Twenty-Five: Word of Warning

Gabriel didn't seem to want to let me go after our conversation, and I didn't either. Instead, we walked hand in hand to the business center where the offices were. Gabriel's was the largest at the end of the hall, with a giant mahogany desk and bookshelves lining the room. He had several security measures in place that he had to work through before he could get into the building and then the room, but I understood the need for security.

When he sat down in his oversized leather chair, he swiftly pulled me back into his lap before turning on his computer.

I sat cuddled against his chest for hours until my stomach started to grumble, and even then ignored the calls for food. Everything about him, his smell, touch, looks, the sound of his voice… I wanted to memorize it all.

A knock on the door had me shoving my head further into his neck in protest of our time together being interrupted. The door cracked open, and Betsy peeked her head in with a Cheshire grin

As I finished my plate, I thought about Gabriel working in one of the pack's shops. Him standing there in jeans that hugged his thighs and butt, steel toe boots, and a tight t-shirt, damp with sweat. The image of him with grease on his rough and calloused hands as the back of one ran across his forehead made me start to feel hot. My tongue ran out over my lips, wetting them as I pressed my thighs together. Gabriel's hand tightened on my hip, fingers pressing down onto and sending sparks across my skin. The sound of his fork dropping to his plate made me look up. His eyes were black, and the predatory gaze he sent my way sent a rush of pleasure straight to my core. "Mate," he growled out seductively. "You seem to have something on your mind." He pressed his nose to the sensitive flesh of my neck, running it up the skin until he reached my lips. "You have no idea what you do to me." His kiss left me breathless, and I immediately spun around to straddle him. Our tongues fought for domi

I sat on the opposite side of the desk, much to Gabriel's disappointment, staring at him as he continued to work. He moved much faster without me in his lap. His shirt was large on me, like a giant's. I pulled it over my knees as I placed my head on them, watching Gabriel in his element as he filed paperwork, responded to emails, and took or made calls to deal with other packs and suppliers. It seemed like a lot was put on his shoulders as the Alpha, but when I offered to help, he declined and told me to relax. I knew once I turned and was officially Luna, I would assume some of these responsibilities, but I didn't mind. It wasn't fair for it to be all on one person anyway. A knock on the door broke me from my train of thought as I sat there admiring my mate. I couldn't look at the desk without picturing what we had just done, so I focused on him instead. There was no talking, but I assumed Gabriel had contacted the visitor telepathically as his eyes seemed t

My parents tried to fish information out of me at dinner that night. It was the first time I had a friend, let alone a boyfriend. Most of the time, when Elena would go out with Stacy or any of her other friends, she had me tag along because she didn't want me to feel left out. While it was thoughtful of her, it was even more uncomfortable hanging out with people that didn't particularly care for me. Now that I had a life of my own, I don't think my parents knew what to do. My mom asked me how it went with Gabriel, and I tried to keep it to one-word answers. "How was lunch with Gabriel?" – "Good." "Did you guys go anywhere nice?" – "Yes." "How was the rest of your day?" – "Fun." Over the years, I had learned to keep things to myself. The less I gave them, the less they had to work with to convince themselves that I was crazy. My mom shot my dad an irritated look of 'say something' when she realized that I wasn't going to give anything away. Unfortunately for her, his eyes seemed t

Within seconds of me waking up from the nightmare that would haunt me for the rest of my life, my window slid open. I stifled a scream as the familiar, broad shoulders maneuvered through the narrow frame. He wasted no time in making his way to me. There were no words shared between us as Gabriel crawled under the comforter and pulled me against his chest. My mind was still racing, flooded with panic, horror, and the nagging feeling that I needed to throw up from the image of my father dead. There was a nagging pull in the back of my mind. The pinprick was easily discovered to be worry as I honed in on it. It was him. It was Gabriel. Though I was in his arms, being able to feel his emotions inside me had a calming effect that I wasn't prepared for. I pushed aside the awful things I was feeling and zeroed in on the man beside me. On the worry, love, and determination that were leaking into my mind from his. It was enough to ground me, and my body slowly stopped shaking. My tears dried

Gabriel had snuck out before I woke up the next morning, leaving me nothing more than a text to inform me that he doubled my security and that I had nothing to worry about. Oh, and that he loved me. I would never grow tired of hearing or reading those words from him. What he didn't understand was that my concern wasn't for myself. It was for my family. It was for him. It was for his people. It felt like a bad omen. As if there was something about to happen that I needed to prepare for. I just didn't know what it was. Elena was sitting on the couch when I stumbled down the stairs in a groggy haze. While I slept, it was not a quality slumber. Throughout the night, or rather, early morning, I continuously woke up with the need to reassure myself that Gabriel was still there. He was like my comfort blanket. A very big and heavy comfort blanket. Whether it was his way of cuddling or if he just preferred to lay on his stomach and my small bed didn't leave him enough room, I found myself s

