WREN
I’ve been camped out here by the village for almost a week now. Still, there’s no sign of Raven. I figured she’d at least come and sit with me. I can only assume Lucius is keeping her in the camp.
There’s no way I’m leaving, so it’s just a waiting game at this point.
Lucius does seem to be breaking a bit. The other day at the lake showed that. He seemed a tad less aggressive than normal. Don’t think I didn’t notice his arousal either because I did.
He also didn’t threaten me in his usual way either. Instead, he just left. I wonder if he’s accepted our standoff for now. It seems like it.
As I watch the village from afar, I can see movement. They seem to be in a hurry.
I stand and watch as some women and pups hug the men and walk off to a different part of the forest. The men turn back into the village.
I’m curious to know what’s going on? Is this some job the women and children can do or is something happening that requires the women and children to leave.
I decide to check it out. It’s probably going to get my ass kicked, but I feel like I can help.
I walk along the dirt path into the village. Men are running here and there barking orders. Some women that have been left behind are preparing their pups for a journey. They look worried. The older pups look scared. I’ve seen those faces before.
Someone’s coming.
The men are running with weapons and seem to be preparing for a battle. I walk through the center as they run around me. They’re so focused, they barely notice me.
“Wren? What are you doing here?” Curtis was stockpiling some supplies.
I look around as men rush past. The last of the women rush their pups out of the village. “Curtis, what’s happening?”
He walks up to me. “Nothing we can’t handle. Now you better get out of here before Lucius sees you.”
“Curtis. I can help.” I insist.
“No! You can’t!” Lucius comes up the path from the back of the village.
“Yes, I can, Lu.” I place my hands on my hips. “I’m a trained fighter. I can help you.”
“I don’t need your help. Get out of my village now.” He glares at me.
“Why do you have to be so stubborn?! I’m trying to help you!” I yell at him.
“You wouldn’t understand. Now, go!” His arm points past my head.
“Fine. If the tables turn, you know where to find me.” I turn and walk out of the village toward my own camp.
I spent the night watching and listening to the village. It was eerily quiet. Usually there’s some noise coming from it.
The evacuation seems to be done. I guess they are waiting for whoever is coming or whatever is going to happen.
By daybreak, I was in the woods collecting firewood when I heard the growls.
From behind a tree at the edge of the clearing, I saw them. Eight snow white wolves running through the grass with a very large brown one right up front. Three of the wolves had saddle bags. They shifted and dressed and entered the village.
I recognized those wolves. The Dragons are here.
I sneak around the tree line up to the village and slide myself cautiously between two houses. I get myself close to the center square. I see Lucius and some men standing in the square and opposite him, I see a dark brown-haired man with the evilest eyes I’ve ever seen. He’s standing with a blonde-haired man who looks very smug. Actually, all Dragons are smug until we smash their faces into the floor.
But this guy. He looks like the type that would help you, but then snap your neck without a second thought. His expression gives me the shivers.
I crouch behind a rain barrel as I listen. I’m trying to assess the situation.
“Lucius.” The evil man starts. “We have a treaty. We give you protection, you give me your men.” The man adjusts his suit lapels and shirt sleeves.
“Fuck your treaty. We have no men to spare.” Lucius spits.
“You can’t be hostile to me, Alpha. I don’t like hostility.” He tilted his head down slightly, glaring at Lucius.
He steps closer. “You know, I still have 2500 under my command. I can bring them down on you and you wouldn’t even have a sliver of a chance.” The man steps even closer. “The only reason I keep Torrent’s treaties alive is because, honestly, I think you’re cute with your little Tarzan life here. It’s……. entertaining.” His voice was filled with cockiness.
“You don’t get rid of us because you know we’re stronger than your own men. Without us, you would be more devastated than you are now.” Lucius' fists were balled at his sides. His jaw clenched.
The man ticked his head quick. “True. You are more agile and stronger than most Dragons, but your numbers are pathetic. You’re becoming more trouble than you’re worth. That’s why I’m changing the terms of our agreement.”
