Something was definitely wrong, was the same thing I kept telling myself as I stood behind the tall black curtains shielding the stage where hundreds of Pack members and guests were waiting for me. The night had surprisingly dawned earlier than I expected, I was going to be crowned Alpha. A wolfless man like me was going to take up my Father's mantle, a taboo, yet my father still insisted. My fears were growing at a choking pace, my entirety trembled like I was going to melt anytime soon yet I had to keep up this strong facade for the guards beside me not to notice. I tried to remember the words of my mother but it didn't soothe me one bit. This shouldn't be happening but at the same time I couldn't go against my father. He probably had his reasons for letting this coronation ceremony continue. But whatever it was, I could only hope it was good.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the moment is finally here, the dawn of a new reign in Silver Clawers Pack…” I heard the host’s voice pitch loud and clear. I inhaled deeply while the curtains gradually parted revealing the bright lights of the auditorium.
"You can do this Aaron." I mumbled to myself before proceeding to the stage.
“Please, let’s welcome the Alpha to be, son of Lycan Barron, Aaron Harrington!!”
The crowd burst into a loud chatter and with each step I climbed towards the stage, my heart thumped like it was going to explode any moment but I still kept my facade of a smile. The lights went off and the spotlight focused on me as I elegantly reached the stage. I didn’t focus on anybody in particular nor think about anything, all I told myself was, I could do this. The cheering increased drastically and I was beginning to lose my cool until some guards accompanied me to the center of the podium. They stood rigidly by my side, even though I found it choking it was at least better than standing alone.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you…” I stared at the host who was busy trying to tone down the crowd's excitement. “Now, the coronation ceremony shall begin. Please give me the honors to invite the elders.” He muttered while the lights fell on the five elders of my Pack seated beside my parents at the right hand side of the podium. But rather than come up, it was my father that stood instead. I frowned and silence reigned as he walked up to the stage. I stole a glance at the host and he was just as surprised too.
“Before the coronation of my son begins!” My father announced as he came to my side, he sent the guards away but he didn’t spare me a glance.
“I have an announcement to make.”
My eyes widened and my heart skipped a beat as he placed his hand on my shoulder. He gripped me so hard that I feared my bone might break and there I knew, My father was about to do something dangerous.
"Father, you're hurting me." I groaned in a whisper hoping he would release his iron grip but instead, his eyes gleamed a deadly shade of red, signalling his Alpha wolf was in control. I gasped, my heart was pounding loud in my ears.
"One more word from you and I'm going to pull that tongue of yours out." He growled and my breaths ceased instantly. Fear rigidly shook my spines while murmurs outburst amidst the crowds, they were just as perplexed as I was.
"What is the meaning of this Lycan Barron?" One of the elders challenged as he arose sharply.
My father huffed.
“My son has become wolfless!” He declared and my heart stopped. The crowd burst into a chatter, the looks on their faces were horrendous. None of them wanted to believe the words of their Lycan.
“He lost his wolf this morning and now he is nothing but a mere human!”
“The moon goddess forbids it!” The elders yelled exasperatedly. Their jaws dropped, they were clearly unable to hide the horror that had befallen them.
“How can this be?”
“Has the Lycan gone mad? That can’t possibly be true right?”
“Is this some sort of prank?”
“Since when did our Lycan start playing pranks on us?”
“I don’t want to believe this, our next Alpha can’t possibly be wolfless. The moon goddess cannot possibly award him such fate!”
Those were the whispers my ears could pick. The more I heard, the more it tore me inside out.
“And if you think I’m lying then watch closely!” My father pitched again. He turned to me with his dangerously overwhelming red eyes, his claws had protruded and I could see his canine gleaming slightly behind his lips.
“Father…” I gasped, his grip on my shoulder intensified till it cracked. I yelled whilst trying to break free from his hold. But he was just too powerful.
“Barron!” My mother screamed in tears as she ran towards us but the guards held her back immediately. He grinned devilishly at her and then his focus reverted to me. He grabbed my right arm and without mercy twisted it. I screamed my lungs out collapsing to the ground from the pain that scorched me like wildfire.
