Roman's POV

I watched as Ruby stepped down from the van and the door slammed shut behind her. She didn’t look back, not even for a second. I couldn’t tear my eyes away—couldn’t stop the knot tightening in my chest as she walked away.

Watching her leave hurt more now than it had seven years ago. It was like reliving that moment, only worse.

Each heartbeat reminded me of my mistakes, guilt pressing relentlessly against my chest. I should not feel this way after what I did, but the guilt had been building up ever since I turned her down in front of everyone those years ago.

A few moments passed before I realized the van was gone, the rumble of its engine fading into the distance. I hadn’t even noticed it leave. My feet felt rooted to the spot, my mind spinning with too many thoughts to make sense of any of them.

I finally forced myself to move, staggering back to where my car was parked. I gasped for air as I leaned against it because the air was too thick to swallow. I pressed the heel

  • The Alpha's Castaway Mate: Mummy, Is He Our Daddy?   012. Not today...

Ruby's POV It was a quiet Wednesday morning. The kind of morning that lulled into thinking the day might actually go smoothly. I should’ve known better.Helen, my closest friend, had offered to take Ruby and Rhett to school today. “You’ve been looking exhausted, Rubes,” she had said when she showed up at the door with her usual warm smile. “Why don’t you take a little time for yourself this morning?”I agreed, grateful for the help. Maybe a few hours alone would give me the chance to clear my head. After the kids left, the house felt too quiet. I tried to keep busy—distract myself by diving into the little chores I had been putting off. But the silence was suffocating. I scrubbed dishes from breakfast, straightened the furniture, picked up the pillow mess made by Ruby and Rhett. Just then my phone rang, looking at the phone screen it was Roman.Yeah, I saved his number so I would know when he calls. But I don’t need his call right now so I declined the call. I tried to return my att

  • The Alpha's Castaway Mate: Mummy, Is He Our Daddy?   013. A welcome distraction...

I drove through the city streets, my thoughts swirling like the traffic around me. The late morning sunlight filtered through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the road as I made my way to the little restaurant where Liam and I always met. It had been our go-to spot for years—a place where everything seemed to slow down, where I could escape the chaos of life, if only for a while. When I pulled into the parking lot, I spotted Liam through the large windows, already seated at our usual table by the window. I smiled to myself. He was always early.I stepped inside, the familiar smell of freshly baked bread and coffee hitting me as I walked toward him. The restaurant was quiet, with the soft hum of conversations and the clinking of plates in the background. As I approached, Liam stood up with that easy smile of his, one that always made me feel like everything was going to be alright."Been a while," he said, standing up to envelop me in a warm, familiar hug. I let out a sigh as I

As I pulled up to the familiar school gates, I could already see them—Ruby and Rhett—standing by the gatepost with their little backpacks slung over their shoulders. Rhett was the first to spot me, his face lighting up like a beacon.“Mom’s here, Ruby!” he exclaimed, tugging at her arm and stealing her attention away from her classmates.I smiled as I saw the twin faces brighten. “Mommy!” they chorused, springing from their seats and waving goodbye to their friends. They dashed towards the car, their laughter filling the air as they climbed in, Ruby’s school bag swinging wildly as she slipped into the backseat.“Hey, Munchies,” I greeted them with a grin, using the nickname they had known since they were toddlers.“Hi, Mom!” Ruby beamed.“Hey, Mom,” Rhett added, his smile a little quieter, but no less sincere. They fastened their seatbelts, something I had taught them to do without needing a reminder. It always made me proud to see how much they’d grown, even in the small things. As w

‘Come on, Helen, you couldn't even wait?' I chuckled to myself as I made my way to the front door to usher Helen in.As I got to the door, ready to greet my friend with a teasing remark, my amusement however, turned to shock, as I swung the door open.I froze in shock at the sight before me. Standing on the doorstep with an unreadable expression on his face was no other than…Roman."Roman?" I blurted out after recovering from the shock, my voice barely above a whisper, disbelief etched across my features."Hello, Ruby..." he said with a cold tone, his eyes having a glint of amusement and something else I couldn't quite decipher. "Surprised to see me?" he asked in an arrogant tone."How did you...?" I began, wanting to ask how he knew my place, but the question got caught at the back of my throat, lost in the whirlwind of emotions swirling within me."How did I find you?" he completed my question, cocking his head slightly as if savoring the moment. "It was quite easy. I just needed