“You can’t do that.” Lucius grits.
“Oh, but I can.” The man closes the gap on Lucius. “I own you, Alpha. Without Aurora, your people would suffer. Without us, the other tribes would annihilate you. Without me, Lucius, you wouldn’t even be Alpha. Remember that.”
He stared down Lucius with those evil eyes.
“What are your terms.” Lucius asks reluctantly.
“Today, I want four of your best fighters. I also want breeders. Six to be exact. Unmated. They must be prime women.” The man grins. “Then I want the pack.”
“Never!” Lucius growls.
The man tilts his head again and punches Lucius right in the jaw. Sending him to the ground. I had to cover my mouth to stop myself from making noise.
Lucius rubs his jaw. His men start to step forward and he puts his hand up to them to stop them. He lifts his head and shoots daggers at the man.
The man crouches down to Lucius' level. “I’ll give you three months to get your affairs in order. In three months, this pack becomes Dragons either my choice or by force. Anyone who fights against us will die. Do we have an accord?”
Before I could stop myself, I jump from my hiding spot. “No! We don’t!” I stride into the center of the village. My lips in a snarl.
The man looked shocked at the sight of me. Lucius looked like he was about to rip my head off.
I stop and cross my arms. “This pack will die before it becomes Dragon filth.” I spit.
The man stands. “I’m sorry. I don’t believe we’ve met. Xavier Black.” He bows. “You are?”
I glance at Lucius as he gets to his feet. “Don’t.” He warns me then turns to Xavier. “She’s no one. Just a pain in my ass that won’t go away.”
Xavier smiles. He runs his thumb across his bottom lip as his monstrous eyes travel up and down my body. “Well then, if she’s nobody, we can take her off your hands right now.”
I squint my eyes. “You’re not laying a hand on me.” I grind.
“Sweetheart, I don’t think you realize who it is your challenging.” He grins.
“Oh, I know who you are. You’re Dragon scum. I’ve been fighting you my whole life and I’m not about to stop now.” I take a step closer. Balling my hands into fists.
Xavier looks to Lucius. “She’s feisty. I like it.” He turns back to me. “What’s your name?”
I step closer. Lucius protests. “Don’t!” I hold a hand up to him as I challenge the man. “I am Alpha Wren Miller. Oldest daughter of Alpha Duncan Miller. Helena is my pack and if you or any other Dragon asshole even thinks of touching one hair on any of my people, I’ll tear your head of your shoulders faster than you can blink.” I don’t falter in my stare as I challenge the evil eyes in front of me.
Xavier laughs. “You?...The Alpha heir to Helena. You?” He almost doubled over.
I smile and laugh with him. “Yes, I am.”
“Darling. Run along. Let the men speak.” He gives me a condescending look. Waving his hands to shoo me away.
I chuckle and arch my brow at his chauvinistic gesture. I turn and look at Lucius and the men behind him who are not too happy right now.
I turn back to Xavier, still chuckling as he stares at me. I nod.
In a split second my face changes. I drive the heel of my hand up into his nose. I stab four spots on his chest with two fingers and spin around him twisting his arm. I finish with him bent over in front of me in pain and dripping blood into the dirt. I have two fingers pressed to the base if his skull.
His men make a forward motion. “Ah!” I stop them. “Any closer and I press this spot, cutting off all circulation to his heart. He’ll be dead before he hits the ground.” I give them a serious look.
They back off with their hands up.
I lean to Xavier. “Now. You will leave this village. Empty handed. You will not change the treaty and you will find your fighters elsewhere. Do I make myself clear?”
Xavier just groaned.
“Answer me!” I demand.
“Yes!” He yelled, shaking.
“Good.” I run my fingers down his spine and drive my knuckle in between two vertebrae.
Xavier screams in agony, but he can move again.
I let him go and step back. Not taking my eyes off him.
Xavier turns. Rubbing his neck. His men look confused, but then turn with him.
“Xavier.” I call to him.
He turns back.
I eye him menacingly. “Leave quickly.” I snarl.
