Nari Montgomery
Standing in front of the full-length mirror, I twirled excitedly in my birthday dress, admiring the soft folds of its fabric and the beautiful shimmer it makes as light touches the dress. The high waisted garment is close-fitting around the bust and tapers off loosely from the waist to my ankles.
Today is my nineteenth birthday and tonight will be the night where the Goddess will reveal I am the chosen mate for the Alpha of Bayswater pack, Romeo Price.
I giggled at the thought of finally being mated to my best friend and boyfriend, the thought filling my heart with happiness and making me giddy. I eyed my twin sister slinking at the doorway behind me, trying to be obscure.
“Alaia!” I called out, inviting her to join me in the room.
She looked up at me warily, slowly entering the room. Like me, she was also wearing a dress, but it’s not as elaborate or shiny as mine. Unlike me, Alaia prefers to be out of the spotlight, lurking in the shadows. Thus, tonight’s celebration is about me, and me only.
Not that I minded. My parents have always preferred me over her. Between the two of us, I am the more powerful twin, my magical powers exceed a normal witch and my dear twin sister, adorable as she is, has always been mediocre. However, her powers are growing and I can see the aura of her powers, hues or red, violet and green glowing around her.
I opened my palms, my fingers tingling in anticipation as I pulled her aura towards me, the colors ebbing from around her towards my fingers, fueling my strength. I gave a small feline smile as I saw her shoulders droop and she fell on the sofa, her face appearing confused and disoriented.
I am stealing my twin’s magical powers just like a leech and she doesn’t have a clue about it.
That is how I managed to become the greatest witch in Bayswater. I have been usurping my sister’s powers since I was five years old, since I learnt how to read and this power sucking spell was the first spell I memorised. I have always been obscure, stealing only a fraction of her powers so that she doesn’t notice. At most, she will feel lethargic and a short nap will rejuvenate her.
Unfortunately for me, my time as a power leech is due because once my sister learns how to master the protective spells that she’s currently learning, I will not be able to pilfer from her anymore.
Thus, this is where my mate, Romeo Price comes in. Since he’s taken over the role as Alpha, his strength and powers have grown by leaps and bounds. I salivate over the unlimited access to his powers, he would be able to give me way more compared to what my sister has.
“Can’t you believe our birthday is tonight? Are you excited, sis?” I gushed at Alaia, who is now slumped at the sofa, her face pale, her eyes drooping.
“Uhuh.” Alaia replies thickly, her speech blurred, her head resting at the back of the sofa.
“You look tired, sis.” I blinked, as if suddenly realizing the state that Alaia was in.
Quickly I stepped away from the mirror and poured her a drink from the jug on the table. The drink was laced with an enhancement spell which would allow anyone to feel refreshed after sipping a glass of the water. I handed the glass to her and told her to drink.
“I’m excited for Romeo to be my mate tonight! I really do hope we get to fulfill the prophecy between the black onyx wolf and the ruby witch.” I continued my monologue, chattering excitedly as I walked back to the mirror.
Unbeknownst to Romeo, I am the descendant of the ruby witch as foretold by the prophecy and the legend has been passed from generation to generation. So far, none of my ancestors have managed to fulfill the prophecy and the stone has been missing for years, leading to the discontinuation of the royal family.
With my father’s help, we will find the ruby stone, reinstate our position as the royal family and fulfill the prophecy. As Romeo’s mate, I will not only be the Queen of Wiccans, I would also be the Queen to the Kingdom of Werewolves.
Alaia has finally recovered from her lethargy, colour appearing to her cheeks as she sat up straighter in the sofa.
I smiled smugly, my spells and potions are always very potent and they work very well because they are infused with my aura. However, that causes me to deplete my strength significantly and requires me to continuously tap on to another witches’ power. And the power sucking spell, although it is very effective, is not something that I can use often. Most witches have protective spells around them and I cannot risk exposing myself, thus I usually leech off Alaia and those whom I know do not have the protective spells surrounding their aura.
