wolf was bigger than his. And when something bugged him, he made sure, I knew about it. And so I stopped shifting in front of anybody so I would get left alone. But that didn’t change the fact that I loved my sandy brown wolf just as much as any she-wolf around. We’d take long walks in the moonlight, just the two of us. I let her roam free, hunt, and do as she pleased, before darting through the woods as if our lives depended upon it. She was really amazing, and I couldn’t have wished for a better companion in life.
The day was, as usual, pretty uneventful. I finished up my project and managed to get back just before 5. I felt like patting myself on the back and was actually looking forward to making dinner. Perhaps if I found something easy to make, he wouldn’t notice I actually sucked.
But because apparently the Moon Goddess hates me – or has a sick sense of humor – things didn’t go as I planned…
I opened every single cabinet this house had, and not a single one of them contained actual food! Snacks, cookies, cereal, and oatmeal. The freezer was empty, and the fridge was no better. There was a single carton of milk and a box of eggs. I prayed to the gods above and luckily there was flour and sugar in the pantry, but nothing else.
“At least I can make pancakes in the morning,” I muttered, although that didn’t help me much in my current situation. “ OK! Think fast! What do I do…?”
I had an idea. It was kinda cheating, but this was my ass on the line! I quickly ruffled through some drawers and--- Bingo! Take-out menus! I picked out one that looked decent and within my price range. I called the number and ordered whatever looked to be meat for my boss and a Hawaii pizza for myself.
Yeah, I’m that kind of girl!
Sue me!
I hung up and watched the clock. 17.15. The man said it would be 40 minutes. I nervously paced back and forth in front of the front door. But that didn’t magically conjure the deliveryman, so I went back to the kitchen and paced there. In the meantime, my thoughts ran wild: Was Alpha Stone going to fire me? Was he going to punish me? Damn, why hadn’t I checked the kitchen BEFORE I left? If he fired me, could I go back? To my parents’ house? I guess I could! I mean, we owned it after our parents…
I gasped, as a sudden thought hit me: what if that’s why Dylan suddenly kicked us out? He sold the house?! No! No, that-that couldn’t be it, could it? No! I remember that somewhere it said that we both had to be of age before we would be able to sell it…
“What are you doing?!”
I shrieked when the deep voice suddenly sounded behind me. I jumped around, watching Alpha Stone's tall figure leaning against the door frame, towering over me way more than necessary. His face was void of any emotion and his deep voice didn’t give anything away either.
“A-Alpha!” I gulped and almost choked on my own spit. My mouth was dry as sand and my heart had long since said its farewell. “I-I---”
He didn’t say anything; he just crossed his arms over his chest, flexing his muscles in the process, and gazed up at the clock on the wall. Subconsciously, I followed his line of sight. 18.01. My eyes widened and I felt a knot forming in my stomach.
FUCK!
Was he mad? Was he going to kick me out? Would Rita take me in at such short notice? And damn--- Why didn’t I notice those biceps before? I mean--- woof!
He looked like he was about to say something when the doorbell finally rang.
“Just on time!” I sighed in relief and let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I grabbed my wallet and practically ran to the door, almost shoving Alpha Stone out of the way.
But with my grace, I slipped on the doormat and ran my head into the door.
“Fuck!” I snapped before ripping the door open, meeting a rather stunned delivery man. “Keep the change!” I said, trying to smile, and giving him what he asked. Quickly, I took the food and turned to the alpha, who hadn’t moved from the doorway.
I quickly ran to the kitchen – again, almost running Alpha Stone over. But he didn’t seem to mind. In fact, he was observing me, without me knowing it. And noticed everything I did while setting the table. Had I looked closely, I would even have noticed that my actions somewhat humored him…
“Dinner’s ready!” I beamed at him but was met with a still unimpressed expression.
“That’s not dinner,” he said and pointed at the food on the table. “That’s a dry steak with overcooked noodles and fake Italian food.”
So, he didn’t seem pissed, but I was not about to take any chances with this guy…
“I’m so sorry, alpha,” I quickly apologized, trying to find the right words to explain this. I wasn’t exactly thrilled about the situation, but considering the alternative – having to quit school so I could work to pay for my own place…
“But there was no food in the kitchen and I kinda forgot to check before I left, and I kinda panicked, so this is kinda an emergency Plan B, but I promise tomorrow I’ll make it up to you!”