Xavier and his men jog out of the village and tear through their clothes, shifting. The run off into the clearing. Pouncing into the tree line.
I turn slowly to Lucius who practically has smoke rising out of his ears.
“My house. NOW!” He pointed to the back of the village.
With my mouth small and my head held high, I march with him down the path to his house. He throws open the door and grabs my arm and throws me inside.
“What the fucking hell was that?!!” He yelled.
“Helping!” I yelled back.
“You started a fucking war, Wren! I assume you heard. He has a fucking army! You fucking put us all in danger!” His arms were flailing and his face was red.
“No! What I did was stand up for my people! We can fight him, Lucius. I’ve dealt with these assholes for years!” My chest was out and my breath was heaving.
“They’re my people, Wren! Not yours! I’m the Alpha here! You fucking embarrassed me in front of my pack!” His yelling got louder.
“Somebody had to do something, Lucius! You weren’t going to do anything!” My voice started to have a little growl in it.
“I was trying to not piss him off so much that he brings 2500 fucking dragons down on our heads!!” His head looked like it was about to explode.
“So, you sell our pack out?! Turn us into Dragons? Fuck you, Lucius! If you think I’d stand by and let you destroy Helena, you have another thing coming!” I was raging mad now. The Alpha in me was starting to show.
His chin came out and his lips curled. “You are not this pack! You are so far from being Helena it’s not even funny. You sure as hell ARE NOT THE GODDAMN ALPHA!” His eyes were on fire.
“I’M MORE ALPHA THAN YOU WILL EVER BE! AT LEAST I HAVE THE BALLS TO STAND UP!” I scream back.
He runs a hand through his hair and turns around. I can hear his breath forced out his flaring nostrils.
He turned back. “You need to leave. Now.” He glared at me.
I crossed my arms. “No. I’m not leaving. Not now. Now that I know how deep you are in this thing. You’re going to need my help.”
He stomps to the door and opens it. “I don’t need anything from you.”
I nod. With my head held high, I walk out the door. I turn to him as I walk by and stop. “You may not need me, Lucius, but this pack does. I’m not about to let anyone get in the way of that. That includes you.”
His face scowls as I confirm that I mean every word with my expression.
I head back out and to the village.
“Wren!” I turn and Curtis jogs up. “That was….um wow.” He rubbed his neck.
I shrug. “Just a little trick I learned on a mission. It only paralyzed him. The heart stopping thing was bullshit.” I smirk.
“I…uh…Thanks.” He stops and I stop too.
“You’re welcome." I bow my head.
“Look, I know you and Lu still haven’t come to terms, but if there’s anything you need, just name it.” He smiles.
“I could use a visit from my sister. I won’t take her. I just want to spend time with her.” I reassure.
He nods. “I’ll see what I can do.” He leaves to help the men straighten up.
I walk out to my campsite at the other end of the clearing. Thinking that yeah, I may have poked the bear a little too hard, but it’s not like I’ve never had the odds stacked against me before. I can call in reinforcements at any time. Get the Unit out here and wipe out the rest of the Dragons. There’s one problem. Lucius and the other packs. I’m sure none of them would want to cut off their treaties. I need to get them on board before I call the Alliance. I need a counter offer that will make them want to give up the Dragon treaties.
I may have to go to the council. But first, I have to make sure my sister is safe and well before I leave.
****
The stars are out now and I’m cooking my dinner on my fire.
I hear a rustle and spin in my seat.
Raven enters the fire light.
“Raven.” I breathe. Smiling as I get up and hug her.
She hugs me back. “I brought some food and an extra blanket.”
“Oh. You didn’t have to do that.” I took the plate and blanket from her. “Sit. Please.” I offer her a spot next to me.
“The Alpha’s in bed. I snuck away. Curtis gave me your message.” She warmed her hands against the heat of the fire.
“I just want to spend some time with you. It’s not like Lucius is going to let me live with you or you with me, so we might as well take the time we do have.” I wrap my arm around her.
“It’s not fair.” She looks down at her fingers. “I love it here, but I love you too. It’s not fair that I can’t see you.” She mumbles.
