Humming to herself, she swayed herself to and fro on the swing, using her legs as a powerful momentum to push herself forward. The other kids stayed away from the swing, just because the quiet belligerent girl was there. She didn't mind, it was better that way. The less company she has, the fewer people know about her… “condition”. Maybe one day, just one day, she'll be able to have a friend that will understand her and love her for who she is.

"Darling!" The shrill voice of her mother echoed in the playground. Turning her head, she located her mother standing at the entrance/exit of the playground, waving her hand vigorously. A basket of green apples was in her other hand, swinging and hitting the side of her leg due to her energetic movement. The girl smiled, admiring the beautiful yellow flare dress on her mother's body. She made that dress for her mother.

Jumping down from the swing, she smoothened her little pleated red skirt with a little dust and ran over to her mother. "Hello, Mother, I can see the flea market shopping went well for you."

"Very well," her mother giggled, "have you seen my apples, darling? They're green!"

"Yes, I can see that, Mother," she chuckled, following her mother out. "You bought only apples?"

"And guavas and soursops and something called African star apples! I can't wait to try them!" She shrieked, swinging the basket way too much. The girl smiled. It was rare to see her mother smile so much. Ever since the shift, her predicament had sucked their happiness. As painful as it is, she had to ruin the moment by saying what had been troubling her for days.

"Mum, there's something I have to tell you, something serious. It's about Zinnia." She started, looking at her feet, so she won't have to see the glee disappear from her mother's face. Her mother paused for a couple of seconds, before sighing.

"What about Zinnia?"

"She said something four days ago that bothered me," she raised her head, looking up at her mother. "That if we do find our mate, she will never let me know."

_______

A couple of hours into driving, the vehicles stopped at a gas station to refuel. I stepped out of the SUV and went inside with Scarlette, to change from my uncomfortable dress. The gas station sold some clothes, so Scarlette bought me a pair of acid green A-line jean shorts, a pale magenta-pink bustiere top and white Converse all-star trainers, with the star matching the shorts. She lent me a pretty thin white kimono jacket and helped me weave my hair into a French plait. It was the first time I was wearing something that beautiful and having my hair in such a neat hairstyle.

I didn't know if the alpha would be mad that an omega would dress so nice, but they seem nice enough to let me do what I wanted to do. I couldn't help how happy I was when I bounced back to the vehicles. Scarlette later told me that he was the one who paid for the outfit. No one had ever bought me anything, not since I was born. Well, other than Scarlette. My body moved on its own towards him. I found myself preening in front of him, bouncing with excitement and holding the jacket apart for him to see.

He was nice enough to nod with a smile. "You look beautiful, more than before." I giggled, bouncing away to show Everett my new outfit. He responded with a pat on my head while Cooper took a picture. When the vehicles were ready to move again, I was busy showing all the warriors who came with them and the people around, my new outfit. Don't blame me, nobody had ever shown me such an act of kindness, apart from my mother. Even Scarlette refrained from buying me such because then, I would have been punished for dressing pleasant.

I already had hope that maybe life wouldn't be too hard. Alpha Ajax took my hand and pulled my excited and energetic body back to the SUV. Maybe it was the excitement or the fact that he was an alpha, I didn't care to check. All I knew was that I loved the sparks and the feeling that came from where he held me. It was nice, really nice.

"Sit still," he ordered when I refused to stop bouncing and showing him my shoes. "Yes, they are beautiful but calm down. If you're like this, how would you behave when I get you more?" A gasp left my mouth at the statement. I grabbed his bicep and shook him with excitement. He was going to buy me more? I imagined myself with my very own wardrobe with a lot of clothes inside. The joy from possessing what I'd never had the privilege to acquire was already taking over my once gloomy self.

Mother, your daughter is feeling hopeful. Is that a good thing?

I shouldn't be that happy, he seemed smart. He was able to detect that Scarlette wasn't human. Why hasn't he detected my wolf? Or has he already guess and is trying to bribe me? Make me feel safe enough to trust him with my secret? No, I can't tell him. The moment he finds out, I'd be killed. His pack comes before anyone else, not a silly omega like me. The thought alone buried my excitement. I shifted away from him, sucking on my bottom lip. He might be nice, but not nice enough to let me live if he finds out what I am. He can never know.

Sighing, I placed my head on the window and stared at the road, the vehicles, and the people. I stared at everything that came my way; the trees and animals when we entered the secure area I could tell was his pack. Zinnia was awfully quiet, not sleeping but not awake either. The last time I checked on her, she said she didn't feel too good. She said it could be his powerful aura trying to force her to expose herself, so we agreed to be extra careful and silent when around him.

