Freya's P.O.V

Another hour went by after Cameron's group left the restaurant. Everything was going smoothly and I breathed a sigh of relief on making it to the end of my shift without causing any major trouble. The day was almost at its end and I was finally going to go home and rest. At this point, I wasn't even hungry anymore…I just wanted to sleep.

I changed out of my work clothes and folded them neatly inside my locker. They should be good for another day and I'll be able to get them cleaned tomorrow so I can keep wearing them next week as well. But just as I exited the changing room, Roger was there to greet me and he didn't look happy at all.

"Wh-what is it?" I asked him, looking up at his grim face.

"One of our customers complained about your rude behaviour today." He got straight to the point. "And even though I know they are from the same school as you, I'll have to take disciplinary actions."

My heart sank to the pit of my stomach. I wasn't scared because of the complaint, because I knew Cameron's team wouldn't go down quietly after what I told them this evening. What I was scared about, was the later. Disciplinary action? Was Roger going to cut my pay? What would I do if he did? Fucking hell! I had to pay three hundred dollars worth of debt money! Where was I going to get that?

Roger sighed audibly, startling me into looking back up at his face. "Don't give me that look! I didn't just kill your pet hamster!" He frowned. "But you won't be getting any leftovers for dinner today. Got it?"

I nodded quickly, relieved that it wasn't a pay cut. "Thank you-sorry! I'll keep this in mind."

Roger didn't say anything as he went back to his table to work. Julian had already packed up his bag and was ready to go. But what I was surprised at though, was the fact that he had a huge grin on his face when I told him it was time to leave.

"What's up kiddo?" I waited till we were outside the restaurant to ask him; wondering what could have made him so happy. "You look really happy."

"I am!" Julian giggled, bouncing up and down on his feet. "Roger gave me noodles today! A lot of it! He said that someone cancelled an order so I could have it instead!"

I stopped walking.

There had been no cancelled orders today, that much I was sure about, because cancelled orders were usually handled by Roger himself and he would come out personally to investigate why a person cancelled. That means that Roger hadn't been as heartless as he made me believe. He had fed Julian while I had been busy working. He had taken care of my baby brother while I hadn't been looking.

I blinked back tears as I used the sleeves of my hoodie to wipe at my eyes. "Was it good?" I asked Julian, my voice thick with emotions as I began walking again. "Did you eat well?"

"Yes!" Julian laughed. "I ate all of it! It was sooo good! Uncle Roger told me he'll give you some too! Did you eat all?"

"Yes." I lied to him. "Of course, I did."

Although the day was full of ups and downs, it finally passed by with a not-so-bad ending.

I kept on walking, unknowing to the fact that I wasn't alone.

Cameron's P.O.V

"Derek you crossed a line today," Sarah spoke from next to me, her voice soft yet stern. "I hope you won't be repeating this mistake again."

"Sorry." He lowered his head, his black hair falling forward so that his eyes weren't visible. But I knew he wasn't sorry. He was just acting like he was so we didn't complain to the Alpha.

"Let's leave." I ordered, getting up from my seat and coming out of the restaurant. Almost everyone followed me out at once, except for Derek, who took his sweet time talking to another waiter.

"There he goes again." Alex shook his head in exasperation. "We really need to report him."

"What's the point?" Trisha frowned up at us. "He was just having fun with a human. It's not like he broke any pack rules."

"Besides," Cindy pointed out to the back alley. "I saw her walking in with a kid before entering the restaurant. Miss Righteous isn't that righteous at all!"

"Girls, is that how we speak about people nowadays?" Sarah's voice was sharp for the first time. "Being human doesn't make anyone's struggles inferior!"

"But sh-"

"Alex," I called out to my friend and the future beta, cutting off Cindy's complaints. "Please send everyone back to the pack house. I'll stay behind with Sarah."

"Sure." Alex took out his car keys and took everyone to the parking as Sarah and I stayed behind.

"Are you sure it's her?" Sarah asked once the rest of our packmates were out of ear shot. "Were you able to get a better handle on the situation today?"

Sighing, I pinched the bridge of my nose as frustration set in. "I have no idea. Her scent tells me that she could be my mate but…"

"You don't want it to be her?" Sarah asked, before nodding. "I get that. She's human. She has no idea about what we are."

"Do you really think that's the only reason?" I snapped at her. "Did you even look at the girl? She looks like a living ghost! Damn it! Why couldn't it have been you?"

"Me?" Sarah's laughter was like the tinkling of bells and it drew a few eyes in our direction. "That would be taking the easy way out! We have know each other our whole life, Cam! We're more like family than lovers!"