Gabriel snuck into my room every night that week. I didn't want my parents to freak out about me spending the night somewhere else after the hickey fiasco, and Gabriel was more than willing to come to me.It did make me feel guilty, knowing that there were extra wolves outside in the elements to guard me and my house. If I stayed with him, they would be home with their families, and the only people out would be the normal patrol for the pack land.On Friday, he left me a sweet message that he wanted to take me on a date that night. He knew I was nervous about meeting his parents on Saturday in addition to meeting the rest of the pack, and I appreciated that he wanted to do something to take my mind away from the terrifying day to follow.I hadn't had any more nightmares. It seemed the solution to my problem was the large six foot five giant lightly snoring on top of me each night. I knew that I would have to get over my fears quickly. How could I be a Luna to al

We pulled up at a five-star restaurant in the center of town, and I was relieved that I had slipped into a nice dress for our date. It was not the kind of place that you could wear jeans to. Gabriel bent his arm toward me, and I looped my hand through the crook of his elbow. I loved the way his other hand moved over to lay on top of mine. It was a timeless move. The doors were opened by a Valet as we entered. I was immediately taken aback by the beautiful chandelier hanging in the front foyer. The hostess seated us immediately, without asking for Gabriel's name or reservation. Just a simple, "Welcome Back, Sir. Ma'am, right this way." If the place were empty and they were trying to fill seats, I wouldn't have resorted to wondering if Gabriel had taken other women here in the past. Since he was recognized, I had to wonder, even though he told me he had always been faithful. The low lighting, red velvet upholstery, and dark wooden tables made it feel li

I woke up with a smile on my face and let out a satisfied groan as I stretched out as far as my body would go. After the night we had, there was no way to wipe the shit-eating grin off of my face. Meeting the parents be damned! I was going to keep this man no matter what anyone thought of me. The entire night had been full of light-hearted flirting and small talk. All of the big conversations would have to wait until we were back on pack land so no one would overhear us. When we had to pull our hands apart to eat, his foot slid forward until it was pressed against the side of mine. When I stood up to use the restroom, he stood up as well and was there to pull out and push my chair back in upon my return. There wasn't a single moment that I wasn't on the verge of swooning from how gentlemanly or considerate he was. It had been a romantic dinner, followed by the sharing of an overly sweet dessert. Gabriel hated it, cringing when he took a bite, but when he saw

  • The Alpha's Girl Series   Epilogue

Five Months Later Kaylee's P.O.V. I let out a groan as I was thrown onto my back for the tenth time today. Parker had been so proud of how quickly I moved up through the training groups, learning how to fight and defend myself. It wasn't until I was up against him that I got to experience firsthand just how incredibly skilled and fluid Parker was. I knew that from other aspects of our relationship, but seeing him fight and sparring against him myself was a different level. 'You need to focus, love,' Parker taunted as he nipped at my butt playfully. I flinched, my wolf rolling back onto her stomach as I glared at him. Part of it wasn't even my fault. How was I supposed to not get distracted by my incredibly attractive mate touching me? 'Let's call it a day,' I said as I shook my fur free of the loose grass. My attempt to saunter up to him failed as my sore muscles made it appear more like a drunken stumble. Parker choked out a laugh before rubbing the side of his wolf up against me

Parker's P.O.V. She made me promise not to drug her again, and while I wasn't wanting to use it, I still had an injection tucked away in my pocket. Her mother was excited to see Kaylee's wolf, but it was obvious that her over-excitement was an attempt to hide her nerves and anxiety about the outcome of the change. Kaylee was a buddle of sore and delicate excitement as she bounced and stumbled into the forest earlier than she needed to. I followed behind her, my arms ready to catch her if she fell, but she would just dance out of reach and laugh before moving deeper into the trees and underbrush. "You know you're going to be a wolf and not a woodland fairy, right?" I laughed as she ran her hand across the trunk of a tree. "I know!" She glared back at me with an adorable smile. "But that's just it. I am going to be a wolf with you." I dashed forward, scooping her up into my arms as she giggled. "I can't wait to see you, run with you, and feel you. I bet you have the softest fur pos