“I know, Raven. Lucius. He’s a hard man. Probably because he’s had to live so hard for so long. But he cares about you. I know he keeps you safe. I thank him for that.” I brush the hair from her face and tuck it behind her ear. “Maybe someday he’ll forgive me and we can see more of each other. Right now, he’s angry and he’s trying to punish me. I don’t think he realizes how much he’s hurting you too.”
“Yeah.” She stands. “I should get back." She thumbs over her shoulder.
“Stay.” I grab her hand. “Just for tonight. We can have a camp out.” I grin.
She smiles. “I’d like that.”
We ate and talked and talked some more. We eventually had to turn in. Sleeping side by side wrapped up in blankets on the floor of my tent.
“Wren?” Raven asks quietly. “Do you think we’d be here if mom and dad were alive?”
I give a half smile. “I don’t know. I know we’d all be together. Dad would make sure of it.”
A tear rolls down her nose. “I miss them.”
I wipe her tear away. “I do too.”
I cuddle my baby sister and drift off to sleep. I think this is the first time in ten years where I didn’t have a single nightmare.
To have her to hold again was a dream come true. I never thought in a million years that I’d look into my sweet baby sisters face again.
I wonder now, who else is out there. Waiting for us to find them. Waiting for us to hold them. Waiting for us to tell them that from now on everything’s going to be ok.
LUCIUS“Raven? Raven, get your ass out here now!” I yell as I get close to Wren’s campsite. The panel to the tent zips open and Raven pokes her head out. Her face covered in guilt and fear. She steps out slowly and Wren is right behind her.I grab Ravens arm and pull her to me, pointing a finger in her face. “What did I tell you? You weren’t to come down here. Did I not tell you that?”Wren grabbed my hand. “Get your hands off her! This was not her fault! You have no right to speak to her like that!”I look at Raven. “Get home.” I point to the village.Raven looks at me and Wren and turns, running for the village.“You have some nerve…” I growl at him.“Pack your stuff. You’re coming too.” I cross my arms.It takes me a second. “What?”“You heard me. Pack up. You’re moving to the village.” I speak in an authoritative tone. She pulls attitude. “No. I don’t think I want to be around you.”I looked at her confused. “Wren, pack your shit up and get to the village!”“No, Lu. I won’t” She c
WREN“Yes, Luna...I know…But the Alphas helping right?...Ok…Tell you what, call Alpha Duke…Yes…He’s a really good trainer…I’m not sure when I’ll be back…I’m sorry, Luna. This is just really important…Yes…I call you when I can…….Ok. bye.”I hang up with Sam. She’s upset that won’t be coming back anytime soon, but she understood. Now, that I’m in with Lucius, I can’t go now.Sitting on the foothill, outside the village, I put my phone in my pocket and pick up my project I’ve been working on for the last few days.Since Lucius has been adamant on me learning to hunt in human form, I decided to try and revive a skill my father taught me years ago. The Bow.I bend the thick stick and tie the rope I had to each end. I put it under tension and pull on it. Aiming it. I pick up one of six arrows I made. I tried to make them as even and balanced as possible. I put the rope in the notch between the feathers I found from the quail that run around here.On the end, I put some carved bone arrow hea
LUCIUS Seeing Wren at the fire the other night has had my head all messed up. I still hate her, but something inside wants me to get closer. Urging me to get closer. As I walk through the village and pass her at her tent, I turn my head to her and she smiles. I don’t smile back. I don’t want to give her too much. I probably shouldn’t have given her the amount that I have already. As I get to the path to my house, Wren jogs up beside me. “Hey. I…um…just wanted to thank you for the other night.” She fixed her long, black hair that was in a ponytail. “It’s no big deal, really.” I grumble. “It is to me, Lu. I know having me here is uncomfortable for you. It just meant a lot to see how much you love this pack.” She stopped in my yard. I turn. “Seriously, it’s nothing.” I was about to say goodbye when I heard yells from the village. “The hunting party’s back!” Some shouted. I run back to the center of the village with Wren right behind me. The hunting party entered the village. De
