Raina's POV

"Alec, what is the meaning of this? Why are you smiling with the enemy?" Jenifer said to Alec, and I touched the back of my hair and looked away to laugh. Alec found my reaction amusing.

"What is it, mother?" he asked, and most of the medical staff were looking at us.

"She is your sister's rival. Why are you smiling with her?" Jenifer asked, and Alec looked at her.

"It seems you forget I am Tristan's beta. And…" he started, and Irvin shut him up.

"Jared is his beta. Wake up…" Irvin said to him, and he nodded.

"Under Darius, I was nothing. I appreciate everything. Jared is Tristan's trusted friend, but I am Stormhowl's beta and second in command to the King of Ironclaw. I do not care what anyone thinks. It's statements like this that have made Tristan distrust us," He said, and Irvin looked at me.

"Your whoring days will…" He started, but my mother walked up to us.

"Will what, Irvin? Her whoring days will what? Your daughter is the whore with a bare neck. Mind your business

Raina's POV"Traitor! Bastard. How dare you?" his father said to him. Natasha looked confused when she approached us."What is going on here?" She asked."We are being arrested for unknown reasons, and your brother won't do anything about it," Jenifer said, and Natasha looked at me."What is she doing here? What are you doing here?" She asked me, and I didn't even bother to answer her. I wasn't her problem. The shame of what was happening was her problem. I wasn't going to give her the chance to vent on me."Let them go!" She told Alec, and he brazed himself and shook his head. What was going on?"I order you as your Luna!" she finally said, and Thomas stepped in."Stormhowl has no Luna. And an unclaimed woman cannot be regarded as Luna," Thomas said, and I knew he was doing it to spare Alec the horror of having to say the words to his sister.People began to gather at the commotion happening in the hallway. It was an embarrassing situation. I held on to the robe covering my body, and

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   103 Welcome Home, Alpha

Tristan's POVI arrived in Stormhowl in the dead of night. The familiar landscape was cloaked in shadows, the moonlight casting eerie silhouettes that danced with the rustling trees. There was something different about the atmosphere, something I couldn't quite put my finger on. It felt charged, electric, as if the very air was vibrating with anticipation or aftermath. As I pondered over it, Thomas's voice broke through the haze of my thoughts."Welcome home, Alpha," he greeted me with a respectful nod as I alighted from the vehicle. His words were calm, but there was an underlying tension in his tone. "We found your mother and brother. They are currently receiving treatment in the hospital."My heart skipped a beat, a sensation that felt alien and unexpected. If anyone had told me that I would feel joy at the mention of those two, I would have called them a liar. But here we were, and I was undeniably, inexplicably happy. The emotions surged through me like a tidal wave, almost overwh

Tristan's POV"Where is Raina?" I asked, hoping for a positive answer, my voice trembling slightly with concern."In her room. She is fine," Alec said, and I felt a wave of relief wash over me, easing the tension in my shoulders."Did she get in the fight?" I pressed, needing to know the details. He nodded solemnly. "How bad was it?" I asked, my heart pounding in anticipation of his answer."Four betas and three Zetas. We got there on time," he replied, his expression serious. I balled my fists at my sides, trying to keep my emotions in check."I told her not to, but she said they were too suspicious for her to ignore," Alec continued, his voice tinged with frustration. "I had to stop everything I was doing to go after her. We got there on time. They were able to stand their ground long enough. But it was thanks to them that we found Luna Elisabeth and Dean. They had Devil's teeth and were unconscious, but your mother came through briefly before slipping back into unconsciousness," h

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   105 Don't You Pull This Stunt Again

Raina'sPovI laid down in bed, trying to sleep. I was still in pain from some of the injuries I had sustained during the fight, but I knew I would be as good as new in a day or two. Peter and Alisia had moved into two rooms down the hall from my room. They didn't want to live with my parents anymore. Peter wanted to protect me now that everyone sort of knew it was Trsitan's mark on my neck. What did it mean for me? I could not tell. I heard the door open, and I didn't need anyone to tell me who it was. I knew it was Tristan. I sat in bed, although I was in pain. Tristan rushed toward me, concern and anger on his face.He squatted in front of me and checked my body and my face."What were you thinking?" He started. He was scolding me, and I already knew he would do that."Why put your life in danger? Did you think of me and our baby?" he asked me, and I nodded."They were lurking about the old mill, and I wanted to know what they were up to. You must admit it, Tristan, if I didn't f

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   106 All You Can Say

Tristan's POVI didn't want to leave Raina alone in the pack house, but she was right. I owed Alec that much. It was time to end the charade with Natasha. I had gotten what I wanted: the support of the alphas of Ironclaw. I was officially the King of Ironclaw and had caught the traitors in Stormhowl. I didn't need to play house with her anymore. I didn't need to touch her, nor did I need to string her along for information. I hated being manipulative, and the fact that I would not need to manipulate her anymore made me more happy.Arriving at the house, it was dark. I went to my room and found Natasha with a bottle of whisky. She was wearing her lingerie with red lipstick. I could tell she applied the make-up drunk. It was smudged, and she looked depressed."Tristan, you are home," She said with a smile. Her hands were shaking. I could tell she was on something other than alcohol, but I didn't want to say anything. I went to sit on the couch."You'll claim me tonight, won't you? You w