When I mentioned that Alpha Ajax is different from the other alphas and possesses rare elements more than two, I meant it. He was the first alpha to possess the element of lightning and thunder combined, a couple of other new kinetic abilities and many said he had hidden elements only his trusted pack members knew of. According to the stories and history, his ancestor was the first alpha to get kinetic blessing and start the revolution against the enemy in the past. As the first, they had more blessings and over the years, they got stronger to the point of being just battle beasts.

I already read that the powers bestowed on them came with consequences, but I never bothered to know what. Well, until I heard it from Eloise and Co. They had no mates for their hearts are not made to love anything other than war. Well, that's a brutal punishment.

I wonder if he indeed had hidden elements. Maybe that element is what will expose me.

Almost three hours after leaving the gas station, we finally arrived at the pack. I was astonished by the remarkable size and how civilised the pack was. The buildings weren't skyscrapers or mansions, just really good houses, like a small town. It was better, larger, and more sophisticated than my original pack. Immediately the pack members saw the vehicles, they bowed their heads while the young pups waved and shouted, "Alpha's back"!, "Alpha! Alpha!"

The vehicles drove through the town for eight minutes before parking in front of the main pack house. I could tell it was the main because it was the only mansion I'd seen so far. People were already trooping out of the mansion, some waving and chattering as the warriors stepped out. Mates reunited, and children welcomed their fathers and greeted the alpha. I hesitated in stepping out, along with Scarlette. We were the only ones still inside.

"Is it me, or is Beta Cooper happy?" I heard from the crowd. In fact, most of them were talking about how happy and usual he was. They were expecting him to be sad or something.

"I'm nervous," Scarlette said with a nervous chuckle, rubbing the back of her neck. "That's a lot of people. Think I can do it?" I gave her a thumbs-up and grinned. I didn't need to worry that much, accepting me is a minor issue. I would either be accepted or rejected, but hers was important. She is after all their new Beta Female. "Thanks, Sapphire."

"Brie!" Cooper's squeal made us both look at them. He tackled a heavily pregnant woman with a hug, a surprised woman at that. "I found her! I found her! I finally found her!"

"Well, that's my cue. Wish me luck." Scarlette rolled the door open and stepped out, stretching on her toes with a happy bounce. Cooper pointed at her while giggling like a little boy. I nervously dragged my butt to the door to step out too.

"Scarlette, come meet my big sister!" Scarlette chuckled and walked over to them while I stepped out of the car, nervously putting my head down.

Breathe, Sapphire. The least they would do is hurt you.

I flinched when I heard a shriek. My heart almost left me. The pregnant woman was hugging Scarlette tight and shrieking, also spluttering words I can't comprehend. Everett was busy making out with a lady. He already has a mate. Sadly, I looked back at my shoes. I remained like that until someone cleared his throat, forcing all noise down.

"Well, as you all can see, our mission was successful. The newest member of the pack is your Beta's mate, Scarlette Cinder. The official welcoming ceremony will begin in a week after she proves her worth and loyalty to the pack. I want you all to note that before she is officially made the Beta Female, all respect must be given to her as your Beta's mate. No disrespect or insult is allowed to reach her ears because she has full right to deal with any disrespect according to the ways of a Beta Female. I will also let you know that she might look like a mere human, but she is a hunter. Don't come to me if she shoves a sword into your heart." There were a few murmurs here and there before it quieted down.

"And who is the other one?"

She lay on the bed, kicking her legs in the air as she coloured her drawing. It didn't come out as planned, but it did look similar to what she pictured in her head. Her short hair was messed up and unnecessarily filled with pins. She hummed, tapping her chin thoughtfully with her head tilted to the side to observe her work. It was still missing something. Sunshine. She picked her yellow coloured pencil and drew a big bright sun. Once she was done, she sat up, sitting on her knees and holding the drawing book up. The little girl in a sunflower dress and bright red heels, playing under the big bright sun, was happy. She had nothing to worry about, she had no fear and felt no pain. The girl was surrounded by friends, all three skipping along with her in their floral dresses and their different shoe colours. They were skipping to her mother, who sat under the only tree in the drawing, smiling with her head tilted upward to the sun. The people in the picture were happy, free, and surround

Do you know that feeling when you are not used to something? How do you feel when something you are used to doesn't happen as expected? Well, that is how I felt. I was bothered beyond reasoning. Why was he being so nice? People aren't that nice. I was a hundred percent sure he didn't know I could shift, Zinnia was sure too. Then what? I wasn't feeling any amorous intent from him. Trust me, I would know. My mind flooded with thoughts as I arranged my clothes, and then I showered. I mean, I had my own modern en suite with a large tub and everything was good. I wasn't used to such luxury, not even when my mother was alive. After washing up, I dressed up and lay on the bed to rest my head. But then, the soft bouncy bed was just too comfortable, so I slept off with my legs hanging from the edge. When I woke up laying properly in the bed, the sheet over my body, I was stunned by how I felt. No one can ever get close to me when I sleep, let alone, touch me. I was always jumpy, always on ale

