ARIADNE
It’s Saturday morning, and Theo took the kids to the sea, whereas I had to work. I needed to prepare the last details for today’s event. The platinum anniversary of Mrs. Aphrodite Pappa’s parents.
Before I went to the office, I had gone to a photo studio. I had assigned a professional to make a video out of a series of photographs. I intended to show it right after the couple’s entrance to the venue. The video was fantastic, and the song I picked with Mrs. Pappa made it even better. Many pairs of eyes would cry tonight watching these sweethearts growing up together.
I went to the office, communicated with all the suppliers and people who would be of service tonight, and after I had everything under control, I went to the hairdresser for my appointment.
In special events like the one today that I had to be in attendance, I wanted to be presentable and fine-looking. I had my hair styled in an elegant chignon and then headed to my beautician for a natural makeup. I asked her to emphasize my eyes and go nude with my lips. I was really satisfied with the result.
I was home a little bit after three and cooked something fast. Meanwhile, Theo had returned with the gang, and after bathing the kids, we ate lunch all together. Theo insisted on cleaning up the dishes while the kids watched a movie, and I needed to dress, freshen up, and leave.
I was hugging the kids goodbye when Theo came into the living room from the kitchen.
“I love you all. Mamá is going to be late working tonight, but tomorrow I promise you I’m all yours.” I was hugging the kids goodbye when Theo exclaimed, amazed. “Wow...”
“Mamá you are really beautiful today.” Anna-Elisabeth chirped, and the boys nodded. “We have the most beautiful mamá in the world.” They said it in unison, and I couldn’t help but smile at them. Just an innocent word from my kids, and I couldn’t control the happy tears falling from my eyes.
I was so blessed to have them in my life. I loved them all so much.
“Thank you. I love you. Be good and listen to babá, ok?” They all nodded, and Theo came with me towards the exit.
“You’re gorgeous tonight, darling. I can’t wait to undress you when you’re back.” He whispered in my ear.
“I’m anxiously waiting then.” I pecked his lips.
“Are you sure you’ll be all right tonight?” I asked him, concerned. I didn’t like leaving him alone with the monsters.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take them for a walk. We’ll eat some pizza and then head back home to sleep. We’ll be all right. Focus on your job. I’m sure tonight would be a success.”
“I hope so, without any challenges. I just want a calm night and everything to run as planned. Nothing more or less.”
“Good luck. And no matter what, have fun.”
“Easy said that done. I love you. If anything happens…”
“I will call the hotel because you can’t have your phone. I know. Relax. It’s not the first time I’ve stayed alone with them. And you know they are obedient when only one of us is present. It’s when we are together that the chaos is unleashed.” He chuckled, and I laughed back.
“I should go. Love you.” I kissed him and turned to leave.
“I love you, too. Bye.” Theo said, whistling seductively as I was getting in the car. He waited for me to drive away, and then he closed the door.

I reached the hotel at a quarter to six and started working immediately. The round tables and chairs were already placed, and the person responsible for the decoration had just started arranging them. The florist hasn’t arrived yet, but I remembered I had scheduled her for six o’clock. When she arrived, I inspected the flower arrangements and instructed her where I wanted them to be placed.
I headed to the kitchen to oversee the preparations, and everything there was in order, too. The cake was already in the fridge. The small flying lanterns were already placed on the tables, in front of every piece of dinnerware. The video wall was in place. The fireworks were set as well. I was just waiting for the DJ, and I needed to give the last instructions to the servants. I also scanned my checklist on my agenda so as not to forget anything.
It was seven thirty when the DJ appeared, and I told him to plug his devices and rehearse the video I handed him on a DVD.
I then gathered the servants. They were all in a line.
With some of them, we had cooperated before, but there were a couple of them new, so I wanted them to know how things run under my watch.
