Cora was greeted by the pungent fragrance of cooked bacon and eggs, which engulfed her in luxurious vapors that stroked her eyelids as she inhaled deeply and smiled with her eyes closed.

When she tried to open her eyes, she was welcomed with beams of sunlight streaming in through the open windows, which had their blinds drawn.

"Today is the full moon, Cee," she muttered, but Cee remained silent.

She turned to wrap her arm around her husband, only to come to a halt as she came into contact with an empty sheet.

When she eventually opened her eyes, she realized he wasn't really there. Then she sat properly on the bed, taking her time to become acquainted with her surroundings for the first time.

A bedside table to the left of the bed had a computer and, behind it, a mysterious small jewel box adorned with an exotic base relief. A stack of books and periodicals lay almost hidden on the floor behind the bedside table, serving as emergency provisions.