The weight of his words hung in the air between us, heavy and suffocating. I could feel the walls closing in, the safe world I had built for my children suddenly fragile, like glass about to shatter.I closed the door slowly, leaning against it for a moment as I tried to collect myself. I could hear the kids still playing, blissfully unaware of the turmoil swirling just outside their little world. But I knew it wouldn’t stay that way for long. The sharp, unmistakable smell of something burning snapped me back to reality.“Oh my God!” I yelped, dashing into the kitchen. A cloud of smoke hung in the air, curling out from the pot. My heart sank as I reached over to turn off the gas, mumbling, “No, no, no… this can’t be happening.”With a grimace, I lifted the pot lid, only to be met with the charred remains of what used to be noodles. The half-burnt mess at the bottom clung stubbornly to the pot, taunting me. I sighed, pressing my fingers to my forehead, feeling the frustration rise.“G

ROMAN'S POV "Just so you know, you aren't running away from me again... Not again," I said before walking out. Ruby's words felt weighty as I stepped outside, the cool evening air contrasting sharply with the intensity of our just concluded conversation. With each step away from her door, I felt a strange mix of frustration and determination coursing through me.I heard the door close behind me with a definitive click, signaling the end of our tumultuous exchange.Glancing over my shoulder, I took in the sight of Ruby's house, a quaint little abode tucked away in the suburban neighborhood.I grabbed my phone from my pocket and called Kai, hoping to get an update from him. After a few rings, he answered."Hey Roman, I was about to call you. I stopped by your office, but Drew said you weren't in," Kai's voice came through the line."Yeah, I dropped by Ruby's place," I replied, still processing the encounter."You went to her place? Why?” Kai sounded slightly miffed."You didn't tell

Helen and I were just finishing up the last bites of our pancakes, the ones she claimed were “the fluffiest yet,” when my phone buzzed on the table. A glance at the screen made my stomach twist—the principal of the kids’ school.“Oh no,” I murmured, grabbing the phone.Helen looked up, instantly sensing my tension. “Everything okay?”I forced a smile but could feel the worry tightening my throat. “It’s the school.”I picked up, keeping my voice as steady as I could. “Hello, this is Ruby.”“Mrs. Blackwood, this is Principal O’Neil,” the familiar voice on the other end said, warm but with a hint of urgency. “I need you to come to the school right away. There’s been… an incident.”My heart dropped. “Is everything alright? Are the kids okay?”“They’re fine,” she assured me, though her tone was careful. “It’s Rhett… He was involved in a… disagreement with another student.”“A disagreement?” My voice came out sharper than I intended.“Yes. I think it’s best if we discuss this in person. Ple

The doorbell rang a second time, the sound cutting through the silence. My heart raced, though I wasn’t sure why. I took a deep breath, brushing the worry from my face, and called out, “Coming!” I crossed the hall, bracing myself for a visitor, but hoping it wasn’t him.Instead, I opened the door to see Liam standing there, a warm smile lighting up his face. Relief washed over me.“Hey, Ruby,” he greeted.“Hi… good afternoon.” I stepped aside, opening the door wide enough for him to come through. “Come on in.”He held two brown paper bags, each filled to the brim. I reached out to take one, chuckling. “Are you moving in or just feeding an army?”“Only the finest snack selection for my favorite twins,” he replied with a grin, handing me a bag.Together, we made our way to the living room, where I set the bags down on the table. I cupped my hands and called out to the kids, who I knew were hovering just out of sight down the hall. “Alright, Munchies… someone’s here to see you!”I could

  • The Alpha's Castaway Mate: Mummy, Is He Our Daddy?   216. Grand Return?...