He blinked a couple of times when my rambling was done. The only hint of emotion was his eyebrow, which was slightly shot up above the other.
“You ‘kinda’ a lot of things, ha?” he more than stated than asked.
“Kinda,” I muttered and pouted; a nervous habit of mine. “Sorry.”
“Come on,” he sighed and pushed himself off the doorframe, taking a seat across from me. “Let’s eat.”
“Are you going to punish me?” I asked nervously, sitting down across from him.
“I guess I could take it off your pay,” he shrugged, clearly not giving a damn, and cut into the steak.
“That won’t be necessary,” I said, feeling a bit proud. At least I wasn’t one of those people who took advantage of other people’s money… “I paid for it with my own money.”
“What?!” Alpha suddenly growled and my pride quickly died. Well, at least now I knew what he was feeling: he was angry! He mumbled something under his breath that I didn’t catch when I didn’t answer immediately.
“How much?” he scowled, fishing out his phone.
“Y-you don’t have to…”, but before I finished, my phone bibbed, notifying me that I had just received a money transfer.
“I’m a man and I’ll be damned before I let a woman pay for a meal,” he growled, angrily digging into his steak again. “Especially in my own house!”
I tried to find something to say, but words didn’t seem right, right now. Especially since the man in question looked like a volcano ready to explode…
“I’m sorry, Alpha,” I said, feeling my cheek glow red. Why I was embarrassed was beyond me, but the second he glanced at me, I felt small and ashamed. I really was a lousy maid… “I should have checked the pantry before I left.”
I gulped, waiting for his verdict. He looked away as if trying to clear his mind. He took a deep breath and had just opened his mouth to answer me when something suddenly caught his eye.
“Pineapple?!” he exclaimed and frowned in disgust. I followed his gaze, and true enough, it was my favorite pizza that had his pants in a twist…
“It’s how I like my pizza,” I found myself scoffing and without taking my eyes off him, took a huge bite; almost challenging him to say something. “Sue me!”
“I should,” he muttered, scrunching his nose. “That’s a sin against Italian food.”
“I live boldly,” I smirked back, taking another bite out of the delicious slice of heaven.
“Women,” he grumbled and shook his head before digging back into his steak.
“To be fair, I am one of a kind,” I grinned, earning another glance from the alpha. “My dad was a pack Tracker and later he became an Elite, so he lived every day like it could be his last.”
“Elite Shaw,” the alpha muttered and nodded to my surprise. “I remember him. Dylan used to brag about his dad all the time. I also met him a couple of years ago. He was a good man. I’m sorry for your loss.”
I nodded. I didn’t really know how to reply to that, but I did feel my heart swell with pride, knowing that he knew my father. Even my wolf puffed out her chest at the mention of our dad. I wasn’t a particular daddy’s girl, but I fondly remembered the times when he returned home. He would spend every minute of every day telling us how much he loved us. He kissed mom at every opportunity and could spend hours listening to our "life or death" teenage problems. Things that now didn't really seem like such a big deal after all...
I really missed him!
I missed them all…
“How do you know my brother?” I asked, so I didn’t start to cry in front of Alpha Stone.
“I hung out with a lot of the wrong crowd---,” he started, but was cut off, when the door swung open and the scent of a powerful wolf entered the hallway.
“LEVI!!!” a deep, velvet-smooth voice bellowed and heavy footsteps could be heard stomping toward the kitchen. “Levi, come on! You know it’s Sunday and Mom’s going to kill you, if---”
Suddenly, a tall, slender man appeared in the doorway. Or at least slender compared to Alpha Stone, but for a werewolf, he was of average build. His hair was pitch black and his eyes were an electric baby blue color, that could easily sweep any girl off her feet. Including yours truly once upon a time…!
He stopped dead in his tracks before eyeing me and the alpha at the table. Shock was written all over his face.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I---” he stuttered before he finally recognized me, and his eyes widened in shock. “Dina?!”
I grinned.
“Michael,” I greeted him back and enjoyed the puzzled look on my ex-boyfriend’s face.