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   107 Make Some Effort

Tristan's POVI returned to the packhouse and found Raina sound asleep in bed. I took off my clothes and held her to my body. I didn't fall asleep until Thomas told me he had secured Natasha somewhere. He was a great Delta, and I had to commend him for his loyalty. I was worried for Alec, but I learned he was safe at home. The guy had shown serious loyalty, which meant a lot to me. I hoped he would end up happy. I knew the days ahead would be tough, but I was happy I wouldn't face it alone. Going to war did not sit well with me, but we had no choice. It was required for the sake of peace. Getting at the three kings wasn't only for my people, but for my family. They had ruined our lives, and I needed to get my pound of flesh. It wasn't misguided; if what I had learned about Darius and my mother was true, then indeed, those Kings needed to pay. But going to war wasn't an option. What the Alphas had voiced as their problem was serious. Knowing their situation and asking them to go to w

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   108 That Was Me

Tristan's POVI rushed to the hospital to see them, and to my surprise, Dean was sitting up in bed eating jello and talking animatedly with our mother. I always envied their closeness. I knew they couldn't be able to smell me because of the poison. After recovering from the devil's teeth, it took a while to get the senses back to full capacity, so I watched them out the window. My mother looked tired and was smiling at Dean. Was there a day she ever smiled at me like that? I wondered if things would have been different between us if Dean and I had the same dad. He looked tired, too, but he looked happy to see her."Do you think Tristan would lock us up again?" Dean asked our mother, but she didn't answer. It seemed the mention of my name wiped away her smile; it was steely. I guess some things never change after all.I decided to walk in, and the moment I entered the hospital room, it was as if someone had died. They were completely silent. Dean had an angry scowl, and his mother loo

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   109 I cared

Tristan's POV"Dean was a douchebag to you, and I wished you two would get along, but it's unfortunate how everything went, Tristan. I was a shitty mother to you because that was the only way I knew you would get off Darius's radar and survive. We weren't useful to him anymore; I had to keep us safe. You have to understand that to me, you being alive and hating me was better than you dead. So I do not regret it. Do your worst," She said, but I couldn't speak. Instead, I looked at Dean, who wasn't pleased at all. I could tell his feelings towards me mirrored mine towards him. I didn't like him, and he didn't like me either."You hate me so much, so why ask for my help?" I asked, and his eyes softened."You got the shirt?" he asked, and I nodded."Jason is better now. We sent scouts to look for you; unfortunately, we weren't lucky. Irvin Rain, Luis Clifords, and Jack Benjamin have been arrested. Unfortunately, I wasn't the one that found you. It was Raina and Alisia," I said, and there w

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   120 A Little Glimpse Into The Future

Raina's POVTwo Year LaterThe new trade law indeed favoured our people; there were jobs and new processing plants and factories under construction in Ironclaw. All illegal business activities were discontinued in Ironclaw. People that had left in search of greener pastures had returned. The other regions were not impoverished as the dead kings had feared, but wealth was evenly distributed, and more opportunities were created. The Nighthowler territory was being built, and it was almost completed. Former Nighthowlers emerged from everywhere to come home, and Tristan built his palace there. It was nothing big but a semblance to the type of home he promised to build for me while we sat at the lake when we were teenagers, and he promised me the world. We had recollected most of our promises and fulfilled the ones within our capacity. One of the most surprising things that happened after the battle with the evil kings was finding out that Alisia and Dean were fated. What were the odds

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   119 Closure

Raina's POVEverything had happened so fast, and somehow, the fear we might not survive had dissipated as we realised we were all fortunate to keep our lives. Luna Lisa was rushed to the hospital, but my mother said she would be fine. While Tristan discussed with the allies of the other royal families that had helped us take down the Kings, Dean walked to me to talk. It was an inevitable discussion, and I didn't know what angle it would take, but I braced myself for it. Clutching the robe around my body, I waited for him."Hey," he said, and I looked at him. We hadn't spoken since he woke up, and to think Alisia and I were the ones that found them."Rainy," he said, calling me how he referred to me often."I guess fate never lies," he said, and I looked at him. His eyes had a sadness and longing that I knew I could never alleviate."I never got to thank you for saving me and my mother. Alec told me how you and Alisia risked your lives to save us. I am grateful," he said, and I nodded.

