“Once he marks you, you will no longer be able to reach me though our mind link, since you will become a member of the Silver Adder pack.” My father tells me as we stand in the foyer of the Silver Adder pack house. “But I am always a simple phone call away.” He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a cell phone and hands it to me. I looked down at the device. I’d never needed a phone before. My father had one and there was one in the pack house to contact people who were not in the Lunarflare pack, but I had always just been able to mind link with whoever I wanted to talk to.

My father pulled me in close and kissed my forehead. I felt a sting of sadness wash over me and I realized he was about to leave me here. I was an adult and wouldn’t have my father to take care of me. I had known I was grown and no longer a child, but it was just now really hitting me. I didn’t want my father to see me cry, so I forced a smile. There was no use making him worry. “I love you, daddy.” I said, looki

I watched as Jackson shook his head, picked up a pen, wrote on the paper and handed it back to Ayla. Ayla then walked right back to my office and handed the paper to me. I rolled my eyes a little and looked down. “Let me mark you and you can have everything on this list and more.” I picked up a red pen this time and wrote the word “NO!” in capital letters under his handwriting, then took a small paper weight and set it right in the middle. I crumpled the paper in a ball and chunked it across the hall, pegging Jackson in the face, which caused him to laugh out loud as he un-crinkled it. I watched Jackson smirking at me as he smoothed the crinkled paper on his desk. He shakes his head slightly and writes on the paper again and tosses it back across the hall to me. I duck in time and it hits the wall. Ayla picks up the paper ball and hands it to me. I harshly smoothed out the paper on my desk and read the words he wrote back. “If you let me mark you, then you won’t have to keep writin

Dinner had gone smoothly. It was only Ayla, Logan, Jensen and me. Jackson didn’t make it down to dinner. Logan just took him some food back to his office and seemed to just blow off the questions about what he was up to. It wasn’t uncommon for Alphas to have a lot of work to do, it was just uncommon for me to be out of the loop. One of the strangest things about the dinner was the number of people. Just four people in the huge dining area. I was used to most of the pack eating at the same time with a lot of different options of food to choose from. The spaghetti was great, it was just weird. There was enough space and tables. After dinner, I wandered alone around the pack house while Ayla went out with Jensen and Logan returned to Jackson’s office. It was so quiet. The game room was empty, there weren't warriors coming in and out, no laughter. I felt off. I stumbled into the library and browsed through some old books. The Silver Adder was similar to Lunarflare with an impressive libra

I don’t remember getting back to the house. I must have fallen asleep while Jackson was still carrying me. I woke up alone in my bed, dressed in short pajamas and a matching tank top. I crawled out of bed and lifted my shirt. My wounds were bandaged over. I must have really been out. I peeled back the bandages and noticed that it was already healed and I just had a scar there. I headed into the bathroom and took a quick shower and got dressed for the day in a pair of shorts and a tank top that showed off my new scar. I pulled my hair back and decided to go without shoes as I left my bedroom. Today was different. I could hear voices in the house, or at least on the same floor I was on. I followed the voices down the hall and ended up in front of Jackson’s office. The door was opened and Jackson was standing behind his desk. Logan and Jensen were across from him and two other wolves I’d never seen before were also there. They were all looking at what seemed to be a map that Jackson ha

When I finally woke up from my nap with Jackson, I was shocked to find out it was early the next morning and I had slept another night away. I was alone in bed and had no clue what time he had woken up and left, but I did find a little note on his pillow containing the password to the computer in my office and the pack accounts. I crawled out of bed. I wanted to get to my room and shower and change before hitting up the office and doing some research into the Silver Adder pack. I really wanted to find out what was going on and get everything in working order. When I opened the door and left Jackson’s room, I saw Jackson coming out of the Luna’s room. The one Ayla said that I wasn’t allowed to enter. He shut the door and locked it behind him. “Who’s in there?” I asked curiously. He jumped a little at the sound of my voice, clearly not expecting me to be standing between the two doors in the middle of the hall. “Don’t worry about it, Ume.” He said, trying to brush me off. I ignored

When we made it to the stairs, I could already hear the chatter coming from the dining hall. The place must have been packed. Jackson held me back and motioned for the others to go ahead. Once they were out of sight, he turned and looked at me. “Some wolves blindly follow their Alpha.” He explained and I nodded. “Promise me that you will never follow me blindly, if I make a decision that you don’t agree with, don't be afraid to challenge me, or dig for more information.” He said then started to walk again.I didn’t move, he stopped and looked back at me. “I already do that, and often you tell me not to worry about it. Like this morning outside the Luna’s chambers.”, I informed him. “I’m probably going to keep doing that.” He smirked. “Just, you know?” I blushed a little and nodded as we finished heading down the stairs and into the dining hall. The dining hall was packed to the brim and all eyes fell on Jackson and me when we entered. I just kind of looked down at the floor, a littl