Dina’s POV“Wh-what are you doing here?!” Michael stuttered, gawking at me as if he’d just seen a ghost.“I, erm, work---here,” I shrugged, not knowing how else to explain the situation. Especially the way the alpha kept shooting glances between me and Michael. Did I say something wrong?“I see you know my Beta,” he gruffly commented. I simply nodded, not understanding why he would be angry about that. Wasn’t anyone supposed to know that I lived here? That's when it finally hit me and I paled. Shit! Of course, no one was supposed to know. The alpha was unmated! And I was unmated. And his maid! Holy crape, that was going to spin so many juicy rumors, I was already turning red just thinking about it.Fuck, I was such an airhead sometimes!
Dina’s POV“See ya!”Michael’s voice suddenly entered downstairs, before the door slammed again. A second later, Alpha Stone showed up in the kitchen. I must honestly admit, I was a bit nervous. I mean, I’d known the alpha for less than a day, and I was already screwing up--- everything!Perhaps it was best that I just moved out…“Did I---?” I asked, swallowing the lump in my throat, as he sat down again. “Did I do something wrong?”“No,” he said casually and picked his utensils back up. “I informed him about your brother.”“Oh,” I said, not really knowing what to feel about that. I was relieved that there wouldn’t be some weird rumors about me and the alpha--- right away, anyway... But I was sure they were going to come in the future. I also felt immensely ashamed that I was put in this situation because
Dina's POVDid he want food poisoning or something? Was there some upcoming alpha exam he needed to be excused from?“I don’t know,” he continued, still not looking up, and shifted in his seat. Like he was getting uncomfortable. Then he suddenly looked up and his dark eyes met mine. “You want me to leave?”“Take me with you,” I exclaimed and dramatically leaned over the table, reaching out for him. His eyes suspiciously followed my hand, before meeting my eyes again. I laughed when I noticed his perplexed expression. As if he was having a bad case of constipation.“I’m joking. Relax,” I grinned and sat back up, trying to get the constipation image out of my head again. “But seriously, you don’t have to if you’d rather be with your family.”To be honest, I was trying to give him a way out. He probably just felt like he had to be here, to be a gentlem
Dina’s POV“You got a job,” Rita asked, and I could feel my cheeks burning up with every word she spoke. “As the alpha’s maid?”Her grin was so broad at this point, I all but knew what the Grand Canyon looked like.“Yes,” I muttered, hoping the earth would open and swallow me whole. The sexual undertone in Rita’s voice and the scheming glint in her eyes was just about too much for my burning cheeks. “I live there too,” I confessed, making my best friend's grin grow to a full-blown suggesting smirk. I sighed. “For practical reasons--- Rita! Why must you turn everything into something sexual?”At that, she threw her head back and laughed. Rita was one of those gorgeous, short brunettes who could rock a miniskirt and 8-inch heels, just as fabulously as an over-sized painted T-shirt and dungarees. And yeah, she was also that bitch that looked absolutely stunning in
Dina's POVJosh was looking confused as he glanced between me and the other two people present.“No one!” I groaned. Was it "Let's make the maid’s life miserable"-day and I just missed the memo?“Oh, don’t fret,” Josh winked, and his golden brown eyes met mine. “I’ll let you seduce me anytime you want.”“Geez, thanks!” I muttered, and hopelessly let my head hang.“Beta Danvers,” Josh exclaimed, as he finally recognized Michael. Although he was the beta, the beta and alpha didn't intermingle much with the "average" life of their pack members. They were all about securing the territory for our wolves to shift and run safely and keeping it safe from other packs or rogues. All pack members paid a sort of "tax" for the upkeep and running of the pack, while the alpha and his enforcers trained and risked their lives to keep them safe. There was also a pack house
Dina’s POVI hauled the laundry out of the alpha’s room and kicked the basket down the hall. Luckily, I’d gotten used to his dirty socks laying all over the floor--- and yes, the man may be an alpha, but he had terrible aim! I smirked, as my wolf quickly pushed inappropriate thoughts into my mind, all about how his aim probably wasn’t off ALL the time.Horny wolf!I shook my head and went into the bathroom, picking up and dropping all the used towels into the basket, before collecting my own laundry and throwing it in as well. I’d been living with Alpha Stone for just about 3 weeks now. To absolutely no one’s surprise, my brother was a no-show at the two-week mark, but true to his word, Alpha Stone didn’t kick me out. He wasn’t home much, but I did see him around breakfast and dinner. Something I very quickly found myself getting very attached to. I even found myself missing him when he we