“Good evening, everyone. For those who don’t know me, my name is Ariadne. I would like to let you know some rules I want you to obey tonight. To begin with, be kind to everyone. Most of the guests tonight are over 70 years old, so some people might be grumpy. So, you need to be patient. I don’t want you to contradict anyone, no matter how he annoys you. Just say, ‘I’ll be right back’ and inform me to handle the situation. Be fast and attentive. Be focused on the person who talks to you, especially when he asks for something. You can also take a break after the main course is served for ten minutes each, but you need to take turns. No more than two people at the break. The appetizers will be served the moment the guests arrive at about 8 o’clock. I’ll inform you when to start. The main course will be served after the couple arrives, and the dessert after the couple cuts the cake. I usually stand by the bar where I have a view of the whole venue and could be easily spotted if something occurs. If you need me, whether you can solve the problem alone or not, come straight to me. I will also have a walkie-talkie with me if I’m not at the bar at that time. There are two other walkie-talkies. One in the kitchen and one at the DJ. My eyes will be on you the whole time because I depend on you to please all our guests, the celebrating couple, and, of course, their daughter, who is everyone’s boss tonight. Lastly, thank you in advance for your cooperation. Questions?”
There were no questions, and after I asked the names of the two new servants, they all dispersed, and I went to the DJ for the video rehearsal. It turned out to be magnificent.
At exactly 8 o’clock, the first invitees started to arrive. I had two people escort them to their assigned chairs and explain the whole flying lamp plan.
A little after eight-thirty, all the people invited were seated, and I informed Mrs. Aphrodite that we were ready for the couples’ entrance. Everyone lit their lantern candle when I signaled them. The moment the couple started walking on the candlelit path among the tables to their own, each person who was overpassed by them released a flying lantern with the number 70 written on it. And finally, when the couple reached their table, the dusky sky was dimly lit with the lanterns, creating a very romantic scenery.
Then the video started playing, and I could hear soft sobs from the visitors, but Mrs. Aphrodite and her parents were beaming with happiness while all three of them were trying to keep their happy tears from falling.
When the video ended, the DJ started playing lounge music, and I motioned to the servants to start serving the main course. I wasn’t needed for a little bit, so I moved from the DJ to the bar, where the servants knew they could find me. It was then that I noticed that David was sitting at the bar, and I went to the other side, hoping that he wouldn’t disturb me tonight. I needed my head to be clear so that I could concentrate on my task. He was making me anxious and agitated.
I wanted to keep my distance from him, but it seemed that he didn’t share the same opinion as me, so he approached me. What surprised me the most was that he congratulated me on my work here. He mentioned that he attended a lot of galas and various events, and well, I believed him because rich people always participate in such gatherings.
I was overwhelmed when he said that nothing could compare with my event. I never underestimated my job. I loved organizing events for people's most precious moments, and I was giving my all to make them happy, and to create unforgettable moments and wide smiles on their faces. So, my goal tonight was to make the best anniversary ever, and with the extravagant budget Mrs. Pappa had given me, I could make miracles. And I hope that at the end of the night, everyone from the employees to the guests and even more to the couple of honor, and of course my client Mrs. Pappa, to be more than satisfied.
That’s why David’s words just warmed my heart and boosted my self-esteem. We ended up having a small conversation, which made me feel really at ease with him. He wanted to buy me a drink, and I politely declined. I never drink during an event except if I was aggravated, which I wasn’t, so it was better to stay sober.
That exact moment was when a young servant named Elena came rushing to me, and my instinct was screaming “trouble”.
“Mrs. Ariadne, please come fast. We need you in the kitchen,” Elena said anxiously.
I gave an apologetic look to David and left for the kitchen. I really liked talking with him this time. For some reason, it saddened me that I had to bail out on him that way.
The sight I faced in the kitchen saddened me even more. The chef was sitting in front of the stove with her hands on her face, crying her heart out.
“Hey Milena, look at me and tell me what happened?” I crouched and took her hands in mine.
“That idiot… Mr. Harry Rizos came and threw his steak on me… He said that it was chewy… and if I didn’t know how to grill… then I should go home. Nobody had disrespected me like that… Never… I had dishes returned before, but not that kind of treatment.” She managed to say between her sobs.
“I know Mr. Rizos, my dear. He is a handful. What did he order? Beef or pork?” I asked her.
“Beef.” She uttered.
“Can you cook the beef fillets with the mushroom sauce?” I inquired gently.
“No, Ariadne, I want to leave…” She continued crying.
