Henrietta
"Odyssey must be the most beautiful, strong and wealthiest kingdom else, why would everyone from far and wide want to settle here? especially when their own respective clans are quite specific for them." I asked the royal tutor, Sir Bernard who home schooled my twin sister, Gwendolyn and I. He was one of the oldest alphas in his clan who according to our father, King Kenneth is the reason our realm has so much balance to hold different energy and creatures.
"Pfft, they all have ulterior motives," I heard Gwendolyn say, placing one leg over the other as she threw her head backwards.
"Hmmm," Sir Bernard sighed, staring from me to Gwendolyn who didn't look like she cared about what he was going to say, as a matter of fact, she didn't.
"Ulterior motives?" I asked in confusion at her outrageous reply and she shrugged.
"Yes, ulterior motives," she repeated, with as much boldness as she could fathom. Gwendolyn has always been very smart, strong and courageous, yet extremely tricky. "Can't you see it?" She asked and I shook my head.
"No, I can't. All I see are people of goodwill who all they want is happiness, praying for our father and the kingdom." I retorted, my voice a lot higher than I would have wanted it to be while staring at her straight in the face while a side of her lips twitched upward.
"That's bec…" she began, while dropping her leg and making to leave her seat.
"Silence," Sir Bernard ordered, cutting her off and stopping her from getting to me. We both turned our attention back to him, yet the tension in the remain only grew stronger. I knew Gwendolyn so well and since Sir Bernard didn't give her a chance to give me a befitting reply, the conversation was not over.
"Odyssey holds a lot of people, Vampires," he began and I think I saw Gwendolyn smile in pride, "Werewolves, witches and of course," Sir Bernard paused, turning his attention to me and with a smile he said, "Humans," which was the category I belonged because unlike my sister who was already actively displaying her fangs since childhood, up until my eighteenth birthday, I haven't been able to produce any element of the special categories, so certainly, I was human yet born of a Vampire and a White witch.
"Humans," Gwendolyn repeated with a sinister laughter, "they are merely surviving on father's pity, else they would have gone extinct." She said in a malicious voice
"Like yours has already." I snapped and she hissed, exposing her long sharp fangs which were only beginning to get longer.
"Gwendolyn!!" Sir Bernard growled, calling her to order in time before I fell off my chair in fear and she quickly snapped out of it. Releasing a sigh of relief, I gulped, for one too many reasons I was scared of her even when I was the older twin. I have always had the feeling that she would hurt me if she had her chances. She was like fire while I was water while on many days I was dry wood, at the receiving end of her wrath.
Sir Bernard cleared his throat, he must have already gotten used to our constant fights, "They all coexist as a result of peace. The peace treaty which holds everyone's interest at heart and protects them from being prey to the other."
"You mean like Humans to vampires?" Gwendolyn asked but Sir Bernard rolled his eyes instead of giving her a reply.
"Sir Bernard," one of the palace servants ran into the study, panting furiously, "The king requests your presence." He said breathing hard with his head bent low in bow.
Sir Bernard bit down on his lower lip while staring from Gwendolyn to me as if resisting the urge to reply to our father. When his eyes landed on me, they got soft, it was as if he was apologizing.
"Gwendolyn!" He said her name using the voice of his wolf and she winced, "You must me behave!" He ordered, before leaving the room alongside the maid.
The moment he left, Gwendolyn took a few minutes to regain her composure before turning her face towards me in her seat.
"Hello, human." She mocked, "You know why you're still alive?" She asked an obvious rhetorical question which I ignored, doing my best to ignore her altogether.
"Let me guess," she paused, "Father pities you. He hopes you'd be like mom. What a shame." She said, slapping her tongue on teeth repeatedly so that the noise got to me. "Poor Mom," she whispered.
That was the part I couldn't tolerate, her joking with our ill Mom. They used to be close but the moment Gwendolyn got to know what she was and the difference, she began to resent mom. She has never expressed any remorse since mother got bedridden.
"You don't always have to make jokes out of everything, stupid." I muttered in a low tone, regretting it that instant as I recalled she had the strongest sense of hearing.