Dina's POVAlthough today had been a complete disaster, I sort of liked laundry day. It was just filling the washing machine and the dryer, alternatively, and hanging everything else up. In between, I could study, which I did a lot these days. And I found myself being very productive…The doorbell brought me out of my thoughts. I frowned, wondering who it might be. Michael didn’t use the bell (the guy barely knew how to knock!) and the mailman just dropped off his package at the door. I think he was scared of the alpha, which really wasn’t all that surprising: Alpha Stone was one seriously scary guy…I opened it and, to my surprise, there was a young, pretty blond with huge blue eyes smiling brightly at me. She looked small and innocent but for some reason, had my wolf instantly on alert.“Hey!” she beamed and held out a hand to me. “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Angela, Michael
WARNING: This chapter contains a scene of assault!Dina’s POVMy brain literally felt like mush and was about to drop out of my ears. I groaned and let my head rest against my art table. We were about 2/3 done with this project when Josh and Sherly – another one of my study buddies – suddenly started to argue about the assignment. I happened to agree with Josh on the direction we should take, which resulted in Sherly leaving in a rage. Now it was just me and Josh left and because he was an IT nerd and this was a practical project, I was basically stuck with all the work now.I sighed. We had finished the blueprints and now was just the modeling left. I had been using the school’s 3D printer (which was why Josh was a great help) for all the parts, but unfortunately, Sheril had left with the instructions and now she was refusing to pick up her phone. I just needed to make sure I had all the pieces be
Levi's POVWe ran towards our borders and within seconds he picked up a couple of rogues. He quickly turned his anger on them and hunted them down. I didn’t even try to hold him back. Hell, I couldn't even if I wanted to. In his blood-lusted state, there was nothing I could do to control him. He tore through them like a savage animal, but once he was done, he’d finally calmed down enough for me to take over and shifted back.We were quiet for a moment.Usually, when my wolf went on a rampage like this one, I would give him hell after. I hated him for being the monster he was, but---Not tonight…Tonight this was on me just as much as him. I hadn't even tried to fight him but had relished the release of his outrage. Because no matter what, I'd felt every bit as angry, frustrated, and scared as he was. I didn't understand it. And part of me feared that more than anything...I waited until my breathi
Levi’s POVI hate negotiating treaties! It’s not like the Black Lunar Pack needed them. My pack was strong in itself and I really didn’t get the point of “exchanging training techniques”. My Deltas had that down to the tooth and our Fighters and Elites were the best in the land, even beating the Royal Pack at the last "friendly" competition. I didn’t need their stupid fighters to teach my pack anything! The Black Lunar Pack didn’t need anyone else! But I wasn’t stupid.I knew that alliance meant no fighting and no fighting meant no wars or hostile takeovers. Most of the time anyway! So, I played my part in the stupid meeting with the Council nagging and bickering me to accept deal after deal.As if I was born yesterday…I knew Black Lunar was growing more powerful than anyone liked - especially the Royal Pack. I’d already expanded
Dina's POVMy heart dropped to the pit of my guts and suddenly I felt like throwing up. I hadn’t seen him in over two weeks and, honestly, I could do for another year without seeing his sorry ass.“What do you want?” I asked harshly while trying to fight every instinct in my body that screamed bloody murder. I was terrified but I refused to let fear control me. Not that anyone could blame me - I think. The last time I saw him, he’d tried to rape me. I wanted to move closer to Rita, but instead, I stood tall, glaring at him with everything I had. I was not going to let him see how he’d hurt me. I would never give him, Dylan, or any other man out there the pleasure of thinking they broke me.I would never give in…“I just---wanted to---,” he stuttered and nervously scratched the back of his neck. That was when I noticed that he looked like someone had used him as a chew toy and his skin looke
