The truth was that it didn’t matter what she thought. Regina did not formally have a say in the staffing of maids and other palace staff. On top of that, the only orders that took precedent over mine are orders that came directly from the king and no one else.

“The king has asked for your presence at the main meeting hall. Please follow me there immediately,” Callum stated formally.

“Right now?” I asked as I wondered what father had to talk to me about that seemed so urgent.

The matter must be urgent enough for him to dispatch Callum all the way here to Regina’s palace just to get me. The only way to find out is to go there and meet the king.

“Yes, Your Highness,” Callum replied sternly.

“Very well…” I replied.

Callum nodded as if relieved that I was willing to follow him without a fuss. I glanced over at Rina who was visibly upset but knew better than to speak up or voice her discontent. She knew just as well as I did that there was nothing that she could do if the king wanted to