ROMAN’S POVWeeks turned into months, but the thought of Ruby never left me. The girl I had cast out, humiliated, and tossed aside had taken root in my mind like an ache that wouldn't fade. I didn't know when it started—when guilt became regret, when regret became longing. And when longing turned into something I never thought I'd feel.I had fallen for her… even in her absence. But she was nowhere to be found. At first, I convinced myself she was hiding, waiting for things to blow over before she returned. But as time passed, that hope crumbled. She wasn’t at her uncle’s. She had no friends who would take her in. She had nowhere to go.So where the hell was she?Desperation clawed at me. I sent out word myself, asking anyone who might have seen her. I searched the city, turning over every stone, checking every street she might have wandered. But it was as if she had vanished into thin air.The thought that she might have wandered into the woods haunted me. I sent patrols out, ordere

  • The Alpha's Castaway Mate: Mummy, Is He Our Daddy?   215. Flashback...

~Romans POV~Seven Years Ago…The Pack House stood tall and intimidating, its walls filled with years of memories—some good, some bad. But today, I felt nothing but cold detachment. The air inside was heavy with judgment, and the smell of incense couldn’t hide the tension in the grand hall.I stood before the council, my face expressionless, my hands clenched into fists at my sides."You are no longer one of us."The words echoed in my mind, cutting deeper than any blade could. "You are dead to this pack, and if you return, it’s death."This moment—this exile—had started long before today. It had begun weeks ago, with a mistake, a misunderstanding, and a choice that had set everything into motion.******I stood in my bedroom, my hands sifting through his wardrobe. The scent of old fabric and polished wood filled the air as I searched for something to wear. My eyes sighted a small cloth, tucked away between neatly folded clothes.Ruby’s clothes. My chest tightened, memories of days a

  • The Alpha's Castaway Mate: Mummy, Is He Our Daddy?   214. The Call...

~Roman's POV~Minutes ago…The hospital lights above me buzzed softly, their harsh glow doing little to ease the anxiety churning inside me. I clenched my phone tightly as I walked back and forth in the hallway, my thumb repeatedly pressing the screen in frustration. The call just wouldn’t connect. I dialled once more, my patience thinning with each unanswered ring.“What the hell was he thinking?” I muttered.“Calm down, Roman. Relax for a second.” Kai’s voice was steady, but I could hear the wariness laced beneath it.I turned to him, my glare cutting. “Don’t—don’t tell me to calm down, Kai.”Kai sighed, rubbing his forehead. He knew me well enough by now to understand there was no reeling me back once I got to this point.“This was between me and him,” I seethed, stuffing my phone back into my pocket. “No one else. He had no business dragging anyone into this.”Kai exhaled, arms crossed over his chest. “Helen was obstructing, I guess.”“No.” I shook my head. “Even if she wasn’t,

~Ruby’s POV~The room was quiet, with only the soft hum of the laptop filling the space. On the screen, surveillance footage from eight different angles showed the attack happening in real time. I felt a knot in my stomach as I watched it all unfold. The front door burst open first—five masked men storming in like they owned the place. Helen was the first to react. She fought them off or at least she tried to, but she was outnumbered. One of them struck her hard across the face. She staggered but didn't fall. Another one lunged at her with a knife. Helen dodged once, twice—then pain shot across her face as the blade found its mark from behind.I gripped the edge of the chair.I barely heard my own breathing over the frantic pounding of my heart. The glow from Kai’s laptop screen bathed our faces in cold blue light, but nothing about this moment felt real. Roman, Kai, and I sat frozen, watching in horror as the nightmare unfolded before us.Rhett grabbed the nearest thing—a lamp, m