“Let me pass!” My mother growled, her eyes had changed to a bright golden yellow but the guards surrounding her only doubled in numbers.
“What is the meaning of this Lycan Barron?!” One of the elders yelled in disgust.
“Wh—Y?” I stuttered while I struggled to rise to my feet. It was the only question, the only thought that raged my mind.
He scoffed while his eyes reverted back to its hazel, his claws and canines were back to normal too. And then he walked away from me.
“Lycan Barron, give us an explanation for this!” One of the elders uttered.
“Isn’t this enough explanation for you all?” My father pointed to my struggling status. “By now, his wounds should have healed but look!”
I gasped for air but the more I did, the more it felt like I was losing my consciousness. The eyes that were boring holes in me, the shame, the pain, they were biting me so deep that I deeply wished I could disappear from here.
“His injuries aren’t healing in the slightest and if you still don’t believe me, tell him to summon his wolf.”
“Barron, please stop! Please!!” my mother begged, tears streaming out of her eyes like a gentle river but my father paid no heed. He had successfully done what he wanted.
“So it is true.” The first elder mumbled. “You have lost your wolf Aaron.”
I grunted, losing the will to even stand and face the crowd.
“Unfortunately my son has become a waste, who knows what kind of sin he has committed to have offended the moon goddess.” My father muttered as he walked to the front of the stage. “I am disappointed in myself, my son has caused my Pack to witness a taboo and I am greatly ashamed. I hereby declare that Aaron Harrington’s Alpha position be stripped off him…”
“Barron, NO!!” My mother screamed while the crowd began another round of chatter.
“He will be stripped off his privileges and duties to the Pack.”
“Father!”
“Barron!”
“And henceforth, I disown Aaron Harrington as my son. He shall have no relationship with the Harrington Family.”
My breaths ceased and my body trembled as if a dangerous voltage of electricity coursed through me. He didn’t even turn to face me, his back kept facing me as he spilled those words. He regarded me like the waste I was.
The crowd went silent that the sound of a pin falling would even be heard.
“Aaron knew he was wolfless yet he still went ahead with the coronation. It clearly shows how greedy and deceitful he is and who knows what he will do once he becomes Alpha? No doubt he is going to destroy everything I have built. He is going to cause the downfall of Silver Clawers Pack because he wasn’t destined to be Alpha in the first place. This position, my successor is not him.”
“Then who is your successor because we all know you have no other child.” One of the elders queried sharply.
My father laughed.
“Members of Silver Clawers and my esteemed guests, please I would like us to welcome my successor!” He pointed to the backstage. The curtains parted once again, the lights fell on two figures. One was Maria, my father’s concubine and the other was a stunning young man who I presumed was around the same age as mine. His hair was a dazzling shade of black like Maria and his eyes were hazel just like my father’s. Although he was donning a white suit just like my father, I could tell he was heavily built. Both of them were smiling as if they were seeing fireworks for the first time. I closed and opened my eyes several times just to ascertain I wasn’t dreaming. But sadly I wasn’t, this was truly my replacement! I kept watching them in awe as they walked past me to meet my father, it was like I didn’t even exist at all.
“Levi Harrington, the new Alpha of Silver Clawers Pack.” My father declared. My jaw dropped, the crowd murmured.
“Harrington?” An elder challenged with a sharp frown.
“Yes.” My father curled his left arm around Levi's shoulder. “My son and his mother are right here too.” He pointed to Mariah.
Son? I had a step brother! How?! When?! I looked to my mother but she was just as perplexed as I was.
“Is this a joke or something? Mariah we know but this boy we know not. I stand to be corrected but this Levi boy, I have never seen him in our Pack before.” Another elder blurted with a sharp frown.
“I apologize for this confusion but my son Levi was sent to his mother’s pack the moment he was born. He was born with a special type of wolf and his mother's Pack was the only right place to train him, we didn't know if he was going to survive or not so we kept his birth a secret. But now, he is back to reclaim his rightful position.
