Roses and Pain

My chest tightened and I was panting harder and harder as we descended the hill.

“Are you tired, Mila? We should be there soon…” the prince told me reassuringly.

I wasn’t really tired, but the smell of roses was making me feel very strange inside. Of course, there was no way that I could tell him that suddenly I could smell his scent so much stronger than before, and it seemed to be driving me insane. I couldn’t resist the urge and ended up breathing in very deeply. The scent of roses flooded my senses and intoxicated my mind along with my yearning for him. The real problem was that the sweet smell of roses was so irresistible to me. Even though I knew that inhaling it would make me feel strange, I couldn’t stop breathing in his scent.

“Prince Leonard…Leo…” I murmured his name as I turned my face to face him.

“What’s wrong? Are you, car sick?” he asked with worry.

I wondered if my face looked unwell because the prince seemed very concerned. As if on cue, we arrived at our destinat