"But we could have been." I told her, hope still adjacent in my heart. "We can still be mates, Sarah! What if my stupid instincts are wrong? What if…they're just…malfunctioning before my 18th birthday?"

Cameron's P.O.V This time, Sarah's laughter was mocking. "Seriously, Cam! Stop making excuses. We're wolves, not robots. We don't malfunction. Besides, Freya looks like a nice girl." But I shook my head once again. I didn't want it to be true, damnit! I didn't want Freya to turn out to be my mate! We were polar opposites! And to top it all off, she was human! What was the point of me having a human mate when I was the future Alpha? "Give it time, Cam." Sarah patted my shoulder as she stepped away, in preparation to leave. "Once you imprint on her, you'll forget everything else. Have patience and trust in the will of the Moon Goddess." With that, she left me standing outside the restaurant as she walked back towards the direction of the parking, probably hoping to catch the rest of the group before they left. I debated on following after her, but decided against it. I waited for Freya instead. 'Take Sarah with you guys.' I told

Freya's P.O.V Rummaging through the bottom bathroom cabinet in my room, I finally breathed a sigh of relief when I found the packet of cup noodles at the very back of the storage unit, right behind the sanitary napkins that I stored away. I wasn't just starving at this point, but my entire body was trembling in exhaustion and low blood sugar levels. I was shaking like a leaf as I searched the entire house for food that I had hidden in safe places, so that when my dad left after finishing up all of our resources, me and Julian would still have food to eat. Taking the carton out of the cabinet, I found that there were an entire pack of the noodles left. I think I had bought it from a sale last year, when the offer had been five noodles for $3. And I had taken it without questions. Now, I found the noodles still intact and much to my surprise, only a month shy of their expiry date. Thank you God for little mercies. I closed my eyes in a silent prayer before I got o

Cameron's P.O.V A knock on my door startled me into looking up from my phone and at my mother, who had just poked her head in through my door and was now giving me a sheepish smile. I frowned. "What is it?" The only times she smiled like that was when she wanted some kind of 'technological favor', with either her smart-phone or any other electrical appliances around the house, especially when my dad wasn't around. Or…when I got in trouble with my dad. That thought itself had my frown deepening because I hadn't done anything to get into trouble for. I had been getting good grades at school; been doing my regular training on time and I had aced the monthly soldier training test for the wolves that our pack held for teens. "Mom?" I asked when she remained silent. "Am I in trouble?" "Not really…" She hesitated as she entered my room, her blonde hair tied up into a tight bun and her fancy teal colored dress told me

Freya's P.O.V I watched the waves crashing onto the shore; the stormy winds sweep my hair back from my face violently. It was five thirty in the morning and the sun had yet to rise, but there was still light in the horizon and it was enough to help me see my way around the broken pieces of wood and other debris lying on the sand. This area of the sea-shore, at the back of my house wasn't a beach. I don't think it could ever be considered one with the amount of rubbish lying around. There were far too many rocks on the shore to make swimming almost impossible, but still, whenever I was feeling down, I would come here often, just so I could watch the sun bring new light into the world. But there was another thing that often drew me to this beach. Paw prints. They were all over the sand. At first glance, they would look like regular paws, puppy paws…unless you take into account the fact that we were in a rundown neighbourhood that didn't even have dogs to begin wit

Cameron's P.O.V "So, Cam?" Derek smirked at me from across the room. "Excited for the big eighteenth?" I raised my eyebrows at him in suspicion. What was he trying to pull? And why did he look so smug about it? It was only yesterday when I had reported Derek's behaviour to my dad and he had been summoned to the Alpha's office and now had to serve twenty hours in a month in the nursery, taking care of the newborns and the toddlers while their parents went out of the pack to work. It was the kind of job every teen detested and Derek should be sulking about the fact that he got selected for the duty…not smiling about it. "It's the day you find your mate!" Derek's smile only got bigger. "But we already know who it is, right? You guys probably already feel the mating bond." Sarah shifted in her seat uncomfortable, her brows furrowed as she turned to look at me. Her eyes held the same question that was already on my mind.