"So you speak, You know I can hear your heart racing audibly." She said in a sing-song voice, leaving her seat and taking dangerous steps towards me while flashing her fangs at me.
"Gwendolyn," I said in a shaky voice as she appeared beside me with so much speed. My breath was beginning to grow heavy and I was getting even more scared. "Gwendolyn, that is…" I watched her hand which she placed in front of me while her fingernails grow longer, "that is. enough. show..show off." I stuttered, moving backward in my seat.
Suddenly, she had her hands placed firmly on both of my arms, holding me firmly while her fingers almost tore my skin. "Gwen !" I screamed in fear as her tongue licked the side of my neck, "Please!" I cried, her eyes hadn't changed its color yet, they never have. She has tried so many times to get it to turn red like father's whenever he's hungry or angry about something but it never does.
"What is a prey without fear?" She said through laughter and suddenly I felt her cold canine on my neck and instantly shut my eyes, expecting pain but the chilly feeling left as soon as it came and so did her hold
"Gwendolyn!!!" I heard father yell and my eyes quickly shut open to see me in his arms yet I was shaky. I raised my hand to feel his beard while admiring his hard face and he turned his hard stare to me but his blue eyes got soft the moment they met my gray ones.
His eyes were tired and afraid at the same time. He hasn't been able to sleep since mother became ill. Neither has he shaved his beard. I guess this was one of the things truelove could do to a person, the fear of losing that person was one of it. And our father did love our mom.
"Are you okay?" He asked me to brush my black hair away from my face with his hand and I smiled, still in shock from what happened. Gwendolyn has done so many things to taunt and scare me but has never gone this far.
Father turned his attention to the floor and I saw Gwendolyn, struggling to stay on her knees with her head hanging low. "How. Many . Time's up I have to warn you not to try such acts on your. Sister!" He bellowed, slowly taking steps towards her and she began to shudder.
"Let's go Dad," I said in a soft voice and he let out a sigh before nodding. I didn't want him to take any rash actions towards Gwen nor did I want to stay in the room any longer.
"Take her away, and lock her up." He instructed his servants while referring to Gwen. After that, he turned around and walked towards the door.
He didn't place me on my feet even though I was a grown woman who could walk on her own, he was scared for me, pity was the right word. I think that was because he wouldn't be around all the time to save me. I wonder what would have happened if he didn't get here in time, ugh! in a world of witches, wolves and vampires, it really sucks to be human.
Richard The sun peeped into my room, and its rays fell on my face as if waking me up to a new day of extreme search and jealousy. I didn't want to leave my bed, afraid of another futile search which happens to be all I could get in finding my mate. "Good morning, my love," Nemiueh, who had spent the night with me, said and if I didn't feel disgusted, I felt annoyed. She placed her hand on my chest, rubbing it in circular motion which was classic of her. She does this whenever she wants to make a request. It made me cringe as I recalled how many times she has used our nights together to make outrageous requests some of which I fulfill. "Hmmm," I breathed while waiting to hear what she had to say, stopping her hand from moving on my chest. "My love," she whispered next to my ears but I didn't want that attachment. "Prince," I corrected, "It's Prince Richard or Sire to you, nothing more or less." I started in a clear tone and she rolled her eyes. "Mark me," she blurted out and my
Henrietta It's been a few days since Gwendolyn attacked me during study. I made sure to stay away from her as well to avoid any attempt to complete what she started, call it fear or anything but I definitely wouldn't risk my life to test her. All I've done is sneak out of my room to my mother's room which happens to be the last place Gwendolyn would be. Having heard the gravity of Dad's punishment on her, I know she wouldn't try anything stupid but I can never be too sure either. Sitting on the floor of my mother's room, right next to her sick bed, I held her hand and raised it up to me while staring at her face. She hasn't moved an inch for over a year now and even when she does, it's either she cries of pain or a maid helps. She has been struck by this strange sickness which many healers propose to be an effect of poison. Even the best healers say the same. Father has gone in and out of Odyssey numerous times in search of a cure but all to no avail. She remains bedridden, unable