WREN“You’re getting pretty good with that thing.” Lucius points to my bow as we walk back to the village. He’s carrying the deer I killed on his shoulder. “Keep this up and we’ll have food for a month.” He quickly smiles.I look down, smiling. “I want to do my part. I like it here. I like the people. I want to help.”He leans in. “Thank you.” He backs off and we continue to walk out of the forest into the clearing. As we entered, we heard shouting.“RAIDERS!! RAIDERS!”Screams rose from the village.“Raiders?” I look at Lucius.“Fuck!” He dropped the deer and ran. With a hop, I ran right behind him. When we got to the village, people were running everywhere.“GET THE CHILDREN OUT NOW!” Lucius yells as we enter the village. Then I saw them. At least fifteen men with weapons. Fighting our men, ransacking supplies. Raiding houses. Women scream as the run with children in their arms.Lucius immediately started grabbing men and hitting them. Throwing them across the village center.I run
WREN“NO!” Lucius yells as he walks away from me.“Lucius, we’re in trouble. We need help!” I follow him out to the spot where he chops his wood.“Forget it, Wren. Not happening?” He grabs a log and places it on a stump and grabs his axe. He swings it up and brings it down on the log, splitting it in two.I sigh in frustration. “Lu. What are you going to do when the rest of the Nomads come down on us? Devlin was right. We can’t fight all of them.”He picks up a half and puts it on the stump. He swings and splits in quarters. “We’ll fight. Just like we always have.” He splits the other half into quarters. He picks up the wood and carries it to his fire. Squatting down, he throws one piece onto the burning pile.“You can’t fight everyone, Lu. You don’t have the fighters!” I flail my arms out to the side.He stands and leans close. “I’m not calling the fucking Alliance, Wren. Drop it!” He growls.“Lucius, please be reasonable here. We have the manpower, the weapons. We can get you anythi
LUCIUS I stand with Curtis on my right side. “What do you want, Xavier?” I grumble. “Lucius. I only want to talk. To see if there’s any negotiation we can do.” Xavier smiles. I raise a brow. “You want to negotiate.” Out of the corner of my eye, Wren joins me on my left. I glance behind me and the Alphas are flanking me. “Lady Alpha. Nice to see you again?” Xavier bows. Wren leans to me. “What does he want?” I lean to her. “He wants to negotiate.” She nods and continues to glare at him. “Name your terms.” I stand firm. Xavier brushes his suit sleeves and steps forward. “Ok. We provide you protection as it were, and you give us one fighter. That’s it. We also call off the other nomads.” He eyes me. “One fighter. That’s it?” I don’t believe him. “One specific fighter to be exact.” He tilts his head down and eyes Wren with that evil face of his. I follow his gaze. “No. Not a chance!” I push Wren behind me. “If we can’t come to an agreement, Alpha, I’ll have no choice but to
WREN“There’s no service!” Luke spins around, holding his phone up to the sky as he walks around the clearing toward the village.I look back. “No. You need satellite phones.”He throws his arms up. “Well, how the hell am I going to play my Playlist now?”“Stop complaining, Alpha.” Alexi walks beside him.He scowls. “Babe, you know I like to fire guns to music.”“You’d be surprised how much you can live without, Luke.” I turn and walk backwards.“Hey, if I can’t hear Black Sabbath at least once a day, I’m grumpy as hell, alright.” He stuffs his hands in the pockets of his jeans.Alexi huffs. “I swear. It’s like dealing with a child.”He points to her. “Hey. This child rocks your world every night, Ok. Remember that.”She rolls her eyes and shakes her head. I laugh and turn back around. We get half way across the clearing and Lucius is standing at the village entrance. His chest is out and his arms are crossed. He has a threatening look on his face.Luke leans to me. “Is that him?”I n