Freya's P.O.V Monday morning passed by like a breeze. With my lunch making attempt with Julian on Sunday still fresh in my mind, I went from class to class without getting into any trouble and actually found myself paying more attention in class that I usually did. My only hope had been that the rest of the day would pass by the same, without any problems or complaints from my teachers…but I guess the universe didn't want me to be happy or enjoy one single, peaceful day. "Freya, submit your work." Mr. Agnes called out to me at the end of class, five minutes before the bell rang. Startled, I looked around the room, feeling like everyone's eyes were on me. Everyone, except Cameron. He didn't even turn or smirk like the rest of his team. Ever since he paid a visit to the restaurant last week, he or any of his friends hadn't shown up again or even bothered to say anything to me, mean or otherwise. I should be happy…but I wasn't. "Freya!&qu

Cameron's P.O.V "Cam…I forgot my notebook in class," Sarah looked up at me through her long dark lashed, her eyes shining innocently. "Can you please go back and get it for me?" I narrowed my eyes at her. "What are you trying to do?" We were at the almost empty school's parking lot and Alex and the rest of the group had already headed back home in Alex's jeep. Sarah usually went to and from school with me, in my car, but this was the first time that she had ever asked me to go back and 'get' something for her, especially since she had an amazing memory and never really forgot anything behind…unless it was purposeful. "Me? I'm trying to get my notebook." She blinked her eyes oh-so-innocently, like I didn't understand her strategy. "Please? I'm tired. I went out for a really long run last night and my heels are aching…" I raised my eyebrows at her, not moving an inch from my spot. Sarah sighed, dropping

Cameron's P.O.V For a second, the shock of it had me frozen…until my wolf came to roaring life. "You bastard!" A shout tore through me, sounding more like a growl than my human voice as I ran towards the two of them and ripped the leech off of Freya with my fingers around his neck. Mr. Agnes tried to pry my hand off of his neck, but I tossed him aside onto the floor. However, the leech didn't make the mistake of staying for a fight. The instant he hit the ground, he scrambled on to his hands and knees and crawled out of the classroom, before breaking into a run as soon as he was back on his feet. I grit my teeth, wanting to follow him, to bash in his skull…but then I remembered that Freya was still in the room, and from the frantic beat of her heart…she was scared. My wolf howled inside my head, urging me to go to Freya first. Its claws and fangs extended when I tried to go against my wolf's orders. I found that I couldn't leave her alone, not li

Lilac's P.O.V It's been a long ride and a very eventful one at that and anytime I think about what Krimson and I have been through, I'm just grateful we had the strength to go through everything we went through and we were able to come out of it even stronger than how we were before. As the sun cast its warm, golden rays across the university campus, I found myself sitting on a bench, the weight of decisions pressing against my chest. The soft whispers of the leaves rustling in the gentle breeze mirrored the conflicted thoughts swirling in my mind. Krimson, my mate, had offered a future tied to our pack, an enticing prospect for many, but not for me. I gazed at the sprawling grounds, feeling a tug in my heart that wasn't just about academic pursuits. The university held promises beyond the textbooks and lectures. It offered freedom—freedom to carve my own identity, to explore knowledge that extended far beyond the boundaries of our pack's traditions. I yearned to brea

Krimson's P.O.V I woke up to the pale light filtering through the hospital room, the faint beeping of monitors sounding in the background. My vision was hazy at first, the events leading up to this moment a jumbled mess in my mind. As I blinked and slowly tried to focus, the first thing that became clear was Lilac's form, peacefully asleep in a chair next to my bed. Relief washed over me as memories flooded back, fragments piecing together into a coherent narrative. "Lilac," I whispered softly, my voice hoarse from disuse. She stirred slightly, a faint flutter of eyelashes against her cheeks, but she remained deep in slumber. The sight of her there, unwavering by my side, despite everything that had transpired, filled me with an inexplicable warmth. I couldn't help but recall the chaos of that night—the confrontation, the whirlwind of emotions, and then the blankness as consciousness slipped away from me. But here I was, waking up to her steadfast presence. It m

Lilac's P.O.V I watched Silver hurl accusations at me, adding to my guilt. I wanted to explain, to make her understand that it wasn't intentional, that the circumstances had shifted beyond my control. But words seemed to desert me in that moment as I grappled with the weight of her accusation. However, Krimson's voice echoed in the room then, commanding even though weak. "Silver, it's not Lilac's fault," he said firmly, his voice carrying the weight of authority. "I made the decision. I took action to protect." Silver's gaze snapped toward Krimson, her eyes filled with disbelief. "What are you saying, Krimson? You hated her, didn't you? Then why would you risk your life to save her?" Krimson shook his head solemnly. "No, Silver. I never hated Lilac, it was our circumstances that I hated. It felt like the Goddess had played a cruel joke on me. But I couldn't run away from a bond fated by the goddess herself, Silver. I had caused Lilac enough pain as it is…I