“What? No way. Are you serious? And give that old, grumpy man the satisfaction of his life? Do you want to lose your job for a nasty remark? I can’t allow it. Let me tell you something. Mrs. Pappa wanted to hire a famous chef from France for this occasion, and I was adamant that she hired you. Because you never disappoint Milena. Your dishes are delicious, no matter what. And let me tell you something. Whatever he chose to eat, it would be chewy for him ‘cause he’s wearing dentures.” I whispered the last part, and she snorted. I had brightened her mood with Mr. Harry’s secret, and I was relieved.
“So how much time do you need to cook the dish I asked you?”
“About fifteen minutes.” She said, drying her tears with her outer palm.
“I’ll wait right here, then. You are good, right?” I asked her sincerely.
“Yes, thank you for making me stay. I don’t want to spoil my reputation. I’ve been trying really hard these last years to stand out in my profession.” She said, smiling gently.
“I just told you the truth. For me, you are the best chef around. Now, back to work.” I patted her shoulder and stood a few meters back to wait.
Fifteen minutes later, I was heading to Mr. Harry’s table. His wife greeted me with a wide smile when she saw me. I placed his plate in front of him, and he turned to me, saying angrily.
“I ordered a steak.”
“Good evening, Mr. Harry. Mrs. Maria. Sorry for the delay, but I personally asked the chef to prepare this special dish for you. We know each other from last year, and I know I didn’t disappoint you in planning your son’s wedding and that you trust me enough to just have a little taste of this plate.”
“I want to eat a steak.”
“Let’s leave the steaks for the people with real teeth in their mouths,” I whispered, only for him and his wife to hear. “So please try it out,” I asked politely.
He did taste it and smiled back at me, saying, “That is the yummiest food I’ve eaten. Well, second to my wife’s meals, of course.”
“Well, I’m glad you liked it and I expect you to apologize to my chef, please. The poor woman didn’t deserve that attitude.” I requested it cordially.
“Oh, no Harry, what did you do this time?” Mrs. Maria said, annoyed.
“I might have thrown a steak on her, honey.” He whispered back.
“Might? On your feet now. Let’s apologize now.” Mrs. Maria grabbed her husband’s arm and rushed to the kitchen while I returned to the bar.
ARIADNEI returned to the bar and the bartender, Adam, was waiting for me with a fruit punch on the counter. David has returned to his seat and was watching me intently.“Hey, Ariadne, the drink is from the gentleman over there!” He said, pointing at David while the latter raised his glass, grinning at me. I looked at Adam, shaking my head. “Please, Ariadne, it’s alcohol-free. Take it, please. This dude is giving everyone in this hotel huge tips. He must be made of money.”“He told you that?” I asked.“What?” Adam asked back.“That he’s gonna leave you a large tip if you bring me around to accept the drink?”“No. of course not. He just ordered a drink for you, and when I told him you don’t drink during the events you organize, he said to prepare something without alcohol. So here I am with the fruit punch. So, take it.” He demanded.“Well, Adam, actually bring me an apple martini. I need it after that stunt the old man pulled on poor Milena.”“Right away.” He vanished, smirking.Momen
ARIADNEI returned home a little after midnight. I peeked in the kids’ rooms and saw Theo in our daughter’s room. She wakes up a lot through the night, and if any of us aren’t awake to return her to her bed, she ends up in ours.I filled the bathtub while undressing and removing my makeup, soaked in for a good ten minutes, washed myself, and put on my bathrobe.I got out of the bathroom at the same time as Theo was from Anne’s room.“Hey,” he said lowly.“Hi,” I smiled back, kissing him gently.“So, how did it go?” he asked.“I think I nailed it. Everyone seemed to be totally happy. The couple, the guests, Mrs. Pappa.” I blurted out.“Oh, my darling. I knew it. I’m so proud of you. And I can see that you are really happy…”“I am… Actually, I’m on top of the world right now.” I laughed low so as not to wake the kids.“Well, I’m not,” he said, his expression changing. “I am disappointed… very, very disappointed.” He said that, coming even closer to me.“Why?” I asked, confused. Wasn’t h