She stared at the night sky, the few stars twinkling above the full moon. The moonlight shone down on her as if paying her and only her attention. She chuckled amid her gentle crooning, turning her gaze to the head on her thighs. His soft red hair lay scattered on her thighs, her fingers rubbing the surface of his hard but raspberry-scented scalp. She always loved running her fingers into his hair. The man lay on the ground, one leg crossed over his propped-up knee, eyes closed and fingers drumming on the ground. He could tell she was trying to cover up her worry, trying to hide the fact that the news of her pregnancy wasn't bothering her at all. He knew otherwise because he knew her; he felt her. She was the other piece of his soul, his life, his dream. He knew exactly what was bothering her, he knew she had the right to be worried, but he also wanted her not to. Why worry about what is inevitable? Why worry about something that would happen in years? Having the strong urge to calm

The young boy stood in the foyer of his bedroom, staring at a large portrait on the wall. The portrait was of his mother, the beautiful woman he wasn't that privileged to know much about. He was only four when she died, and six when he found out why. Now, at eight, he was still wondering and trying to accept the truth of the reason and the curse he calls a life. He had so many unanswered questions, so many thoughts and facts that he could never and would never be able to understand, fathom and conclude. Yet, he wished he could get the answer to just one question. "Hendrix," sighing almost inaudibly, he slowly turned his head to look at his father, the only one that can answer that one question, or maybe two. His father looked at the portrait and scowled. The only true reason he still had her pictures painted on the wall was because of his son, but it was starting to get annoying. "I should get that portrait to your room, so I don't have to see it. Now what is bothering you this time?"

"A Luna is essential for a pack's survival. It is absolutely crucial that by the time you get to the age of twenty-five, you find a mate at all costs." The man educated his son with a warning tone. The boy rolled his eyes, bored of hearing his father repeat the thing he called nonsense over and over again. "I'm serious, Hendrix! An alpha can sustain a barrier for as long as he is below twenty-five. The moment he turns twenty-five, his primal nature begins to detect the lack of soul piece because then, his powers would increase and focus more on grounding it, on projecting to his battle skills. The increase in power creates a void in his soul, damaging his barrier magic because barrier magic comes from the soul. That is when his other half is needed to push the weight of the barrier to her and support her mate. I repeat it is crucial, Hendrix. You can hold it up for as long as you think you can, but eventually, the barrier would weaken to the point even an omega rogue can pass through

Her feet crushed the branches and twigs beneath them, her hands pushing away all in her path. She had a mission, a mission to seek what disturbed her dreamless nap. She was fast asleep when she perceived it, fast asleep when her wolf felt it. Someone was in their special spot. It was late into the night, far into midnight. The moon was full and wide, almost as if angry about something and decided to show that thing who is bigger and brighter. Her feet pushed her forward, her wolf growled at the thought of them finding her special place and ruining it for them. That was the only place they had left, the last piece of their sanity. That place encouraged them after their mother's death. They couldn't risk anyone finding and taking a liking to it. She already knew what she would do when she got there. It involved blood. The sweet scent of sweet peas and rock rose, and a hint of rosemary, with a slight—barely noticeable—smell of hawthorn, guided her path. She didn't need to follow the sce

"Who are you?" The Redhead asked the smaller-looking girl staring back at her with her big sapphire eyes. Even with the poor lighting, she could see the beautiful blue orbs of the stranger glowing in the night. She'd never seen eyes like that before. Yes, she had seen sapphire blue eyes, but not sapphire gemstone eyes. It was beautifully odd. The shifter female straightened her head and smiled, before turning and walking over to the fire. The redhead followed her, wondering what the girl was going to do. She could tell that the shifter was probably a year or two younger than her, or maybe poor nutrition had slowed her growth. She was surprised by her sudden fascination with the young pup. The shifter tossed away the burnt fish, then reached for the remaining three fish in the basket. The redhead quickly sat down and watched as the shifter skillfully and diligently dealt with her fish. Her eyes followed the shifter when she stood up at some point and moved around, picking things from

