Chapter 53: An Unexpected Love

(Magnus POV)

While I stood there, taking in the force of Alpha Davien's rage and disappointment, I couldn't help but feel a crushing sense of guilt. It was as if I had done something wrong. The admission of my error had been like a knife through the core of our unity, and I was aware that I had put everything that we had worked so diligently to construct in jeopardy as a result of my actions. The soothing brightness of the moonlight, which had previously appeared to be a blessing to me, now appeared to be making fun of me.

"I understand," I mumbled, my voice barely audible over the din of the conversation. "I never intended for any of this to take place, Alpha. I thought I could bring strength to our pack, but my own ambition blinded me."

My focus refused to leave the ground because I was unable to look up into Alpha Davien's eyes. I was able to feel the tension in the air as well as the fury that was building to a boil before it might explode like a wildfire. Not only had I let down