Lilac's P.O.V I nodded, my mind racing with the urgency of the situation. I moved towards Silver, hoping against hope that all of this worked. "Silver…" I called out to her slowly, making her head snap in my direction. "Please…you need to stop all of this." But Silver's face twisted in a sinister smirk. "It's too late to stop any of this, Lilac. This ends with one of us." "It doesn't have to be that way, Silvia." I shook my head, pleading with her. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Del approaching her steadily from behind her, while I kept on engaging her in conversion. "It does, Lilac." Silver snapped at me, turning her body around so she was facing me completely. "You don't understand-" It was all Del needed, for her to turn away, so that our plan worked. Without wasting a second, he came up behind Silver and wrapped his arms around her body, holding her in place as he took her by surprise

Lilac's P.O.V For a moment, time seemed suspended, the tableau frozen in an eerie stillness. Silver hesitated, her gaze flickering between me and Krimson, the dagger held poised in the air, its lethal purpose momentarily forgotten in the face of Krimson's interruption. "Step away from her, Silver," Krimson's voice cut through the tension, unwavering and authoritative. His stance was firm, commanding obedience without question. The grip of Silver's magic lessened, the pressure easing just enough for me to draw a ragged breath. My muscles protested as I struggled against the binds anew, though I didn't dare to take my eyes off Silver, her expression a maelstrom of conflicting emotions - anger, desperation, and a hint of something I couldn't quite place. "Krimson, you shouldn't be here," Silver's voice wavered, a tremor betraying the turmoil within her. Her grip on the dagger faltered, uncertainty clouding her features. Lilac's P.O.V The air was thick with tension, a palpable energy that crackled around us like a storm waiting to break. "Silver, you're fooling yourself if you think you can wield that kind of power," I said softly, my gaze fixed on the gleaming knife in her hands. "You're not a true Silver Alpha Breeder, you never will be. You can't ever access my full potential." Silver's laughter cut through the serene air, a sound that held a hint of something darker beneath its surface. "Oh, you have no idea, do you?" Her eyes glinted with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine. "You underestimate what a witch can do, what I can do. I'm part wolf, part witch. I'm a hybrid that is already stronger than both a wolf and a witch! There's nothing I cannot do, Lilac!" "You think I chose you to lead our pack because of some noble sentiment? No, Lilac." Her voice was cold, devoid of any warmth. "I chose you because I knew the stronger you became, the more that dormant p

Lilac's P.O.V My eyes brimmed with confusion and hurt as I confronted Silver in the dimly lit room I was being held captive in. "Did you…ever really consider me a friend, Silver?" my voice trembled with a mixture of fear and desperation, my heart aching with the weight of betrayal. Silver, her gaze heavy with sorrow and a haunted past, met my eyes. "I used to belong to a peaceful pack, a pack that had been my home since the day I was born," she began, her voice tinged with a raw emotion that spoke volumes of her pain. "We lived in harmony, in unity. It was everything to me." Tears welled up in Silver's eyes, reflecting the agony of memories etched deep within her soul. "Your father," she whispered, the words heavy with anguish. "He... he attacked our pack. In the dead of night, when darkness cloaked the land, he led a brutal assault." Krimson's P.O.V The night hung heavy around us as we tore through the city streets, the engine's roar mingling with the howling wind. Del and I were on a mission—racing against time to reach Silver's apartment. It was imperative that we find Lilac before anything sinister unfolded. "Alpha Krimson, step on it!" Del's voice cut through the adrenaline-charged air, urgency lacing every word. His grip tightened on the door handle as we swerved through the dimly lit alleys, the neon signs blurring into streaks of color. "I'm pushing it as hard as I can!" I shouted back, my eyes fixed on the road ahead. The weight of worry pressed on me like a leaden cloak. We had to reach Silver's place, and had to find Lilac safe and sound. Finally, screeching to a halt outside Silver's building, we leaped out of the car. Breathless and tense, we dashed up the stairs, each step echoing the pounding of our hearts. As we reached Silver's door, our hopes soared, but a hollow silence gre

Lilac's P.O.V As I slowly arose to consciousness, I found myself grappling with the weight of my heavy eyelids. My mind sluggishly pieced together the fragments of reality, pushing through a dense fog of disorientation. The air felt heavy, each inhale a laborious effort that failed to fill my lungs as it should. A peculiar lightheadedness swept over me, a disconcerting sensation akin to floating on the edge of a dream. My initial attempt to stretch my arms, to move, met an unexpected resistance. Panic flickered through my drowsy mind as the realization hit home—I was restrained. My fingertips brushed against something coarse and unyielding, confirming my fear. The sensation sent a jolt of adrenaline through my groggy state, clearing the haze momentarily. I tried to rise, only to discover the cruel truth of my predicament: bound, not just by ropes or chains, but tied firmly to what appeared to be a marble table. The cool surface pressed against my skin, a s
