A voice in the corner spoke up just as blood trickled down my skin.
"Let her go, Soph."It was a male voice.
I looked at the direction where it had come from but no matter how much I squinted my eyes to see this person, it was near impossible due to how dark the area he sat was.
I couldn't see him but I knew I got a very weird vibe off him.
"I really think it's time to get rid of this bitch," the woman, who still had her hands wrapped around me but not as tightly as before, spoke.
That can be arranged," the man's cold voice spoke and my jaw tightened.
From where he sat, he clapped his hands together and everyone turned to face him, myself included.
"Get ready, everyone. He'll be here soon," he announced and walked away but not before sending one last look my way.
"Count yourself lucky," the woman spat before shoving me softly to the side and I fell on my butt.
Perfect.
"Get up," someone said and before I could look up, a gasp escaped my lips as a glass of cold water was emptied over my head.
Utterly surprised, I tried to get up but my knees failed me and I fell back to the ground, making the girls around her giggle.
"Pathetic mutt," the girl who I hadn't seen before said. "Get ready. The beta is coming with an important announcement to for us. It wouldn't be nice if he met you looking like filth," she said and sauntered away with her minions.
"Fuck," I muttered to myself as the cold liquid slid down my back, making goosebumps rise along my skin.
Wait…
The beta!
Jason!
My heart fluttered wildly at the thought of seeing Jason again.
The love of my life.
He would fix whatever this is and get me out of here once he sees me.
After a couple more attempts, I was off the ground and on my feet.
But it was too late because I didn't know which way the girls had gone and I was met by a very long hallway.
Sighing softly, I started walking towards that direction.
I passed a couple of werewolves and they sneered at me but I ignored them.
"Keep your eyes on the ground, mutt," one of them said as I passed.
"I wasn't even looking at your ugly face," the response sat at the tip of my tongue but I held it back.
All that was important to me was finding a way out of here.
After trying to open a lot of doors that wouldn't bulge, one finally gave way and I was met with two pairs of eyes.
"Uhmm…"
"Don't just stand there like a moron," the blonge girl snapped. "Come in and get ready," she added and rolled her eyes.
I bit my tongue and walked in.
"Um..can I get clothes?" I asked after standing awkwardly in the middle of the room for a while.
I looked down at the soaked clothes on my body and cringed.
"Did you suddenly develop amnesia?" The same girl asked.
"Ruby," the other girl in the room called in a warning tone but there was a hint of amusement in her voice. "There," she pointed to a small drawer.
I nodded once before walking towards it and pulling out a pair of old jeans and ratty shirt and those were the nicest things there, I tell you.
I felt the girls watching me like a hawk as I walked towards the door on the side of the room and luckily, it was a bathroom.
A neat one.
Letting out a deep breath, I peeled the wet clothes off my body and jumped into the shower, losing track of time.
I cringed at the thought of using the towel on the hanger.
Although it was neat, I opted to stand and wait for my body to dry.
Something caught my attention from my peripheral vision and my blood ran cold.
"What the fuck?" I muttered as I walked closer to it.
I looked over my shoulder to make sure there was nobody behind me and just as expected, I was alone in the bathroom.
I gulped and turned back to the mirror.
I moved to the right and the reflection moved with me.
I moved to the left and it did same.
I opened my mouth and its mouth opened widely as well.
"What the hell?" I said in utter shock and disbelief.
I brought up my hand to touch my hair that was originally black but now a fiery red color.
My glowing skin was now very dull and pale and my blue eyes that used to be full of life was now a dull brown color with heavy eyebags underneath them.
Fresh and old bruises covered every inch of my body.
I held the counter for support as the last 24 hours played in front of my eyes.
The man holding my heart in his hand, waking up in that cold bathroom and having people call me by that weird name.
I was in a different body.
How was that even possible?
"Tabitha!" A loud bang on the door broke my train of thoughts.
The loud bang came again and I shoved all the thoughts to a corner in my mind and opened the door.
I was going to deal with all of that later.