I had laid in my bed long enough. It had to be close to two in the morning or maybe even later. I was bored so I decided to get up and tip toe downstairs for a snack. I step into the hall in my pajamas and walk toward the stairs. I heard the door to the Luna’s chamber open and I turned my head back to see what was going on. I was almost floored when I saw Tsubaki walking out holding a plate and glass.I stared at her as she closed the door behind her. She looked up at me and smiled. “What are you doing in there?” I demanded. The anger rose in my voice. She takes a few steps toward me and I take a step back, not wanting her close to me at all. She giggles a little and just walks past me toward the steps. “Where do you think I sleep, Luna?” Her laughter fills the hall as she descends the steps. My blood started to boil. I knew my face was red from the heat radiating off it. “Let me rip her fucking throat out, Ume.” Lasaya was forcing herself forward in my mind and I was struggling to

The next week went by pretty smoothly. I liked that I saw less of Tsubaki since she had been banned from the Alpha’s floor, though Jackson still wouldn’t budge on telling me who was in the Luna’s chamber. I caught him leaving a couple of times and every time I checked the door was always locked. In the house, everything was in perfect condition. Jen ran the housekeepers with an iron fist and our head cook, Margo, was amazing. The food was probably the best I have eaten in quite a long time. Her meals were on par or even better than some of the meals we had at Lunarflare. The dining rooms were packed and full of laughter and conversation at meal times. Jackson even started to come and eat with everyone. The jerk was kind of growing on me. The gardens outside were starting to take shape. We even had a head groundskeeper whose name was Spencer. They planted the fall and winter blooms but they haven’t come in yet. I was also very impressed that Spencer and his family kept the pack farm

“We’re here.” I opened my eyes at the sound of Jackson’s voice. I somehow managed to move in my sleep and was all over him. My head was on his chest, my legs tossed over his lap and my arms around his shoulders. I raised my head up quickly and looked out the window. The car was still moving but I could see the city. The buildings were tall and wonderful, there were people everywhere, walking down the street, yapping on phones, going in and out of shops. I could smell some food cooking from a nearby restaurant and it smelt amazing. We passed by a couple of buildings with guitar music drifting into the street and people were dancing in cowboy hats.In a matter of seconds, I was in Jackson’s lap with my face pressed against the window just taking in all the sights. Liam made a few more turns and I saw the mall. The building was huge. I had never seen a building take up that much ground before. The parking lot was packed as well, with shoppers coming and going. It took Liam a little whil

My heart was racing as I closed the door behind me. Ruby was dead, I knew that. My father told me that he saw it himself. I hated that wretched woman. And my mom, Malia, was Ruby’s sister? I leaned my back against the wall and slid down slowly, wrapping my arms around my leg and resting my head on my knees. “Is my entire life a lie?” I asked, more to myself than anyone else. I felt Lasaya stir within but she was just as confused as I was and decided to remain at the back of my mind to let me figure out everything on my own. I held out one of my hands and opened it with my palm facing forward. I focused on the center of my hand and tried to push runic magic through the way Mobius had tried to teach me years ago. Nothing happened. I wasn’t surprised. I had never been able to use magic before. Only one of my siblings had the ability. I sighed and pulled myself up from the floor and made my way toward my office. There was only one way I was going to get the answers that I needed. I sat d

Jackson and the warriors from the Silver Adder pack came and went to aid my father in searching for my sister, Lily. I was just doing my best at helping the Adders recover from the loss we faced from the battle against the vampires. That and taking care of Allison. Allison was a cute little girl with a lot of spunk. She had light blonde hair and pale blue eyes and a cute line of freckles across the bridge of her nose. If Jackson and I took her out into the human world, she would probably pass as our own. I found out that her father was a pack warrior who was killed by a rogue attack shortly after Allison was born, and her mother was an omega who worked in the kitchen with Margo. She had no other family so I just kind of took her in. I never thought my first child would be the one that I took in. Jackson d

