Kairo
I bit my lips and bounced my leg as I looked at my watch in anxiety. It’s been over four hours since Emery and the others departed to go to Noah’s farm, yet I still haven’t received any confirmation that they’ve already arrived there. Moreover, no signs of intrusion have been found near the borders. I’ve doubled the pack warriors on duty today so we can have more protection, but it seems like those efforts will go to waste.
Why do I feel an unsettling feeling in my stomach?
I dialed Dante’s phone for what I felt like the hundredth time, but it only kept on ringing. Shit. Didn’t I tell him to update me as soon as they arrive? Dante always keeps his promises, so I feel like there is definitely something wrong.
I started biting my nails, but two small hands grabbed my hand before I could.
“Daddy, no! No biting of nails. Mommy said that it’s bad.” Arlo said in a reprimanding voice
Emery “Dad?” The chained man turned around, and I broke into tears. He really is dad! I ran to where he was and held his wounded face in my hands. “Dad? Dad? It’s me.” I said while trying to get him back to his right state of mind. It seems like they have given him some kind of drug that made him lose all of his senses. His eyes were blank, but he was panting very loudly. “Water! Give him water.” I looked everywhere in the room but found no traces of water or food. Tears continued to stream from my eyes after I saw that my father’s ribs can be seen through his skin. “Fuck! What the fuck! You guys are fucking sick. I’m going to kill all of you!” I screamed while trying to get to Kamala and strangle her with the chains. But she just held my hand in place and threw me to the ground. I hit the floor in frustration. Fuck! I can’t even beat her. I can’t even do anything for my father. I stopped trying to attack her when my father started
EmeryI sat down and leaned against the hard and cold wall. I looked to my father once in a while, who was eating the meal portion that was meant for me. I smiled as he ate the vegetables and bread happily.“How often do they feed you here?”“As Kamala said, they feed us at most two times a week. But, when you disobey their commands, we’re lucky that we’re at least given water that week.” He looked at his exposed ribs and chuckled. “Your big pops had turned thin, eh? I’d rather starve than obey what they say.”“You can’t joke about this, dad. You could have died, for real this time. Speaking off, can you tell me what exactly happened back then? I thought you died, dad.” I said while looking at him with concern. He sighed and slouched his shoulders. “I thought I was going to die too. I was even prepared to leave this world and go with your mother. Thinking about it now, I
Kairo“Have you filed the war request to The Apex?” I asked Dalton, who was the one assigned with all of the paperwork in the upcoming war.“I have,” he nodded. “They were quite hesitant at first because they were worried for our safety. Although they don’t support The Council, they’ve never been able to bring them down because, let’s face it, man! The Council’s incredibly strong. If you weren’t our Alpha, then I’m pretty sure that we don’t have a single chance of winning this war.”I nodded my head, “That’s why we have to be very careful. If we lose this war, then all of the Blood Shadow pack will be under The Council’s name, and our pack would cease to exist.”He sighed, “That’s what I’m afraid of. But I’ve already accepted that we’re going to win this battle. I ain’t settling for a loss, Kairo.”“Y
KairoWe are now nearing the borders of Kvenland village at exactly 4:00 in the afternoon. I sped up my steps because I couldn’t let them release the gases. We trudged over to their territory and saw over a hundred soldiers on The Council’s side. I smirked. I expected this much, so I prepared about the same amount of warriors. To add to that, some of their soldiers right now are on our side.I raised my hand to signal the warriors to a halt. Kamala walked closer to where we were, along with the other members of the Superior Council and their pet Klaus. My eyes narrowed while looking at their smug faces.“Alpha Kairo— or should I just call you Kairo? You’re bound to lose your title anyway since we’re going to claim your land and honor once we defeat you in this war,” Klaus started off.“Exactly. Those four years of you running away from us will all be in vain, and you’ll finally fall into our arms. Don&
Emery“Well, that was quick,” I said as I kicked the door open. “I could have done this yesterday if there weren’t so many guards in front of our door.”We went out of the room and saw the trembling faces of the rare-bloods. Almost all of them were covering their noses in fear of inhaling the gases. When they saw us, however, they suddenly backed away and assumed a fighting stance.“Don’t worry, calm down. We’re not here to hurt you. We’re the ones in the room next door, and we’re here to release you,” I said while subtly moving closer to them. They started putting their guard down as I opened their door. They hesitated to go out, but I made sure to keep them comfortable. “It’s okay. You can come out. The guards aren’t here right now, and Kamala is busy with the war upstairs.”“T—the war?” The young girl asked meekly. I clenched my fists in a