Levi Harrington will be the new Alpha of Silver Clawers Pack!” My father raised his hand, the crowd were quiet for a while but then the host started clapping and cheering. And just like that, the crowd joined him. The lights focused on the three of them, My father, his concubine and my step brother.
I didn’t know why but I started replaying that moment where my father had encouraged me to press on with the coronation. He was acting so lovingly back then that I felt I could trust him. My father wasn’t someone nice. I knew something was wrong with the way he acted. If only my mother didn't stop me from absconding the Pack, I wouldn’t be alive to witness the greatest shame of my life.
Tears freely toured out of my eyes and as my blurry vision returned to the three of them, I had only one question in mind. Why? Why did he choose to do this to me?
Somebody started clapping and the noise seemingly died down.
"I must really say that this is the most shameful coronation I have ever witnessed!" A lady's voice suddenly pitched. My eyes darted to one of the front rows before the stage and there she was standing a few meters before the stage. Her grey eyes gleamed of nothing but anger and her long black hair glowed as if they were just polished, her lips were small and rosy red, perfectly complimenting her beauty. This lady was definitely not from my Pack.
"Excuse me?" My father queried in a slight growl.
"You heard me well, Lycan Barron." She retorted without an iota of fear. "Being the prestigious Lycan of Europe, I expected more from you but after what I just saw now. I must say you're nothing but a shameful father!" She raised her voice and silence raked everywhere.
I heard my father growl, although I could not see his face but I knew his Alpha wolf was probably in control by now. No one dared to insult my father and go scot free. And so, who was this lady? I pondered. Why would she dare to publicly insult the Lycan?!
Something was different about Silver Clawers Pack, I could feel it. This wasn't the first time I was stepping into this Pack but tonight, it was another story entirely. The winds were howling to my ears as if they were trying to tell me something. I couldn't phantom what but I knew it was something good in a way."Could you speed up Diana?! We are already late! We can do the sightseeing later." Ana's voice tousled my thoughts."Oh come on, we're not that late." I rolled my eyes with a chuckle minting alongside. She rewarded me with a frown instantly."The coronation began at eight and look at the time now…" She impatiently pointed to her phone's lock screen showing forty minutes past eight. "Can you see the number of missed calls I'm getting from David?!" She gestured towards the call log."Well this wouldn't have happened if you had just chosen a dress easily in the first pl
"I don't care if you're the Lycan, I don't care how much power you wield. Nobody, absolutely no one has the right to treat my mate in this manner!" She snarled.Mate? My head sparked as those words echoed in my head. This beautiful lady I couldn't take my eyes off was my mate? How did my life come to this? From one trouble to another. First, I had lost my wolf and then I met my step brother who I was just meeting for the first time. My father openly revealed my secret and now this! I gulped down my saliva with several thoughts scaling my mind. But the most obvious one was why? Why did the moon goddess mate me with someone else when I already had one? Was my life suddenly a plaything in the hands of the moon goddess. I closed my eyes dearly hoping once again that this whole thing was simply a nightmare but my mind wandered back to the morning I discovered I lost my wolf. ****"Iris…" I stuttered while my mate sat on my thighs as she faced me. Her irresistible scent swept past me like
“Mate or not. I’m going to punish her, Aaron!” “Father please...” I pleaded but the old man wriggled his head. “My decision is final. I will not tolerate the insult she has rewarded me with today.” He reinstated and Levi smiled. My brows couldn’t help but arch in a slight frown, I just met him for the first time yet he acted like he found pleasure in my sufferings. But that wasn’t what I should be worrying about, my new mate was in trouble. “I’m begging you. At least consider the fact that I’m your son.” I mumbled but the look on his face showed just how unwavering his resolve was. I inhaled deeply and without thinking I ran down the stage to her side. I didn’t even wait for her reaction, I grabbed her right hand as I stood beside her. I heard her gasp but I focused my gaze on my father and his minions on the stage. “If you’re going to punish her, then you would have to go through me first!” I yelled and my father growled. “Guards!” My father barked and about seven men encircled
