STARLETTE

“How did you know about all these?” Maximus asked, narrowing his eyes.

“I read a lot. I read it in a book a long time ago.” I told him.

He folded his arms across his chest. “What book? Tell me more.”

“I can’t recall the exact book. And I’m afraid that’s all I know.”

“I’m also afraid you’ll have to think hard to remember where you read that from. We need more information.” That sounded more like a threat than a request.

“I didn’t pay much attention while reading it. It was a very old book. A witch grimore.” I answered truthfully.

The frown on his face deepened. “You really can’t remember anything else? How do I get to the witch? Where are the so-called invisibles located?”

I shook my head. “It wasn’t stated in the book.”

“No hint at all?”

“I think we already have the information we need. Hopefully, if the salt trick works, we’d be able to capture and question them directly.” Tom chimed in.

The Alpha King sighed. “I wonder if the witches are trying to start a war or if o

STARLETTEWithin seconds, the maid's yard was almost empty. I knew I had to make a run for it, but I couldn’t leave Bella there. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if anything happened to her.“How do I get this rope off?” I panicked as I tried to look for the knot to loosen.“Starlette. There’s no time; just go. Save yourself.” She said weakly. The fear in her voice was evident, and I wasn’t leaving her alone. “I’m not leaving you here.”I found the knot and quickly untied her. I wrapped her arm around my shoulders to support her, as she was too weak to walk on her own. “Where is your room?” I asked her. She pointed at a particular door, and we headed towards the room, but when we got there, the room was locked. “Linda, Sarah, please open the door.” She called on her roommates, but there was no response. “Please!” I pleaded, banging on the door. I could hear the rouges drawing near, and fear saturated my whole being. If we didn’t find a place to hide, we’d be dead in minute

STARLETTEThe next time I opened my eyes, I was in Maximus’s arms, laying on his laps. Startled, I gasped and tried to jump off him, but he held me in place. “Shhhh.” He said. “You're still weak.”The knife the rogue used to stab me must have been laced with a concentrated amount of wolfsbane, which was what weakened me to the extent of passing out.“Where‘s Bella?” I quickly asked when she crossed my mind.“Bella is fine.”“The rogues didn’t attack her?” I asked.“They didn’t.” He assured me, and I sighed in relief.I was relieved about Bella, but still tensed because I was in his arms. I hated him, but what I hated the most was how my body reacted to him. I hated that this devil had to be my mate. But, thinking about it, he wasn’t that much of a devil. My life had already flashed before my eyes, but he saved me. Not only did he save me, he chose to save me instead of Lauren. I still hated him regardless, but I was grateful. “What are you thinking about?” His words cut through my

MAXIMUS I didn’t know how much Starlette meant to me until I almost lost her today. I had always known that I cared about her; she was fated for me anyway. I just hated that she had to be an omega. I thought she wasn’t fit to be Luna and wouldn’t add any value to me. Lauren, on the other hand, was smart and strong. But lately, she seemed to irk me, and I was growing into Starlette. And also lately, Starlette was starting to prove to me that she was smarter than I thought. We got to Pack Square, where we entrapped one of the invisibles by pouring a trail of salt around him, as Starlette had told us. I was surprised that it really did work. He stood there in the circle, the fearless look on his face slightly worrisome. I had expected him to be on his knees, begging for mercy; that way, it would be easier to get information from him in exchange for his life. But that wasn’t the case. I knew at once that he would be a tough one. “Take him to the dungeon; I’ll question him there.” I in

I didn’t even know when I held him. I didn’t want him to go. Tingles jolted through my body in his presence—a satisfactory feeling I wasn’t quite ready to let go of.
“Starlette.” He mumbled. “I have to go.”
Of, course. I was the only one affected by the mate bond. He didn’t feel the same way. My cheeks burned in embarrassment at that realization. Starlette. What were you thinking? I mentally scolded myself.
I cleared my throat. “Iris surfaced for a second. She wanted you to stay. Not me.”
He raised a brow. “Iris?”
“Yes, that’s my wolf’s name.”
“Oh..” He nodded. “My wolf’s name is Nile. And…”
He suddenly joined me in bed, laying next to me. “Nile also wants to stay with his mate. So I guess I’ll stay. For their sake.”
I gulped down a huge chunk of saliva and nodded. “For their sake.”
“We should allow them to run in the woods sometime.” He suggested.
“You would trust us to run in the woods?” I asked, surprised.