EmeryI placed the white flower on the casket as a tear fell down from my eye. Arlo and Devyn were right beside me, and they held onto both of my hands. I looked into the transparent glass and peered over the deceased figure. It’s been four days after the war, and although we had won the war, it felt as if I had lost one of the most important people in my life. I held back my tears as I went back to my seat. It was a saddening reality that only my children were right beside me. I craved for my mate’s comfort and touch, but I’m afraid that he wouldn’t be able to do that right now.It was time for the last words, and Dalton came onto the podium. He tapped the mic and cleared his throat. He tried to speak a couple of times, but he choked back on his tears. After calming down for a few moments and taking deep breaths, he finally started speaking.“I would greet you all a pleasant afternoon, but I would be lying if I say that what
EmeryAfter finding out that Kamala was pregnant, Kairo still wanted to push through with his plan. However, I talked some sense into him and said to him that the child doesn’t have any fault in all of this. He or she is just like Arlo and Devyn at this point.Since I compared Kamala’s child with our children, his heart softened, and he postponed her punishment just until she gives birth. He also said something along the lines of, “It’ll also become much more painful if I take her child away from her.”Kairo kept his word and never harmed Kamala during her pregnancy. He even had Dante facilitate her labor. However, his kindness ended at that. After the daughter was born, Kairo took her from Kamala and turned her over to Cy, who was now the leader of Kvenland village. In a span of one month, Kairo would always go down to the dungeons and come up with bloody clothes. I don’t really know what he did to her in that month an
I bit my lips nervously as the hairstylist curled my hair. Karina gently slapped my shoulder and scolded me.“Stop biting your lips! You’re going to make them dry, and the make-up artist will have a harder time putting lipstick on you.”I played with my dress and couldn’t sit still. “But I’m nervous, Karina! What if Kairo gets into an accident? What if I trip? What if the catering service suddenly backs out?”She chuckled and stroked my back. “Calm down! Kairo’s getting ready with the boys downstairs. You’re not going to trip since your shoes are made really well. And the catering service is already at the reception, how can they back out? Just relax. Everything’s going to be just fine.”I sighed and slouched my shoulders. “But I can’t help but think. It’s my wedding day, after all.”“You’re right. It’s okay to think. But your overthink
Third Person’s POV On a warm evening in April, the Ford family members are all gathered at one table. Emery prepared their favorite foods, and it seemed like things were going well. They looked like a perfect family, and they are! However, Emery and Laura started talking hushedly and giggling as the dessert was served. Kairo leaned closer to her lovely ladies in an attempt to hear their conversation. Laura turned to her swiftly and scooted closer to her mom. “What are you doing, dad? Can’t you see that mom and I are talking?” Kairo pouted and bitterly ate his black forest cake. “You’ve changed. You used to tell everything to daddy. But I guess you’re too cool for that now.” Laura is now in middle school, and Kairo has been feeling melancholic these past few days. He feels like time is moving too fast, and his once cute children can now live without depending on him. Laura sighed and pushed her seat back in its original placement. “I always tel
Dalton“You signed me up for what?” I asked incredulously as I looked at my group of friends. They were all looking at me with wide eyes, and I couldn’t help but sigh out.Emery fiddled with her fingers and avoided my gaze. “We kind of signed you up for a speed dating event.”I threw my head back and pinched the bridge of my nose. “Out of all things that you could have signed me up for, you signed me up for speed dating? You could have signed me up for a hotdog-eating event, horseback racing, corn tending, you could have even signed me up for a Japanese karaoke reality show, and I wouldn’t hesitate to agree. But this! This is too much!” I said and shook my head.Karina went over to me and shook my shoulders. “Oh, come on, Dalton! All of the events that you’ve suggested are even weirder than the speed dating event! We saw the ad on a very reliable site, so you don’t have to worry about its l
DevynThe birds chirped as I removed the sheets from my body. I wrapped my arms around myself when I felt a soft breeze brush against my bare skin. I let out a deep breath as I felt the bright and vibrant sun lightly hitting my closed eyelids.Wait… Sunlight? Why am I feeling sunlight?I always wake up before sunlight.I jolted up from my bed and checked the time on my phone.8:00 AMWhat the fuck! Why the hell didn’t my alarm go off? I looked at my set of alarms and saw that they were all turned off. I slammed my phone down on the bed and screamed the name of the one and only culprit.“Arlo! You motherfucker!” I screamed while making my way downstairs to find that bastard. He was sitting on the dining table, leisurely sipping his coffee.“Oh! You’re awake. Good morning, brother. Great day, isn’t it?”I walked closer to him and slammed my fist down the table. The mug