DAVID I was astonished by what she had accomplished tonight. The Lunas from different packs back home struggled to organize fine ceremonies, birthdays, and galas. They always tried so hard to impress their guests. But I was never so amazed on any occasion. And I was just a spectator, not even a guest. Watching from the sidelines. I was definite that my mate would make a marvelous Luna. She would fit in her rightful position without struggling. She was born to lead beside me. I knew it; not because the Goddess paired her with me, but because I saw it in the way she talked to her runners. She was speaking to them with respect, and they rushed to do what she was instructing. Furthermore, she didn’t miss any details. Everything was in order, and I understood that the demanding situation she faced in the kitchen was just an insignificant obstacle to her. She jumped over it so easily. She was perfect… I wasn’t tired of telling myself that she was perfect. My mate… My Luna… I was so hap
ARIADNEI woke up today with a bad feeling. My instinct was telling me that something unpleasant was going to happen today. I shoved my distressing mood away the moment the boys came rushing into my room and started bouncing on the bed.“Wake up, wake up. Time to go to the sea…”“Good morning, Mario, George. Where is daddy?” I said, yawning. Anna-Elisabeth started stirring next to me.“In the living room, drinking coffee. He sent us to wake you up, girls. If we want to find lounges, we need to go soon.” Mario was talking while George was kissing my daughter and gently shaking her to wake up.“What’s the time?” I asked, stretching my arms.“Nine.”“So, have you eaten breakfast?”“Yup!” They both nodded. “Daddy made toast. He will prepare for you and Anna too when you wake up.” George said.I smiled, thinking my lovely husband had already woken up to take care of the boys, who are early risers, and had also prepared breakfast for them without me even realizing anything. He was a blessin
DAVIDI got out of the car and slammed the door. I called out for her.“Ariadne…” But she started walking even faster. So, I tried again.“Ariadne! Wait!” Why wasn’t she stopping? She was almost running now. Obviously, she wanted to avoid me at all costs. But why? We had a good time yesterday. If someone should be pissed, that should be me. Only I had that right after what I had witnessed. But I came here today, at this exact moment, with patience and control. Or so I thought. At least I would try to be as gentle as I could.I paced and halted just a few steps before her, disturbed.“What’s the matter with you? Don’t you hear me calling you?” I asked.“I’m sorry. I’m in a hurry. I have to go.” She said, in a breath and dodged me.“Not so fast.” I gripped her elbow, pausing her. “I need to talk to you.” And I returned her gently in front of me.“Maybe some other time. I really need to go.” She said, motioning her arm so that to let her go, but I didn’t. Why the fuck was she acting lik
ARIADNEAm I asleep? Am I dreaming? Nothing makes sense. I feel like I am floating.Oh, wait I hear voices. Whispering. I can’t make out what they say. I try to speak. Nothing comes out. I focus on my hearing again. A nerve-wracking, continuous noise rings in my head.Beep. Beep. Beep.I focus on that. What could it be? I hear voices again. Two people are speaking.“She’s waking up.” A deep masculine voice echoed in my ears.“Seems like that.” Another voice came.I could understand them, but I was thinking differently. Perhaps, I was thinking in another language? I didn’t really know…“Aria? Aria…? Wake up.” The second voice demanded.I try, but how do I wake up? I try to move… I don’t know if I am succeeding.“Look, she is moving her finger.” It was the first voice now. He seemed happy and relieved.“Open your eyes, love.” He said again.Love…? Eyes? Eyes… Oh yeah. Eyes we see with them. Now to open them. I flutter them. I catch a glimpse of light. Oh, it’s blinding me. I blink, tryi
ARIA It was the next day, and Dr. Sully told me he had to run some additional exams. After taking my blood samples, the doctor checked my vitals, eye response, and body reflexes. Then, they took me to the MRI in a wheelchair. I was lying in a white room with a huge semicircular machine going back and forth. It took ages to finish. I was scared, but I could see David behind the glass. He was never leaving my side, and I really liked him being here, always by my side. Last night, after our reintroduction, he tucked me to sleep and sat next to me the whole night, holding my hand. The morning when I woke up, I urged him to tell me what happened, but at that same time, the doctor came, and I had to proceed with all the checks needed. So here we were eating lunch in my hospital room after I had taken a small nap when I asked David about how we met. And he started telling me the entire story from the beginning. “I was in a nearby city, for some business. I stopped for a coffee takeaway i
