Alexa's POV...
The dim room was supposed to give some form of comfort and relaxation, but it had the opposite effect on me. All I could do was stare at the ceiling, hoping my heart would stop beating so quickly and my head would stop conjuring frightening images and allow me some semblance of peace and quiet.
The dinner of spaghetti sauce and beer was served that evening. Logan had barely touched his food before he was called out by Simon. He said that he had some urgent pack duties to attend to. I, too, could not eat; the little bit of food I had swallowed seemed to have turned into lead in my stomach, making me feel bloated and heavy and stressing me with the energy to keep my disgusted face as it seemed like the bile was rising into my mouth.
I gave up on the spaghetti and meatloaf and focused on my bottle of beer; at least the cold comfort that it offered cascaded down my throat and massaged me comfortably; it was a relief to be back here, even if the stares
Logan's POV...It was late into the night when I returned home. My men and I tried to intensify the search for Kara. Simon had taken it up on himself to mobilize men who were instructed to search every inch of the territory and even carefully trespass if they had to so long as it would bring them results.I was not happy with the state of things. To him, it seemed like ever since I came into Alexa's life, all that I did was cause pain and sorrow. First, it had been killing her parents, then I went ahead to take her captive and allowed her to suffer as my prisoner. But in my defence, all of this was way before I knew who she was, before I realized the angelic soul that she had and that she was nothing like her parents. It was a long before I realized that my heart had been stolen by her. Now it seemed like every day without her was totally incomplete; even the mere thought of a hair being lost on her head made me uncomfortable. The fact that she was d
Author's POV...Kara could feel the wind on her face; the cold morning air felt good against her skin. For the past nights, she had been going through records, strategizing and coming up with the easiest and fastest ways to infiltrate Logan's pack.Vader and Carl were right beside her, also coming up with brilliant plans to execute the mission. Kara had to admit that Logan's pack was very powerful, the soldiers were well trained, and every pack member had a standard defence skill; she warned Alpha Carl that attacking the red Lotus pack would not be as easy as they estimated.Vader and Carl had no doubt believed that since she knew the ins and outs of the pack, then it should be easy for them to attack and succeed. But Kara pointed out that even if she knew the pack very well, it would still not be a cakewalk to take them down because the men were strong, and Logan was not that easy to outsmart. She advised them instead to gather more men and ensure they had enou
Alexa's POV...The nanny was still feeding the baby when I emerged from the bathroom with my hair wrapped loosely in a fluffy white towel. I also had a white towel across my chest to cover me. I had been on the training ground that morning, jogging for forty-five minutes before rounding up with squats and weights. It wasn't my best, but then it was better than the days of inactivity I'd suffered for two weeks.Logan had insisted I rested, even though Alvin, my baby, was constantly with the nanny; I rarely saw him during the day. Then, at night, I struggled to sleep with all the anxiety and nightmares.I was a fighter, a trained one at that, and not just a sit-at-home mum, but Logan insisted that I should not put myself in danger by being out there. He was right, and even if he hadn't said it, I doubt I'd have been able to step out and function as I should have.I was still getting used to life in the pack, and it did not help that the judgmental loo
Logan's POV...I was waiting for Simon to come back with a report that Alexa was okay and safe. She was my main source of worry, she and my son, Alvin. I was already headed their way when one of the patrol guards on the west side of the pack house held me, saying that some people had noticed unusual movement in the forest nearby. He said he'd checked it out, and it turns out that at least thirty men were heading their way from the northern direction.I knew a threatening situation when I heard one. As much as I wished it was nothing worth being alarmed over, inside of me, I knew it was dangerous. My instincts have never lied, and I didn't expect them to fail me then. My first action was to call all men around the pack to place and siege and secure all entrances. Then, I called on Simon to go to my Alexa and make sure she and the baby were okay. I could not afford to lose any of them. The only weapon I had on me then was my dagger, which I inherited f
Logan's POV...There was the calm after the storm. While some of my men tried to clean up the dead bodies that littered the field at the edge of the forest, some of them went about checking all the possible access to the house to ensure that no enemy had snuck up on us.It was during this time that I was notified of the intrusion from the left wing of the pack house. Simon called me and reported that the men had noticed footprints leading away into the river. There must have been a boat there that conveyed them away because when we tried to trace the prints, they seemed to disappear just at the edge of the river. The first thing I did was to go in to make sure that Alexa was okay, as well as Alvin. I found Alexa on the floor, crying furiously, her arms over Selena. Although she tried to keep her voice muffled, it was obvious that her cries had roused the baby on the cot, who was thankfully not crying like his mother but simply mumbling to himself.
Alexa's POV...I woke up next to Logan, his hands around my waist, his soft breath on my face. I knew that it was his calming presence that nudged me to sleep despite how turbulent my mind was the previous day.I knew Logan was trying everything within his power to protect me from the truth. What he did not know was that I knew all that had happened in the pack and the outcome of the battle.Selena called me that night to check up on me. Although she refused to give me any valuable information concerning the attack, she did, however, promise to provide me with any updates she knew so long as I, too, promised to have a good night's rest and not worry about it.It was hard to keep to my side of the promise, but in my defence, I managed to get two hours of sleep next to Logan. The power of makeup did the rest of the job as I covered my dark under-eye bags and tried to apply some colour to my face without making it obvious. Anyone who knew
Author's POV...Kara was on the balcony, her favourite balcony at Carl's pack. She appreciated the peace and quiet so much and valued the alone time she could carve out for herself, and she also admired the view.Whenever she could, she went out to the open and tried to calm her mind as much as she could. The open-air gave her the serenity that she required, and frankly, she needed to do a lot of thinking. Although the past attack on the red Lotus pack was successful, she had reservations about the next line of action.Alpha Carl had suggested that they launch another con the pack immediately after the attack. As much as that would benefit them with the surprise element, Kara knew it would not quite work out. The men they had just freed from prison were too weak to function in any battle. Left to her, she would suggest that they rest and try to recuperate before going out to battle again. But then, alpha Carl had a peculiar way of doing things. He was a ma
Alexa's POV...Since the day that I appeared before the council, my relationship with Logan had become quite strained. The first difference I noticed in him was his not returning to bed on time, and some nights, he did not come to my bedroom. Selena told me not to worry that he would come around. Frankly, I was not worried about his coming around; I was more concerned with how I would prove my innocence to the council and take the pack out of danger. For the past few days, I went back to my training routine. Every morning when I woke up, I dressed up in my training attire and went to ready to go to the open field and train with Selena. There was one thing that the attack had taught me, it was to be prepared at every instance. One minute, we were peaceful and happy, and the next minute, war was coming our way. This taught me to be better prepared for everything that would threaten to come our way; although Logan had told me that he was very capable of
