HERO POV

"You've been quiet," I murmured, my gaze locked on hers. I reached out and gently brushed a stray strand of hair from her face. "Something on your mind?"

She met my eyes, a flicker of something I noticed like – shyness? anticipation? – crossing her features before she offered a soft smile. "You're very confident," she replied, a playful glint in her eyes. "You think you can just… make me… you know…”

I chuckled, a low rumble in my chest. "Is that a challenge?" I teased, my fingers tracing the line of her jaw. "Because I'm more than happy to accept. I'm not just going to make you come, darling. I'm going to make you moan my name. I'm going to make you tremble. I'm going to make you forget everything but the moment. Like I always do," I added, a slight hint of playful arrogance in my voice.

Cupping her face in my hands, I leaned in, my breath ghosting over her lips. "But tonight," I whispered, "tonight is going to be different. Tonight, I want to show you… I want to show you wha

ZARA POV"Take a deep breath," Sabrina said, her voice soft but firm. "Just try to work through the pain.""Pain?" My eyes snapped open, and I pushed myself up slightly, wincing. "But… but you told me this whole process would be painless if I just rested enough!" I whispered, trying to keep my voice down.Above me, Glinda rolled her eyes, while Hana and Sabrina exchanged a look, both grimacing. It was early afternoon the day after… everything. Since there was still a baby in the den – a tiny, precious bundle of new life – everyone was moving around like they were walking on eggshells, talking in hushed tones, and tiptoeing as quietly as possible. Honestly, I should have asked more questions when Glinda put up that soundproof barrier. My mind was too preoccupied with other things at the time."Yeah, I did say that," Sabrina admitted, her voice gentle, "but unfortunately, Glinda kept a journal. It meticulously documented the effects of the spell. The good news is, it's incredibly effect

ZARA POV"You have to promise me you won't tell anyone," I whispered, my voice barely above a breath. "Not even Hero. Not a word."Hana's eyes widened, her jaw dropping slightly. "What? What do you mean, don't tell him? This is going to work out, and he's going to know.""But if it's a real mating bond, shouldn't he know too?" I demanded, my voice rising a little. "Shouldn't his part of the bond… snap into place? It's not him, Hana. It's someone else.”Hana blinked, her expression that of confusion and concern. "Wait, what? Are you sure? What makes you think that?"I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. "I… I just know. I can feel it deep down. It's like…" I searched for the right words, "like I have a pull, a strong connection to someone else entirely and not him."Sabrina, who had been observing the exchange with a thoughtful expression, gently interjected, "We don't know for sure how the mating bond works, do we? Maybe it's different for everyone. Maybe it takes time to feel

HERO POVThe sound of her pain ripped through me, a raw, powerful thing that clawed at my insides. My wolf, usually a calm, watchful presence, surged forward, demanding control. I burst through the door, the flimsy wood splintering around the frame. The air crackled with magic, thick and suffocating. Zara was on her back, arched upwards in a grotesque position, her screams echoing off loudly. Witches surrounded her, their faces grim. My blood ran cold. They were hurting her.Without a second thought, I slammed through their circle of magic. The force of it shuddered through the entire coven, sending Sabrina and Hana stumbling backward before hitting the floor with a loud thud. The air crackled even more intensely, the smell of ozone stinging my nostrils."Fuck!" Hana screamed, the sound cut short as abruptly as it began. But that didn't stop my wolf. He pushed through Glinda , while snarling, a protective rage burning in my eyes. I hunched over Zara’s body, shielding her with my own.

HERO POVThe heaviness of the world settled on my shoulders. I’d spent hours wrestling with my own guilt before I could bring myself to look for Zara. I knew I’d messed up, big time. The image of her face, strained and focused during the ritual, kept flashing in my mind. And then, the image of me, pulling her away, and halting the progress of her finding her bond flashed. I cringed. Finally, I found her. She was in our room, just staring out the window. The same clothes she’d worn during the ritual clung to her, a complete reminder of what I'd done. Had she been here the whole time? Just… staring? My stomach twisted. I’d left her alone for too long, lost in my own head. I hadn't wanted her to push me away, but in my fear of that, I’d pushed her away myself.I crept into the room, my footsteps hesitant. The silence was thick, heavy. She didn't turn when I spoke."Hey," I began, my voice barely a whisper. "I… I talked to the witches. Apologized for the interruption. They… they understoo

