"He has to be, she's his mate." As each word settled on her ears, her heart broke into large pieces, and fell to the ground, shattering into smaller pieces. She stood at the door, still with her ears pressed to it, waiting for Lancelot to deny the accusation. He was the alpha king of London Pride pack, there was no way a lowlife human could be his mate! No, the goddess couldn't have been that stupid. She waited and waited, but Lancelot said nothing to deny what Peter had just said. She heard the butler speak up. "That makes a lot of sense. I always knew there was something going on between you two, right from the second you introduced her as your...secretary." Yes. That was what Lancelot had made everybody believe. He had lied to his entire family to keep the human here, close to him. By the goddess! It all made sense now, how could she be so stupid?! All those times he had carried her along, kept her close to his side, he had even gone on his four days expedition with her. All o
After promising Lancelot that neither of them would speak about all that they had heard, and seen, in the room today, both Lee and Doctor Flinn believed it was time for them to take their leave. "I must be going now sir, I would not want the queen to search for me. She would think that I supported your unruly behavior towards the crown." Lee spoke, sending Lancelot a wink, just to ease the tension in the room. Lancelot managed to chuckle, butler Lee had always had his way with words. The man knew how to bring life out of every dead situation, and make everyone share in his joy. Lancelot considered himself blessed to have him in his life. "And I as well, I do have grand children to return to." Flinn spoke up, casting a knowing smile at Lancelot. Lancelot's eyes moved from Lee to Flinn continuously. "So, you two ganged up on me huh? Came together and now you're leaving together." As he spoke, everyone laughed. "It's nothing like that, you're with the one you care about, it is tim
Within him, Peter fought the urge to shrug his shoulders. Put everything in order? That would take a while, he thought. But, he knew better than to voice such thoughts. So, he bowed in adherence once more. "I would do all that you've asked sir." "Good, leave now." Peter didn't ask anymore questions, not even how or when Lancelot would return to the palace. If Lancelot didn't care about his crown, why should he be the one to beat himself up about it? As he walked down the corridor of hospital rooms, soaked with the smell of bleach and antiseptic and painted with a very pale shade of sky-blue, he tucked his hand into his back pocket and drew out his phone. Luckily, he had saved Emily's number as one of Roxanne's next-of-kin, should anything happen to her. He searched for her number in her phone and dialed it. It rung for about twenty seconds, before he heard a seemingly breathless voice at the end of the phone. "Hello?" "Am I on to Emily?" He asked, still walking swiftly. "Yes,
He took one short look at Hera, before fixing his eyes on his steering wheel and turning his key in the ignition. Peter's nerves were eating him up from inside. He did not know what to say, or even what to do around her. Hera did not make it any easier. She sat in her chair and nodded along to the faint sound of music from his stereo, with her eyes fixed on the mirror of her glass. The air conditioner was turned on, and the temperature of the car was very low. Still, Peter's sweat did not dry on his face. As long as Hera was beside him, so close that he could stretch his hand out and place it on her thigh. He took the turn on the road that led to the hospital and tried his best to keep his eyes of Hera and her beautiful lashes. Finally, he turned the car into the driveway of the hospital, and pulled over in a free parking space. He stayed quiet and watched as Hera's eyes danced around. As if she had not expected them to get to the hospital so quickly. "Wow." She said aloud, her
The sound of the clock ticking was not enough to deafen the sound of his thoughts from his mind. Even after Peter had left, Lancelot still found it extremely difficult to focus on, or think about anything. He was becoming more and more apprehensive with every passing moment. The thought that Roxanne could have been killed today still failed to sit well with him. Yes, he killed most - if not all - of the men who kidnapped her. But, the person who had sent them had to suffer an equally gruesome fate in his hands, even if it wasn't death. He looked at her frame on the bed, covered in bandages, she looked like a shadow of herself. Worse still, she had his baby in her. Anything could have happened to the child. Lancelot's face turned a dark shade of red as his anger continued to grow within him. He had to find them, whoever it was. He knew just where to start. Lancelot reached for side pocket and picked out his phone from it. He searched for the phone number of the chief of security in
Peter, who had been watching the exchange of the two men carefully, said nothing. He feared that if he spoke, his earlier activities would be realised. Alphonsus was a royal fairy, who had just magically figured out Roxanne was pregnant. The goddess alone knew the other things he could see. Once again, he was forced to peep the antique clock hanging on the wall, just above Roxanne's bed. What he saw caused his mouth to drop. Barely thirty-five minutes to Lancelot's coronation! Peter looked down at Lancelot, who had his hand on Roxanne's head, wiping her face gently. Now's not the time to show her you love her, Peter thought. He cleared his throat and spoke up. "I hate to be the one to spoil this beautiful moment sir, but if we don't leave now..." Peter paused, he was certain he did not need to continue the rest of the sentence. Lancelot glanced at Peter and shifted to Alphonsus, before pulling his hand away from Roxanne. He would leave now, but he had to make sure her room would
Alas, the night of the full moon had come once more, the night that signified a new dawn, a brand new era. Lancelot stepped out of his room in his royal silk robe, ready for his precession into the courtyard where the ritual would take place. He walked down the deserted stairs - since everyone was outside waiting - to the door of the palace. Six guards stood there, when they saw him, they all went down on one knee and bowed to him, just like they always did to his father. Lancelot was taken aback for a moment. Their gesture was a quick and sudden reminder that he was about to take his father's place and be at the forefront of all activities from now on. He nodded and ordered them to rise up. When they did, he stepped foward and two stood side by side in front of him, while the remaining four lined up at his back. Lancelot stood still, in anticipation, waiting for the sound of drums and the howling and chants of the warrior wolves to usher him in. He didn't have to wait for long.
"...we're to check for signs of consciousness, not gush over her..." "Gush over her? You're joking, I can't possibly be..." Voices, those were the first things her ears picked up all of sudden. After those, the beeping sound from what might have been an alarm followed next. She tried to suck in air, before she realised that she had an oxygen mask on, and was unable to smell anything. Panic, that was the first and immediate thing she felt when she tried to open her eyes, but it wouldn't open. Her whole body was stiff, and her brain seemed to lack the ability to control the rest of her body. Roxanne's mind did an involuntary flashback to the previous events. She wondered where she was; it was definitely a hospital, from the mask on her nose. What had happened to her? Why did she feel a headache that threatened to split her head into two? Why was she unable to move? Was she paralysed?! Her many "why's" were answered by her own mind. Gory images flashed through her mind; she saw and
