Asher Walker sulked for three more days. During this period, Sabrina ensured to avoid him, lest she end up with a hole in her head. She had so many jokes to make about his condition but knew better.
Eventually, the man threw himself into work. His Beta reported to him constantly, and he was always on his computer. He never looked at her whenever she passed by. Sabrina didn’t like being cooped up here; she wished she were back home, working tirelessly in the hospital with her colleagues. On the fourth day, she received a call from her mom. “Where the hell are you?” the woman asked worriedly. “Your friend called. She says she hasn’t seen you for days.” “Sorry about that, Mom. I’m… away on a work-related trip.” “You’ve barely been working at the hospital for a month. What kind of trips do they send you on?” “Mom, I can’t really tell you the details. Just know that I’m taking care of a pregnant… person. Don’t worry, I’m safe.” Her mom still had lots of questions, but Sabrina easily avoided giving out too much information. After ending the call, she went downstairs to the kitchen to make breakfast. She happened to see Asher there. She greeted him, but all she got was a glare as the man grabbed a beer from the fridge. Sabrina rushed forward in panic. “You can’t drink that!” “Why the fuck not?” Asher was about to take a sip. “Are you seriously asking me that? Drinking alcohol is bad for the baby!” She couldn’t believe Asher was being so careless. Though this situation wasn’t ideal for either of them, they could at least act maturely and avoid certain risks. “What if the baby is born retarded?” Asher swore he hated this woman more each time she opened her mouth and spewed garbage. “Shut the fuck up!” The man stormed out of the room, but at least he tossed aside the beer. Sabrina went about making breakfast for herself and the Alpha douchebag in her care. She’d learned from the very first day that Asher couldn’t do anything for himself. She understood his inability to cook due to being raised as the Alpha of his pack. He was spoiled—but to an overwhelming extent. The man treated her more as a slave than a companion, and it pissed her off because she hadn’t wanted to come here. He forced her to, and she was doing her best to take care of him. If only he would be just a bit cooperative. When she finished making breakfast, she went to check on Asher and found him with company. “Alpha, please,” the middle-aged man kneeling before Asher trembled. “I beg you to spare my pack. We… we will be loyal to you, whatever you want, but please don’t take our home.” Asher wasn’t affected by the pleading. His heart was unmoved by the man’s pathetic begging. In fact, he felt disgusted that an Alpha would so easily submit to another. The other packs he’d conquered had fought to their very last breath. They went down with honor, as it was supposed to be. “I do not need your loyalty. What I need is your land. If you want to preserve your pack so badly, move away. I won’t stop you from leaving. But the land is mine.” This was power: expanding his territory and forming new alliances with stronger packs. Others might think he was coldhearted, but Asher was only ambitious. He wouldn’t submit to anybody, not even the Moon Goddess. The Alpha begged for mercy, but all his words fell on deaf ears. In the end, he could only leave in disappointment, knowing his pack couldn’t be saved from Asher’s clutches. Sabrina, who had witnessed the scene, was both frustrated and angry. She couldn’t believe that, despite everything, Asher could still be so cruel. “How can you be so cruel?!” Sabrina confronted him. “After everything, you still haven’t changed one bit.” Asher scoffed. “I’m only doing what’s best for my people—for my pack. Why should I change?” “You know what? Continue being cruel. After all, it’s just the first three weeks. Let’s wait a couple more months. I want to see whether you can still act so cocky.” By the time he had a big belly and was forced to deal with nausea, pain, a bad appetite, and other pregnancy-related issues, she bet he wouldn’t still be cocky. She stormed out of the room, ensuring to toss Asher’s portion of breakfast into the trash. They avoided each other for about a week. Sabrina only left her room for food, and that was usually at times when she knew Asher would be in his own bedroom. A week later, Asher confronted her directly. He was gloomier than she had ever seen him. “We’ll be going out tonight,” he said. “Where?” “The Lycan King is holding a banquet. I can’t afford to miss it.” “Sure, but why do you have to drag me along?” “If I have to put up with this, so do you!” Sabrina didn’t understand what he meant. Later, while at the banquet, she realized the celebration was held in Asher’s honor. Bella had leaked the news that her mate was expecting a child—only they all thought Sabrina was the one carrying the baby. The whole thing was so damn funny, and she couldn’t help laughing hard as she received congratulations from people she didn’t even know. Asher’s hand tightened around his glass of untouched wine until the glass cracked. But he remained mute, glaring at the people who tried to approach him. “Congratulations, Alpha Asher,” the handsome Lycan King smiled kindly at him. There was animosity between them, but they both hid it well in public. The King was no doubt happy about this turn of events. After all, cheating on one’s destined mate was regarded as a disrespectful act against the Moon Goddess. If Asher had been an ordinary Alpha, he would have been criticized harshly and might even risk banishment. Even though no one dared to say anything disrespectful in his presence, this was still considered a shameful act. Those who had supported his rise to power would withdraw. This single mistake had cost him a lot of support, making him less of a threat to the Lycan King. No wonder the other man was happy enough to throw a celebration on his behalf. Asher’s hand trembled, and he had the urge to dig his claws into the King’s neck. He forced out a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Thank you, Your Majesty.” “When the child is born, I will personally come to greet you.” “Of course.” Feeling bitter, Asher wanted to drown himself in alcohol. Before he could sip from his drink, a