DAVIDA few days later, the doctor decided to discharge Aria. She was hospitalized for a week. They had run multiple checks on her, and when Dr. Sully was ready with the results, he came to the room to give us his medical diagnosis.FLASHBACK (A couple of days before)“Good morning, Alpha, Aria.” he greeted us both. “How are you feeling today, Aria?” He turned to her.“I’m not in pain anymore. I feel better.” She responded.“Good, I’m here to share the test results with you. I believe that you are ready to hear whatever I have to say without panicking.” Dr. Sully said, and Aria nodded.“Well, the accident caused internal bleeding in a part of the brain that is called the hippocampus. When Alpha David brought you here, we put you straight into surgery and fixed the injury. However, the MRI showed that there is still fluid in that area. It will take a while for this fluid to be absorbed. I’m certain that this causes you memory loss, which in medical terms is called amnesia. By the signs

CHAPTER 2 - She Finally Found MeIAN‘Hey, you there?’ John, my soon-to-be Alpha mind links.I’m just fixing my hair in front of the mirror, threading the comb through my black locks, trying to tame them into place. I like to have the sides of my hair short, but I prefer to keep the center slightly longer and style it upwards with gel or wax.‘Yup.’ I reply, popping the p. I’m in a very good mood today. And why not? Today is the transition of the Alphas in our pack. My now-Alpha David Nathaniel Fortner is passing the torch to his son, John Patrick. A son whose existence was ignorant for fifteen whole years. Back then, before John’s mother and Alpha David’s ex-mate Luna Ariadne decided to bring him to our pack, Alpha David intended to have me as his heir, not only as Alpha to the Golden Moon Pack but to his entire fortune. But luck was in my favor, I guess, because out of nowhere, when I was struggling and ready to drop out of the Alpha training, the rightful heir showed up, and to say
CHAPTER 1 - Watch MeANNELISE“For the third time, Tony. I’m asking you.” I try to keep my voice steady and firm. “Where were you last night?”“Annelise, I’ve told you already. I had to work overtime.”“In that member of the parliament? As security?” I taunt.“Exactly. I’ve told you a thousand times.” Tony whines.“Yes, but I don’t believe you,” I utter, and I have solid proofs in my hands.“You should.” He glances once again in his sports bag to see if he has all his gear inside.“I called the police station, you know…” I trail, and his head snaps in my direction, his eyes throwing daggers at me. “Your colleague told me that you left when your shift ended, dressed in plain clothes, not in your uniform.” I quip. Well, to be exact, I asked what he was wearing, pretending we had a date, and I didn’t want to miss our reservation at a restaurant.“How dare you?” He fumes, prowling at me menacingly. He grabs my chin, turning me to look into his eyes. “How dare you, Annelise? Calling at my j
JOHNSIX MONTHS LATERI jump up from bed, super excited. Today is the day! It’s finally her birthday! All the waiting, all these days. Oh God, it’s in the past. I don’t have to wait anymore.I’ll call her. Wish her ‘Happiest Birthday.’ Ask her out. Go pick her up for our date. Smell her. Make sure she is my mate. I hope. Fingers crossed. Bring her back home, and we live happily ever after. That easy! But of course, fate always has different plans and if you want to make God laugh, just tell him your plans. Mama’s wise words.I wish it was that easy.I glance at my phone. Argh, it’s still six o’clock in the morning. Damnit! It’s too early to call her, right? I don’t want to wake her up or freak her out. She’d be like: ‘Ehm, what were you doing? Watching me in your sleep?’Well, head-scratching. Obviously… For every night those past six months. There wasn’t a single night I hadn’t dreamed of her, and I don’t plan to spend another night with my bed empty and her not by my side.I waited.