Mobius came to a stop near the daycare. The flames were rather large. “Mobi!” I yelled, drawing the bear's attention. “We need to get this fire put out.” He nodded and stood on his hindlegs. I watched as his white fur began to glow a faint blue aura. The temperature around us quickly dropped to a point where I could see my breath. The blue aura began to intensify. The moisture in the air around his fur started to freeze. In a loud roar, the frozen moisture shot from around his fur and coated the flames in a thick layer of frost, dousing the flames. In just a few minutes, all that was left was sizzling and smoke and a whole lot of frost.I watched in awe of the white bear’s power. It was the first time I'd ever seen it in action. After the fire was gone, Mobius was forced to shift back into his human form. After taking a moment to regain himself, he stood tall and helped me look through the ruins of the daycare. “Two bodies, Luna.” I heard his voice. I closed my eyes as sadness wash

“What does he mean? They took Lilly?” Sage was frantic. The phone slipped from my hand as my eyes shifted over toward Sage. “Ume, who took Lilly?” She asked again. I could hear the panic in her voice. I took a step closer toward her and wrapped my arms around her and pulled her into a tight embrace. Sage rested her head on my shoulder and started to weep. “Ume, what are we going to do?” she asked helplessly. I squeezed her tighter and fought back the tears that were trying to break through. “We have to take care of Lyrie, that’s what dad asked.” I tried to soothe my sister. “It will be okay, dad will find her. He always takes care of us.” I pulled her away and smiled at her. Sage nodded slightly at me, still crying. “We need to go home, Ume.” She said through her tears, tugging on the collar of my shirt. “No Sage.” I tried to soothe her by rubbing her dark hair. “They have an army at home, Jackson and all of our warriors are on their way to help our family.” I said to her. Lola glanced over at me and, without even being able to communicate with my sister and her wolf, we instinctively knew what to do. Lasaya moved and positioned us behind Lola and Lyrie. I could trust knowing my sister had my back and I had hers. I also knew these vampires were here for us and I would be damned if anyone hurt my little sisters. I knew Sage was safe with Vael and Kaylin, but Lyrie would fight. I knew from the moment we heard the screaming that she was ready to go. Our attacks were precise, she would lunge, then I would after I felt her safely behind me. I never turned to look at her as long as I could feel her. That was all I needed. She may have only been a child herself, but she was an Alpha and trained by the best. Ezekiel was also near. I watched as he made short work of a few vampires as he skidded across the field. I got up from the table in haste to follow Vael out of the room. I almost ran into him as I walked out the door. As if he knew my plan, he had waited on me. I looked at him for a moment, it was nice seeing the doctor again. He was only a couple of inches taller than me, he had light blonde hair slicked back against his head with stubble on his face. Vael wore a white lab coat and a device that he invented that covered his left eye, almost like a monocle. I’d never asked what it was for, he’s had it since I’ve known him. I smiled at him but he didn’t return the favor, which I didn’t expect. Instead, he lifted his hand and grabbed my hair. He yanked my hair all over my head and twisted my head around before letting it go. “Where is the hairpin that your sister gave you, Alpha?” He asked in an annoyed voice. I blushed a little. “It’s in my bathroom, on the sink. It didn’t really match….” He held his hand up in my face to stop me from talking, and it worked. “I don’t care what it mat

I was still a little shocked by everything. I got bit by a vampire, then I slept for two weeks, my sisters were here, I missed Halloween and Jackson marked me. I looked in my mirror and lifted my fingers to touch the crescent moon-shaped mark that Jackson left on my neck and smiled. I shook my head, bringing myself back to my senses. He was waiting for me to go to the Beta meeting.I glanced in the mirror one last time before I headed out of my room and found Jackson at the other end of the hall. He smirked at me and took my hand. “You ready babe?” He asked and I nodded with a smile. I didn’t know how I could be smiling this much after everything. I stood on the tips of my toes and kissed my mate on the cheek before we headed down stairs to the beta floor. It looked a lot like the Alpha’s floor except there was a room in the middle with double doors that opened into a big meeting room. There was a long table in the middle with chairs all around it. It was darkly decorated and there w

I wish he had stayed longer and actually enjoyed himself, but I don’t think I would be able to either if I was in his position.Jackson lifted me up and set me on top of his desk. Vael said it was important to Sage’s spell that it was just her and Lyrie there.” He explained.I leaned down and kissed his forehead. I felt his hands move to my bare thighs, since I was only put on a purple sundress after my shower, no shoes and a simple ponytail. I really wanted to see him and didn’t want to bother doing anything else. “It’s okay. We are together now.” I smiled at him. Jackson laid his head against my thigh an