“There are several flaws to your theory.” She proclaims matter of factly, blinking away the last remnants of fatigue.
I raised my eyebrows at her statement.
“Firstly, we do not have the ruby stone which is a necessity to discern the guardian wolf of the black onyx stone. Without the ruby stone, we would just be clueless witches. And secondly, based on the prophecy, the blood moon is supposed to unite the witch and the wolf. In case you haven’t noticed, the blood moon is tomorrow night while our birthday is tonight.”

I watched as Nari’s face contorted with fury, something that I am used to seeing for most of my life. My twin sister almost gets everything she wants and right now what she wants is the Alpha of Bayswater pack as her mate. Which is quite silly if you ask me, because the guy is practically a slave to the Moon Goddess and is waiting for his destined mate, but right now Nari doesn’t seem interested in what I have to say.
“Romeo. Price. Is. My. Mate.” Nari stated coldly, anger reverberating from her in waves as she looked at me. Then her face clears, looking terrifyingly calm, her wrath had majestically disappeared and replaced by tranquility. It was as if the angry expression was never there in the first place.
“Those are just semantics, sister.” Nari continued, her voice taking on an alluring quality as her eyes glazed, most probably conjuring visions of Romeo in her mind.
“What is important is that he will be my mate tonight.” She wistfully continued, her eyes half-closed, as if in a trance.
I left Nari to her musings and went to check on the hall where we’re hosting the party tonight. A number of our witch friends have been invited, they’re mostly Nari’s friends because she’s the popular one and werewolves from the Bayswater pack will be coming too.
The birthday party is about to start soon. The baker was on the stage, placing layers of cakes and icing on top of each other and making finishing touches to the icing. Feeling curious, I walked up to the stage to see the baker and the birthday cake up close.
As I walked up the stage, something glinted on the wooden floor, catching my eye. Six coloured stones were placed on the floor, each stone on the pointy edges of a hexagon star. This looks highly suspicious. Is someone planning something bad against Nari?
I paused, narrowing my eyes as I focused to identify if there is any magic on the stones. Slowly the colours begin to form and I could see threads of black, gray and silver interlacing with each other as they form the lines of a hexagon star.
An immobility spell? My heart palpitated at the thought of someone wanting something evil to befall my sister. I searched the hall with my eyes, trying to distinguish if there are any other spells but found none. So far, the only spell that I can see is the one on the stage.
Should I break the spell?
I shook my head. That would be dangerous. Whoever made this spell will be at the party tonight and I need to find out who this person is. I left the stones untouched and devised a plan, one that involves saving Nari and catching the culprit in action tonight.
I briskly left the stage and retreated to my room, my hands sifting through the small library that I have, trying to find a spell book for a freeing spell. The very least I can do is protect my sister from any harm, especially tonight, since she’s so hell bent on making Romeo her mate.
I hope Romeo knows how lucky he is to have Nari as his mate.
Hi! I know this may come as a surprise but Nari has a twin! Hope you guys enjoyed reading the chapter. Do give me some gems and five star reviews, thank you! xx F.A.R. aka fabulouslyawesomereads Ps: I'll try to post daily but if I can't there should be a new chapter every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Romeo adjusted his cufflinks as they approached the front door of Nari’s residence, an ill-suffering sigh escaping his lips. He hates wearing a tuxedo, the garment is too restrictive and a pain to get out of if he needs to shift. Yet here he is, wearing one just so that he can appease Nari. “Looking good tonight, Alpha. Our future Luna will be happy to see you.”There was a wolfish grin on Arch’s face and as the biggest player in Bayswater, he is probably thinking about the witches that he’s going to bed tonight. They entered the hall and Romeo’s eyes zoomed towards Nari, her coral dress shimmering under the lights. His heartbeat turned erratic as their eyes met and his mouth grew dry. When did Nari become so beautiful?
