~Roman’s POV~

I ran a hand through my hair, exhaling sharply.

Oh my god.

This changes everything.

I turned my gaze to Rhett. If he already had this kind of strength at his age… it could only mean one thing.

The prophecy might be true.

I stared at him, my mind racing through possibilities. His innocent face held no idea of what he had just done, what it could mean. If he was already showing signs now, then there was no more time to waste.

Before I could even process my next thought, the front door swung open.

Ruby.

I’d already heard her coming, already bracing myself for this conversation.

“Hey, Mom!” The kids ran toward her, their voices light, innocent—completely unaware of the storm brewing between us.

Ruby barely had time to acknowledge them before I stepped forward.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked with a firm but low voice.

She barely spared me a glance, her focus shifting. “Where’s Aunt Helen?”

“At the back,” Rhett answered.

Ruby let out a breath and then looked at the kids. “G

~Ruby's POV~The house was unusually quiet that night.Even with the kids around, the usual laughter and chatter were absent. Instead, a heavy tension hung in the air, pressing down on all of us like an invisible weight.Helen sat stiffly on the couch, arms crossed over her chest, her eyes distant. The kids lingered near the stairs, speaking in hushed voices, exchanging glances as if sensing the unease but not quite knowing what to do with it.And then Liam walked in.The second he stepped through the door, his sharp gaze swept over the room, taking in the atmosphere. “Uncle Liam!” The kids said in a neutral tone. “Hey kids, how are you?” “Good… I guess.” They both chorused. His jaw clenched slightly as his eyes landed on Helen. “Hey, Helen.” “Hi, Liam.”Then on me.He saw it. The frustration. The tension. The exhaustion. He didn’t ask questions right away. Instead, he sighed, running a hand through his hair before speaking. “I need to talk to Ruby. ~Little Ruby’s POV~The house felt weird that night. It was too quiet.Even though the lights were still on and the TV played some show nobody was really watching, it felt like something heavy was sitting in the air, making it hard to breathe right. Mom was sitting on the couch, looking tired, and Aunt Helen had her arms crossed, staring at nothing.Rhett and I sat near the stairs, not really sure what to do. Usually, there’d be talking or laughing, or maybe Aunt Helen would be telling Mom one of her long stories that didn’t make sense. But tonight? Nothing. Then the front door opened.Uncle Liam walked in, and everything felt even weirder. He looked around really fast, like he was trying to figure out what was wrong.“Uncle Liam!” Rhett and I said together, but not in our usual happy way. Just… normal.“Hey, kids,” he said. “How are you?”“Good… I guess,” we both mumbled at the same time. His eyes moved to Aunt Helen. “Hey, Helen.”“Hi, Liam.”Then he looked at Mom.I saw something

~Ruby’s POV~The morning air felt heavier than usual. Maybe it was just me.I stood at the kitchen counter, absentmindedly stirring my coffee, though I had no real intention of drinking it. My mind was tangled in too many thoughts, one looping louder than the rest.Liam loves me.He actually said it. And now? Now, I had no idea what to do.I’d spent the morning avoiding him, keeping my conversations brief, and dodging eye contact whenever possible. Liam had tried—oh, he had tried—to catch my gaze, to start some kind of conversation about it. But I wasn’t ready. Not now. Maybe not ever."Mom, can I have cereal?" Rhett's voice pulled me from my thoughts.I blinked, looking down to see him already climbing onto a chair to reach the cabinet."Yeah, of course, baby. Let me help." I moved on autopilot, grabbing the cereal and pouring it into his bowl.Little Ruby came in a second later, rubbing her eyes. "Is Uncle Liam still here?"I tensed for just a moment before nodding. ~Rhett’s POV~I flopped onto my bed, staring at the ceiling. This was hopeless."So, since we're back in our rooms—""Since we've been kicked back to our rooms," Little Ruby corrected, sitting cross-legged on the floor, arms crossed like she had just been terribly wronged."Yeah, kicked back," I agreed with a sigh. "Let’s get back to our plan."Little Ruby perked up immediately, her eyes shining with excitement. "Okay, so hear me out… what if we fake a disaster?"I sat up so fast my head almost spun. "No way.""Why not?" she whined."Because we’ve tried this before," I reminded her, giving her a hard look."And?" she asked, tilting her head like she didn't already know.I shot her a glare. "Mom almost drowned."Little Ruby grimaced. "Okay… yeah. Bad example." She waved it off like it didn’t matter. "But this time, we control the situation!"I narrowed my eyes. "Uh-huh. And how exactly do we fake a safe disaster?"Little Ruby waved her hands around dramatically. "We don’t fake it. We j