"Open the damn door!" He yelled with a loud bang causing the door to tremble. My body jolted slightly in fear, I needed no one to tell me that whoever was behind that door was definitely bad news. We both knew that yet my mate stood up."You're not going to answer that door are you?" I queried as I quickly reached for her wrist. She frowned. "We both know whoever is before that door wants to cause trouble. There's no way I'm allowing you face that." I said while I struggled through the pain to stand."Aaron, you're injured. Fighting in this state is only going to worsen things." She toned worriedly but I didn't listen. Instead, I wobbled towards the door. "Aaron…" She called again, holding my left wrist causing me to stop."Didn't you hear me?!" The person barked and she turned my face to hers, staring into my eyes deeply with a smile that silently assured me."I can handle it." She said softly and at that point, I felt the need to trust her. I nodded slowly and she proceeded to the d
My phone screen brightened as we sauntered into the hotel room. It was past three in the morning and the notifications on my phone were filled with nothing but missed calls from Ana and my father. She was definitely worried about my whereabouts but I wasn't in the mood to speak to her. So much had happened tonight that all I wanted was to rest on that king size bed before me.My gaze wandered to Aaron who wobbled to the edge of the bed to sit. He sighed heavily as he rubbed his hand through his hair in a frantic manner. At least he was in much better shape now; after an hour's journey, I had to drive him to the nearest hospital to treat his broken shoulder and bruises. "How are you feeling now?" My voice chorused softly as I sat by his side. He gleamed with a slight nod. "Better..." He whispered. I smiled for a brief moment. "Thankfully the extent of your injuries wasn't extreme, you should be fine within a week." "Yeah..." He whispered again but his sadness was clearly hinting i
The sounds of the birds tweeting coupled with the sun rays illuminating the room forced my eyes open. I took deep breaths while I stared at the bedsheet with blank thoughts. It wasn't like I slept in the first place. All through the night, I couldn't stop thinking about the injustice my father had bestowed on me. I wondered how my mother was faring too, she was probably not in a good condition like I was.I turned to my left and there she was sleeping with a bit of frown anchoring her face. She looked beautiful regardless. I moved closer, closing the gap between us and I felt her warm breaths gently swarm across my face. Her black hair had fallen into a mess and my right hand moved on impulse. I slowly placed the loose strands of her hair behind her ear. My eyes fell on her small red lips and I instantly remembered how she had kissed me last night. I gulped down my saliva as I popped my head closer. My fingers gently trailed across her ear to her cheek. I felt a burning sensation spro
"Diana! Oh thank goodness you're okay!" Ana hugged me immediately as she entered my room. She could almost squeeze the life out of me. Her comfort was the only thing that could calm me at this point. Aaron had left this morning and I was losing it, I didn't even know where or how to find him? What state he was in right now? The only thing that felt right was calling Ana."I called you several times, I texted, Your father called, I had to lie to him that you are fine. You have no idea how worried I was. I thought, I thought...""I'm fine Ana." I assured her with a smile imprinted on my face but she refused to let go. The door opened again and I exchanged knowing glances with her mate, David. Only then did she finally separate from me."How could you do that to me?" She lamented with a childish frown. "Why didn't you pick my calls? Look how messy you are, did anyone mess with you? Are you fine?!" She kept asking questions upon questions that only made me feel more relief."I am..." I wh
"I hate you. You and your mother have always been a pain in the neck and I'm grateful to the moon goddess for punishing you like this." My palms curled and my teeth gritted as those words echoed in my head. It burned like hell and more than ever, I hated myself saying those words. I stared outside through the window of my office but all I could see was the pain that reflected in my son's eyes. I betrayed him, I humiliated him, I hurt him, there was no way he was going to forgive me. I heaved a deep sigh, if only there was another way, I would have treated him and his mother better. But sadly, this was my fate, my burden, my secret to bear; that I didn't hate Iris and Aaron but I loved them greatly. The door to my office creaked open and Mariah trudged inside. I turned away from the window only to be welcomed by her smile. I feigned a smile too while I returned to my swivel chair before the desk."Isn't it a good time to be alive..." She chirped as she approached me. "Today, our son is