Romeo was standing on the raised platform, his body frozen as Nari floated menacingly in front of him, chanting in a voice that is not hers but a deep, gravelly, and ominous sound. The voice rang loudly across the hall. “You are MINE!” Her eyes were glowing strangely, threads of black mist swirling and growing behind her floating figure. Romeo’s eyes darted wildly, trying to find a way to escape. No matter how hard he tried moving his legs, they remained rooted to the floor. Alaia gasped, her eyes rounding in alarm as realization dawned upon her. The coloured stones and hexagon star which she discovered earlier was not meant for Nari. It was meant for somebody else. It was meant for Romeo who Nari sees as her
Bayswater Beach Annabelle was walking back from the beach when she heard a noise that suspiciously sounded like a groan. Her ears twitched and her head bobbed to the left, from where she presumed the sound came from. She stilled, her eyes squinting towards the tall grass which bordered the beach, her ears trying to distinguish what she heard from the natural sounds associated with the beach. She thought she heard another groan but it was fainter. Could someone be in trouble? She thought to herself. Sundown is fast approaching as the final traces of the sun dipping into the horizon. On the opposite side, the moon has risen, and very soon, red and orange hues will appear when the earth’s moon is encapsulated in a total lunar ec
The next morning, Annabelle woke up with a start. Something heavy was pressing against her chest and making it difficult for her to breathe. Alarmed, her eyelids flew open, only to discover that Chucky had rested his paw and half of his head on her chest. The dog weighs a ton and Annabelle swears she almost suffocated in her sleep. If I’m not careful, Chucky is going to be the death of me, Annabelle thought to herself, questioning her decision bringing the dog home last night. Chucky was supposed to sleep in the kitchen but she found the dog is not very good at obeying instructions. He ended up lying by the foot of her bed and somewhere in the night Chucky must have crawled into bed with her. She slowly lifted Chucky’s paw and nozzle, gently placin
Bayswater Packhouse "Have you found Romeo?" Richard Price, the former King of Werewolves eyed his second born gravely. He was seated behind the Alpha's desk, a position he had relinquished to Romeo five years ago. "We have not been successful, Father." Roman replied, his expression sombre, mirroring his father's. Seconds later, Arch, Trav and Jughead entered the office, their faces equally grim. Richard observed the four men, the only ones in the pack who knew that his firstborn is missing. Each one of them had spent the whole day yesterday combing areas near the borders between Bayswater and Crimson Bay but have not been successful. Whatever scent that was left of Romeo had been carried away by the wind. “Have you tried mind-linking with Romeo?” Richard Price asked, his gaze solemn and thoughtful. The air was heavy with trepidation, the possibility that Romeo might be captured by Nari was not lost on everyo
Two hours after returning from the beach, Annabelle was driving her car to Bayswater town with the windows down. Chucky was on the passenger seat, his head half protruding out of the window, pink tongue lolling adorably from his gaping jaw. She had music blaring from the speakers, singing off-tune to a rock song by Green Day, her blonde hair flying wildly. They needed to replenish their rations and she also wanted the vet to take a look at Chucky’s injuries. The laceration on Chucky’s side had magically disappeared this morning and the dog is surprisingly active, making her wonder if she had imagined his injuries when she brought him home yesterday. Ten minutes later, she parked her car in an empty bay in front of the veterinarian’s office. She opened the door and walked in, Chuckyfollowing closely behind her footsteps like a shadow. From he
To Annabelle’s surprise, the four strangers paused directly in front her. Her pulse jumped, not in fear, rather in nervous anticipation. Instead of intimidating her, their athletic figure and rugged looks made her heart flutter. At five feet six inches, Annabelle did not consider herself tiny but the guys were almost a foot taller, causing her to crane her neck to meet their gazes. One of them took a step forward and she drooled internally. He is possibly the most gorgeous man that she has ever met. “Hello. I don’t know your name but I am sure it’s as beautiful as you are.” The stranger gave her a dazzling smile and she couldn’t help but return with one of her own. “I'm Archimedes and you can call me Arch.” Arch had smooth expresso skin, almond shaped brown eyes, full lips and a wide, engaging smile. He had a deep baritone voice, two dimples peeking at her as he smiled and boyish good looks. His eyes flickered with int