Dina’s POV“You and Michael?” I exclaimed, while my best friend was giggling like a hyena. My jaw was still located on the floor somewhere, as my best friend delivered the news of the century. I mean, sure, I knew they were dating. The guy had practically moved onto campus since I gave him her number and he was always with her whenever I was around. Like, literally, I saw him more than I saw the alpha. They spent every waking moment together and I could see how much she cared about him. Hell, she was falling for him faster than I usually cheated on my diet. But going from that to---MATES!Apparently, Michael had asked her to be his mate and she’d said yes. After less than two months of dating. That was a big step for wolves - really BIG! Bigger than getting married for humans. Luckily for werewolves, commitment really wasn’t a problem. We were social animals, more than humans ever could understand
Levi's POV“Her brother?” Mick asked again, just as he got another text.My wolf growled.“That wouldn't surprise me,” I shrugged, trying not to let him see me gritting my teeth. Dylan’s two weeks had long since passed and just as Dina predicted, he didn’t show up. And none of my trackers were able to find even a shred of evidence that he was still alive. Not that I minded. I liked having his sister as a maid. And that wasn’t going to change any time soon. One, because if she was a target, I could keep her safe by keeping her close by. And second, the second Dylan stepped foot back into my territory, I was going to kill him for what he'd done to his sister. My wolf growled in agreement. What kind of man hits a woman?!And his younger sister at that? He was supposed to take care of her but instead---“Have you tried asking her? Perhaps she knows something?” Mick suggested
Levi’s POVShrek! That’s it!She reminded me of that damn cat in that Shrek cartoon! The way she’d always pouted her red lips and made those huge emerald green puppy eyes sparkle in the light. Making her look so innocent and sweet, even my beast had a hard time being mad at her.I groaned in annoyance and leaned back in my chair, knowing I had better things to do than to fantasize about my maid. That girl could make kings grovel at her feet - including yours truly! - and she didn’t even know it. She was so pure and innocent, yet didn't come across as naive or childish. she was just genuinely a really kind and sweet person, with no amount of sass lacking.I tripped my pen repeatedly against my desk, growling more and more annoyed with myself. But no matter how desperately I tried to push her out of my mind, the second thought that entered my mind was about her as well. I felt like she had me whipped
Levi's POV“Don’t fuss about it," I tried. "That’s how I wake up every morning.”She spun around so fast, I think that even the air around her got whiplash. Her face was red as hell and her look could kill ordinary men.I gulped.OK, so--- not my best move? “You know it’s rude to point it out, right?” she barked, narrowing her eyes at me. And while I was the alpha in this situation and had several inches on the raven-haired beauty, I felt about an inch tall all of a sudden.“I was trying to cheer you up,” I confessed, not feeling at all too alpha-ly right then. And all because of a she-wolf? And no comments from my wolf?! Other than the huge grin on his face, hoping she’d been dreaming about us?What was wrong with that dog lately?!“Comparing your morning wood with a girl's wet dream, isn’t cheering her up,” Dina s
Levi’s POVI shut off the alarm but remained in bed for some reason. Usually, my wolf wasn’t a morning wolf--- or ‘any time of day’-wolf actually. My mornings usually started with me having to fight him for control because he wanted to kill the alarm – literally! But not this morning...He was quiet. And for once, I actually felt well-rested. And I’d even slept well.I felt amazing! And it worried me.Was my wolf planning something?I took a deep breath and let my mind wander…I lost control of my wolf yesterday. When I'd seen that son of a bitch on top of Dina, I'd lost it! My wolf surged forward and ripped him off her before I even had a chance to fight him. But I didn’t go on a killing spree like usual. Hell, I hadn't even killed the fucker who'd attacked her. Instead, my wolf had been focused on her. I'd seen the way she gasped for air and I r
Dina’s POV“Dina!”I turned around and saw Alpha Stone leaning against the doorway to his office. The white tee clung to his body perfectly, and his jeans hung loosely around his hips.Goddess, he looked heavenly…“Yes, alpha?” I replied and tried to stop myself from ogling him. But my wolf kept encouraging me to eye-rape our alpha, which made that mission rather impossible. He looked so---He didn’t reply but motioned for me to follow him into his office. But instead of sitting down, he stood by his desk with that irresistible smirk of his. For a second, I wondered if I was in some kind of trouble – or if he’d changed his mind about last night and had decided to punish me. However, to my surprise, he pointed to the artwork I’d made on his wall.It was a small collection of stick figures gathered around a lake, that was the huge patch. On the patch were du
