Edward woke up with a start after having a bad dream. After he woke, he found it hard for him to go to sleep again. Sleep had left his eyes.He groaned as he sat up on his bed and lit the candle by his bedside. He looked at his study table and saw the bucket of cigars that were sitting at the top. He wanted so much to smoke. He then remembered that he had taken one cigar with him when he wanted to go out. He came down from his bed and slowly walked to where he had hung his coat.As he walked, he heard a small crack underneath his feet. He raised his feet up and saw the wrapper and scattered tobacco on his rug. The servants had not cleaned the room.He sighed and picked his coat on the chair where he had hung it before digging his hands into the pockets and bringing out the cigar that he had taken. It was all smooshed and the remains of the tobacco had been scattered in his pockets. Maybe this was a sign for him not to smoke. He grumbled and dropped his coat back on the chair before wa
Edward picked the little knife and stared at the carvings that were engraved on it. It really was his houses insignia."Where did you find this?" Edward asked, a frown on his face as he studied the knife in his hands. "It was found in the box stall where Richards body was laid before being thrown into the river, Your Grace," Mr. Brown replied and Edwards frown deepened, causing the scar on his face to give him a funny rather than scary look."Richards body was thrown into the river?" he asked and Mr Brown nodded. "How did you find it?""I searched for a quick way that the killer must have disposed of the body and I knew that the only place that the killer must have found safe enough, was one that was near the stable so that he would not stress themselves carrying the body for long and one that would take a long time to find the body," Mr Brown explained and Edward could not help but be shocked."The brimstone river," he mumbled and Mr Brown nodded. "But if this knife was used to kill
Emily fell asleep curled up on the floor beside her bed. She had cried all night and had decided to finally fall asleep after her body seemed to produce no more tears from her eyes.Suddenly, she heard a loud noise that shook her from her sleep. She woke up with a start and quickly stood up from the curled position she was sitting in."What was that?" she shouted as she began looking around the room for what had caused the explosion. Her eyes landed ok her window where a large amount of smoke was seeping into the room. With loud heaving and coughing, she rushed towards the window and closed it shut before pulling the drapes. The whole thing was an irony to her. She wanted the drapes opened but she now she had to close them herself. She looked around for what she could use to blow away the smoke that was now clouding the room. Her eyes stung as sooth entered her eyes and she sneezed and coughed uncontrollably as the smoke filled her lungs."Where is that fire coming from?" she mumbled
Emily stared at the burning fire with sadness written all over her face. She still could not believe that her husband had abandoned her and stayed inside when he knew that she was hurt.Or did he know?"Does His Grace know about..." she paused and stared at her soot covered arms. "Does His Grace know about what happened to me?" she asked, raising her head to Williams. "Did he know I fainted?""He did know," Williams responded with a small sigh. "He just is busy at the moment.""Busy enough to not check up on me, his wife, even when he knows that I passed out?" Emily shouted before hurting her head in her arms and sobbing quietly."You can't blame His Grace, Your Grace," Williams said as he rested his hands on her shaking shoulders. "His Grace has a lot of things in mind that is disturbing him at the moment. He.... he really is not too concentrated.""Excuses, Your Grace," Emily said, her head still buried in her arms. "All are just excuses upon excuses that do not change anything abou
"What was it that you were discussing with Williams?" Edward asked as he closed the door after Mr Brown had walked in."We were just discussing about Her Grace's health, Your Grace," Mr Brown lied. He knew there was no way he could reveal to His Grace all that Williams had told him. If he did, then he would not be able to find out what he really had planned and it would destroy the relationship that his master had with his brother, something that he did not want to happen."Are you sure?" Edward asked, a frown on his face. From the way he sounded, Mr Brown knew that he did not buy his lie. "I might not have heard all that you two spoke about but from the way you spoke and the way that he reacted to each word that you said, I knew that something was up.""I assure you, Your Grace, nothing is up," Mr Brown lied. "We were just discussing about Her Grace, talking about her health." Edward rested his hands on the railings of the staircase and stared at his butler."What did he say about he
Edward grabbed his hat as he stared at the opening door. Light from the full mooning shining outside flooded the room, it's light landing on his and Mr Brown."Brown?" Edward paused. His body immediately stiffened as he suddenly recognized the voice. It belonged to his new wife. With swiftness, he ran up the stairs before Her Graces eyes could land on him. He then stopped at the top and crouched as he watched the conversation that ensued between her and his butler.*********Emily walked towards the manor. She had just finished speaking with Hannah and the other servants and wanted to go up to eat."Brown?" she called as she walked to the door and swung it open. She was about calling the name again when she saw him standing my the stairs, his hands crossed behind his back. From the way Mr Brown stood, Emily knew that he had been speaking to someone. Something told her that the person was Edward but she could not confirm it. "Your Grace," Mr Brown said as he bowed slightly. "Is there
"Emily," Edward said as he stepped a foot out of his room, causing just half of his face to be visible in the faint light that was coming from the kit candles downstairs. "You can come sleep with me."Emily, who looked like she was pretty shaken up by his call, turned and said, "you heard all that we said, My Grace.""I did," Edward replied with a sigh as he pulled his hat over his face before digging his hands into his pockets. "I really do not mind all that you said. You were only speaking your mind and the truth but at the moment, you don't have anywhere to sleep.""But, Your Grace--" Emily began but Edward quickly cut her off. "I insist," he said before walking back into his room. He removed his hat and dropped it on the lamp table beside his bed before climbing his bed and waiting patiently for his wife to come in.After a few seconds of waiting, he finally saw her smooth feminine silhouette walk into the room. She stood by the door, staring at the bed and Edward need not read h
Edward sat up on his bed after the sleep he had been praying for for hours refused to come. He looked at Emily who laid on the floor and sighed. What was he doing? He gently got off the bed and grabbed his hat that he had placed on the bedside table beside him. He took a small glace at Emily who was snoring peacefully on the duvet. As he watched her, he could not help but ask himself again if what he was about doing was right. He walked past her towards the door but suddenly stopped after she snorted. He turned and looked at her to see if she had woken. He sighed as he heard her snore away. She had not.He placed his hands on the door knob and slowly turned it, opening it with a small click. He pulled the door open and slowly stepped outside into the dark hallway. He slowly walked towards the stairs and stopped short after he reached the top. After looking down to the ground floor and seeing that there was no one there, he ran with precision down the stairs. He reached the floor and b