ArloI looked at myself in the mirror and could not help but whistle in satisfaction. Staring back at me is the most handsome and charming man that I’ve ever seen. Of course, that man is me. The music in the background only amplified my beauty, and I couldn’t help but look at myself in wonder. However, my self-loving session ended when someone turned off the music. I turned around to scold the culprit and saw my mom.“Mom! What are you doing in my room? Privacy, please!” I said exasperatedly. She gave me a tired look and went beside me. “Arlo, please. I love you very much, and you’re a very handsome boy. But you’re turning borderline narcissistic. You’ve been hanging out too long with your uncle Dalton. I need to speak to your father about this.”I gestured towards my new shoes and complained. “But Uncle Dalton’s a cool guy, mom! He just bought me some new shoes for my first day of s
Third Person’s POVEmery stood anxiously by the door while Kairo bounced in excitement. It has been a while since they’ve gone out on a date, and today, they finally got the chance to do that. Kairo went all out and booked an expensive hotel just outside the city for Emery and him.“Are we really leaving our kids to him?” Emery asked.“Hey! What’s wrong with me?” Dalton asked, distastefulness heard in his voice. “Just look at the kids! They’re so behaved now that I’m here.”After Dalton said that statement, Laura pushed off the contents of the living room table while Arlo chased Devyn with a worm. It seems like the house became more chaotic with Dalton just being there.Emery looked at him incredulously. “Are you serious?” She turned back to Kairo and held onto his shoulders. “Let’s have our date some other time, okay? Maybe when the kids get older.”
KairoToday, Emery is taking Arlo and Devyn to their monthly haircut, so I had to stay at home to take care of baby Laura all by myself. Laura is now three years old, and she’s the most energetic that she’s ever been. She wasn’t awake yet at the moment, so I had some time to breathe for myself.Emery had just finished arranging the boys’ bags when I went behind her to give her a back hug.She chuckled and turned around. She brought her arms around my neck and gave me a peck on my pouty lips. “What are you acting like a big baby for?” She asked softly.“You’re leaving me alone,” I whined.Emery chuckled. “I’m only going to take the boys for their haircut. It’s only going to take two hours at most. Besides, this is going to be a great opportunity for you to exercise your fatherhood. You haven’t even tried being alone with Laura now that she’s a toddler.”
Third Person’s POV Time flew by pretty quickly, and baby Laura is now a year old. Being an exceptional baby, she quickly developed the skills of a toddler, even as an infant. At a year old, she can already walk and write basic letters. She can even hum a tune! However, what is strange among all of these, is that she hasn’t uttered her first words yet. There were plenty of times when it felt like she was finally going to say her first words, but she sure does know how to play push-and-pull. Since everybody’s anticipating her first words, they’ve placed bets among themselves on what her first words are going to be. The group of friends was sitting on the floor in the living room. Along with them were Arlo, Devyn, and the grandparents. Crassus slammed his foot down the floor and intimidatingly looked at all of them. “I’m telling you right now. Laura’s first words will be ‘mama.’ It will always be ‘mama.’ Every other child that I’ve known
Third Person’s POVEmery is currently nine months pregnant, and everyone inside the house has been walking on eggshells. Her belly has protruded so much that she couldn’t even see her feet, and the gang feels like she’s ready to give birth at any time. All throughout the week, there have been many false alarms, and I guess this day was no exception.Karina and Emery were sunbathing near the pool while gossiping about the new human settlers just near the borders.“Did you see the way those girls looked at our mates? I couldn’t believe that they have the audacity to take their numbers when we were literally next to them!” Karina rambled.“Right? And can’t that blondie even see my baby bump? Like hello? You’re hitting on a baby daddy?” Emery rambled with her.“Ugh, it’s so hard being a woman. Imagine! We’re the ones having our periods every month, we’re the ones who&rs
Third Person’s POVThe group of friends was currently sitting down on their living room couch, huddled over Kairo’s laptop. It was pretty late at night, so the kids had all gone to sleep. They were currently watching gender reveal parties on a video platform.Different kinds of snacks were laid down on the table, and only the sound of the videos, along with their munching, could be heard in the room. They were on their fifth video now, but each member’s reaction was still lukewarm. Tired from all the mediocre gender reveal parties, Dalton roughly shut down the laptop and stood up.“I’m sick and tired of these videos. They’re too boring! It’s not enough for the unborn child of the strongest Alpha in the world and a Lycan. We need to go beyond all of these! We need to invite every pack that we can and show the world just how precious your future child is. Who’s with me?” He exclaimed with exaggerated motions.