Lucian's body crumpled to the floor, lifeless.Alec and Jared fought together, a formidable pair. Abel and his men tried to hold them off but were overwhelmed. Alec's powerful jaws crushed skulls and severed limbs, while Jared's speed and agility made him a blur of death. Abel's wolf fell beneath their combined assault, his body torn apart. The battle raged on, brutal and bloody. Some enemy wolves tried to escape, but the exits were barred. They were trapped, forced to face their doom. Ian Braxon and the rest of the Ironclaw alphas fought with savage grace, their wolves cutting through the remaining guards and assassins.Dean's wolf, covered in blood, finally brought down King

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   117 Welcome To IronClaw

Tristan's POVThe air in the banquet hall grew thick with tension as I signalled for the doors and windows to be shut. The heavy thud and clatter echoed ominously, and I saw the flicker of realisation in the eyes of King Lucian, King Rufus, and King Oswald. Their arrogance had blinded them to the trap they had walked into. The time for pleasantries was over. Tonight, their reign of terror would end.Dean and our mother stood among the guests, their disguises blending seamlessly. Their eyes met mine, and a silent understanding passed between us. Our allies within the royal families were poised to act. The alphas of Ironclaw, Ian, Braxon, and their men were ready. The plan was in motion.King Lucian's laughter died in his throat as I bared my teeth in a feral grin. "Welcome to Ironclaw, gentlemen," I said, my voice dripping with menace. "You will not leave this hall alive."The assassins, led by Reuben and Abel, moved swiftly to protect the three kings and their families. But we were r

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   116 The Engagement Party

Tristan, POVThe day of the event was finally upon us. We positioned our men about the place, and the banquet hall was prepared. The Ironclaw alphas arrived at the venue, and soon, the three kings and some of their family members were around. Our moles, and hopefully the future kings, were there, too. There was a look of arrogance in King Lucian's eyes. King Rufus was friendly, but I knew he didn't mean well either. King Oswald was unreadable, but it didn't matter. We were still going to carry out our plan. Their reign of terror would end tonight. The kings brought us gifts and sat at their tables with their wives. Raina and I were there too. I noticed King Rufus's eyes linger on Raina. She was looking stunning. Some effort was made in her beautiful cream seductive gown. That showed cleavage and skin. She was a walking temptation. Her lips were red, and her eyes were ice blue. Her dark hair made her skin a lot paler. They had never seen such beauty, and she was mine. King Oswald's han

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   115 A Perfect Plan 2

Tristan POVWe were still talking when my mother decided to grace us with her presence. The entire place was silent. It wasn't news anymore that she was a true Knight and not my father, as they had all expected. She was still royalty. It is in her blood."And while you are at it, I want my pound of flesh from Lucian. He was the one who started this nonsense. His father had agreed to improve on the trade deal. I remember the day his father and mine signed the agreement, but Lucian was too greedy. When he came into power, he knew how much he would lose in revenue and couldn't have it, so he instigated the other three against Ethan. Randolph did not join in and was shunned and excluded for that purpose. They frustrated Ethan's effort and finally used Darius and some of you to silence the man. Then, soon, when Darius realised he wasn't being treated as an equal, he decided to rise above his station. They sent the enclave to keep him in check since they were the ones that placed him there.

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   114 A Perfect Plan

Tristan POV I woke up in the morning energised and ready to face the future. Alec had reached out to his friend in Renhall, and we had a plan. Dean also contacted a family member of King Oswald. I couldn't believe my brother was helping me. Instead of working against one another, we were working together. He promised to gather his own men. Although Dean was lazy with responsibilities, he was a good fighter. He just didn't like fighting, but I noticed something had changed. There was a maturity and new resolve in him. He had the look I had in my eyes now. I guess we were even somehow. The alphas arrived in the morning and were shocked to see Dean and me working together. I introduced Dean to them in his new Royal capacity, and they were happy. Ian was the most happy. Braxon was pissed to learn about the cottage in the woods at his border. I honestly did not think he was a traitor, knowing that many illegal activities were being perpetrated in Irconclaw; the kings had their goons ev

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   113 Join Me At The Lake

Raina's POVI didn't leave Elisabeth until the evening. We ate together, and I kept her company. My mother and Mrs Lana, former Delta's wife, came to join us. Dean never showed up, but Jared told me Tristan was with Dean. I guess they needed the privacy and time to mend their nonexistent relationship. Hopefully, they would get it right this time. When it was time to return home, I heard Tristan's voice in my mind."Join me at the lake, Blue Eyes," he said, and I felt butterflies. I always looked forward to spending time with Tristan. Having missed him since his mother and brother were found, I was glad to finally have him to myself now that they were awake.I left Elsiabeth's house and headed to the lake. I contemplated dressing up first but was too eager and headed to the lake instead. Upon getting there, I was surprised. Tristan was on a picnic mat with a basket, staring at the still water that reflected the shape of the full moon. His profile was handsomely illuminated by the m

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   112 I Can Breathe

Raina's POVLearning that Dean and Luna Elisabeth had pulled through and had woken up made me both glad and worried at the same time. Glad that they were fine, worried about the trouble they might cause. I know it would be impolite not to pay the former Luna respect. So I bought a flower and headed to King Darius's house, where I knew they were staying. Luckily for them, Tristan had kept the place clean, so it wasn't in disrepair, and Luna Elisabeth could easily move in. I bought her a bouquet of white carnations and a box of pistachio cookies, her favourite. This time, I watched them pack the cookies in my presence and seal the pastries in the box. I can't have risked my life to save the woman only to serve her poison. Knowing how she was and what she had gone through gave me a new level of respect for her, but I was still not over how she threatened me to be with Dean. I guess I would always have that grudge against her. It was understandable; after all, it ruined my life. When I g
