I woke up to Melody scampering off the bed, running toward the bathroom. As my eyes adjusted to the morning light and before she disappeared behind the door, I caught a glimpse of one hand covering her mouth. Without wasting time, I jumped off, then padded on the area rug, following her. She had left the door half-way open, enough for me to see her bending over the toilet bowl, heaving.

The acrid smell of her stomach contents hit my nostrils as she made gagging sounds. "Melody?" I pushed the door open and rushed to her side, listening to the sounds of her vomit hitting the water in the bowl. I helped her up when she was done, flashed the toilet, and then led her to the sink. I held her as she rinsed her mouth and then brushed her teeth without saying a word to me. My brows seemed to furrow permanently as she stumbled forward when she bent to wash her face.

"Please talk to me. How are you feeling?" I literally begged, snaking my arm around her waist to her lower belly to kee
