Only one chapter today! Sorry, everyone. I am having surgery later and I need to take a break to recover. I will update more tomorrow!
[Sylvester]The Board of Directors is unhappy that I reprimanded Alexis at the gala. "If she is to be your Luna, you will need to handle your private issues in private. What you did was an insult to the other packs as well as Silver Crescent."I was ordered to "play nice" and "make a good show.""I have no interest in mating, marrying, or marking that bitch," I scream loud enough that a few employees passing my office windows jump. "Just take her out to lunch and make sure the cameras see you," Beta-Emertis Clancy insists, "You haven't officially declared anyone your new Luna. Rental Lunas don't count, not unless your relationship shifts to something more meaningful." His sneering tone oozes through the phone. I wish he was here so I could punch his canines in. "Unless you were planning to propose to your Rental Luna? Where was she, buy the way, she has been noticeably absent.""She needs some private time to adjust to the pack," I lie smoothly. It isn't a total lie. I intend to retur
[Apple] My phone feels like a rock as I place it in my pocket. I thought I'd feel better, texting Thorne for a date. But I don't. I just feel angry, hurt, and confused. Just last week I was head over heels in love with Zion, ready to share the last of my body and all of my heart only to have it shattered into a thousand pieces. And then I met Sylvester. One of the sexiest, most powerful creatures on two legs. He tells me I'm exactly what he wants. Me. But I rejected him. Because his power and passion terrifies me. Because a girl like me shouldn't crave something so dangerous. When this Alexis person showed up it felt like a confirmation of every dark thought I've ever had and every nasty word that has ever been said about me. I'm too weak to be wanted, not enough, pathetic. And while part of me wants to just accept and let go, another part of me feels an overwhelming possessiveness that makes no sense. We have a contract, nothing more, a contract I hope to break as soon a
[Apple] "Thorne," I let my arms fall to my sides. "I need to speak with you." "I'm guessing we aren't going out on our date," he looks so angry his hazel eyes seem to almost spark as he turns his head towards the sun. "Just tell me one thing," he keeps his head turned as he closes his eyes and sighs. "Did I even stand a chance? Or did you already have your heart set on this wolf?" He says wolf as if it is a curse. "It's not that," I try to explain. "I'm just fulfilling the requirements of my position..." "I thought you were going to quit," he cuts me off. "You said you didn't want this job and now all of a sudden you're moving in with him," his voice raises. "That escalated rather quickly, don't you think?" Before I have a chance to reply he stomps up the stairs, leaving me alone on the street. Do I follow him? Do I give him space? In the end, the decision is made for me when Hazel pops her head out of the window. "Are you coming up, Apple? We have a surprise for you! I jog u
[Apple]The sticky smell of stale popcorn and spilled soda mixed with old pizza and teenagers seems to be universal in roller skating rinks regardless of species. If it weren't for the fact that a few of the faces were a little more furry and a few had a bit of a glow to them, I could anywhere in the world right now--even Pleasant Valley. "This is what I wanted to show you," he opens the door to a private room overlooking the rink. It is dimly lit with colorful overhead holiday lights, strung in chains across the ceiling. On the table are several large pizzas, a few pitchers of different flavored soda, an oversized basket of fries, and a couple dozen hamburgers. "You aren't a vegetarian are you?"Did he rent this room out just for us? This is almost like something a "normal" date might do, except that a normal date wouldn't order enough food to feed a football team. He drops my hand and begins making himself a large plate. "This place has the best burgers in town. I've never found a
[Apple]Grabbing a towel, I scrub the writing from the mirror as best as I can, but instead of coming clean, it leaves a pinkish-red stain across several panes of glass. Next, I try soap and a bit of cleanser I find under the sink, but the best I can manage is to make the letters a little less clear as if reading them while wearing a friend's glasses. Giving up, I look around for something to cover my face, I tie a hand towel over my nose and run around the room opening every window in an attempt to dissipate the smell. When I look over at the bed, I see that my nose didn't deceive me when I first walked in. "That nasty bitch peed on my bed!" I growl. "Come on! All doesn't she know I'm just doing my job!""She's just trying to scare you away," the voice inside my head suggests. "Don't let her win." Grimacing, I hunt under the sink until I find a pair of rubber gloves and pull the comforter off of the bed along with all of the sheets, blankets, and ruined clothes. Once I have everyth
[Sylvester]I knew that she was the right pick for this job. She is so different from any she-wolf I've ever dated. She shapes the world around her with her smiles and frowns, brightening the room with her light. She almost glows with energy, and when I saw her with the pups tonight, I could tell that they could feel it too. If she were a wolf, I'd have been afraid to make her my Rental Luna. A wolf with that much charisma is destined to run a pack. Because she's a human, she'll never be a threat. "She'd never be a threat because she is ours," Rufus rolls his eyes in my mind."Alexis was once ours too, remember?" Or so we thought. I don't understand why she's come back. I know it's not for me, no matter what she's been telling the Board of Directors. "Apple is different," Rufus insists. "She is OURS." The way he emphasizes our ownership of her usually means one very particular thing--something that can't be possible. If it were, I'd send her as far away from me as possible. I can
[Apple]"Good Morning, Apple," the Alpha stretches slowly. "Did you have pleasant dreams? You were making quite a bit of noise in your sleep." He plants a kiss on my temple and then rolls out of bed as if waking up next to me is the most natural thing in the world. I try not to watch him stalk around the room in his boxers but I fail. Miserably. He's an absolute adonis. His body is so well-formed that even his muscles seem to have muscles. He isn't overly bulky but moves with the predatory grace of a wild animal designed to hunt its prey. And right now that prey is me. I take long steadying breaths as he walks toward his bathroom. "How did I end up in your bed," I ask in what I hope sounds like a neutral voice although internally I'm seething. I fell asleep on the couch, the only way I could have gotten here is if he carried me in here from the couch where I fell asleep."Don't worry," he says to assuage my worried frown. "We didn't do anything more than sleep next to one another, a
[Apple]Every time I cross the threshold into Sterling Incorporated feels like a completely new experience. The first time it was as a scared human. The second time it was as a scared Rental Luna. But this time...I'll be on the alpha's arm wearing a dress so low-cut that everyone can see his love bite. I'm worried. No, I'm terrified. My nerves are on edge. According to Beta Rudy, I'm the first Luna to ever receive this treatment. Or at least that is what he said when explained his difference in behavior. He has always treated me with respect, but when he saw the mark, he stepped his formality up a notch or two."Luna," he bowed with such reverence as he opened the car door. It was as if I was already married, mated, marked, and crowned. When I asked Sly about it, his shrug did nothing to hide his sideways smirk. "Even when was courting and later married to Alexis, she never appeared with a mark like yours. It might...raise a few questions." He warns. "So you did this without knowing