The house was bigger than I'd expected and right in the middle of the living room was the love of my life.
"Jason," I whispered and his eyes met mine.
His eyes were rimmed with red and his shoulders were slumped.
"What did you just call me?" He asked.
Of course!
He didn't know me.
He didn't know this person.
And I couldn't just say "hey, baby, it's me. I was killed and I woke up in another body." That would only make me look like a nut case or worse, I'll become a lab rat for crazy scientists.
I needed proof.
Jason was a rational man who didn't do things based on emotions.
He would never believe me if I told him who I am without solid proof so….
"Eyes on the ground," He said in a harsh voice I'd never heard from him and I bit the inside of my cheeks in anger and looked away from him.
He looked at me for a couple of seconds before addressing everyone.
"As you all know, one of the Alpha's maids died and they need a replacement. I'm here to pick one of you," he said, "to serve the Alpha."
A deathly silence fell upon the room.
I didn't blame them.
The Alpha's name always came with fear and tremor.
There was no easy access to him. Even with my rank in the army, I had only gotten a glimpse of him once but I didn't see his face.
There was a whole mystery behind him and his castle and his enormous wealth that made people tremble.
"There's going to be a little test and of course," Jason continued. "The Alpha would be watching."
The Alpha would be watching?
Damn. I can tell this is the best chance to change the status quo.
Ares' pov"Let them begin," I said into the receiver and tossed the phone to the side. I growled at the pile of work that stared back at me on the table. Watching a stupid maid inspection was the least of my worries. But it's the job I need to do in person. My maid should be someone I could trust with. I ran my fingers through my hair as I picked up the first file. "What's this rubbish?" I growled and tossed the first presentation into the wastebasket next to me. After going through a couple more files and thrashing them like the first, I threw my head back on the chair and my eyes landed on the large screen in front of me. Just before I could look away, my eyes caught a redhead. Well. I'd say she was beautiful but that wasn't what had caught my attention because I'd seen a lot of beautiful women in my long life. What caught my attention was her bold stance and the way she stared at Jason while he briefed them about the inspection. She was easily the smallest amongst all the
"What?" I gawked at him. "What?" Jason turned to me. "Do you have a problem with this as well? Because you seem to have a problem with everything," he said. I squared my shoulders and pulled my best fake smile. "There's no problem," I said. "Good," he nodded once and looked away. I muttered a string of curses under my breath. Cooking? Why?! I managed to do the laundry because I did a lot of that when I was away at camp and didn't have access to the washing machine and the cleaning because I helped clean the house most times when I wasn't so busy with work, but cooking? That was where I drew the line. I didn't know the first thing about that. Why didn't they give us tasks like shooting targets on a moving horse or something? I groaned inwardly as I watched Jason speak. I'd never felt the urge to slap someone across the face like I felt like doing Jason. He had been picking on me all day. Was he always this annoying and I didn't notice because I was blinded with love? Ye
“Me?” I pointed at my chest.Don't blame me, but this came as a surprise because I knew I hadn't done as much as so many other people. How was it possible that I had been chosen?Jason gave me a pointed look that said he thought I was an idiot before looking away.“Get your things and meet me outside in five,” he said without sparing me another glance and walked out with the lady who had previously introduced herself as Clara.I rolled my eyes at his snobbish behavior and vaguely wondered if he had always been that way.Well, I didn't mind his behavior as long as I would be getting out of here.Speaking of which, I turned around to meet scornful glares and some girls had their hands over their mouths as they giggled behind them.“What's funny?” I snapped. My reaction must have surprised them because more than a couple of gasps were heard.“She really back-talks now,” one girl whispered to the other girl beside her.Well, duh.“Oh, nothing,” one of the girls, out of the abundant kindne