“What the hell, Chucky?!” Annabelle screeched after Chucky had removed himself from Arch. Without even the slightest remorse, Chucky huffed and turned his face away, sulking. “I am very disappointed with you!” She wagged her finger at the wolf, anger lacing her words. Chucky almost killed Arch and luckily they were there to stop him. He growled angrily in response, perhaps defending himself but Annabelle didn’t speak wolf, so she ignored him. She marched quickly to her car and slammed the door behind her, deciding it would be best for her to return to the beach house. She was putting the gears in reverse when Roman suddenly opened the passenger door and deposited Chucky in the seat. Apparently, Chucky the wolf with anger management issues is going back home wit
Kingdom of Draconia Annabelle Aoki Ahsan took us back to his kingdom this morning and since then he hasn't left his palace. He’s locked in a meeting with his advisors and warriors, drawing names and allocating dragon shifters and fae warriors into different groups. I on the other hand returned to the mansion and occupied my time by checking on the books and paraphernalia that were brought back from the beach house. The servants had dusted and arranged everything systematically in my new library. The space is larger compared to the underground library in the beach house. And with light spilling from tall windows on one side of the room, it's also airy and bright. I am satisfied with how everything turned out. Books are sorted based on categories and titles on one side of the room, while runes and magical items properly arranged and cataloged on the shelves at the other side of the room. A large oak table flanked by ten chairs dominated the center of the room. Placed haphazardly arou
Annabelle Aoki I would have to say the meeting among the stone guardians tonight went surprisingly well, considering we all barely knew each other. I wasn't surprised to find some odd looks thrown at me when Ahsan mentioned that he had a mate before, all of which I blatantly ignored. It's not as if I didn't know about it. He's made the fact known to me since the very beginning. However, with the exception of telling me that his mate is dead, centuries before I was born, Ahsan never mentioned anything else about the late fae princess to me. And I've never asked either, because it's not my business to know. After the meeting ended, Ahsan walked me to my room, a short distance from where we had the meeting, and left soon after. He told me needed to get back to his room where his advisors are currently waiting. They have to discuss their next course of action once we return to the Kingdom of Draconia. Feeling tired and sleepy, I quickly entered the bathroom, getting myself ready for
Romeo Price My eyes roamed the figures crowding the small living area adjacent to my private quarters. Dimitri, Gisela, Annabelle, and Ahsan were seated on the sofa around me. While standing at the back of the room were Roman, Arch, Trav, and Jughead. We were gathered for a meeting among the royal stone guardians, the first I've ever attended. Like Annabelle, most of the stone guardians prefer to keep to themselves, and rarely would we interact and establish close friendships with each other. Except perhaps, me and Dimitri. Some might say me and Dimitri are an anomaly compared to the other stone guardians. I used to consider the two of us as good friends or comrades, but that ended when he withheld information of my mate's engagement to the Dragon King. Dimitri made me look like a fool. I had planned for the meeting to be held at one of the bigger spaces, we had many meeting rooms in the palace but Ahsan requested a smaller chamber, one that is protected against magic. The wall
Richard's funeral was graced with blue skies and white tufted clouds, and despite it being the middle of autumn, the weather was sunny and balmy, as if angels had opened up the gates of heaven to welcome the late Alpha King into their midst. The event was held beautifully, the atmosphere calm and reverent. Various bouquets and flower wreaths of different shapes and sizes were placed near the palace gates, making it appear as if the grounds were colorfully bathed in flowers. Flags were hung at half-mast, roads in the city devoid of trafficas shapeshifters from various regions and states lined up the main road from the palace to the royal mausoleum, grieving for the loss of their former king. We returned to the palace to offer our condolences after the procession was over. A somber atmosphere hung in the air, at odds with the castle which was usually bustling with activities. In a few hours, guests and nobles will be readying to leave, now that Richard has been l