~Ruby’s POV~As soon as Roman and I stepped into the house, a suffocating weight settled over me. The silence wasn’t just empty—it was wrong. Heavy. It crawled over my skin, sinking into my chest, making it hard to breathe. My breath caught, my chest tightening as my eyes darted wildly over the destruction before me. The couch lay overturned, shattered glass crunched beneath my boots, and streaks of blood—dark, smeared—marred the walls like something, or someone, had been dragged.A cold shiver clawed up my spine. My stomach twisted into knots. And then it hit me.The kids.I sucked in a sharp breath, my voice breaking as I called out. "Helen? Rhett? Ruby?"Nothing. No footsteps. No voices. Just the eerie stillness of a house that should’ve been filled with laughter, with noise, with life.Panic gripped my throat, making it hard to breathe. I moved without thinking, pushing through the mess of broken furniture and accidentally knocking over a lamp in my desperate search. My heart rac

~Roman's POV~Abel’s voice carried through the speaker in a manner that was both smooth and taunting. "Good evening, little bro."I tightened my grip on the phone, jaw clenching. "What do you want, Abel?" I went straight to the point. No need for games—not that he ever played fair.“A little greeting won't hurt.” He mused. “I have no time for such.” I countered. “Christ, ever serious. Put the phone on speaker. I’m sure you’re not alone."Ruby's voice was soft but filled with suspicion as she shifted against me. "What’s he saying?"I raised a finger, signaling her to wait.Abel chuckled. "Oh, Ruby's there too? Nice. Go on, Roman."Damn it. Of course, he heard. He always did. I set the phone down on the table, hitting speaker.Abel’s voice filled the space around us, casual but laced with arrogance. "Figured you’d all be together after that little stunt you just pulled."Everyone exchanged glances but remained silent."You thought you were in control, didn’t you?" Abel continued, then

~Ruby’s POV~The basement was poorly lit, the single hanging bulb casting long, wary shadows along the damp concrete walls. The air was thick with the scent of rust, sweat, and something more metallic—blood. It clung to the space, making the atmosphere suffocating.Roman and Damien towered over the two men tied to the chairs, their faces revealing nothing as they contemplated what to do next. The men were restrained in worn metal chairs, their wrists and ankles firmly secured with heavy-duty zip ties.Their clothes were torn, blood seeping through the fabric where Roman and Damien had already introduced their fists. One of them, a stocky man with a split lip, glared up at Roman, his breathing heavy but controlled. The other, leaner with dark, piercing eyes, had a smirk despite the cut above his brow.Roman cracked his knuckles, the sound sharp in the silent room. “Who do you work for?”The stocky man didn’t answer. He only winced, his jaw tightening in defiance.Damien let out a shor

WARNING: GRUELSOME AND A BIT BRUTAL FOR SOME PEOPLE. PROCEED WITH CAUTION~Roman’s POV~The port had a salty, rusty smell mixed with something more foreboding—the scent of a deal about to go down. The waves gently hit the docks, creating a tense atmosphere. Flickering overhead lights cast long shadows between the stacked shipping containers.I adjusted the lens of my camera, angling it just right to capture the blurry figures exchanging briefcases. Each soft click of the shutter sent a jolt of adrenaline through me. This wasn’t just some shady deal. It was bigger—dangerous. And I could feel it in my gut.Beside me, Damien shifted restlessly, his fingers twitching near the concealed weapon at his side. His eyes scanned the scene, always watching, always ready."Standing here beside me isn't of any help," I muttered, focusing on getting the best shot."You think so?" Damien replied in a low voice."Obviously. And you know that.""I'm actually watching your back while you take the shots

~Ruby's POV ~Damien’s office was still as I last remembered—perfectly lit, a little too neat, and carrying that ever-present scent of leather and expensive cologne. It was the kind of place that made you feel like you were either about to be recruited into something dangerous or interrogated for something you didn’t even know you did.The tension was already thick before we even stepped inside. Roman entered first, with his hands in his pockets and a relaxed posture, but his eyes were alert. Kai came in right after him, unusually quiet and not his usual talkative self. I stayed by the doorway, feeling nervous.Damien sat on the edge of his desk, arms crossed, watching us as we filed in. His expression was unreadable, but his eyes flickered with curiosity—no, scrutiny. He barely let the silence settle before speaking. "Glad you could make it. Thought you’d have a change of heart."I met his gaze, unfazed. "We should be the ones worried about that."He let out a low chuckle. "Be res