HERO POV"When are we leaving?" she asked, her voice tight.I sighed internally. Damn it. I really didn't want to push this, but it needed to be said. If she wasn't ready to talk about what was happening, I couldn't force her. She needed to process everything on her own terms. All I could do was be there for her, make sure she was safe, and answer her questions as honestly as I could."Tomorrow," I replied, keeping my voice gentle. She frowned, her brow furrowing. "Finna can't go. She was supposed to be our bridge, remember? What if we're walking into a trap?""I know," I said, meeting her gaze. "It's a risk. But we've considered the alternatives, and this is the best option we have right now.""But without Finna..." she trailed off, her voice laced with worry."We'll be more cautious," I assured her. "Twice as cautious. We'll scout ahead, and we'll stick to the back routes as much as possible. We won't take any unnecessary chances.”"Zara, I really think you should stay back here," I

ZARA POV"Oh, great," I muttered under my breath, a nervous flutter in my stomach. This was definitely escalating quickly. Taking a deep breath, I plastered on my most winning smile – the one I usually reserved for charming difficult situations or convincing one of the guards to get me some candy. I needed to diffuse this tension between Mascold and Hero, and fast. "Hi," I said, stepping forward, my voice deliberately light and breezy. "My name is Zara, and I'm apparently going to be the voice of reason around here." I gave a small, self-deprecating chuckle, hoping it would break the ice.Hero, however, was having none of it. “Zara!” He growled my name, the sound low and rumbling, and his hands, surprisingly gentle but undeniably firm, circled my arm. It was a possessive gesture, and it sent a shiver down my spine, though not entirely from fear. There was something… intense about Hero.I didn't pull away. I wasn't scared – not exactly. I could sense the raw emotion radiating off him,

ZARA POV"Interesting," Baxter drawled, a smirk playing on his lips as he casually shrugged and settled into a chair. "Looks like you win, Prince Charming. Cinderella's stuck here."I winced inwardly. All this attention was so uncomfortable. I just wanted to disappear. Hero, was oblivious, while completely ignoring Baxter’s jab. He smoothly pulled out a chair for me, and I sank into it gratefully, wishing I could just melt into the ground. Everywhere I went on this mountain, all eyes were on me. It was incredibly unnerving.Hero took the seat beside me, while Walker perched on my other side. We formed an uneasy little group facing Mascold and Baxter. Mascold looked exactly as irritated as he had when we first encountered him at the border. I guessed Baxter still hadn't spilled any useful information. The tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife."You're a real problem for me, you know," Baxter began, his voice tight. "A deal's a deal though. It's simply impossible that

"This... operation, you said it happened years ago?" He pressed further.Baxter shifted uncomfortably, his gaze darting around the room before settling somewhere over my left shoulder. "Yeah, like I told you. A long time. Things were... different then.”"Different how?" I pressed, my fingers tracing the faded ink of a name on the page. Elara. Just one name among so many. "You mentioned it fell apart. Why?"He sighed, running a hand through his already disheveled hair. "Hard to say exactly. Maybe it was when he became Alpha. That changed everything, you know? The power... the influence. Things got... complicated.”My eyes scanned the pages of the worn leather-bound book, the names blurring together in a dizzying, heartbreaking procession. "Complicated how?" I asked, though I wasn't sure I really wanted to know. The

He stumbled into the room, the air thick with the stench of metallic blood. His gaze, wild and searching, fell upon his brother, sprawled lifeless on the blood-soaked rug.A strangled cry escaped Harold’s lips. He staggered towards the body, his knees buckling beneath him. "Oh Goodness," she whispered, her voice trembling. "What… what happened?"Harold, his hands trembling violently, reached out to touch his brother's cold, lifeless cheek. THE ALPHA'S REJECTED MUTE MATECHAPTER 1ADRIANA POVAfter making breakfast for the Luna of the Diamond Pack this morning, I headed back to my room. A big smile spread across my face as I glanced at the calendar hanging on the wall of the room given to me at the pack house. Each ticked-off day on the April calendar brought me closer to my special day. Today was finally the 28th of April, my eighteenth birthday! I couldn't contain my excitement.Turning eighteen for most wolves is a big deal. It's when we usually shift into our wolf forms for the first time and meet our inner wolves. I'm even more excited than most, because I've been Mute since I was born. I had been like this since I was a baby, wrapped in the arms of my dead mother. She had been killed by a pack of lone wolves. Lone wolf...A lone wolf is a wolf that lives and hunts alone, outside of a pack, they don't belong to any Pack. This can happen for various