Richard We were all gathered by the lake under the dark sky while the palace maids gathered wood at the center of the gathering to make fire while we waited for any of the old alphas to address us. They had already assembled, each one sitting in the order of the rank they held and since it was a meeting for everyone and not only the males, every werewolf and of course, each with their mates. The pack was often divided into segments but today, everyone sat together except the oldest members of the pack who were referred to as elders as they have fought many wars before us and even before our fathers. "Greetings my dear family," King Harold, my father, greeted as he began. It was his signature way of welcoming the pack together and making them feel closer to him by calling then his family. "It's been a long time since we all sat down together under the dark sky to discuss, I can't even begin to express how excited I am about how large we have grown since our last meeting, little c
Richard "Do not get me wrong, son. That she wasn't my mate does not mean that I did not love her." He corrected, and gently lowered himself so that he was sitting on the dry land and I did the same. "I lost my mate long before I met your mother. My mate was an unhealthy wolf who died just two weeks after I had found her while your mum was the princess of this land and her mate was an arrogant brute." "Hmmm, this is getting quite interesting." I whispered. "I had a soft spot for your mum's innocence, her care, large heart and soft voice and especially her beauty." He smiled, "Have you seen any woman around who is built like your mother or whose wolf matches that of your mother," he asked, laughing shyly and chuckled still paying full attention to him. "Her mate was quite bossy and would hit her on some occasions." "One faithful day, she smiled at me as she always does, I saw the pain in her eyes. Her eyes weren't so cheerful so I requested a meeting with the King and asked for a fi
Henrietta "Your bath is ready, my princess." The maid servant said upon stepping out of the bathroom. My personal maid, Chloe, was out to get me lunch as I'd rather have another maid prepare my bath than fix my meal. "Thank you," I said in appreciation for her time before dragging myself towards the bathroom. I was about to reach for the bathroom door when I heard a rush of wind in my room and stopped at that exact moment to see who was in my room. "Princess Henrietta," one of my father's palace guards said as he became visible to me, "The King requests your presence at lunch." He informed me and I tightened my brows in such a way that a fine line formed between them. "Is there a problem?" I asked, it's been a while since my father called us all to lunch and I think a while meant a year since that was how long mother has been ill. "I hope not, my princess." He replied and although I raised a brow as if asking him how sure he was, he politely looked away, bending low his head and
Henrietta "Gwendolyn!!" Father slapped his hand hard on the table, startling both of us. "I didn't give you permission to interrupt me neither are you done with your punishment for trying to hurt or turn your sister!" He growled, hot air flaring from his nostrils. "How did you turn this cold?" He said in a soft voice, "And to your own twin! How did you two even grow this distance!!" He shouted while looking from me to Gwendolyn. In annoyance, he picked up the knife and stabbed it on the table while grinding hard in his teeth. At this point, I wouldn't dare speak. The silence in the room was beginning to suffocate me and even though I wanted to raise my head, I just couldn't. My head had gone heavy and my palms sweaty, "Well, Odyssey needs a Queen who is strong an…" Gwendolyn dared to speak but a loud crash caused me to jump in my seat and abruptly raise my head. I searched the room using my eyes to see what must have caused the loud noise until my eyes landed on a badly destroyed w
Richard I found myself standing before a gigantic castle and right in front of its magnificent doors were two guards. One of them went in to make known our presence and walked before us into the palace. My father went before us while I and Charles stood on his sides, walking along with him while the servants carried our gifts behind us. The throne room was well decorated with tall marble walls adorned with rare jewels of different kinds. I took a moment to admire the room and all it had, then I noticed that it had no windows. I guess to prevent the sun from getting in but the room wasn't dark either as there were huge bulbs in the room and a chandelier right before the throne. "Harold!" I heard a deep excited voice say my father's name and I looked straight ahead to see an oval face with a sharp jaw and blue orbs which shone as he spoke. He was gradually rising to his feet as he was seated on his throne and once he was fully up, I must say I might just be looking at the most hands
