Today is going to be different, better. I can sense it.

“I taste change in the air,” Hazel announces as she enters the kitchen and pours herself a cup of coffee. “Can you feel it?”

Oddly enough I can. As the Autumn winds blow through our open window they feel electric, alive with possibilities.

After school, we all gather back at the apartment to prepare for tonight. Iris brings us all uniforms from her work. “My boss is so grateful that you are willing to help. We’ve been short-staffed staffed and the holiday season will be here soon.”

We decided to take my car since it is the nicest and roomiest. Thorne is the last to arrive, and I wave him over. “You’ll have to get dressed there,” I hand him the tuxedo that the male servers are expected to wear. He smiles at the short black dress that makes up my uniform. “We look like we’re guests, not servers.

“Hey lovebirds hurry up,” Iris shouts from the passenger's seat and the other two chitter like schoolgirls as I roll my eyes.
