CHAPTER SEVEN

NOLAN'S POV

"How is she?" I ask Alex who's standing by Catania's room door.

Trust me, even I myself do not know why I have come here. I tried to get her off my mind, to stop thinking about how unsafe she feels right now, but I couldn't, so I made a rash decision to come and check up on her.

Absurd thing is, I'm not even thinking about it's mate who is in my bedroom right now, prolly waiting for me to come to her. I'm not thinking about her at all, but here I am, obsessing about Catania's safety and comfort.

There's something fundamentally wrong with me.

"Well, she hasn't screamed or broken things or cried, she should be fine"

"Oh…" I gently open the door and peek in. Ander sprints up on my mind when I see her petite frame lying on the bed, probably asleep.

The smell Caramel mixed with honey and chocolate fills my nostrils and I close my eyes and sniff in a long deep breath. All my nerves and senses go in total disarray and my entire body feels giddy.

There's this weird tingly feeling in my stomach, like three are a million butterflies flying in it. I look around and when I see Alex staring at me, I quickly step into the room and close the door.

No one else can know that this girl affects me so much. This is just absurd.

"Mate!" Ander screams yet again in my mind and I ignore him.

I don't know why, but I suddenly feel very hot and I'm sweating out of nervousness. I have never felt like this before anyone before.

I am Alpha Nolan, Paramount Alpha of the Ten Lands and I do not tremble in the presence of any werewolf. On the contrary, other werewolves and their Alphas tremble before me. They do not have the courage to look me in the eye during a conversation because of my rank, my power and of course, my reputation, but here I am, squirming in the presence of an eighteen-year old girl.

I stop walking when Catania shakes on the bed. I watch in fascination as she mumbles incoherent words in her sleep as she changes her sleeping position. Her black hair is all over the place and her snow white skin is almost unnoticeable in those while sheets. Her breasts rise and fall as she takes in short breaths, her pink rosy lips look so succulent and I find myself wishing how they would taste and feel on mine.

They will definitely taste like strawberries.

She's gorgeous.

Perfect and I can stand here and stare at her all day without batting an eyelid. But I can't do that.

I need to get away from here, away from her before I lose my mind!

I swirl around and head out of the bedroom without glancing back even once because I know if I do, I will go to that bed and join her in her nap.

That is how much her pheromone affects me.

"How is she?" Nigel asks the moment I walk into my office. I'm actually startled to see him here. We had agreed to meet again during dinner.

"Who are you talking about?"

"Catania, of course. I was told she was found roaming around the corridor"

Rumour indeed travels like wildfire

"Ah… yeah. Of course you've been told. She's fine. She's actually asleep right now"

"I see…"

"I just don't want her causing any commotion among the unmated guards."

"Yeah, we wouldn't want that"

"But then… Why does this feel wrong?"

"What feels wrong?" He asks, concerned and I heave out an exasperated sigh.

"Me wanting to give her to my brother. I don't know why, but after all that you have explained, I feel like… no… no… what am I saying. What I'm doing is the right thing. It's her stealer pheromone that's making me think all these things"

I really need to stop going too close to that girl. She's clouding my judgement and her pheromone is making me say things I'm not supposed to say.

Nigel smiles as he walks over to me.

"All I want to know is how you intend to go about this?"

"What do you mean?"

"You mentioned the fact that you want to give her to Kai. How do you intend to go about that?"

"Well, as of now, Kai is still in a manic state and Catania's scent will only enrage him the more. He might harm her if she is taken close to him" I explain and he lets out another heavy sigh.

"Nolan, I really don't want to sound judgy, but don't you think that's unfair? I learned the young girl just turned eighteen and she's still trying to understand herself. Her wolf has not been awakened and she just found out that she is a stealer. You have taken her away from her family to this strange pack where she has to be a rebound to some strange man who had lost his mate. Don't you think that's a lot for that little girl to take in?"

"So, are you trying to say I'm heartless"

"No, not at all. I'm just asking you to put yourself in her shoes."

"Nigel, I know exactly what I'm doing. It might seem cruel, but trust me it's for her own good. She's not just going to be Kai's rebound, she's going to be his mate, his wife and that is a good thing for her. I am trying to give her a decent life"

"But she doesn't see it that way"

"Because she's so stubborn and she has totally refused to use her head"

"Well, can you blame her?" He asks with a creased brow and I roll my eyes.

"Nigel just leave me the hell alone okay. I am the Alpha here and I know exactly what I'm doing, I promise"

"Of course you do." He says walking to the door.

I know that tone of his.

He is upset and he's going to spend the next two weeks treating me like a stranger.

"Nigel don't be mad" I try to follow him.

"No I'm not, I'm just disappointed. You can do better"

Then he exits my office, banging the door hard behind him.

Yeah, he is mad and I'm finished.

Why is he even taking Catania's side on this issue?

She is a stranger for goodness sake!