Henrietta I was taking a walk around my mother's garden, accompanied by Chloe as the cool breeze of the evening graced our skin while bringing the mixed smell of flowers and fruits to out nose. It was soothing and comfortable. "My family couldn't come for the ball," Chloe stated as she plucked a few flowers, on either side of the path we walked. "Why didn't they come?" I asked and she shrugged. "I learnt from a member of the pack that they were part of those who volunteered to stay back." She said in a sad voice. "Don't be sad, Chloe, you'll see them soon." I said, "Have you seen your mate yet?" I asked in a bid to cheer her up and bright red patch formed on both sides of her face "Why weren't you there to welcome the werewolves?" I heard a voice belonging to Gwendolyn and jumped in fear when she appeared right in front of me. She was so close that I could feel hot air coming from her nose. That smile, the smirk on her face which showed just how satisfied she was with my reac
Richard There was an unusual tension in the air. The halls of the dungeon were becoming more and more crowded with soldiers and maidservants, going in similar and opposite directions. Although I was a little bit worried, because unlike the other times when they held large woods in preparation for my execution, they had royal veils and golden pots of fragrance. "What is going on?" I whispered. If only Chloe had come, I'd have gotten firsthand knowledge of everything. She's even the reason I'm still alive, as she sneaks food and water to me through Gregory. "Prince Richard, there's been a few changes," a guard said walking in my direction and just when I was about to step closer to the gates to speak with him, his form began to diminish the closer he got to me. And the moment he was at the gate of my cell, his form had completely disappeared. "Stupid Shape shifters," I cursed through my teeth. "Why hello there," Nemiuehs' voice filled my ears, the exact last person I wanted to se
Henrietta It's been a couple hours since I announced to my father and sister my ordeal with Richard. And I have never been more proud! But it is one thing to be proud and another to have the fate of the one who makes you feel proud decided upon by your treacherous sibling. She didn't want him before, so why now? 'To be Queen,' a voice whispered in my room. I knew there was no one in here with me because I shut the door myself. "But she can't be Queen, mother is alive and well!" I scoffed, staring at my glowing reflection in the mirror while gently unwrapping my hair. I needed a moment to fully understand what has happened to me, the transition, the… the new me. As my hair fell gently to my back, I couldn't help but admire the shiny silver strands and its new length. 'The coming days would be tough, my lady, beauty may have to wait' the voice whispered again and just then, my room door was thrown open. "We need to go!" Chloe said, rushing into my room. "Huh!! To where? Where
Henrietta Nemieuh glanced at Richard for a few minutes. I may be wrong but I can swear, her eyes softened for a while, but she was quick to shrug it off. She tilted her head a little high, "He'd be persecuted, your majesty," she gulped, peeling her eyes off him. What is going on? “Is it now her words over mine?” I asked in disbelief, “It is enough that you gave her a position I was supposed to occupy but you have to listen to her now?” “When the spell wears off, you will understand better but for now, I'll have the guards take him away.” “You wouldn't dare!!!” a voice boomed in the throne room, startling everyone including me but when I realized that the voice had come from me, I took a few seconds to readjust before I continued speaking. “I am not under any spell and why would you have her words over mine?” I asked, “You would know my whereabouts if you cared one bit about me!’ i snapped. “I understand that you do not recall so much as a result of the spell bu…” “I am perf
HenriettaEye to eye, I stared at Gwendolyn expecting her to look away but she didn't. There was something off about her, like an aura that wasn't there before and it was dark, very dark. it was not good but then, there were traces of that same energy around me.“Well, well well…” her voice came up.“Well what!!” I snapped at her and she tilted her head to an angle, “You pretentious slimy dimwit,” I hissed, fuming with anger until Richard held my hand tightly in a bid to get me to control myself but inasmuch as his hold was comforting. I wanted to give my sister an earful, at least before we are taken back to odyssey. The energy that seeped out from GWnedolyn became intense the minute Chloe got closer to me and I could see it seeping from her too. My eyes widened , “You?” I pointed at Chloe and she furrowed her brows, “You led them to us?” I yelled, fighting every urge to hit her, “What do you mean?” She cried and then it dawned on me that she might have no idea, and pressing further