Parker's P.O.V. Over the next week, I watched as Kaylee did her best to stand strong and smile through the discomfort, but I could feel how much pain she was in as her body prepared for the full moon. It was so much worse than last time, and while I didn't like that she was hurting, I also took it as a good thing. To me, it was a sign that her wolf was stronger this time, that she was fighting to get out and ready to meet her human. It had taken less than a week for the Blood Moon Pack to come to their verdict under their pack laws, and all five wolves, the Luna included, were sentenced to death. We stood tall in the crowd as the wolves were brought forward and placed on their knees before their pack as their crimes were read. Alpha Blake had given Kaylee a quick squeeze on one shoulder before moving forward to stand in front of the accused. The smell of silver and wolfs-bane was strong in his system, and I admired that he was strong enough to dose himself to maintain control. A wo

Kaylee's P.O.V. The trip back to the Midnight Pack was bittersweet. Everyone was tense, knowing that Alpha Gabriel would not be happy that we all went on this rescue mission without his permission. Parker made me ride on his back the way home, and his excitement was pouring from his body. I held on tightly as he dipped and dodged around trees, bucking his back up higher than he needed to when he jumped over things. He was like a puppy playing. Every time I made a noise or tightened my grip on him, he would look back at me with his tongue hanging out to the side, and a large wolfish smile stretched across his face. It was adorable, and while my heart was hurting from having to be separated from my mother again after all this time, I couldn't help but smile back at him. Anytime I had seen his wolf out, he was angry or fighting someone. But this time, he was genuinely happy. I was half tempted to tell him to just keep going past our old pack and take me far into the sunset to live a p

Kaylee's P.O.V. The sound of a throat clearing had me reluctantly pulling away from Parker. My eyes glanced over the tensely reuniting Jack and Kate, who were standing close but weren't touching, to see my father standing in the doorway. His bright green eyes and dark brown hair were so similar to the younger man standing next to him, and I sighed in relief at the sight of Oliver standing tall and unharmed. "Don't worry about me. Just focus on your mate." Oliver said as he moved toward us and dropped into one of the leather chairs to my side with the back of one of his hands across his forehead. "Your little brother was just held captive, but whatever." I rolled my eyes with a smile as I shoved his shoulder with my hand. The burn marks were gone from his neck, and the bruising had disappeared from his face. There was a small twinkle in his eye as he sent a wink my way, and I knew he was happy that everything worked out. "Kaylee?" A small voice asked from the door, and my stomach ti

Kaylee's P.O.V. When we walked through the pack land, it was extremely noticeable how different the two packs were. The Earth thrived around the Blood Moon Pack. The grass and moss on the trees were a darker green than what I had been used to seeing at the Midnight Pack, and I couldn't help but take in a deep breath of the clean air. The pack had moved so silently on the moist, plant-rich ground that, had I not seen them, I would not have realized they were even walking with us. I expected to feel some sense of panic as they surrounded us and led us through the collection of houses, but instead, I felt peace. It was something that I hadn't felt in a very long time. I eyed the large house before us with wonder as we were led inside the stone and wood-decorated building. Although, one could argue this was a castle. Surrounded by mountains on both sides, the pack house was a large three-story building where all of the offices, communal kitchen, and game rooms were, as had been expla

Parker's P.O.V. I eyed the two wolves on patrol outside of their dungeons from a distance, watching and waiting to see if they had a pattern in the way they moved and if they were alone. So far, they seemed fairly well trained. While that wasn't an issue for four of us to take on two of them, it would become an issue if they saw us. All it took was one call in their pack link, and their entire fighting force would rain down on us. We wouldn't have the time to get downstairs and unlock Oliver before their reinforcements arrived. It was a huge risk, but we had no choice. 'Scarlett, Hudson, the two of you have the guard on the south side of the entrance. Jack and I will take the one on the north. We need to stay silent and approach from behind. If they get the chance to alert the pack that we're here, it'll all be over.' I said through the pack link, making sure all three of them could hear me as I waited for each one of them to acknowledge my instructions. With confirmation that we w

Kaylee's P.O.V. It only took a minute for a large brown and silver wolf to come barreling through the crowd. He slid to a halt, sending dirt flying as his wolf reached the border. My hands shook as I finally saw my father in front of me. I had heard about him when I was little, but not often. My mother didn't like talking about him too much. She would normally excuse herself after a few minutes and go cry in her bedroom, thinking I didn't notice or hear her. He had left her pregnant with me and then ripped her heart out to go start a family with his true mate. "You're the Alpha?" I questioned, knowing the answer at the way his wolf let out a small whine in my direction. His large paw lifted from the ground before he stomped it back down as if he were trying to tell me to walk over to him. "Your son, Oliver, is currently being held by your Luna. He was collected by your wolves two hours ago at the border. We ask that you demand his release and stop the war against my people in the M