JOHNI waved off Mama, Annelise, and Ian with a heavy heart. For the freshly mated couple, I was certain that everything would run smoothly and soon my sister would return as the Beta Female of the Pack.Hmmm, maybe I should buy her a saddle for Herc now that I’m thinking about it. Yes, as a welcoming gift. But my Mama? What happened to her? She was crying, and she was upset. And she lied, yeah, like… right on my face. Mama would always evade the truth with diplomacy instead of lying. But now she didn’t even register that she just uttered a lie because the next moment she came up with another. I didn’t pressure her. I didn’t tell her that I knew she was lying. I just let her go. It seemed that things were already awkward; I shouldn’t meddle in and make them worse.I sighed. I knew that soon we would have to see our guests off, but honestly, now this was the last thought that occupied my mind.First and foremost was Gabriella. Always Gabriella. My dreams yesterday were full of her, twir
ARIADNE«Μαμά; Είσαι καλά; » [“Mama? Are you alright?”]“Mama?”“Mama?”Why did he have to do this to me? Why didn’t he let me go without torturing me anymore? Wasn’t it enough that I still loved him despite everything that had happened between us? Do you know how hard it was to love someone you cannot have? And worst of all, for so many years? How hard was I trying to avoid him when I was here? How hard was I trying to keep him out of my mind? Out of sight, out of mind, they say. My ass!All these years of trying in vain. I still loved him. Every particle of my body was reacting to his presence, and even though I could wear the mask of indifference, I could no longer hold it. This song broke all my resolve. Every brick I built, raising walls to keep my love for him out of the picture, it just crumbled them down, and my heart prevailed. But unfortunately, I couldn’t keep him out of my head. No more. No matter how hard I tried. Twenty-two years didn’t help heal my broken heart. It would
DAVIDThe meeting last night went well. I was confident, and I had faith that Ian would make it through it all unharmed. Before eating breakfast, John and I went to the warrior’s dining room in the packhouse. Because a few guests had already begun their breakfast, it was essential for us to make our presence felt like hospitable hosts. When all the pleasantries ended, we went to the other dining room where we used to eat.I sat in my seat, glancing at Ariadne, who was sitting silently, picking her food. John and Annelise were bantering, and Ian was drooling over her.I didn’t want to speak in case I told something and provoked or annoyed Annelise, so I kept silent. I should think of a way to approach her when she finally comes and claims her post as a Beta Female of this pack. Jessica, Ian’s stepmother, never wanted to take on these duties. She was from the Delta ranks as a doctor, and her career always came before the pack. When my Beta Richard found her, he was ecstatic. He was thril
ALPHA AUGUSTINFinally, we were out of The Golden Moon territory and away from the fiasco they all called Alpha Ceremony.Honestly now?My mind couldn’t conjure how my best friend, my Alpha-Mate, decided to hand in the pack to an abomination of nature.I hated the fact that he was mated to a human. I tried to speak sense into him a million times and make him understand that he shouldn’t degrade his bloodline by accepting a mere human for a mate. But he never listened. He didn’t even want to hear my arguments from some point on. He always stopped me before I could even start talking.I was so relieved when she dumped him and left him. Hoping for a second chance mate for him. A strong Alpha female. That was what David was worthy of.I was mated to a special Alpha female, and he? He was mated to a Nothing. A mere little human!I hated Ariadne with all my being. I argued so many times with Marion about her. Something that made me loathe her even more. But her leaving back then was the best
JOHNI was less than a minute out of the office when I bumped into Agatha. Ian was already heading out for his run, so I was alone.“Oh, just the person I needed. Alpha John…” She waved at me, approaching. Alpha Cornelious was standing by the door just outside Dad’s office.“Mrs. Agatha.” I started and was interrupted by a loud cackle. I swear her laughter was aimed to awaken all our guests! My intention was solely to be polite at that moment.“It’s Agatha.” She instructed when she finally managed to compose herself. “So, I needed your help, because I don’t want to freak out the poor people…”“Just tell me why Annelise isn’t coming to her senses?” Ian snapped, interrupting her, walking toward us in long strides. He might have heard her and returned.“Oh! Just kiss her good morning, Beta Ian. Easy peasy! A true love’s kiss has the power to solve almost anything. A mate’s kiss is even better!” She marveled.Ok! She was a witch. Witches and fairytales go hand in hand, no?“Are you sure? I