“Shut up and sit like the pretty maid that you are. Know your place and remain there,” he growled. He didn't let me finish. Fine. Jason. Fine.I stared at him for a few seconds before rolling my eyes and looking out the window.Surprisingly, we were already pulling into the Alpha's castle. The car soon rolled to a stop in front of the house and I hopped out of the car, wanting to get away from Jason as soon as possible before my anger hit the ceiling, but the elegance I had imagined while exiting the car wasn't exactly how it happened and from how I overstepped, the next thing I knew the world was tilting to the side and I fell face first on the ground.“Oww,” I groaned and rubbed my palm flat on my nose to ease the pain.Jason chuckled and Clara snorted as they walked past me.“Competence indeed,” Jason said under his breath but clear enough for me to hear.He was mocking me.“Yeah, thanks for your help,” I said sarcastically and rolled my eyes before helping myself up.I dusted my
Ares' pov“Good night….I mean…good day, Alpha,” the voice of whoever had picked the intercom stuttered and I rolled my eyes.“Send the new maid up,” I said firmly.“Wha…wha…”The long beep followed as I ended the call, not having any time to mince words.I knew the effect I had on people and I loved it. I loved to exercise control and power while instilling fear in people. I loved it that way. That was who I was and I wasn't changing.I didn't even know why I requested to see the new maid. Maybe it was her confidence during the tests or just my wolf sending signals to the rest of my body and messing up with my logical thinking.I turned back to the screen of my laptop and scrolled aimlessly.I couldn't concentrate.I hadn't been able to since…“Fuck!” I groaned and hit my fist on the table, not enough to break it.I'd had my table changed more than five times this month and we're barely on the sixteenth day.“This won't do,” I shook my head and stood up, walking straight to the bathr
I stared at him like he had grown a second head.Maybe he has.“Mate,” he repeated, more surely this time.I frowned and my hands fell on my sides. I tried to feel it.Yes, there was a stir somewhere deep inside me but nothing else.I'd heard tales of how mates felt when they found each other but I felt almost nothing. Was this a joke?I wanted to laugh in his face but the look he gave me made even me hold my tongue.Different emotions crossed his eyes at once from anger to sadness to pain and was that….regret?“No,” I said inwardly. This was the last thing I needed.I didn't need a mate. Not now.And especially not one that was looking at me like he wanted to rain fire and brimstone over my head.“Mate,” he said and this time, every emotion in his voice and eyes were replaced with just two.Hate and disgust.Right at that moment, I knew it.I didn't need to be told.I knew what was running through his mind.It was as clear as day.“I….”That was my cue.I cut him off and beat him to
I looked around the hallway and tried to walk normally.I mean as normal as one who has a plan under their sleeves would walk.Cautiously, I took another step forward and I felt giddy inside as I saw the bright blue sky, something I hadn't seen in the three days I've been here.I crossed the threshold of the large doors and the crisp smell of air wafted through my nostrils, causing me to inhale deeply and filling me with warmth.A small smile spread across my cheeks and I wished I had more time to bask in the warmth of the sun but I knew I had limited time.I stepped on the grass and barely another step later, the world flipped to the side and my body collided with the ground with a loud thud.“Oww,” I grunted loudly and turned upward, still laying on the ground. Two guards came in view, standing above me with their swords drawn.“What are you doing?” The meaner one asked.Standing up there, staring down at me, and me laying down here with the sun threatening to blind me, wasn't exact
“Who are you?” I found myself repeating her question. This person obviously didn't like to be asked questions because her over-lined red lips curved up in a sneer. She was beautiful with bright blue eyes but those eyes held animosity as she stared down at me from her six-inch heels.“Haven't seen you around here before. You must be the new maid,” she said.“Haven't seen you around either,” I retorted.I knew I was being annoying but who cares? She narrowed her eyes in slits and bent down a bit so we were eye-level.“You seem not to know your place. I am the Alpha's….”The door burst open, cutting her off and she immediately stood upright and straightened her dress with her palm.I didn't even need to turn around to know who had entered. His presence, strong and domineering filled the room, almost bringing me to my knees.“What are you doing here?” His husky voice boomed. The woman, whose name I still didn't know, turned to me with a knowing smirk and crossed her arms over her chest.I