Well, so far, it has been exceptionally stressful but fun. Again, for a pregnant woman, Brie sure had stamina. They took us from one shop to the other, making me try on clothes I never thought would be possible to be in my wardrobe. They didn't even have to force Scarlette, she was more than willing to try on everything that crossed her path. I changed clothes so much that my hands felt like they were going to fall off. And just when I thought we were done, they moved on to shoes. I tried to silently tell them that I wouldn't be able to wear everything, I only needed a few clothes. But did they listen? No, they did not. My opinion didn't matter, especially when I couldn't talk. So, I sat down and tried every shoe they brought to me, modelled every they wanted me to until my feet ached. Then, once that torture was over, they moved me over to gloves and hats. "A woman can never have too many hats," Brie said. I tried on scarves, bags that I doubt I would use, socks—I'm talking about th

I sighed as I stood up straight, putting my fist on the side of my waist and wiping the sweat out of my forehead with my other hand. "Phew!" That'll be all for shoes. Now what else am I missing?I looked around, calculating everything I packed and what else I needed. Hendrix sighed for the umpteenth time. He claimed I was overdoing the packing but he didn't understand. This vacation was important to me. A girl can't be too prepared. I need to make sure I have everything and anything. "We can just buy whatever you need if you end up missing something. We'll only be staying there for a week, Sapphire. I had to be going crazy because there was no other explanation as to why I could hear Zinnia's voice in my head. I've never imagined my life without Zinnia. I'd gotten so used to her that I couldn't remember how it felt without her. I was reminded the hard way. I could feel the emptiness in my head the moment I opened my eyes. I felt naked and alone. The silence in my head left an incessant ringing in my ears and my mind was just there, empty. The intense feeling of emptiness devoured me so much that even when I noticed the shackles on my hands and legs and realised that I was in an unfamiliar surrounding, I couldn't care less. I was so nonchalant and unperturbed, but all I could do was sit down with my knees to my chest and stare into space. Zinnia was gone and I was alone in a dungeon, unaware of who my abductors were.I hadn't come in contact with anyone since I was locked away. My food was given to me through the doggy hole twice every day but water came once a day. I no longer had a wolf, I no longer had the powers of a blood wolf or a werewolf. I was just a luna with a barrier and healing

‘This is useless,’ Alaric said flatly as I flimsily held up the last book with a slight knowledge of Selene's offspring. Just like the rest, it only had information about things we already know. No artefacts, no books, nothing. What is the use of coming here?Jerry sighed and tossed away the book in his hand. "What a waste of time,""Tell me about it. Let's just leave, it's useless at this point," Gil grumbled. "Not even the slightest clue about any of her children who laid a curse or anything that gives a hint of it. We could be missing something—""We are not, I would know," I said firmly, dropping the hard book on the table.‘I feel weird,’ Alaric said with a whimper, scratching at the barrier of my mind. We've felt that way from the moment we stepped into the temple. Chills ran up and down my spine, making me constantly shiver. Hugging my body did not help. I walked out of the tree, completely horrified. The reason why Zinnia knew so much, the reason why she was so different was because she was the soul of the curse Deianira created. I was petrified by it. I had most of the important memories from my life as Milena which consisted mostly of my time with Dad, a few times with my subordinates, and the time I spent finding an end to the curse. Most of my memories were of me as Sapphire.Sapphire is more human than Milena, and humans feel more emotions, they are vulnerable to pain. Sapphire had more attachment with many, unlike Milena whose world only revolved around Sapphire's father. The point was that I grew up with Zinnia. She wasn't just my wolf, she was a bigger part of my soul and I just learned that to end the long-lasting suffering, I needed to kill her. It was basically telling me to murder my sister, mother, friend, and child.I would have

I wiped off sweat from my forehead as I walked out of the room to find Scarlette. A lot of my memories were still missing and I knew exactly where I could get them. “Scarlette, where are you?”“The garden outside. There's something strange about it,” that was where I was going. I broke into a run. Finding my way was easier because I knew every corner of this castle. I stayed in it alone for years. One thing I now remember, the willow tree in Drix's garden is a fragment of the mother tree in my mother's gemstone garden. Then the pixie who happened to have been in danger must not have been a coincidence. She intentionally appeared there to create the gemstone garden already knowing I'd arrive someday. The original was far more magnificent than the copy. The garden was more like a forest, comparable to Brasher but bigger. Then she named the centre a garden. Different trees made of different gemstones and minerals stood firmly, with bushes, flowers, and other ground crops also made out of

My heart felt strange. There was a sense of familiarity to the castle and my heart didn't feel well about it. It felt bitter. Just like the cave, the walls were filled with pictures of Hiems, the person he was before he reincarnated. But unlike Liviana's, the pictures were decent and passionate, and a woman was with him in some of the pictures. The first time I saw her, I halted and stared at her with hatred. I couldn't tell why I felt that way but I've never felt the capacity of hatred as I felt for her. She had long sleek back hair that looked exactly like a moonless night with stars scattered all over the sky. Her eyes were more like galactic starry night than the galaxy itself.