Richard She was panting and moaning endlessly while I kept thrusting, taking note of every inch of her face and making sure she was okay. I concentrated on pleasing her because I wanted her satisfaction more and focused on her soft moans and whispers. Suddenly, she began to moan a lot louder and I knew she was close, “Ri…Richard!!!” She screamed and I knew it was about time I met her just where she was at and with few fast strokes, I brought my head to the spot I had been touching and flipped my tongue repeatedly over there till a moan escaped her lips after which, I grazed my fangs carefully above her skin before piercing my fangs through her skin. Panting heavily like one who had a marathon, I collapsed beside her before snaking my arm around her to pull her close to me. “I love you,” I whispered next to her ear while snuggling closer to her as I awaited her response but after waiting for a few minutes and nothing came, I chuckled at the possibility of her falling asleep in the m
RichardAfter taking our time to enjoy the feel of our arms in the comfort of silence, I took her hand in mine and walking side by side, we got close to the sea and sat down on the sand. She rested her body on me but kept her eyes on the water.“Mother said water heals the heart and the mind,” she said through a soft sigh, “I miss her and I miss home too.” she added. “It will be over soon,” I assured her, as those were the only words I could say at such a time. Her sister was after us and so is her dad but specifically, after my head.“Don't you think I'm worthy to be marked by you?” She asked and inwardly, I wished that this conversation could be avoided. She sat up and turned so that she was facing me completely, “I have waited for so long, can't you see?” She asked, “the more you extend this, the closer you get to losing me.”“Don’t. You. Ever. say. Those. Words. Again!” I said each word one after the other with so much anger at the mere thought of it happening, “I am never going
Richard It was already dead into the night and the silence that came with nightfall filled my ears, but was toned with the chirping sound of crickets in the bushes. I couldn't sleep as not only was I contemplating Charles' outburst today, but Henrietta's request as well. “Then you might have to think again,” those words played repeatedly in my head, clouding my thoughts so much that I couldn't go to sleep. I kept tossing and turning until I couldn't take it anymore and decided to sit up on the bed while resting my back on the wall. I stared at her sleeping figure and subconsciously, I pictured myself marking right then. What would happen if she is taken away from me? What would happen if we were separated? Could she be right about there never being a perfect time for us? What if she is not but then, what if she actually is? These questions kept me confused and awake as I wondered whether or not I should give in. if only she knew that I want it a lot more than she does but t
RichardI walked out of the cabin to where Charles was standing with his back resting on the bank of a tree. All through my walk out of the room, I couldn't stop thinking about Henrietta's attitude which was beginning to be a great cause of concern to me. She spoke so seriously about that dream of hers and…she saw that I was in danger before the uproars at odyssey. Could it be possible that she could be a…no no no, I better not even think about that. Anything was possible at this point but please, not that.“What was that about?” Charles asked sharply the moment I got to him and I raised a brow as to what exactly he was talking about.“You mean her request to be marked?” I asked but he shook his head.“That's none of my business and I still wonder why you haven't gotten that done yet but that is not what I'm on about,” he waved his hand in the air as if dismissing the conversation before narrowing his gaze on me. “I heard her, those low words she said about it happening, what was th
Henrietta Without thinking about their reaction, I blurted out those words like they had been written somewhere, waiting for me to read them but the look on their faces was more of surprise than shock but I knew what I wanted. “This is not the ti…” Charles began but seeing that it wasn't in his place to decide that, he stopped mid way and gave Richard a long look before turning around and leaving the room. “Mark me, Richard.” I repeated but this time with a lot more confidence. I knew what I saw in that dream and I felt it too, it was so real, as real as the others before it and Charles' presence confirmed it. “Etta, this is not the time.” Richard protested but it was now or never. Not for me but for the both of us. They were going to seperate us and that's for sure. I saw it clearly, I saw it happen. Yanking my hand out of his, I walked back to the bed to sit on it while bringing my knee up to my chest. “Don't be sad, My love,” He said softly before taking his seat on the bed