LUCIUS“Ok, Lu. Come on." Luke adjusts my feet and arms while I hold the gun in my hands.I watch him touching me, making me feel extremely uncomfortable.I narrow my eyes. “Don’t call me Lu.” I grumble low.He looks at me and grins. “No problem, buddy.” He taps my elbow straight.“Alright, Tarzan. Show me what you got.” He slaps back.I turn my head to him, scowling. He waves me to go on.I huff a breath and look at the target paper pinned to a tree. I aim the gun and pull the trigger. The guns fires making me flinch. The bullet glances the tree and flies into the forest. I drop the gun to my side and roll my head to Luke.He stands with his arm around his chest and his other hand rubbing his chin. “Ok. Maybe. Here….” He comes behind me and twists my hips. Adjust my feet and arms.I look straight ahead. “Stop…. touching me.” I seethe. He backs off. “Will you relax! No wonder you can’t fire a shot. You’re too stiff. Look.” He grabs his gun and positions himself and fires. He hits the
LUCIUS Bastian stood tall at the podium. I still can’t peg this guy, but I’m starting to not mind him too much. River Blake is OK. A bit smug, like Bastian, but tolerable. Luke is fucking annoying after I let it slip that I might like the walking headache, but I think as far as friends go, I could do worse. Jayson is fine. Now that I’m mated to Wren, I think I can let the whole dating thing go. Besides, the dude’s a little stressed lately with pup number two on the way. Twins from what I hear. Speaking of twins. Our newest council member, Grey Andrews, is joining the meeting after his dad retired. His twin, Wes, is salty to say the least. Grey is someone I could do without. He has this whole military thing going on and thinks he’s king shit. He’s trying desperately to get me to let him in and I’m not budging. “No!” I growl. “Why not?” Everyone else at this table has been there? I think I should be allowed to see it.” Grey growls. Wren looks at me. “He has a point, Alpha.” I scowl
WRENWe stayed in the trees a little longer. Holding each other and basking in the moons blue glow.He ran his fingers over my mark. “This is my most treasured possession. I promise to cherish you for the rest of my life.” He kissed it.I’m resting my back on his chest. His strong arms wrapped around me as were covered in the furs.I turn my head up to him. “I promise to love you forever and be the partner you deserve.”He kisses me gently. “Should we rejoin the party? I’m sure everyone is anxious to see you.”“As much as I’d love to, we can’t hide up here forever.” I smile.“No, we can’t.” He chuckles. After getting dressed and climbing down, we freshen up at home and join the party.Luke and Alexi find us almost instantly.“Well?!” Luke stands with his hands on his hips.I pull back Lucius' shirt collar. “I marked myself an Alpha.” I bite my lip and grin.Alexi squealed. “Wren! I’m so happy for you!” She hugs me.“Atta boy, Tarzan. I knew you could do it!” Luke jabs Lucius' arm“Sto
LUCIUS“Curtis, is everything ready for tonight?” I meet up with him as he walks through the courtyard.“Yep. We got the tables an hour ago and the Alliance will be bringing some food and some more alcohol later.” He bounces his brow, grinning.“Ok. The Alphas have confirmed they’re coming?” I wrap an arm around his shoulders. He nods. “As far as I know, they’re all coming. Seems they’re all excited for this.”“That’s great. God, are you supposed to be this nervous. I feel sick.” I hold my stomach.Curtis chuckles. “Relax. You already love her. This fated thing is just a formality.”“Yeah. Hey, did the Alliance bring that sheet music I asked for?” I pressed a hand to his chest. He walks over to a supply box and searches through it. “Uh…. yep. Right here.” He hands me the music.I take it from him. I wave it between us. “This baby is going to make everything perfect.”He laughs. “Look at you. Lucius Drake. Hopeless romantic. Who knew.”I laugh. “Don’t get used to it.” I smack his arm w
WREN“Ready?” I grin.“Ready.” Lucius smiles from the tree platform.I look at my watch. I place my finger on the button for the stop watch. “And…. go!” I press the button and climb up the ladder to the platform above. I get to the top and take aim and fire.Lucius is across the courtyard climbing his tree to the platform above. He takes aim with his red compound bow. We run the gauntlet. Meeting in the middle at the back of the courtyard. We’re both on the platform. I’m on one knee, firing my arrows at various targets while Lucius is standing behind me firing at his targets. We both jump off. I do a front flip and Lucius just drops to his feet. I’m down on one knee again firing around Lucius' legs while he fires at his targets again. We fire until our arrows are gone.I jump up and smile. “That was good. We work good together.”“I really like this bow and arrow thing.” He looks at his bow.“Good. Because it’s your turn to collect the arrows. I’ll get ready for the council meeting.” I