AARON “Save you from what?” I queried and she sighed as another wave of sadness gleamed in her eyes. “My father is sick and that gives the impression that our Pack is weak. Enemies are lurking around and it won’t be long before they strike,” she mumbled and my brows arched into a deeper frown. “As the only child of the Alpha, I need to find a mate to become the new Alpha of the Pack, or else, my family will lose our royal position as bearers of the Alpha title…” her voice trailed off. “I don’t have a lot of time left, Aaron, the pressure is getting worse and it won’t be long before my father and I are stripped of our positions.” “So you need me to become your mate and your Alpha,” I completed her statement for her and she gave a slight nod with eyes that beamed with uncertainty. “What is the name of your Pack again?” “Red Moon Pack.”“Your blood can heal anything, why can’t you just heal your father and he can carry on as the Alpha?” Another sigh left her breath. “We’ve tried it
DIANA “Diana!!” That was the last thing I heard before I yielded to the darkness calling to me. My eyes faintly opened to the wooden ceilings. The room was dark and small but it was dimly illuminated by a lantern on the shelf by the corner of the room. I turned and the small bed creaked. I frowned wondering how I had gotten here in the first place. The last thing I remembered was feeding Michael my blood to save him. I thought only a few drops would have been able to save him but who knew it required more to save him from the brink of death? I sat up on the bed, inspecting the room. There was nothing in the room besides the bed and shelf. There were two scents lingering outside, Michael and Aaron.I gulped down my saliva wondering if Michael survived but that thought tousled the moment I heard footsteps coming towards the wooden door. It creaked open slowly and my breaths ceased for a split moment seeing Michael saunter into the room.“You’re awake,” his gentle tone carried relief wh
AARON“Aaron!” Diana yelled behind me but I trotted away from her in a flash. Perhaps it was the fact that Fenris was dwelling in me, I felt it to the core that woman was my mate. The bond was even stronger than the one I ever had with my first mate. I hadn’t accepted her yet but it felt like we were destined ages ago. Yet I ran away, my legs wouldn’t stop pacing farther and farther away from her. I do not know what the moon goddess has in store for me but the last thing I ever wanted right now was a mate. If the moon goddess even cared about me in the first place I wouldn’t be in this shit hole in the first place. “Aaron!” I heard her yell behind me again and I increased my pace in the woods. No matter how stubborn she was, I would do everything in my power to never accept Diana in my life. I don’t know how much time drifted by as I ran but I had finally shaken her off my trail. A part of me was worried for her but I didn’t want to listen to those emotions. I had a lot to deal with
"Aaron!" I cried and my mate barked at Maverick."Aaron? I-i t-thought you were Wolfless?" Maverick trembled in fear as he arose from me. I quickly shifted away from Maverick while Aaron stealthily approached him. The aura surrounding him somehow reminded me of when I met his father at the coronation ceremony."P-lease, this i-is just a misunderstanding..." Maverick stammered but Aaron lurched at him like a beast. He didn't even give Maverick the chance to transform into his werewolf form. I watched in horror as Aaron's Wolf clawed Maverick to the ground. Ripping his limb one by one with his jaw. And soon, Maverick's cries were no longer heard. The only thing left was a snarling wolf, scattered limbs and blood splattered everywhere. His Wolf focused on me, growling at me like I was his meal. There was so much bloodlust in his eyes and I wondered,Was this truly my mate? Wasn't Aaron Wolfless? How did that innocent person I once knew become this bloodthirsty?"A-aron, it's me..." I stu