STARLETTEI still couldn’t fathom why and how Maximus suddenly changed. He treated me like a rag when I came to the pack, and now he wouldn’t stop trying to please me. I believed he had an ulterior motive, but that motive I didn’t quite know. The cat would be let out of the bag soon enough. But until then, I wouldn’t fall for his pretence.“Soon enough, you'll get better than me.” Tom teased.“Soon.” I laughed. We were on the training ground, practicing. I had advanced, and we were using real swords now.“How are things with you and the Alpha now? I noticed that he had been giving that crazy head cold shoulders. I’m glad he’s finally seeing the light after being with her for years. I don’t know why he ever liked her anyway.” He scoffed.“You speak as if you don’t like her.” I observed. He made a disgusted face. “Why would anyone like that psychopath?”A laugh escaped my throat. “I know, right?”“So, how are things with you and him?” He asked again.“I don’t know. STARLETTEA crowd formed within seconds, most of them gazing at Lauren with horror and a couple of them pointing fingers at me.I knew immediately that it was a trap. I was set up, and I fell for it.I was still trying to process everything when Maximus showed up.“What happened here?” He asked no one in particular.A girl pointed at me. “She gave her a cup of lemonade to drink, and she suddenly started foaming. She was poisoned.”Maximus glanced at me, and my heart rate accelerated. Returning his gaze to Lauren, who was still foaming on the floor, convulsing, he ordered his warriors. “Take her to the doctor immediately.”“Yes, Alpha.” Two warriors chorused and immediately carried Lauren in their arms. After they left, Maximus took a second before finally returning his gaze to me. I couldn’t read the expression on his face, and that killed me. Was he angry? Disappointed? Hateful? I just hope he won’t believe the allegations. I could be killed if I was not proven innocent. The thought

LUCIUS Starlette didn’t poison the crazy head, that I know for sure. Why would anyone even believe that? That girl had a pure and innocent heart. I liked her the very first time I interacted with her. And I barely like people. I couldn’t stand watching her get accused for what she didn’t do. Seeing her desperate eyes as she pleaded not guilty, hoping she’d be believed, broke my heart. Her mate, my brother, who was supposed to stand by her and defend her, forsook her. Instead, he ordered for her to be taken back to the dungeon. I wasn’t surprised anyway; it was who he was—a heartless and self-centred beast. After the interrogation had ended, I marched to the hospital, with rage, to interrogate Lauren, since no one seemed to be smart enough to do so. I had to find a way to reveal her scheme. I wouldn’t let Starlette die, no matter what it took. “Lucius.” Lauren flashed the most fake smile I had ever seen at me as I walked towards her bedside. “So kind of you to come check up

STARLETTEMy whole life was crumbling, with no one coming to save me. What did I do to deserve such a fate? First, I was hated by my own father and maltreated before he sold me to the Alpha King as though I were an item.I had hoped life would be better for me here when I realised the alpha king was my mate, only to have that hope crushed to pieces when he threatened to reject me after giving birth to his pups. I thought that was the worst fate; little did I know that I had something worse coming for me—An accusation I couldn’t save myself from despite being innocent. “I am sorry. I am truly, truly sorry.” I apologized to Iris for the umpteenth time. “I’ve told you several times to stop apologising.” She was as broken and scared as I was. “I have to. I brought this upon us. I should have been smarter.” “It is not your fault. It’s all Lauren’s fault. She’s the reason we are going through this, not you.”“I know. AXELFather stood in the middle of the training grounds, surrounded by warriors engaged in rigorous combat practice. “Alpha Prince.” Various voices echoed in unison as warriors bowed in respect when I approached him. The moment I reached him, he threw a sword at me. I caught it instinctively, but before I could process what was happening, he lunged at me with full force. My reflexes kicked in, and I raised my sword just in time to block his attack. “Easy on me, Alpha!” I groaned. “No one will go easy on you when you become the Alpha King!” he growled as he withdrew his sword, only to immediately attack again. I blocked the attack, our swords clanking against each other. “That’s still a very long time away.” In a split second, he was at my back, attempting to attack from behind, but I was swift enough to turn around and bend over, evading the attack. However, I lost my balance in the process, giving him enough time to knock me over and stand in front of me, his sword pointe

AXEL“Mom, Dad?” I darted my gaze between both of them. “Why are you here?” “You are in trouble,” Mom spat, her tone sharp and disapproving. “I guess so,” I mumbled. “Axel, you’ve been breaking too many rules, and I can’t allow you to continue this way. I had to call your parents,” Alpha Richard said, his piercing gaze fixed on me. I sighed. “What did I do this time?” “When you were admitted into this school, you were thoroughly warned not to use your psychic abilities. You were banned from using them while on the school premises.” He sighed. “But recently, you have broken too many rules using those same psychic abilities, and the school can’t continue to have you here.” “Am I being expelled?” Chills ran through my body at the thought. I used to hate it here, but now I was starting to find reasons to stay. I didn’t want to get expelled. “Because of your parents, no. You’ll only be suspended. But this is your final warning. If you use your powers again, not even your pa

VIOLETMy body vibrated with anger, and instead of turning around and leaving like I normally would, I confronted him. “What did you just say?” I groaned out as I marched forward. “You heard me right,” he mumbled, averting his gaze. “Axel!” Daisy exclaimed, clearly disappointed in him. He stood up and attempted to leave, but I grabbed his arm, forcing him to stop. “Apologize.” He raised an eyebrow, his expression turning cold. “And what if I don’t?” “Apologize,” I pressed. I desperately wanted him to take back his words and say that he never meant it. As much as I was angry, it hurt me so much that someone called me that—especially him. Without another word, he snatched his arm from my grip and marched out of the café. “Violet...” Daisy called in a low tone, and I turned my attention to her. “How do you know Axel?” I asked, trying to fathom why she was seated with him and having that sort of conversation. “I—uhm...” She took in a sharp breath. “I’m sorry, I should