hand snatched the glass away. Sabrina took the glass of alcohol from Asher and gave him a disapproving look. “I said before that drinking alcohol in your condition isn’t good.” Though she had whispered this, the Lycan King, with better hearing than the average wolf, asked curiously, “Oh, and what condition is that?”Asher found himself staring at Sabrina more often than he would have liked. He didn't know what it was about her or why his gaze kept trailing over to her whenever she was in the same room. She was beautiful, sure, and he liked how protective she was of the children—always lingering around them even when there was no need to do so. He had assured her of their safety, but motherly instincts were hard to control, he supposed.Aside from that, there was nothing particularly special about her. She didn't possess the sexy charm his mate wielded so easily, and she clearly didn’t like him one bit. She avoided any confrontation with him, and Asher honestly didn't know why that pissed him off so much. She lived in his home, ate his food, and he provided her with protection and everything he thought she might want, yet she treated him like dirt. It was highly offensive."What's your problem?" Sabrina had waltzed into his office, glaring at him accusingly. "What do you want from me?"Asher raise
Despite herself, Sabrina enjoyed the rest of the dinner, mostly because she liked the way Asher fidgeted. He would look at Alaric from time to time, as if wanting to say something, but he never did. She might have felt bad for him if he hadn't been such an asshole to her. When they were done eating, she prepared to retire to her chambers with Alaric and Alexa, but Asher held her back. "Mother will take them back," he said, his grip tightening on her arm like he expected her to try running away at any moment. Sabrina wanted to remind him that if she wanted to leave, he was in no position to stop her. Still, she did him a favor by not making a fuss. The children were led away by the Luna. The moment they were out of earshot, Asher spun her around so she was facing him and hissed at her with no small amount of venom. "What did you do?!""Excuse me?""What did you tell him? Alaric, he... he doesn't seem to like me very much.""He is a sensitive child, barely even talks to strangers. If he
Asher hadn't expected the kick, and he was even more stunned by his sudden weakness. Combined with Sabrina's taunting words, his expression darkened. He straightened to his feet and brushed the dust from his suit. His stomach ached from the kick, but Asher feared he might appear weak if he showed any signs of pain. With the way Sabrina looked so gleeful at the sudden turn of events, he didn’t want to give her more reason to make fun of him.Yes, he knew he was no longer an Alpha. He’d known this from the moment he discovered his pregnancy. But it was the kind of thing he preferred to ignore altogether. After all, ignoring one’s problems made them seem less important. Until now, he’d never really been physical with anyone, so he hadn’t noticed how weak he had become. It pissed him off to no end, but showing displeasure would mean giving the Goddess who cursed him exactly what she wanted.Asher had no intention of going back on his plans. He'd come a long way already—he’d already birthe
Sabrina isn’t surprised to find Asher's private jet already stationed, awaiting their arrival at the airport. She knew the man was wealthy—he had to be, with the way he was casually throwing millions at her—but to what extent, she wasn’t certain. He lived a rather modest life; his mansion in the pack was luxurious but not too eye-catching. She wondered where all the money came from. Did he have some sort of business on the side? Surely, being Alpha of a pack, even a powerful one such as the Blood Moon Pack, didn’t provide this much money.Whatever questions she had, she kept them to herself, not wanting to interact with the Alpha any more than she already had to. She was extremely happy when Asher chose to stay away after they boarded the plane. He had disappeared into the pilot's room and didn’t appear until the plane had landed. The children had woken up at some point. Alaric was his usual uncaring self, choosing to stare out the window rather than ask any questions. Alexa was the o
Sabrina stops at a motel, but only because her children are tired and haven’t had a proper meal since she drove them away from their home. Alexa peers curiously at the rundown motel. The place gives off a rather creepy vibe—not somewhere she would have chosen to bring her children. But she has no choice now.“Mom, are we staying here?”“Yeah, just for a little while, baby. We’ll be gone by tomorrow.”“It looks cheap,” Alaric comments, to which Sabrina can only respond with a tired smile. She grabs her bag and leads them into the building. At least the receptionist is friendly. The room is small, but the bed is big enough for all three of them. Luck seems to be on her side; there’s a fast-food restaurant just down the street, and she orders some food. Soon enough, the children are warm and full. Alexa falls asleep quickly, but Alaric has always been a challenge.“Mom, what are we running away from?”“We’re not running away. It’s just... I think we need a change of scenery, you know? It
"Have you lost your mind?" Sabrina ground out, her hands clenched by her sides. "You think that after six years, you can just come here and start making claims? I won't let you take my children, and I'm not going with you either."Asher said coolly, "Is that so? Because of that man whose bed you've been warming for years? You think he'll stop me from taking you?"Sabrina bit down on her tongue to stop herself from saying something she might regret. Asher was still someone she couldn't afford to offend. There were two other Alphas in the room who could easily take her out with a single command from their leader. For her own safety, she needed to remain cool-headed enough to slip out of this situation in one piece. Asher couldn't take them if he couldn't find them. Their stay in Elthon was long overdue."Mr. Walker, I'm afraid I'm not in the right state to examine you properly. I will have my coworker take over for me.""You can't run from me," Asher declared, but he didn't stop her fro