"Is he worth it?" Maverick, my father's closest guard asked as we struggled past the trees and its branches. My gaze diverted from the map in my hands to him. I frowned at him and he shrugged. This was the first time in so many days he was speaking to me about Aaron. It's been four days now and we were yet to get to the forbidden lands. Left for me, I would have preferred to face this journey alone but my father wouldn't let me. If he could have his way, he would have accompanied me personally."I mean I don't need to tell you that the forbidden land is a dangerous place. There's a high possibility we might not survive once we get there." He continued but he only made anger sprout in me."No offence but all this troubles for a Wolfless man isn't worth it.""You know, I preferred the version of you that was silent." I retorted and he heaved a light sigh."It's the obvious truth, Diana. I know how long you've been looking for a mate. You're bound to get desperate just to save your fathe
"Aaron, wake up! Aaron! Aaron!"My eyes squinted open to the bright lights coming from the skies. Although my vision was blurry, I could see a figure above me, tapping my cheeks relentlessly. The voice was familiar but I also couldn't remember who this person was. My insides were in turmoil as if there was a storm striding inside of me. But beneath this disorderliness came pain spiralling across my body violently. I could also feel a bond, something was growing inside me, it was changing me by the seconds."Aaron! Come on man, wake up!" The voice yelled. Michael! I finally recognized him. But I was still confused, perhaps it was due to the terrible migraine raging in my head. I tried to move a muscle whilst recalling what happened. But none of my actions seemed to work, My muscles were stiff and I was basically not in control of my body."Aaron!" He called, I screamed and my body began to tremble violently from the pain that skyrocketed within me."Aaron what's wrong?!" Michael yelled
"Aaron Harrington, I've been waiting for you."My brows arched upwards as I stared dumbfounded at the skeleton."H-how-- how do you know my name?" I dared to ask."I've known you ever since you were born. Son of Lycan Barron." His voice came out in a deep baritone that only managed to ground fear in my heart."No-- no, I must be seeing things. I must be!" I slapped my cheeks repeatedly hoping I would break free from this terrible illusion but nothing happened."You'll only be hurting yourself more. You know it yourself, ever since you came into my land you've felt my presence." He said and I stopped with my eyes twitching at it."Get out of my head." I gritted. The Skeleton laughed. "Get out!" I yelled and it growled. My breaths ceased immediately, somehow I knew if I said something wrong again, I was going to get punished. Yet my brain wouldn't stop racking up so many questions."Who are you?" My curiosity peaked so much that my lips moved on their own. "How do you know me?"The Skel
"You're a failure!""A waste!""A pathetic son!""You failed your Pack, you failed me!""You're weak and I hate you for that!""I curse the day I knew you as my son!"My eyes opened only to see my mother a few meters before me spitting those heart wrenching words."Mom?" I toned in confusion. The entire room was dark but I could see her clearly. She was in pain, her eyes had swollen from so much tears, her gaze on me completely defined resentment."You don't deserve to call me that!" She warned and tears began to itch my eyes."I thought you were dead." I tried to approach her but she retreated further into the darkness."Death should have taken you instead." She spat back."Don't say that. Please don't." I mumbled in a shaky voice."If you hadn't failed me, If you weren't so weak, I would still be alive today."Tears trickled across my cheek as those words phased through my ears. "You're right. I failed you. I'm so sorry mom. I wish I could have done better. I wish I was there to pro
"Michael!" I yelled but only the birds around tweeted in response. "Michael!" I called again, looking around the blood trails on the leafy grounds. Something terrible must have happened to him. Perhaps he was attacked by a mysterious animal or something."Michael!" I yelled again, this time my heart was already thumping loud. As much as I hated to admit it, I was worried about him. I waited for several minutes hoping he would answer but he didn't. I stared at the tent and back at the forest. I heaved a deep sigh whilst concluding I was going to search for him. I couldn't just leave, not after these blood trails."Michael!" I called one last time and suddenly the bushes by my side twitched. I heard the sound of twigs crushing and footsteps getting louder with each second. I took a defensive stance even though my body was trembling in fear. I suddenly lost my cool and the next thing that my brain told me to do was run. Whatever was behind those bushes probably hurt Michael and consideri