LUCIUSI take a deep breath in and stretch my arms out as I walk out of the trees into the clearing. I’m so glad to be home.Wren jogs up under my arm and I wrap it around her shoulder. The clearing is partially filled with stacks of wood and other building supplies. I’m excited to dig in and help build my home like I did when we first settled here.Laughing and walking down the hill, Curtis comes with open arms. “There’s the Alphas. We thought the city swallowed you up.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me into a bro hug and gave Wren a tap on the arm.“Not a chance. The city can stay there. I got everything I need here. I’m glad to be back.” I smile and we all head to the village.“Well, we had a rough couple of days, but I think things are quieting down.” Curtis informed.“What’s the problem?” I ask.“The Dragons.” He sighed. “Some are having issues with them.”“They aren’t causing problems, are they?” I cross my arms.“No, it’s the opposite, actually. They’re model pack members, but
WREN“Are you ready to go home tomorrow?” I smile as we eat breakfast in a little Café down from the hotel.Last night’s bar event left us both a little hungover. As the night went on, Lucius finally relaxed to have a decent conversation with the guys. Though he still says they annoy him, I think he’s lying just a bit. He fits in so well with the other Alphas. I honestly thought it might have been a disaster, given the politics of where he lives. It’s more brutal than where we come from. Disagreements in the forest are often worked out with fists instead of words.“I wanted to go home a week ago.” He mumbles as he shoves a piece of steak in his mouth.“Even still. You must like something here.” I fold my fingers together and rest my chin on themHe shrugs “I like the shower.”I giggle. “Anything else?”“The beds nice.” He smirks. “It’s bouncy.” He puts more food in his mouth.I tilt my head. “Anything outside of the hotel room.”He lowers his head, thinking. “No.” He drinks his water.
LUCIUS OK. So far, I haven’t killed anyone, so it’s probably a good sign that I’m able to survive being on the outside. It’s not that I don’t remember what it’s like out here. I still kind of remember normal life at seventeen, but the world out here has changed a lot. And it’s freaking me out. I don’t deal well with agitation. Wren has been a total God send getting me through this. I would have probably gone off if wasn’t for her. With just a touch or when she holds my hand, I get this calming feeling all over. Like there’s something in her touch that was designed to specifically calm me down. Wren wanted me to get the whole experience of what it’s like to be part of the Falcon Ridge group. She says I need to have fun. Honestly, I don’t. I just want to lay naked in the sheets with her now that my council meetings done. And because that’s what I want, I’m now walking toward a bar called The Falcon with Bastian, Luke, Jayson and River in front of me. They showed up at the hotel say
WREN“Uh…What’s that?” Lucius points to the bed.I look at the black and white suit on the bed. “It’s a suit.” I look back at him.“I’m not wearing that.” He crosses his arms and scowls. He looks so cute standing there with a white towel wrapped around his waist pouting like a kid.I grab him, spin him around and push him toward the bathroom. “Yes. You are. Now go have a shower.”“Wren, I don’t do suits.” He pouts more.“I’m sorry, Lu, but you can’t go to your very first council meeting in ripped shorts. As sexy as that may be.” I smirk. He growls and squints his eyes.He stomps into the bathroom as I get the rest of his clothes ready. We’re in a hotel in Falcon Ridge. With the Nomads now discovered and the threats down to a minimum, the council wanted to meet the newest member of the Alliance. Though our agreement will be a lot different from everyone else’s. First, any decisions regarding the function of the pack will have to go through both of us. The council will have to recognize