Esperanza’s POVI did not see that coming.Like, at all.I wasn’t even paying attention at first. The kitchen fire was way more entertaining than it should have been—watching the twins fumble over their excuses, Roman trying not to laugh, and Ruby looking like she was debating grounding them forever. But then. Then Ruby said it.“Excuse me? They got it from you. You are the troublemaker here.”Roman had called her a little troublemaker too and Ruby gasped like he just exposed her entire existence. At first, I thought they were just bickering like always, but the way they looked at each other? The way Roman smirked like he was remembering something personal?Something wasn’t adding up.I turned to Keely, nudging her lightly. “You’re seeing this, right?”Keely, still amused by the chaos, raised an eyebrow. “Seeing what?”I gestured toward Roman and Ruby, who were now arguing about which one of them was the bigger troublemaker.Roman was grinning. “You started it, Ruby.”Ruby scoffed. “E

Helen’s POVThe afternoon dragged on, stretching thin like a frayed rope ready to snap.Kai’s laptop whirred quietly, his fingers moving across the keyboard in a steady rhythm—the only consistent sound in the room.Everyone else was beginning to wilt under the weight of exhaustion. The twins had been sent to their rooms, instructed firmly not to come back until we called for them. They didn’t argue. That alone told me how drained they were.Esperanza, Keely and Ruby were in the kitchen preparing something for us all. I was going to join them, but they seemed to be having their family/sister kind of bond and conversation going on there. Not that they’d mind me joining them but I just didn’t feel up for it.And then there was Roman.Pacing.Back and forth.Over and over again.Like a caged animal barely keeping itself from breaking something. His fists clenched and unclenched at his sides, his shoulders rising and falling with controlled breaths. Finally, he muttered, "I need some air,"

"Tell Ruby and the kids I'll be back."I didn’t wait for a response before stepping down the stairs. It was morning, but the sun was already high up; though the air was cool against my skin as I walked down the street. I had no real destination in mind, just the need to clear my head. Eventually, I found myself in front of a quiet bar—one I’d passed a hundred times but never had a reason to enter.Today, I had one.I slid onto a barstool and ordered a beer, wrapping my hands around the cold glass. My mind drifted, replaying the moment I confessed my feelings to Ruby. The door clicked shut behind us, shutting out the world. The firelight flickered on the walls of the Alpha’s Quarters, casting shadows. My mind took a trip down memory lane, our first night together.I barely remembered what happened that night, but it planted the seed that became the twins. Then it was against my will and ourtime together was a haze from being drunk.Today, it was different.Roman held me close with his strong arms, my bare feet hanging as he embraced me. His eyes locked onto mine, filled with warmth and intensity, and I could feel the air between us change—growing heavier.“Ready to rule by my side, Luna?” he asked, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through me.“Yes,” I’d answered, the word echoing in my chest as he set me down, my toes brushing the cool wooden floor. But he didn’t step back. His hands stayed on my waist, fingers pressing just enough to anchor me, and I felt the pull of him, like gravity, like fate.My body responded in a rush, warmth tingling in

~Ruby's POV~The morning light filtered through the silk curtains like a quiet promise. A breeze slipped in from the balcony of the guest quarters, cool against my bare arms as I stood facing the mirror. For the first time, the dress hanging behind me wasn’t chosen by politics or pressure—it was mine. Handpicked. Designed with intention. A soft ivory fabric laced with silver moon-thread, delicate embroidery swirling like wind-blown snow across the hem. The fabric shimmered as if it remembered starlight. It wasn’t just a wedding dress. It was a declaration. I chose this. I chose him.“Okay,” Keely said, stepping back with her hands on her hips. “You are officially glowing. Like—transcendent, divine, goddess-level glowing.”Esperanza nodded, applying the final touch of gloss to my lips before holding the mirror up. “Tell me you don’t look like you could command the entire realm of werewolves and humans alike.”I smiled, nerves fluttering in my stomach like paper wings. “You two are in

~Ruby's POV~The tires barely crunched over the gravel before I saw them—Helen, the kids, Keely, Esperanza—all standing outside the house like they were waiting for something spectacular.Well… maybe they were. They held handmade signs above their heads. One in Little Ruby’s unmistakable handwriting read: Welcome Back! and another, messily painted in glitter and marker, said: TELL US EVERYTHING!Roman laughed as he stepped out of the car, squinting against the afternoon sun. “Looks like we’ve got a welcoming committee.”I didn’t even get a chance to grab my purse before the twins launched themselves toward us. Roman caught both of them in his arms with ease, lifting them off the ground and spinning them around. They squealed with delight, tiny limbs flailing mid-air.“Good to see you two,” Roman said, his voice softer than usual. The kind of tone I’d only ever heard him use with them.“Same here, Dad,” they chimed in unison.“How was your vacation?” Rhett asked, ever the polite one.