ZARA POVGrant finished his meal, a happy little mess of baby food smeared around his mouth. Hero, with a gentle smile, lifted him into his arms. "Okay, little man," Hero said, his voice soft, "tell Daddy all about your day."Grant, in response, let out a series of excited baby noises, a mix of gurgles and happy babbling. He waved his tiny hands, as if trying to tell a grand story that only he understood. Hero chuckled, bouncing him lightly up and down. Grant's laughter filled the room, a sweet, pure sound that made my heart melt.I couldn't help but smile. It was like watching magic happen. Before, Hero had been so unsure, so worried about being a father. But now, seeing them together, it was clear he was a natural. Grant absolutely adored him. His eyes lit up whenever Hero was near, and Hero, in return, spent every free moment with his son.Every time I saw them together, Hero had this big, open smile. ZARA POVONE YEAR LATERThe bright summer sun streamed through the window, making the dust motes dance in the air. A warm breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass, and the sound of birds chirping filled the garden. Inside, the living room was a cheerful chaos of baby toys and soft blankets.Kristina was sitting on the plush sofa, her eyes wide and sparkling as she cradled Grant in her arms. He was almost a year old now, a chubby little bundle of joy with big, curious eyes. He gurgled happily, reaching out tiny hands to tug at Kristina's bright pink shirt."Oh, he's just the sweetest thing!" Kristina sighed, her voice full of pure adoration. "Look at those eyes! And his little hands! He's absolutely perfect."I smiled, leaning against the doorway. "He is, isn't he? He gets those eyes from Hero.""And that hair! Just like Hero's too," Kristina added, gently stroking Grant's soft, dark curls. "He's a mini-Hero. You're so lucky, Zara. I swear, if I wasn't your best friend right now,

Are you sure?"Her eyes, wide and filled with a raw, primal fear, locked onto mine. "Yes! I'm sure! Oh, it hurts, Hero. It hurts so much!"She swayed, her legs buckling beneath her. I reacted instantly, leaping forward and catching her before she could fall. "Zara! Hold on, hold on.”"Oh, it's coming, Hero. It's really coming!" she gasped, her voice thick with pain. "It's… it’s like a fire inside.""Jeremy! Guys! We need help!" I yelled, my voice cracking with urgency. "Now!"Instead of the swift, coordinated response I expected, they walked towards us. A wave of cheers erupted, and my eyes widened in disbelief. Jeremy and the others stood there, beaming, holding bottles of sparkling wine and brightly colored balloons. "Congratulations, Hero! Congratulations, Zara!”They started clapping, oblivious to the chaos unfoldin

HERO POVMy hands were shaking. I mean, really shaking. I tried to smooth down my shirt, but it didn't help. I was standing right in front of the place. We had put up lights, flowers, everything. It was supposed to look like a dream, the kind of place you see in movies. I had spent all day, every single minute, trying to make it perfect. I wanted it to be just right for Zara.I took a deep breath. It didn't do much. My heart was pounding like a drum. I kept thinking, "What if she doesn't like it? What if it's not good enough?" I looked around again. We had hung little lights everywhere. They twinkled, even though it wasn't dark yet. We had put up her favorite flowers, the bright yellow ones. I had even gotten some special candles that smelled like vanilla, her favorite."Man, you look like you're about to jump out of your skin," Jeremy said. He was standing next to me, trying to look cool. He always looked cool. I wished I could be that calm."I'm nervous," I admitted. "Really nervous

ZARA POVI felt so much better. My body was strong again. Hero had taken care of everything. He made Paul and Alvira tell everyone what they did. The whole squad saw it, even Kira. They told the truth about trying to hurt me. Because of this, my father was going to lose his position as Alpha. He was in big trouble. But we had a big problem. We couldn't tell everyone about the mountain. It had too much magic. If other packs found out, they could use it for bad things. So, we all agreed to keep the mountain a secret.I knew Mascold wasn't happy about us leaving the mountain because they were torn between the fear of letting their secret out. Paxton and his mate tried to talk to us then and we had refused. I felt glad I had turn them down because right now, I was walking back into my old house to confront my father finally. It should have been my home, but it never really felt like it. I walked tall and proud. No one dared to touch me.I wondered why. Maybe they knew Hero was my mate, an

HERO POV"Are you alright?" I asked again, my voice low. I looked at her wrists, at the marks left by the cuffs, and at the rough collar around her neck. A wave of anger washed over me, a hot, burning feeling. Even though Weston was gone, I wanted to hurt him again, just for touching her like this. How could anyone do this to her?She blinked slowly, her eyes looking tired. "Yeah," she whispered, "I'm... I'm okay." She paused, her eyes fluttering. "But... I think I'm going to faint.”And then, just like that, she went limp in my arms. I felt a surge of panic. "Zara!" I called, but she didn't respond. I held her close, carefully lifting her into my arms. She was so light.I walked out of the cabin, the wooden floor creaking under my boots. The night air was cool, and the moon was bright, casting long shadows. I held Zara tightly, my heart pounding.Suddenly, I heard a soft rustling sound from the trees nearby. It was a subtle sound, like leaves moving, but my senses were sharp. I stopp