The boys doggedly followed me to my room after my scuffle with Dimitri. His betrayal stung me, more than I cared to admit. I thought he was my friend, or at the very least, we have formed a relationship based on trust and respect but it seems I thought wrong. I was a bloody fool to have trusted him. "Annabelle is engaged to King Ahsan?" "What's going on between you and Annabelle?" "Did you know this about Annabelle?" "I thought Annabelle was with you, man." Just as I thought, the questions spewed out of the boys' mouths right after we entered my room. I glowered at them but to no avail. Instead, they returned my stare, Jughead and Roman even had the audacity to roll their eyes. In front of everyone else, they would be on their best behavior, bowing and listening to my every word but when we're alone, Goddess, they're annoying. These boys have known me for almost my whole life. "We are not leaving unt
I pulled her in for one last kiss, light and soft, my lips lingering over hers for a while before we separated. And just like that, my first and most probably the last date with Annabelle is over. I folded the picnic mat while Annabelle returned the leftover food and wine back into the picnic basket. We were both silent as we strolled hand in hand and when the palace came into view, she snatched her hand away. In the absence of her touch, I felt bereft, lonely, new cracks appearing on the surface of my already broken heart. An unfortunate reminder of how the rest of my life will feel like. Separated from my true mate and alone. "Your Highness, the guests are here." Alfred, the royal butler met us halfway and led us towards the front steps, where a silver Rolls Royce was waiting. Behind it were several SUVs, all in uniform black paint and heavily tinted windows. Mum, Uncle Reynold, Jughead, Arch, Roman, and Trav were already waiting on the step
Lux Lupus Romeo Price "I'm proud of you, son." After the Alphas dinner, Dad's words replayed themselves relentlessly in my twisted mind, over and over again like a broken record. How could he be proud of me when he is dead because of me? Dad had pushed me out of Sebastian's way and substituted himself. He bloody sacrificed himself so that I would live. I. Killed. My. Dad. I am the reason he is dead. I could feel myself spiraling into the darkness, my vision replaying the way Dad's eyes had lost their luster as life extinguished from within him, the screams of pain from Mom and Uncle Reynold, the cold, lifeless body that lay on the floor. When he died, a part of me died too. Unexpectedly, I found light. What surprised me was my mate, Annabelle. That night, she called for food that I didn't want to eat and assemble
My heart was shattered, my limbs heavy and all I want to do is curl up and sleep, wishing never to wake up from this ugly nightmare. However, sleep evaded me, inside my chest was a chasm that used to be where my heart was. All that was left was an empty void, a shell of what used to be me. Unable to bring myself to face Romeo, I stayed in the room throughout the flight, coming out only when the stewardess had knocked on the door informing me that the plane is making its descent. We consciously stayed away from each other or perhaps it was just me, as I chose to sit with Lucy and Reynold while he sat alone, silent and pensive. One thing I've learned from observing Romeo is that his emotions are the most turbulent when he is still and quiet. I wonder if he regretted my confession. Even after the plane had landed, I high-tailed behind Lucy and Reynold and entered their car, leaving Romeo alone with the driver in his car. If t
We arrived on the tarmac next to a plane that was painted with the Werewolf Kingdom's livery and crest. The interior was equally impressive, the walls are covered in wood paneling, plush leather seats in clusters of two, three, and four, and a small minibar sat at the corner. There was a door which I later found out led to a bedroom with an equally impressive king-sized bed. The plane took off not long after we arrived, and once we were surrounded by white fluffy clouds, Jughead started briefing Romeo of his schedule and engagements, one that both amazed and scared me. It has made me realize one thing, he wouldn't have a single moment available for my confession, so my best bet is to get a private moment with him while we're on the plane. Two hours later, Jughead finally left Romeo's side and I watched, my eyes half hooded, my expression relaxed, pretending to be asleep as Romeo made his way to where I sat. "Follow me." He crouched next to me and whispe