~Ruby's POV~I woke to silence. No breath against my neck. No warmth tucked behind me. No Roman. My hand instinctively reached for the other side of the bed, but the sheets were cold, untouched. I blinked, sitting up slowly and brushing strands of hair out of my face. That’s when I saw it—folded neatly and left in Roman’s unmistakable scrawl on the pillow beside me.“Wear something pretty. I’m stealing you away at 6.”I stared at it for a second too long before letting out a quiet scoff. “Roman,” I murmured with a small smile, clutching the note for a moment before setting it down on the nightstand. The evening was quiet; the cabin was quiet—too quiet. No hum from the bathroom, no clinking of cups from the kitchenette, not even the rustle of papers or faint footsteps. Just me, the distant ticking of the clock, and… my stomach rumbling like it had a score to settle.“Damn,” I mumbled, placing a hand on my belly. “Calm down.”I grabbed one of the leftover cookies I found in the fridge a

The past three days have been wonderfully fun, and today, being the fourth, wasn't going to be any different. The moment we stepped into the cobblestone square of the old town market, I felt her energy shift.Ruby slowed down, taking in the quaint charm like it was something out of a fairytale. String lights crisscrossed overhead despite it being daytime, casting soft golden hues across the worn stones beneath our feet. Colorful stalls lined both sides of the street, selling everything from handwoven baskets to carved figurines and spices in little muslin pouches. The air smelled of roasted almonds, cinnamon, and woodsmoke.“Whoa… this is beautiful,” she murmured, eyes wide, voice soft with awe.I tried to hide the grin tugging at my lips, but failed. “Told you I had good taste.”She rolled her eyes, not even trying to fight the smile that followed. “Don’t be full of yourself, Roman. You just got lucky.”“Uh-huh. So yesterday’s waterfall was luck? And the valley before that?” I shot

  • The Alpha's Castaway Mate: Mummy, Is He Our Daddy?   231. Our Own World I...

~Roman's POV~The second day of our little escape began with nothing but sun, wildflowers, and an open valley. The scent of spring was thick in the air—crisp grass, blooming petals, and that earthy sweetness that only comes when you’re far from city noise. For once, everything felt… quiet. Still. Like the world had decided to hold its breath and just let us exist. We rode out into the valley after breakfast, the horses crunching over gravel and dry brush. Ruby looked ahead with this gleam in her eyes like she was ten again, wild and unbothered. She had insisted she was a "natural" at horseback riding.I should’ve known better. We had barely ridden into the open stretch when her horse wandered off-course, heading toward the ridge with a mind of its own. Ruby’s posture tensed, both hands gripping the reins like they were her last lifeline.“Whoa—okay. Alright, not funny,” she muttered, trying to redirect the horse, but it kept veering left.I didn’t even laugh. Not yet. I kicked my

Ruby’s POVThe next morning came faster than expected.Roman had been up early—earlier than me, which was a rare occasion, but it shouldn’t have surprised me too—and had already packed both our bags by the time I made it downstairs. He was standing near the door, arms crossed, looking smug as hell.“You ready?” he asked, that crooked little grin playing at the corners of his lips.I narrowed my eyes at the sight of the duffle bag slung over his shoulder. “What exactly are we packing for?”He raised a brow. “A break.”I folded my arms. “Roman D’Angelo, you said peace—not mystery.”He chuckled. “It’s a peaceful mystery. You’ll like it.”“You’re terrible at surprises.”He leaned in and brushed a kiss to my cheek. “And yet, I keep trying. That has to count for something.”Despite myself, I smiled. We left just before noon—Helen waving us off with a mock salute and a muttered “Godspeed” as Rhett and Little Ruby shouted goodbye from the porch. Esperanza had already set up an emergency gro

~Ruby's POV~“SURPRISE!!” We all shouted, popping up from every corner like confetti cannons.Helen froze, her mouth parting in surprise. Her eyes filled with something I hadn’t seen in days—real joy.Keely stepped out from behind the couch and shouted, “Welcome back, warrior!”Esperanza handed her a paper crown that read Queen of Comebacks, placing it gently on her head.Rhett and Little Ruby hugged her tightly around the waist, careful not to bump her leg.And I… I just smiled. For once, things felt light again. Not perfect. Not healed. But lighter. And that was a start. The house felt different—brighter somehow, warmer in a way that had nothing to do with the lighting. Voices echoing over each other, plates clinking in the kitchen, laughter spilling out of rooms like music. For the first time in a while, it felt like a real home again.Helen stood at the center of it all, beaming like she’d just stepped out of a miracle. Her cheeks were flushed, eyes still glassy with emotion eve

~Ruby's POV~It had been over a week now.The night outside was cold, quiet—too quiet for a mind like mine that hadn’t rested in what felt like years. I was curled up on the couch, the throw blanket pulled to my chin, knees pressed close to my chest. The television was on but muted, the flicker of images dancing faintly on the wall. I wasn’t watching it anyway. My eyes were wide open, but my mind was somewhere far away, running backward like an old film reel.Everything had happened so fast.Aunt Jean’s death. Bronwyn’s murder. The ambush at the cabin. The WE Project revelations. The attack on Helen in this same house. Even now, when everything was starting to settle, it still felt like a dream. A bad one. The kind that followed you into the morning, clinging to the edges of your thoughts even after the sun rose.I tucked my feet deeper under the blanket. When we moved back with Roman, it hadn’t been by choice. It was about safety. Protection. We were all targets. Me. My kids. Every