AXELI thought I had heard Violet’s cry for help, which was why I came running into the forest. I never expected that I would be the one needing help instead. The sharp ache that struck my chest at what I had just seen was excruciating. Without wasting another second, I turned around and left before I did something I would regret. Orion howled in agony, urging me to go and beat up that boy for touching our mate. But I had my pride to protect. I would never fight over a girl—not even if she was my mate. Of all people, why him? Emmett? I tried to imagine how and when they got together, but the mere thought of that as painful. The rage and hurt coursing through me were overwhelming. I stopped in front of a tree and punched it hard, over and over again, until my knuckles were raw and bleeding. But even then, I didn’t stop. I kept going, hoping the physical pain would replace the ache in my chest. It didn’t work. The image of what I had seen kept replaying in my head, intensifying m

VIOLET Mustering every ounce of strength within me, I jammed my elbow backward, forcefully striking his stomach. “That was hard,” he said as he finally released his hands from my eyes. I flipped around, rage vibrating through me. My eyes narrowed when I realized who it was—Emily’s brother. “Abel?” I groaned. “Abel?” he asked, chuckling. “Who is Abel?” Father had gotten his name wrong, and I had stupidly called him that without bothering to confirm. Which made me wonder if Dad had intentionally called a random name, catching me in my lies. I sighed heavily and started swimming toward the shore. “Whatever your name is, don’t ever try that with me again.” He followed. “I am sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.” I reached for my clothes, and my frustration was palpable in the way I aggressively put them on. What I needed was a moment of quiet solitude to process everything going on—not some dude randomly showing up and scaring the shit out of me. Of course, I would be frus

VIOLETWatching him play did so many things to me, and Onyx wouldn’t stop purring about how hot he was. “I can’t wait for us to have his mark,” she purred. “Oh, please.” I literally rolled my eyes. “That’s never going to happen. He doesn’t want us. And after what happened last night? I don’t even want him.” “Stop acting like you weren’t the one chasing him away in the first place. He’ll come around, I’m sure,” she retorted. “I don’t care,” I shot back. “Oh, yes, you do.” I sighed in frustration. I needed to start getting used to the fact that she was now part of me and knew my every emotion. I couldn’t lie to her or deceive her because she knew it all. Even as I tried to push the thoughts away, my eyes remained locked on Axel until the very end of the game. He was annoyingly hot, and the way he played so effortlessly, so perfectly, sent a thrill through me. With Axel on the wolves’ team, the witches never stood a chance. It was an easy win. The team erupted in celebrat

VIOLET“What have you both been up to?” Zara demanded the moment Axel rolled down the window. Her tone was laced with accusation. “First off, get out of the car. Hence why she hasn’t been showing up for practice. Don’t drag her into your mess.” “What?!” he exclaimed in shock. My eyes also widened in shock. How the hell did she come to that conclusion? “Yes?” She shot her brow up. “Prove me wrong if I’m mistaken.” Axel shook his head, clearly at a complete loss for words. “Zara,” I quickly chimed in. “I promise it wasn’t Axel. My life has been hectic recently. That’s why I haven’t been showing up. I promise to be there for the game today.” “I was already considering replacing the manager,” she said. “That won’t be necessary. I will show up. I promise,” I assured her quickly. She gave a

I was about to ask more questions when Axel jumped off the car hood, interrupting me. “So, met your wolf yet?” “No,” I blurted out. Suddenly, he seemed even more handsome, more attractive than ever. His scent—the combination of cedarwood and sandalwood—was much more intense and now had a touch of damp earth to it. The heavenly scent intoxicated me so much that all the restraint I had been holding onto for so long finally snapped. Before I could even stop myself, I closed the distance between us, wrapped my arms around his neck, and jammed my lips against his. I didn’t know what I was doing—I couldn’t control myself. The only thing ringing in my head was that I wanted him. He reciprocated with an equal amount of need, pressing my body to his and kissing me as if he was never going to let go. I allowed myself to get lost in his arms, yearning for

VIOLETNo doubt, I was attracted to Axel, but he was forbidden to me. I kept repeating that mantra in my head the entire way to the South. Sitting beside him in such close proximity made it really difficult for me to control my desire. It took everything in me not to throw myself at him. I asked him to park the car before we got to the pack’s border because I didn’t want my father knowing that Axel was the one who drove me here. “I’ll be right back,” I told him as I opened the door and jumped out of the car. “And I’ll be right here,” he replied with a grin. I walked towards the pack border, and the guards at the gate were surprised to see me. “We weren’t expecting you, Princess,” one of them said. “It’s an impromptu visit. I’ll be leaving soon. I believe the king is around, yes?” I asked. He nodded. “Yes, and welcome.” I made my way to the pack house afterward, going straight to my mother’s bedroom since she was the reason I was there. But she wasn’t there. Just as I
