Chapter Sixty-four

Faelen’s POV

By the time we returned to the estate, the sun was high now. I felt lighter than I had in weeks, filled with a strange mix of calm and joy that only Hunter seemed to inspire.

The bond between us, whatever it was, had only deepened. Every touch, every brush of his hand, felt as if he were somehow a part of me.

Hunter walked me to my room, his steps slowing as we reached the door. He seemed ready to say goodbye, his hand hovering at his side.

I could feel the tension in him, that same heat hanging in my chest… and building between my legs. My heart beat faster that ever.

Knowing exactly what I wanted, even though nervous about it, I spoke. “Hunter,” I said softly, my voice influenced by the loud thumping of my heart. “Would you… would you like to come in?”

His eyes lit up immediately. He the hesitated a little, his eyes narrowing slightly, as if he was weighing a decision.

I could see him battling with himself, but he took a breath, then nodded. “Alright

Today was the day, the day I would be sent on my mission by Alpha Zodd.It was a rite of passage for every omega in the Belladonna Pack, and I had waited for this moment for three long years.Since my parents had passed away, both in an accident, Alpha Zodd had taken me in, but only as a ward.My omega status meant I lived apart from the Alpha’s estate where only members of the pack with higher status lived. Chapter TwoFaelen’s POVBack in my room, I quickly set to work preparing for the mission. I gathered the few belongings I was allowed to take and put on the dull, simple clothing that would help me blend in with the other servants. The outfit was plain and unremarkable, perfect for disguising me among the slaves. I checked my reflection in the mirror one last time, ensuring that everything was in place. I needed to look every bit the part of a maid.As I left my room, a heavy sense of responsibility weighed on me. The corridors of the estate felt different, quieter, as if they were aware of the change about to occur.I made my way to the field where the other servants, soon to be sold at the Howle Wulf pack, were gathered. The sight was both familiar and strange. I had spent years among servants, observing their ways and understanding their lives.Yet now, I was to become one of them, an outsider disguised among the oppressed. The carts, heavy and worn out, were being prepared for ou

Chapter ThreeFaelen’s POVSettling into my new role was both thrilling and terrifying. I recalled the tense moment with the senior maid, the change of events and unexpected outcome that placed me right where I needed to be… in the Alpha’s quarters, the palace, and even during events.I couldn’t believe I would be under the alpha’s nose, close enough to gather the crucial information I was sent for. The weight of my mission pressed down on me even as I thought about it. I knew that one mistake could lead to my immediate death.Despite my closeness to the Alpha, I had yet to set eyes on him. I had not yet had the opportunity to serve him directly, but I knew it was only a matter of time for that.Until then, I focused on my tasks, making sure that I blended in with the other servants. My duties included cleaning the Alpha’s quarters to serving food and drinks. Chapter FourHunter’s POVI woke up with my head pounding, feeling like there was a parade of drummers inside my skull. The events of the previous night came flooding back to me, including the excessive drinking I had partook in.Caleb had warned me not to overdo it, but I had ignored him, especially after that ridiculous incident with the maid spilling drinks on me. Just thinking about it made me clench my fists in anger. What an idiot she was. Didn’t she know who I was? The Alpha?I muttered to myself, “I could have her killed for something like that.” But deep down, I knew I wasn’t that kind of leader. When I took over from my father, I promised to rule with justice, but there was always a dark part of me that despised any form of weakness. I put up a tough, no nonsense demeanor to make sure that no one saw me as weak. Even though I wanted to be a better man, my position made it quite difficult.Sitting on the edge of the bed, I tried to get up, but the pounding in my head incre

Chapter SixHunter’s POVI couldn’t get her out of my head, and it pissed me off.Faelen, I had learned was the girl’s name. The name felt wrong in my mouth, like I was choking on it. It made no sense. She was just a lowly servant, and I was the Alpha of the Howle Wulf pack.I’d ruled this pack with an iron fist since my father’s death, and I’d never once let anyone question my authority. Women had always been easy, too easy for me, if I was being honest. They fell at my feet, desperate even for just a glance towards them, a touch. I could have had any of them, as I have always, but not as a mate. No, that was a word I’d always despised. And yet, this… this pull I felt toward her. It was confusing and even annoying. I’d heard the stories, the whispers of the mating bond. But I’d never believed it, not really. It had always seemed like a weakness to me, something that would tie me down, make me vulnerable. And I didn’t do vulnerable. But what if this was it? What if that’s what I was f

Chapter SevenHunter’s POVLeaving the training field, I felt the weight of my thoughts pressing still on me, making it hard to breathe. Faelen’s face flashed in my mind again, that damn girl, and I cursed under my breath.I needed a distraction, something to drown out this irritating pull I couldn’t shake. Drinking had always been a good way to forget, and maybe, if I was lucky, I’d find some pretty girl to occupy my mind and my bed with.Yes. That should do the trick.I made my way to the bar, the one I frequently visited when I needed to unwind. The place was small but classy, with low sounds of conversations and the clinking of glasses filling the air.As soon as I walked in, a few heads turned, but I ignored them, heading straight for the bar. I ordered a drink, something strong, whiskey, and downed it in one go, feeling the burn as it slid down my throat. It didn’t take long for Caleb to catch up to me. The room was dim, with just enough light creeping through the single window to remind me it was still daytime.I let out a heavy sigh, thinking about the girl who seemed to have made it her mission to make my life a living hell here. Lucy. The way she smirked when she saw me, the satisfaction in her eyes as she mocked me. it was clear she resented me just for being here. Her words stung me, and every time I came across her, I could actually see her anger and hatred for me.I squeezed my eyes, trying to hold back my frustration. “I didn’t mean to take your job, Lucy. It was a misunderstanding.” I remembered saying to her. “A misunderstanding?” she had sneered. “You think that matters now? You’re a thorn in my side, and I’m going to make sure you regret ever coming here.”I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. “Lucy, I get it. You’re angry. But taking it out on m

Now, here I was, in a place I’d once only dared to glance at from afar.As I sank onto the bed, a wave of relief washed over me, and for the first time in what felt like ages, I slept peacefully that night, free from worry about who might find me or what punishment awaited me next. The next morning, I woke up to a quiet knock at my door. This time, it wasn’t an interrogation. I wanted to hear her side of the story. When she entered the room, her face was calm, but I could see the weight of everything she carried in her eyes. She stood before me, beautiful as ever, her hands clasped in front of her, waiting for me to speak.“Faelen,” I began, my voice steady but firm. “I think it’s time you explain everything… why you were sent here, how you said Belladonna manipulated you.”She hesitated, her eyes shifting with a hin

A few trusted officers knew, and we were ready.Steeprock pack had been held back by our defense, their tactics no match for the preparations we had put in place. But the battle had taken its toll. I looked around at my pack mates… wounded, exhausted, but alive. Most of them. There were a few casualties, faces I knew well, warriors who had stood by me for years.
